The starting point for this work is an identity that relates the number of minimal matrices with prescribed 1-marginals and coefficient sequence to a linear combination of Kronecker coefficients. In this paper we provide a bijection that realizes combinatorially this identity. As a consequence we obtain an algorithm that to each minimal matrix associates a minimal component, with respect to the dominance order, in a Kronecker product, and a combinatorial description of the corresponding Kronecker coefficient in terms of minimal matrices and tableau insertion. Our bijection follows from a generalization of the dual RSK correspondence to 3-dimensional binary matrices, which we state and prove. With the same tools we also obtain a generalization of the RSK correspondence to 3-dimensional integer matrices.
We prove that the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence is a $\gl_{\infty}$-crystal isomorphism between two realizations of the crystal graph of a generalized Verma module with respect to a maximal parabolic subalgebra of $\gl_{\infty}$. %This extends the previously known result that %the RSK correspondence is an isomorphism of bicrystals or double %crystals. A flagged version of the RSK correspondence is derived in a natural way by computing a Demazure crystal graph of a generalized Verma module. As an application, we discuss a relation between a Demazure crystal and plane partitions with a…
We present a Robinson-Schensted-Knuth type one-to-one correspondence between the set of pictures and the set of pairs of Littlewood-Richardson crystals.
The crystal base of the modified quantized enveloping algebras of type $A_{+\infty}$ or $A_\infty$ is realized as a set of integral bimatrices. It is obtained by describing the decomposition of the tensor product of a highest weight crystal and a lowest weight crystal into extremal weight crystals, and taking its limit using a tableaux model of extremal weight crystals. This realization induces in a purely combinatorial way a bicrystal structure of the crystal base of the modified quantized enveloping algebras and hence its Peter-Weyl type decomposition generalizing the classical RSK correspon…
Super RSK correspondence is a bijective correspondence between superbiwords and pairs of semistandard supertableaux. Such a bijection was given by Bonetti, Senato and Venezia, via an insertion algorithm closely related to Schensted insertion. Notably, the symmetry property satisfied by the classical RSK bijection holds only in special cases under this bijection. We present a new super RSK bijection, based on the mixed insertion process defined by Haiman, where the symmetry property holds in complete generality.
We study asymptotic properties of sequences of partitions ($σ$\nobreakdash-algebras) in spaces with Bernoulli measures associated with the Robinson--Schensted--Knuth correspondence.
We continue work begun in \cite{ptab} which introduced \emph{perforated tableaux} as a combinatorial model for crystals of type $A_{n-1}$, emphasizing connections to the classical Robinson-Schensted-Knuth (RSK) correspondence and Lusztig involutions, and, more generally, exploring the role of insertion schemes in the analysis of crystal graphs. An essential feature of our work is the role of \emph{dual} crystals (\cite{GerberLecouvey,vanLeeuwen}) from which we obtain new results within and beyond the classic RSK theory.
We view the RSK correspondence as associating to each permutation $π\in S_n$ a Young diagram $λ=λ(π)$, i.e. a partition of $n$. Suppose now that $π$ is left-multiplied by $t$ transpositions, what is the largest number of cells in $λ$ that can change as a result? It is natural refer to this question as the search for the Lipschitz constant of the RSK correspondence. We show upper bounds on this Lipschitz constant as a function of $t$. For $t=1$, we give a construction of permutations that achieve this bound exactly. For larger $t$ we construct permutations which come close to matching the upper…
We start with an ``algebraic'' RSK-correspondence due to Noumi and Yamada. Given a matrix $X$, we consider a pyramidal array of solid minors of $X$. It turns out that this array satisfies an algebraic variant of octahedron recurrence. The main observation is that this array can also be constructed with the help of some square `genetic' array. Next we tropicalize this algebraic construction and consider $T$-{\em polarized} pyramidal arrays (that is arrays satisfying octahedral relations). As a result we get several bijections, viz: a) a linear bijection between non-negative arrays and supermodu…
We prove that the values of discrete directed polymer partition functions involving multiple non-intersecting paths remain invariant under replacing the background weights by their images under the geometric RSK correspondence. This result is inspired by a recent and remarkable identity proved by Dauvergne, Orthmann and Virág which is recovered as the zero-temperature, semi-discrete limit of our main result.
In a paper by Ghorpade and Raghavan, they provide an explicit combinatorial description of the Hilbert function of the tangent cone at any point on a Schubert variety in the symplectic Grassmannian, by giving a certain "degree-preserving" bijection between a set of monomials defined by an initial ideal and a "standard monomial basis". We prove here that this bijection is in fact a bounded RSK correspondence.
We give a new combinatorial model of the Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystals of type $A_n^{(1)}$ in terms of non-negative integral matrices based on the classical RSK algorithm, which has a simple description of the affine crystal structure without using a promotion operator. We also have a similar description of the Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystals associated to exceptional nodes in the Dynkin diagrams of classical affine or non-exceptional type.
A Richardson variety $X_\ga^\gc$ in the Orthogonal Grassmannian is defined to be the intersection of a Schubert variety $X^\gc$ in the Orthogonal Grassmannian and a opposite Schubert variety $X_\ga$ therein. We give an explicit description of the initial ideal (with respect to certain conveniently chosen term order) for the ideal of the tangent cone at any $T$-fixed point of $X_\ga^\gc$, thus generalizing a result of Raghavan-Upadhyay \cite{Ra-Up2}. Our proof is based on a generalization of the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth (RSK) correspondence, which we call the Orthogonal bounded RSK (OBRSK). The…
We present a version of the RSK correspondence based on the Pitman transform and geometric considerations. This version unifies ordinary RSK, dual RSK and continuous RSK. We show that this version is both a bijection and an isometry, two crucial properties for taking limits of last passage percolation models. We use the bijective property to give a non-computational proof that dual RSK maps Bernoulli walks to nonintersecting Bernoulli walks.
We show that the geometric lifting of the RSK correspondence introduced by A.N. Kirillov (2001) is volume preserving with respect to a natural product measure on its domain, and that the integrand in Givental's integral formula for GL(n,R)-Whittaker functions arises naturally in this context. Apart from providing further evidence that Whittaker functions are the natural analogue of Schur polynomials in this setting, our results also provide a new `combinatorial' framework for the study of random polymers. When the input matrix consists of random inverse gamma distributed weights, the probabili…
Although the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence is a classical subject, its study is still active because of new development in last two decades. In this field, fundamental results are sometimes proved by using machineries which may be bypassed. Hence we still feel a lack of good source for these elementary materials. This paper is intended to fill in this lack about the RSK correspondence and the left cells of the symmetric group. It is mostly survey-like, but shows the variety of fields the RSK correspondence is related to.
The RSK correspondence generalises the Robinson-Schensted correspondence by replacing permutation matrices by matrices with entries in ${\bf N}$, and standard Young tableaux by semistandard ones. For $r>0$, the Robinson-Schensted correspondence can be trivially extended, using the $r$-quotient map, to one between coloured permutations and pairs of standard $r$-ribbon tableaux built on a fixed $r$-core (the Stanton-White correspondence). This correspondence can also be generalised to arbitrary matrices with entries in ${\bf N}^r$ and pairs of semistandard $r$-ribbon tableaux built on a fixed $r…
We introduce and study q-randomized Robinson-Schensted-Knuth (RSK) correspondences which interpolate between the classical (q=0) and geometric (q->1) RSK correspondences (the latter ones are sometimes also called tropical). For 0<q<1 our correspondences are randomized, i.e., the result of an insertion is a certain probability distribution on semistandard Young tableaux. Because of this randomness, we use the language of discrete time Markov dynamics on two-dimensional interlacing particle arrays (these arrays are in a natural bijection with semistandard tableaux). Our dynamics act nicely on a …
Stochastic Kronecker graphs are a model for complex networks where each edge is present independently according the Kronecker (tensor) product of a fixed matrix k-by-k matrix P with entries in [0,1]. We develop a novel correspondence between the adjacencies in a general stochastic Kronecker graph and the action of a fixed Markov chain. Using this correspondence we are able to generalize the arguments of Horn and Radcliffe on the emergence of the giant component from the case where k = 2 to arbitrary k. We are also able to use this correspondence to completely analyze the connectivity of a gene…
We define a set of operations called crystal operations on matrices with entries either in {0,1} or in N. There are horizontal and vertical crystal operations, giving rise to two commuting structures of a crystal graph on these matrices. They provide a new perspective on many aspects of the RSK correspondence and its dual, and related constructions. Under a straightforward encoding of semistandard tableaux by matrices, the operations correspond to crystal operations on tableaux, respectively to individual moves occurring during a jeu de taquin slide. We show that the (dual) RSK correspondence …
We establish a fundamental connection between the geometric RSK correspondence and GL(N,R)-Whittaker functions, analogous to the well known relationship between the RSK correspondence and Schur functions. This gives rise to a natural family of measures associated with GL(N,R)-Whittaker functions which are the analogues in this setting of the Schur measures on integer partitions. The corresponding analogue of the Cauchy-Littlewood identity can be seen as a generalisation of an integral identity for GL(N,R)-Whittaker functions due to Bump and Stade. As an application, we obtain an explicit integ…
