We give a general construction of rings graded by the conjugacy classes of a finite group. Some examples of our construction are the Hochschild cohomology ring of a finite group algebra, the Grothendieck ring of the Drinfel'd double of a group, and the orbifold cohomology ring for a global quotient. We generalize the first two examples by deriving product formulas for the Hochschild cohomology ring of a group crossed product and for the Grothendieck ring of an abelian extension of Hopf algebras. Our results account for similarities in the product structures among these examples.
Let A a k-algebra, H a Hopf algebra, E = A#H a general crossed product and M an E-bimodule. We obtain a complex simpler than the canonical one, giving the Hochschild homology of E with coefficients in M. This complex is eqquiped with a natural filtration. We prove that the associated spectral sequence coincides with that obtained by either, the Hochschild-Serre direct method or the Cartan-Leray-Grothendieck method. We also get similar results for the cohomology.
We obtain deformations of a crossed product of a polynomial algebra with a group, under some conditions, from universal deformation formulas. We show that the resulting deformations are nontrivial by a comparison with Hochschild cohomology. The universal deformation formulas arise from actions of Hopf algebras generated by automorphisms and skew derivations, and are universal in the sense that they apply to deform all algebras with such Hopf algebra actions.
We borrow ideas from Grothendieck duality theory to noncommutative algebra, and use them to prove a reduction result for Hochschild cohomology for noncommutative algebras which are finite over their center. This generalizes a result over commutative algebras by Avramov, Iyengar, Lipman and Nayak.
We define $H$-Galois extensions for $k$-linear categories and a Hopf algebra $H$ and prove the existence of a Grothendieck spectral sequence for Hochschild-Mitchell cohomology, related to this situation. This spectral sequence is multiplicative and for a $H$ a group algebra decomposes as a direct sum indexed by the set of conjugacy classes of the group. We also compute some Hochschild-Mitchell cohomology groups of categories with infinite associated quiver.
In this paper, we construct an explicit minimal projective bimodule resolution of a self-injective special biserial algebra $A_{T}$ ($T\geq0$) whose Grothendieck group is of rank $4$. As a main result, we determine the dimension of the Hochschild cohomology group ${\rm HH}^{i}(A_{T})$ of $A_{T}$ for $i\geq0$, completely. Moreover we give a presentation of the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence ${\rm HH}^{*}(A_{T})/\mathcal{N}_{A_{T}}$ of $A_{T}$ by generators and relations in the case where $T=0$.
We define a version of Hochschild homology and cohomology suitable for a class of algebras admitting compatible actions of bialgebras, called module algebras. We show this (co)homology, called Hopf--Hochschild (co)homology, can also be defined as a derived functor on the category of representations of a crossed product algebra. We investigate the relationship of our theory with Hopf cyclic cohomology and also prove Morita invariance of the Hopf--Hochschild (co)homology.
It is known that Hochschild cohomology groups are represented by crossed extensions of associative algebras. In this paper, we introduce crossed $n$-fold extensions of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ by a module $M$, for $n \geq 2$. The equivalence classes of such extensions are represented by the $(n+1)$-th Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology group $H^{n+1}_{CE} (\mathfrak{g}, M).$
We obtain a mixed complex, simpler that the canonical one, given the Hochschild, cyclic, negative and periodic homology of a crossed product E=A#fH, where H is an arbitrary Hopf algebra and f is a convolution invertible cocycle with values in A. Actually, we work in the more general context of relative cyclic homology. Specifically, we consider a subalgebra K of A which is stable under the action of H, and we find a mixed complex computing the Hochschild, cyclic, negative and periodic homology of E relative to K. As an application we obtain two spectral sequences converging to the cyclic homol…
Let $A=A(α, β)$ be a graded down-up algebra with $({\rm deg}\,x, {\rm deg}\,y)=(1,n)$ and $β\neq 0$, and let $\nabla A$ be the Beilinson algebra of $A$. If $n=1$, then a description of the Hochschild cohomology group of $\nabla A$ is known. In this paper, we calculate the Hochschild cohomology group of $\nabla A$ for the case $n \geq 2$. As an application, we see that the structure of the bounded derived category of the noncommutative projective scheme of $A$ is different depending on whether $\left(\begin{smallmatrix} 1&0 \end{smallmatrix}\right)\left(\begin{smallmatrix} α&1 \\ β&0 \end{small…
In this paper, we introduce the notions of crossed module of associative conformal algebras, 2-term strongly homotopy associative conformal algebras, and discuss the relationship between them and the 3-th Hochschild cohomology of associative conformal algebras. We classify the non-abelian extensions by introducing the non-abelian cohomology. We show that non-abelian extensions of an associative conformal algebra can be viewed as Maurer-Cartan elements of a suitable differential graded Lie algebra, and prove that the Deligne groupoid of this differential graded Lie algebra corresponds one to on…
If $E$ is a directed graph and $K$ is a field, the Leavitt path algebra $L_K(E)$ of $E$ over $K$ is naturally graded by the group of integers $\mathbb Z.$ We formulate properties of the graph $E$ which are equivalent with $L_K(E)$ being a crossed product, a skew group ring, or a group ring with respect to this natural grading. We state this main result so that the algebra properties of $L_K(E)$ are also characterized in terms of the pre-ordered group properties of the Grothendieck $\mathbb Z$-group of $L_K(E)$. If $E$ has finitely many vertices, we characterize when $L_K(E)$ is strongly graded…
In present paper we develop the deformation theory of operads and algebras over operads. Free resolutions (constructed via Boardman-Vogt approach) are used in order to describe formal moduli spaces of deformations. We apply the general theory to the proof of Deligne's conjecture. The latter says that the Hochschild complex of an associative algebra carries a canonical structure of a dg-algebra over the chain operad of the little discs operad. In the course of the proof we construct an operad of geometric nature which acts on the Hochschild complex. It seems to be different from the brace opera…
We develop methods for computing Hochschild cohomology groups and deformations of crossed product rings. We use these methods to find deformations of a ring associated to a particular orbifold with discrete torsion, and give a presentation of the center of the resulting deformed ring. This connects with earlier calculations by Vafa and Witten of chiral numbers and deformations of a similar orbifold.
We build resolutions for general twisted tensor products of algebras. These bimodule and module resolutions unify many constructions in the literature and are suitable for computing Hochschild (co)homology and more generally Ext and Tor for (bi)modules. We analyze in detail the case of Ore extensions, consequently obtaining Chevalley-Eilenberg resolutions for universal enveloping algebras of Lie algebras (defining the cohomology of Lie groups and Lie algebras). Other examples include semidirect products, crossed products, Weyl algebras, Sridharan enveloping algebras, and Koszul pairs.
We study formal deformations of a crossed product $S(V)#_f G$, of a polynomial algebra with a group, induced from a universal deformation formula introduced by Witherspoon. These deformations arise from braided actions of Hopf algebras generated by automorphisms and skew derivations. We show that they are nontrivial in the characteristic free context, even if $G$ is infinite, by showing that their infinitesimals are not coboundaries. For this we construct a new complex which computes the Hochschild cohomology of $S(V)#_f G$.
Let k be a base commutative ring, R a commutative ring of coefficients, X a quasi-compact quasi-separated k-scheme, A a sheaf of Azumaya algebras over X of rank r, and Hmo(R) the category of noncommutative motives with R-coefficients. Assume that 1/r belongs to R. Under this assumption, we prove that the noncommutative motives with R-coefficients of X and A are isomorphic. As an application, we show that all the R-linear additive invariants of X and A are exactly the same. Examples include (nonconnective) algebraic K-theory, cyclic homology (and all its variants), topological Hochschild homolo…
Let k be a perfect field and A a finite dimensional k-algebra of finite global dimension (e.g. the path algebra of a finite quiver without oriented cycles). Making use of the recent theory of noncommutative motives, we prove that the value of every additive invariant at A only depends on the number of simple modules. Examples of additive invariants include algebraic K-theory, cyclic homology (and all its variants), topological Hochschild homology, etc. Along the way we establish two results of general interest. The first one concerns the compatibility between bilinear pairings and Galois actio…
Let G be a finite group. Over any finite G-poset P we may define a transporter category as the corresponding Grothendieck construction. The classifying space of the transporter category is the Borel construction on the G-space BP, while the k-category algebra of the transporter category is the (Gorenstein) skew group algebra on the G-incidence algebra kP. We introduce a support variety theory for the category algebras of transporter categories. It extends Carlson's support variety theory on group cohomology rings to equivariant cohomology rings. In the mean time it provides a class of (usually…
