In this paper we focus on the initial value problem for quasi-linear dissipative plate equation in multi-dimensional space $(n\geq2)$. This equation verifies the decay property of the regularity-loss type, which causes the difficulty in deriving the global a priori estimates of solutions. We overcome this difficulty by employing a time-weighted $L^2$ energy method which makes use of the integrability of $\|(\p^2_xu_t,\p^3_xu)(t)\|_{L^{\infty}}$. This $L^\infty$ norm can be controlled by showing the optimal $L^2$ decay estimates for lower-order derivatives of solutions. Thus we obtain the desired a priori estimate which enables us to prove the global existence and asymptotic decay of solutions under smallness and enough regularity assumptions on the initial data. Moreover, we show that the solution can be approximated by a simple-looking function, which is given explicitly in terms of the fundamental solution of a fourth-order linear parabolic equation.
We address semigroup well-posedness for a linear, compressible viscous fluid interacting at its boundary with an elastic plate. We derive the model by linearizing the compressible Navier-Stokes equations about an arbitrary flow state, so the fluid PDE includes an ambient flow profile $\mathbf{U}$. In contrast to model in [Avalos, Geredeli, Webster, 2017], we track the effect of this term at the flow-structure interface, yielding a velocity matching condition involving the material derivative of the structure; this destroys the dissipative nature of the coupling of the dynamics. We adopt here a…
In this paper, by using Fourier splitting method and the expanded properties of decay character $r^*$, we establish the algebraic decay rate of higher order derivative of solutions to 2D dissipative quasi-geostrophic flows.
We give an elementary proof of the global well-posedness for the critical 2D dissipative quasi-geostrophic equation. The argument is based on a non-local maximum principle involving appropriate moduli of continuity.

We consider a quasilinear PDE system which models nonlinear vibrations of a thermoelastic plate defined on a bounded domain in R^n. Well-posedness of solutions reconstructing maximal parabolic regularity in nonlinear thermoelastic plates is established. In addition, exponential decay rates for strong solutions are also shown.
In this article we apply the method used in the recent elegant proof by Kiselev, Nazarov and Volberg of the well-posedness of critically dissipative 2D quasi-geostrophic equation to the super-critical case. We prove that if the initial value is smooth and periodic, and $\left\| \nabla θ_0 \right\|_{L^{\infty}}^{1 - 2 s} \left\| θ_0 \right\|_{L^{\infty}}^{2 s}$ is small, where $s$ is the power of the fractional Laplacian, then no finite time singularity will occur for the super-critically dissipative 2D quasi-geostrophic equation.
We introduce a new model of the logarithmic type of wave like plate equation with a nonlocal logarithmic damping mechanism. We consider the Cauchy problem for this new model in the whole space, and study the asymptotic profile and optimal decay rates of solutions as time goes to infinity in L^{2}-sense. The operator L considered in this paper was first introduced to dissipate the solutions of the wave equation in the paper studied by Charao-Ikehata in 2020. We will discuss the asymptotic property of the solution as time goes to infinity to our Cauchy problem, and in particular, we classify the…
We consider surface quasi-geostrophic equation with dispersive forcing and critical dissipation. We prove global existence of smooth solutions given sufficiently smooth initial data. This is done using a maximum principle for the solutions involving conservation of a certain family of moduli of continuity.
We study global existence and decay estimates for quasilinear wave equations with dissipative terms in the Sobolev space $H^L \times H^{L-1}$, where $L \geq [d/2]+3$. The linear dissipative terms depend on space variable coefficient, and these terms may vanish in some compact region. For the proof of global existence, we need estimates of higher order energies. To control derivatives of the dissipative coefficient, we introduce an argument using the rescaling. Furthermore we get the decay estimates with additional assumptions on the initial data. To obtain the decay estimates, the rescaling ar…
In this article I study Hölder regularity for solutions of a transport equation based in the dissipative quasi-geostrophic equation. Following a recent idea of A. Kiselev and F. Nazarov, I will use the molecular characterization of local Hardy spaces in order to obtain information on Hölder regularity of such solutions. This will be done by following the evolution of molecules in a backward equation.
We study the critical and super-critical dissipative quasi-geostrophic equations in $\bR^2$ or $\bT^2$. Higher regularity of mild solutions with arbitrary initial data in $H^{2-γ}$ is proved. As a corollary, we obtain a global existence result for the critical 2D quasi-geostrophic equations with periodic $\dot H^1$ data. Some decay in time estimates are also provided.
In this paper we show the global existence for critical dissipative quasi-geostrophic equations if $\|\widehat{θ^0}\|_{L^1}$ is small enough; among others we prove the analyticity of such a solution. If in addition the initial condition verifies $|D|^{-δ}θ^0\in L^1(\mathbb R^2)$ with $0<δ<1$, then the solution remains regular and $\lim_{t\rightarrow\infty}t^δ\|\widehatθ(t)\|_{L^1}=0$. Fourier analysis and standard techniques are used.
The 2D quasi-geostrophic (QG) equation is a two dimensional model of the 3D incompressible Euler equations. When dissipation is included in the model then solutions always exist if the dissipation's wave number dependence is super-linear. Below this critical power the dissipation appears to be insufficient. For instance, it is not known if the critical dissipative QG equation has global smooth solutions for arbitrary large initial data. In this paper we prove existence and uniqueness of global classical solutions of the critical dissipative QG equation for initial data that have small $L^\inft…
A rectangular plate modeling the deck of a suspension bridge is considered. The plate may widely oscillate, which suggests to consider models from nonlinear elasticity. The von Kármán plate model is studied, complemented with the action of the hangers and with suitable boundary conditions describing the behavior of the deck. The oscillating modes are determined in full detail. Existence and multiplicity of static equilibria are then obtained under different assumptions on the strength of the buckling load.
We show a new Bernstein's inequality which generalizes the results of Cannone-Planchon, Danchin and Lemarié-Rieusset. As an application of this inequality, we prove the global well-posedness of the 2D quasi-geostrophic equation with the critical and super-critical dissipation for the small initial data in the critical Besov space, and local well-posedness for the large initial data.
We identify effective models for thin, linearly elastic and perfectly plastic plates exhibiting a microstructure resulting from the periodic alternation of two elastoplastic phases. We study here both the case in which the thickness of the plate converges to zero on a much faster scale than the periodicity parameter and the opposite scenario in which homogenization occurs on a much finer scale than dimension reduction. After performing a static analysis of the problem, we show convergence of the corresponding quasistatic evolutions. The methodology relies on two-scale convergence and periodic …
We consider a nonlinear (Berger or Von Karman) clamped plate model with a {\em piston-theoretic} right hand side---which include non-dissipative, non-conservative lower order terms. The model arises in aeroelasticity when a panel is immersed in a high velocity linear potential flow; in this case the effect of the flow can be captured by a dynamic pressure term written in terms of the material derivative of the plate's displacement. The effect of fully-supported internal damping is studied for both Berger and von Karman dynamics. The non-dissipative nature of the dynamics preclude the use of st…
In this paper, we consider the modified quasi-geostrophic equation \begin{gather*} \del_t θ+ (u \cdot \grad) θ+ κΛ^αθ= 0 u = Λ^{α- 1} R^{\perp}θ. \end{gather*} with $κ> 0$, $α\in (0,1]$ and $θ_0 \in \lp{2}(\R^2)$. We remark that the extra $Λ^{α- 1}$ is introduced in order to make the scaling invariance of this system similar to the scaling invariance of the critical quasi-geostrophic equations. In this paper, we use Besov space techniques to prove global existence and regularity of strong solutions to this system.
In this paper, we consider the following modified quasi-geostrophic equations $\partial_tθ+Λ^αθ+u\vec\nablaθ=0$, $u=Λ^{α-1}\mathcal{R}^\perp(θ)$ where $α\in ]0,1[$ is a fixed parameter. This equation was recently introduced by P. Constantin, G. Iyer and J. Wu in \cite{CIW} as a modification of the classical quasi-geostrophic equation. In this paper, we prove that for any initial data $θ_\ast$ in the Sobolev space $H^1(\mathbb{R}^2),$ the equation (MQG) has a global and smooth solution $θ$ in $C(\mathbb{R}^{+},H^1(\mathbb{R}^2)) .$
In this article, we study the critical dissipative surface quasi-geostrophic equation (SQG) in $ \mathbb{R}^2$. Motivated by the study of the homogeneous statistical solutions of this equation, we show that for any large initial data $θ_{0}$ liying in the space $Λ^{s} (\dot H^{s}_{uloc}(\mathbb{R}^2)) \cap L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^2)$ the critical (SQG) has a global weak solution in time for all $1/2< s<1$. Our proof is based on an energy inequality verified by the truncated $(SQG)_{R,\ep}$ equation. By classical compactness arguments, we show that we are able to pass to the limit ($R \rightarrow \…
Recently, Silvestre proved that certain weak solutions of the slightly supercritical surface quasi-geostrophic equation eventually become smooth. To prove this, he employed a De Giorgi type argument originated in the work of Caffarelli and Vasseur. Kiselev and Nazarov proved a variation of the result of Caffarelli and Vasseur by introducing a class of test functions. Motivated by the results of Silvestre, we will modify the class of test functions from the work of Kiselev and Nazarov and use this modified class to show that a solution to the supercritical SQG that is smooth up to a certain tim…
We consider the family of singularly nonautonomous plate equation with structural damping \[ u_{tt} + a(t,x)u_{t} + (- Δ) u_{t} + (-Δ)^{2} u + λu = f(u), \] in a bounded domain $Ω\subset \R^n$, with Navier boundary conditions. When the nonlinearity $f$ is dissipative we show that this problem is globally well posed in $H^2_0(Ω) \times L^2(Ω)$ and has a family of pullback attractors which is upper-semicontinuous under small perturbations of the damping $a$.
We consider an initial-boundary-value problem for a thermoelastic Kirchhoff & Love plate, thermally insulated and simply supported on the boundary, incorporating rotational inertia and a quasilinear hypoelastic response, while the heat effects are modeled using the hyperbolic Maxwell-Cattaneo-Vernotte law giving rise to a 'second sound' effect. We study the local well-posedness of the resulting quasilinear mixed-order hyperbolic system in a suitable solution class of smooth functions mapping into Sobolev $H^{k}$-spaces. Exploiting the sole source of energy dissipation entering the system throu…
This paper is devoted to the global (in time) regularity problem for a family of active scalar equations with fractional dissipation. Each component of the velocity field $u$ is determined by the active scalar $θ$ through $\mathcal{R} Λ^{-1} P(Λ) θ$ where $\mathcal{R}$ denotes a Riesz transform, $Λ=(-Δ)^{1/2}$ and $P(Λ)$ represents a family of Fourier multiplier operators. The 2D Navier-Stokes vorticity equations correspond to the special case $P(Λ)=I$ while the surface quasi-geostrophic (SQG) equation to $P(Λ) =Λ$. We obtain the global regularity for a class of equations for which $P(Λ)$ and …
This paper is concerned with quasilinear systems of partial differential equations consisting of two hyperbolic operators interacting dissipatively. Its main theorem establishes global-in-time existence and asymptotic stability of strong solutions to the Cauchy problem close to homogeneous reference states. Notably, the operators are not required to be symmetric hyperbolic, instead merely the existence of symbolic symmetrizers is assumed. The dissipation is characterized by conditions equivalent to the uniform decay of all Fourier modes at the reference state. On a technical level, the theory …
In this paper, we consider the two-dimensional surface quasi-geostrophic equation with fractional horizontal dissipation and fractional vertical thermal diffusion. Global existence of classical solutions is established when the dissipation powers are restricted to a suitable range. Due to the nonlocality of these 1D fractional operators, some of the standard energy estimate techniques no longer apply, to overcome this difficulty, we establish several anisotropic embedding and interpolation inequalities involving fractional derivatives. In addition, in order to bypass the unavailability of the …
Under the action of a time-periodic external forces we prove the existence of at least one time-periodic weak solution for the interaction between a three-dimensional incompressible fluid, governed by the Navier- Stokes equation and a two dimensional elastic plate. The challenge is that the Eulerian domain for the fluid changes in time and is a part of the solution. We introduce a two fixed-point methodology: First we construct a time-periodic solutions for a given variable time-periodic geometry. Then in a second step a (set-valued) fixed point is performed w.r.t.\ the geometry of the domain.…
This paper is devoted to the study of the dynamical behavior of the critically dissipative quasi-geostrophic equation in $\textbf{T}^2$. We prove that this system possesses time-dependent periodic solutions, bifurcating from a smooth steady solution, i.e. a Hopf-Bifurcation theorem.
We address the decay of the norm of weak solutions to the 2D dissipative quasi-geostrophic equation. When the initial data is in $L^2$ only, we prove that the $L^2$ norm tends to zero but with no uniform rate, that is, there are solutions with arbitrarily slow decay. For the initial data in $L^p \cap L^2$, with $1 \leq p < 2$, we are able to obtain a uniform decay rate in $L^2$. We also prove that when the $L^{\frac{2}{2 α-1}}$ norm of the initial data is small enough, the $L^q$ norms, for $q > \frac{2}{2 α-1}$ have uniform decay rates. This result allows us to prove decay for the $L^q$ norms,…
We consider the initial value problem for the 2D quasi-geostrophic equation with weak dissipation term $κ(-Δ)^{α/2}θ (0<α\leqslant 1)$ and dispersive forcing term $Au_2$. We establish a unique global solution for a given initial data $θ_0$ which belongs to the scaling subcritical Sobolev space $H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)\ (s>2-α)$ if the size of dispersion parameter is sufficiently large. This phenomenon is so-called the global regularity. We also obtain the relationship between the initial data and the dispersion parameter, which ensures the existence of the global solution. Moreover, we show the glob…
The quasigeostrophic model is a simplified geophysical fluid model at asymptotically high rotation rate or at small Rossby number. We consider the quasigeostrophic equation with dissipation under random forcing in bounded domains. We show that global unique solutions exist for appropriate initial data. Unlike the deterministic quasigeostrophic equation whose well-posedness is well-known, there seems no rigorous result on global existence and uniqueness of the randomly forced quasigeostrophic equation. Our work provides such a rigorous result on global existence and uniqueness, under very mild …
On the set of dissipative solutions to the multi-dimensional isentropic Euler equations we introduce a quasi-order by comparing the acceleration at all times. This quasi-order is continuous with respect to a suitable notion of convergence of dissipative solutions. We establish the existence of minimal elements. Minimizing the acceleration amounts to selecting dissipative solutions that are as close to being a weak solution as possible.
We study an initial-boundary-value problem for a quasilinear thermoelastic plate of Kirchhoff \& Love-type with parabolic heat conduction due to Fourier, mechanically simply supported and held at the reference temperature on the boundary. For this problem, we show the short-time existence and uniqueness of classical solutions under appropriate regularity and compatibility assumptions on the data. Further, we use barrier techniques to prove the global existence and exponential stability of solutions under a smallness condition on the initial data. It is the first result of this kind established…
This is a remark that by using an adaptation of the technique invented by A. Kiselev, F. Nazarov, and A. Voldberg, with a modified scaling argument, we can prove global regularity of the critical 2-D dissipative quasi-geostrophic equation with smooth periodic force, under the assumption that the initial data is smooth and periodic, and the force is $α$-Hölder continuous in space, $α> 0$.
We study the critical dissipative quasi-geostrophic equations in $\bR^2$ with arbitrary $H^1$ initial data. After showing certain decay estimate, a global well-posedness result is proved by adapting the method in [11] with a suitable modification. A decay in time estimate for higher order homogeneous Sobolev norms of solutions is also discussed.
In this work we want to explore the relationship between certain eigenvalue condition for the symbols of first order partial differential operators describing evolution processes and the linear and nonlinear stability of their stationary solutions.
A Gevrey class semigroup, exponential decay and Lack of analyticity for a system formed by a Kirchhoff-Love plate equation and the equation of a membrane-like electric network with indirect fractional damping
We consider the 2D quasi-geostrophic equation with supercritical dissipation and dispersive forcing in the whole space. When the dispersive amplitude parameter is large enough, we prove the global well-posedness of strong solution to the equation with large initial data. We also show the strong convergence result as the amplitude parameter goes to $\infty$. Both results rely on the Strichartz-type estimates for the corresponding linear equation.
We prove the global well-posedness of the critical dissipative quasi-geostrophic equation for large initial data belonging to the critical Besov space $\dot B^0_{\infty,1}(\RR^2).$
In this paper, we prove that if the initial data $θ_0$ and its Riesz transforms ($\mathcal{R}_1(θ_0)$ and $\mathcal{R}_2(θ_0)$) belong to the space $(\overline{S(\mathbb{R}^2))}^{B_{\infty}^{1-2α,\infty}}$, where $α\in ]1/2,1[$, then the 2D Quasi-Geostrophic equation with dissipation $α$ has a unique global in time solution $θ$. Moreover, we show that if in addition $θ_0 \in X$ for some functional space $X$ such as Lebesgue, Sobolev and Besov's spaces then the solution $θ$ belongs to the space $C([0,+\infty [,X).$
We consider several models of nonlinear wave equations subject to very strong damping and quasi-periodic external forcing. This is a singular perturbation, since the damping is not the highest order term. We study the existence of response solutions (i.e., quasi-periodic solutions with the same frequency as the forcing). Under very general non-resonance conditions on the frequency, we show the existence of asymptotic expansions of the response solution; moreover, we prove that the response solution indeed exists and depends analytically on $\varepsilon$ (where $\varepsilon$ is the inverse of t…
This paper considers systems of balance law with a dissipative non local source. A global in time well posedness result is obtained. Estimates on the dependence of solutions from the flow and from the source term are also provided. The technique relies on a recent result on quasidifferential equations in metric spaces.
We prove that well posed quasilinear equations of parabolic type, perturbed by bounded nondegenerate random forces, are exponentially mixing for a large class of random forces.
In this paper we consider the following modified quasi-geostrophic equation \partial_{t}θ+u\cdot\nablaθ+ν|D|^αθ=0, \quad u=|D|^{α-1}\mathcal{R}^{\bot}θ,\quad x\in\mathbb{R}^2 with $ν>0$ and $α\in ]0,1[\,\cup \,]1,2[$. When $α\in]0,1[$, the equation was firstly introduced by Constantin, Iyer and Wu in \cite{ref ConstanIW}. Here, by using the modulus of continuity method, we prove the global well-posedness of the system with the smooth initial data. As a byproduct, we also show that for every $α\in ]0,2[$, the Lipschitz norm of the solution has a uniform exponential bound.
In this article we study the asymptotic behavior of solutions, in sense of global pullback attractors, of the evolution system $$ \begin{cases} u_{tt} +ηΔ^2 u+a(t)Δθ=f(t,u), & t>τ,\ x\inΩ,\\ θ_t-κΔθ-a(t)Δu_t=0, & t>τ,\ x\inΩ, \end{cases} $$ subject to boundary conditions $$ u=Δu=θ=0,\ t>τ,\ x\in\partialΩ, $$ where $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$ with $N\geqslant 2$, which boundary $\partialΩ$ is assumed to be a $\mathcal{C}^4$-hypersurface, $η>0$ and $κ>0$ are constants, $a$ is an Hölder continuous function, $f$ is a dissipative nonlinearity locally Lipschitz in the second variable.
