Simplicial Hochschild cochains as an Amitsur complex

It is shown that the cochain complex of relative Hochschild A-valued cochains of a depth two extension A | B under cup product is isomorphic as a differential graded algebra with the Amitsur complex of the coring S = End {}_BA_B over the centralizer R = A^B with grouplike element 1_S, which itself is isomorphic to the Cartier complex of S with coefficients in the (S,S)-bicomodule R^e. This specializes to finite dimensional algebras, H-separable extensions and Hopf-Galois extensions.

Relative cohomology of algebraic theories

We construct relative abelian categories in the sense of MacLane for models of algebraic systems in (co)complete abelian categories. As an example, we consider an analogue of Hochschild-Mitchell cohomology for the functor of Yoneda embedding.

Galois descent of additive invariants

Making use of the recent theory of noncommutative motives, we prove that every additive invariant satisfies Galois descent. Examples include mixed complexes, Hochschild homology, cyclic homology, periodic cyclic homology, negative cyclic homology, connective algebraic K-theory, mod-l algebraic K-theory, nonconnective algebraic K-theory, homotopy K-theory, topological Hochschild homology, and topological cyclic homology.

The Intrinsic Fundamental Group of a Linear Category

We provide an intrinsic definition of the fundamental group of a linear category over a ring as the automorphism group of the fibre functor on Galois coverings. If the universal covering exists, we prove that this group is isomorphic to the Galois group of the universal covering. The grading deduced from a Galois covering enables us to describe the canonical monomorphism from its automorphism group to the first Hochschild-Mitchell cohomology vector space.

On the cohomology of a Galois entwining

In this short note, we show that the cohomology of an algebra entwined with a coalgebra as defined by T. Brzeziński (J. Algebra 235 (2001), no. 1, 176--202; arXiv:math.RA/9909108) computes the Hochschild cohomology of the subalgebra of coinvariants when the extension is Galois.

André spectral sequences for Baues-Wirsching cohomology of categories

We construct spectral sequences in the framework of Baues-Wirsching cohomology and homology for functors between small categories and analyze particular cases including Grothendieck fibrations. We also give applications to more classical cohomology and homology theories including Hochschild-Mitchell cohomology and those studied before by Watts, Roos, Quillen and others.

Noncommutative Fibrations

We show that faithfully flat smooth extensions are reduced flat, and therefore, fit into the Jacobi-Zariski exact sequence in Hochschild homology and cyclic (co)homology even when the algebras are noncommutative or infinite dimensional. We observe that such extensions correspond to étale maps of affine schemes, and we propose a definition for generic noncommutative fibrations using distributive laws and homological properties of the induction and restriction functors. Cyclic Homology and Quantum Orbits

A natural isomorphism between the cyclic object computing the relative cyclic homology of a homogeneous quotient-coalgebra-Galois extension, and the cyclic object computing the cyclic homology of a Galois coalgebra with SAYD coefficients is presented. When Ext is a Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra

We show under what conditions the complex computing general Ext-groups carries the structure of a cyclic operad such that Ext becomes a Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra. This is achieved by transferring cyclic cohomology theories for the dual of a (left) Hopf algebroid to the complex in question, which asks for the notion of contramodules introduced along with comodules by Eilenberg-Moore half a century ago.
