We prove that the values of discrete directed polymer partition functions involving multiple non-intersecting paths remain invariant under replacing the background weights by their images under the geometric RSK correspondence. This result is inspired by a recent and remarkable identity proved by Dauvergne, Orthmann and Virág which is recovered as the zero-temperature, semi-discrete limit of our main result.
We show that the geometric lifting of the RSK correspondence introduced by A.N. Kirillov (2001) is volume preserving with respect to a natural product measure on its domain, and that the integrand in Givental's integral formula for GL(n,R)-Whittaker functions arises naturally in this context. Apart from providing further evidence that Whittaker functions are the natural analogue of Schur polynomials in this setting, our results also provide a new `combinatorial' framework for the study of random polymers. When the input matrix consists of random inverse gamma distributed weights, the probabili…
We show that the reformulation of the geometric Robinson-Schensted-Knuth (gRSK) correspondence via local moves, introduced in \cite{OSZ14} can be extended to cases where the input matrix is replaced by more general polygonal, Young-diagram-like, arrays of the form $\polygon$. We also show that a rearrangement of the sequence of the local moves gives rise to a geometric version of the polynuclear growth model (PNG). These reformulations are used to obtain integral formulae for the Laplace transform of the joint distribution of the point-to-point partition functions of the log-gamma polymer at d…
In [Matveev-Petrov 2016](arXiv:1504.00666) a $q$-deformed Robinson-Schensted-Knuth algorithm ($q$RSK) was introduced. In this article we give reformulations of this algorithm in terms of the Noumi-Yamada description, growth diagrams and local moves. We show that the algorithm is symmetric, namely the output tableaux pairs are swapped in a sense of distribution when the input matrix is transposed. We also formulate a $q$-polymer model based on the $q$RSK, prove the corresponding Burke property, which we use to show a strong law of large numbers for the partition function given stationary bounda…
We introduce and study q-randomized Robinson-Schensted-Knuth (RSK) correspondences which interpolate between the classical (q=0) and geometric (q->1) RSK correspondences (the latter ones are sometimes also called tropical). For 0<q<1 our correspondences are randomized, i.e., the result of an insertion is a certain probability distribution on semistandard Young tableaux. Because of this randomness, we use the language of discrete time Markov dynamics on two-dimensional interlacing particle arrays (these arrays are in a natural bijection with semistandard tableaux). Our dynamics act nicely on a …
This thesis deals with some $(1+1)$-dimensional lattice path models from the KPZ universality class: the directed random polymer with inverse-gamma weights (known as log-gamma polymer) and its zero temperature degeneration, i.e. the last passage percolation model, with geometric or exponential waiting times. We consider three path geometries: point-to-line, point-to-half-line, and point-to-line with paths restricted to stay in a half-plane. Through exact formulas, we establish new connections between integrable probabilistic models and the ubiquitous Whittaker and Schur functions. More in deta…
We characterize the law of the partition function of a Brownian directed polymer model in terms of a diffusion process associated with the quantum Toda lattice. The proof is via a multidimensional generalization of a theorem of Matsumoto and Yor concerning exponential functionals of Brownian motion. It is based on a mapping which can be regarded as a geometric variant of the RSK correspondence.
We study the partition functions associated with non-intersecting polymers in a random environment. By considering paths in series and in parallel, the partition functions carry natural notions of subadditivity, allowing the effective study of their asymptotics. For a certain choice of random environment, the geometric RSK correspondence provides an explicit representation of the partition functions in terms of a stochastic interface. Formally this leads to a variational description of the macroscopic behaviour of the interface and hence the free energy of the associated non-intersecting polym…
We establish a fundamental connection between the geometric RSK correspondence and GL(N,R)-Whittaker functions, analogous to the well known relationship between the RSK correspondence and Schur functions. This gives rise to a natural family of measures associated with GL(N,R)-Whittaker functions which are the analogues in this setting of the Schur measures on integer partitions. The corresponding analogue of the Cauchy-Littlewood identity can be seen as a generalisation of an integral identity for GL(N,R)-Whittaker functions due to Bump and Stade. As an application, we obtain an explicit integ…
We establish a symmetry in a variety of integrable stochastic systems: Certain multi-point distributions of natural observables are unchanged under a shift of a subset of observation points. The property holds for stochastic vertex models, (1+1)d directed polymers in random media, last passage percolation, the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation, and the Airy sheet. In each instance it leads to computations of previously inaccessible joint distributions. The proofs rely on a combination of the Yang-Baxter integrability of the inhomogeneous colored stochastic six-vertex model and Lagrange interpolatio…
We propose that the statistics of the optimal tour in the planar random Euclidean traveling salesman problem is conformally invariant on large scales. This is exhibited in power-law behavior of the probabilities for the tour to zigzag repeatedly between two regions, and in subleading corrections to the length of the tour. The universality class should be the same as for dense polymers and minimal spanning trees. The conjectures for the length of the tour on a cylinder are tested numerically.
We consider the partition function $Z_{\ell}(\vec x,0\vert \vec y,t)$ of $\ell$ non-intersecting continuous directed polymers of length $t$ in dimension $1+1$, in a white noise environment, starting from positions $\vec x$ and terminating at positions $\vec y$. When $\ell=1$, it is well known that for fixed $x$, the field $\log Z_1(x,0\vert y,t)$ solves the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation and admits the Brownian motion as a stationary measure. In particular, as $t$ goes to infinity, $Z_1(x,0\vert y,t)/Z_1(x,0\vert 0,t) $ converges to the exponential of a Brownian motion $B(y)$. In this article, w…
We prove an invariance principle for the two-dimensional lattice parabolic Anderson model with small potential. As applications we deduce a Donsker type convergence result for a discrete random polymer measure, as well as a universality result for the spectrum of discrete random Schrödinger operators on large boxes with small potentials. Our proof is based on paracontrolled distributions and some basic results for multiple stochastic integrals of discrete martingales.
We develop a dynamical approach to infinite volume directed polymer measures in random environments. We define polymer dynamics in 1+1 dimension as a stochastic gradient flow on polymers pinned at the origin, for energy involving quadratic nearest neighbor interaction and local interaction with random environment. We prove existence and uniqueness of the solution, continuity of the flow, the order-preserving property with respect to the coordinatewise partial order, and the invariance of the asymptotic slope. We establish ordering by noise which means that if two initial conditions have distin…
We study the long-range directed polymer model on $\mathbbm{Z}$ in a random environment, where the underlying random walk lies in the domain of attraction of an $α$-stable process for some $α\in(0,2]$. Similar to the more classic nearest-neighbor directed polymer model, as the inverse temperature $β$ increases, the model undergoes a transition from a weak disorder regime to a strong disorder regime. We extend most of the important results known for the nearest-neighbor directed polymer model on $\mathbbm{Z}^d$ to the long-range model on $\mathbbm{Z}$. More precisely, we show that in the entire…
