Following our previous paper in the radial case, we consider blow-up type II solutions to the energy-critical focusing wave equation. Let W be the unique radial positive stationary solution of the equation. Up to the symmetries of the equation, under an appropriate smallness assumption, any type II blow-up solution is asymptotically a regular solution plus a rescaled Lorentz transform of W concentrating at the origin.
In this paper we introduce the channel of energy argument to the study of energy critical wave maps into the sphere. More precisely, we prove a channel of energy type inequality for small energy wave maps, and as an application we show that for a wave map that has energy just above the degree one harmonic maps and that blows up in finite time, the solution asymptotically de-couples into a regular part plus a traveling wave with small momentum, in the energy space. In particular, the only possible form of energy concentration is through the concentration of traveling waves. This is often called…
Consider the energy critical focusing wave equation on the Euclidian space. A blow-up type II solution of this equation is a solution which has finite time of existence but stays bounded in the energy space. The aim of this work is to exhibit universal properties of such solutions. Let W be the unique radial positive stationary solution of the equation. Our main result is that in dimension 3, under an appropriate smallness assumption, any type II blow-up radial solution is essentially the sum of a rescaled W concentrating at the origin and a small remainder which is continuous with respect to …
We study a class of Hartree type equations and prove a quantitative blow up rate for their blow up solutions. This is an analogue of the result by Merle and Raphaël on 3d NLS.
We consider the simplest parabolic-elliptic model of chemotaxis in the whole space in several dimensions. Criteria for the blowup of radially symmetric solutions in terms of suitable Morrey spaces norms are derived.
In this paper we consider the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger (INLS) equation \begin{align}\label{inls} i \partial_t u +Δu +|x|^{-b} |u|^{2σ}u = 0, \,\,\, x \in \mathbb{R}^N \end{align} with $N\geq 3$. We focus on the intercritical case, where the scaling invariant Sobolev index $s_c=\frac{N}{2}-\frac{2-b}{2σ}$ satisfies $0<s_c<1$. In a previous work, for radial initial data in $\dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^1$, we prove the existence of blow-up solutions and also a lower bound for the blow-up rate. Here we extend these results to the non-radial case. We also prove an upper bound for the blow-up…
We consider the semilinear wave equation in the radial case with conformal subcritical power nonlinearity. If we consider a blow-up point different from the origin, then we exhibit a new Lyapunov functional which is a perturbation of the one dimensional case and extend all our previous results known in the one-dimensional case. In particular, we show that the blow-up set near non-zero non-characteristic points is of class $C^1$, and that the set of characteristic points is made of concentric spheres in finite number in $\{\frac 1R \le |x|\le R\}$ for any $R>1$.
We consider the focusing energy-critical wave equation in space dimension $N\in \{3, 4, 5\}$ for radial data. We study type II blow-up solutions which concentrate one bubble of energy. It is known that such solutions decompose in the energy space as a sum of the bubble and an asymptotic profile. We prove bounds on the blow-up speed in the case when the asymptotic profile is sufficiently regular. These bounds are optimal in dimension $N = 5$. We also prove that if the asymptotic profile is sufficiently regular, then it cannot be strictly negative at the origin.
We consider the $L^2$ critical inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger (INLS) equation in $\mathbb{R}^N$ $$ i \partial_t u +Δu +|x|^{-b} |u|^{\frac{4-2b}{N}}u = 0, $$ where $N\geq 1$ and $0<b<2$. We prove that if $u_0\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^N)$ satisfies $E[u_0]<0$, then the corresponding solution blows-up in finite time. This is in sharp contrast to the classical $L^2$ critical NLS equation where this type of result is only known in the radial case for $N\geq 2$.
We consider in this paper a large class of perturbed semilinear wave equations with critical (in the conformal transform sense) power nonlinearity. We will show that the blow-up rate of any singular solution is given by the solution of the non-perturbed associated ODE. The result in the radial case has been proved in [13]. The same approach will be followed here, but the main difference is to construct a Lyapunov functional in similarity variables valid in the non-radial case, which is far from being trivial. That functional is obtained by combining some classical estimates and a new identity …
We consider the quadratic nonlinear Schrödinger system \begin{align*} \begin{cases} i\partial_t u +Δu =v \overline{u},\\ i\partial_t v +κΔv =u^2, \end{cases} \text{ on } I \times \mathbb{R}^d, \end{align*} where $1\leq d \leq 6$ and $κ>0$. In the lower dimensional case $d=1,2,3$, it is known that the $H^1$-solution is global in time. On the other hand, there are finite time blow-up solutions when $d=4,5,6$ and $κ=1/2$. The condition of $κ=1/2$ is called mass-resonance. In this paper, we prove finite time blow-up under radially symmetric assumption when $d=5,6$ and $κ\neq 1/2$ and we show blow-…
We investigate the behaviour of radial solutions to the Lin-Ni-Takagi problem in the ball $B_R \subset \mathbb{R}^N$ for $N \ge 3$: \begin{equation*} \left \{ \begin{aligned} - \triangle u_p + u_p & = |u_p|^{p-2}u_p & \textrm{ in } B_R, \\ \partial_νu_p & = 0 & \textrm{ on } \partial B_R, \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation*} when $p $ is close to the first critical Sobolev exponent $2^* = \frac{2N}{N-2}$. We obtain a complete classification of finite energy radial smooth blowing up solutions to this problem. We describe the conditions preventing blow-up as $p \to 2^*$, we give the necessary c…
We consider the semilinear heat equation in large dimension $d\geq 11$ $$ \partial_t u =Δu+|u| ^{p-1}u, \ \ p=2q+1, \ \ q\in \mathbb N $$ on a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb R^d$ with Dirichlet boundary condition. In the supercritical range $p\geq p(d)>1+\frac{4}{d-2}$ we prove the existence of a countable family $(u_\ell)_{\ell \in \mathbb N}$ of solutions blowing-up at time $T>0$ with type II blow up: $$ \parallel u_{\ell}(t) \parallel_{L^{\infty}} \sim C (T-t)^{-c_\ell} $$ with blow-up speed $c_\ell>\frac{1}{p-1}$. They concentrate the ground state $Q$ being the only radially and d…
In this paper we consider nodal radial solutions $u_ε$ to the problem \[ \begin{cases} -Δu=λue^{u^2+|u|^{1+ε}}&\text{ in }B,\\ u=0&\text{ on }\partial B. \end{cases} \] and we study their asymptotic behaviour as $ε\searrow0$, $ε>0$. We show that when $u_ε$ has $k$ interior zeros, it exhibits a multiple blow-up behaviour in the first $k$ nodal sets while it converges to the least energy solution of the problem with $ε=0$ in the $(k+1)$-th one. We also prove that in each concentration set, with an appropriate scaling, $u_ε$ converges to the solution of the classical Liouville problem in $R^2$.
We consider the wave equation in space dimension $3$, with an energy-supercritical nonlinearity which can be either focusing or defocusing. For any radial solution of the equation, with positive maximal time of existence $T$, we prove that one of the following holds: (i) the norm of the solution in the critical Sobolev space goes to infinity as $t$ goes to $T$, or (ii) $T$ is infinite and the solution scatters to a linear solution forward in time. We use a variant of the channel of energy method, relying on a generalized $L^p$-energy which is almost conserved by the flow of the radial linear w…
In this paper, we deal with the following quasilinear elliptic system involving gradient terms in the form: \begin{center} $\begin{cases} Δ_p u= v^m| \nabla u |^α& \text{in}\quad Ω\\ Δ_p v= v^β| \nabla u |^q & \text{in}\quad Ω, \end{cases}$ \end{center} where $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N(N\geq 2)$ is either equal to $ \mathbb{R}^N $ or equal to a ball $B_R$ centered at the origin and having radius $R>0$, $1<p<\infty$, $m,q>0$, $α\geq 0$, $0\leq β\leq m$ and $δ:=(p-1-α)(p-1-β)-qm \neq 0$. Our aim is to establish the asymptotics of the blowing-up radial solutions to the above system. Precisely, we prov…
In this paper, we are concerned with solutions to the Cauchy problem for Chern-Simons-Schrödinger equations in the mass supercritical case. First we establish the local well-posedness of solutions in the radial space. Then we consider scattering versus blow-up dichotomy for radial data below the ground state threshold.

We consider the focusing fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ i\partial_t u - (-Δ)^s u = -|u|^αu, \quad (t,x) \in \mathbb{R}^+ \times \mathbb{R}^d, \] where $s \in (1/2,1)$ and $α>0$. By using localized virial estimates, we establish general blow-up criteria for non-radial solutions to the equation. As consequences, we obtain blow-up criteria in both $L^2$-critical and $L^2$-supercritical cases which extend the results of Boulenger-Himmelsbach-Lenzmann [{\it Blowup for fractional NLS}, J. Funct. Anal. 271 (2016), 2569--2603] for non-radial initial data.
In this paper, we consider the energy critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a repulsive inverse square potential. In particular, we deal with radial initial data, whose energy is equal to the energy of static solution to the corresponding nonlinear Schrödinger equation without a potential. We investigate time behavior of the radial solutions with such initial data.
We are concerned with the existence and boundary behaviour of positive radial solutions for the system \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{aligned} Δu&=g(|x|,v(x)) &&\quad\mbox{in}\ Ω, \\ Δv&=f(|x|,|\nabla u(x)|) &&\quad\mbox{in}\ Ω, \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation*} where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$ is either a ball centered at the origin or the whole space $\mathbb{R}^N$, and $f,g\in C^{1}([0,\infty)\times [0,\infty))$, are non-negative, and increasing. Firstly, we study the existence of positive radial solutions in the case when the system is posed in a ball corresponding to their behaviour at…
We study positive radial solutions of quasilinear elliptic systems with a gradient term in the form $$ \left\{ \begin{aligned} Δ_{p} u&=v^{m}|\nabla u|^α&&\quad\mbox{ in }Ω,\\ Δ_{p} v&=v^β|\nabla u|^{q} &&\quad\mbox{ in }Ω, \end{aligned} \right. $$ where $Ω\subset\R^N$ $(N\geq 2)$ is either a ball or the whole space, $1<p<\infty$, $m, q>0$, $α\geq 0$, $0\leq β\leq m$ and $(p-1-α)(p-1-β)-qm\neq 0$. We first classify all the positive radial solutions in case $Ω$ is a ball, according to their behavior at the boundary. Then we obtain that the system has non-constant global solutions if and only if…
We consider the energy super critical semilinear heat equation $$\partial_t u=Δu+u^{p}, \ \ x\in \mathbb R^3, \ \ p>5.$$ We first revisit the construction of radially symmetric backward self similar solutions and propose a bifurcation type argument which allows for a sharp control of the spectrum of the corresponding linearized operator in suitable weighted spaces. We then show how the sole knowledge of this spectral gap in weighted spaces implies the finite codimensional non radial stability of these solutions for smooth well localized initial data using energy bounds. The whole scheme draws …
We consider the following class of focusing $L^2$-supercritical fourth-order nonlinear Schrödinger equations \[ i\partial_t u - Δ^2 u + μΔu = - |u|^αu, \quad (t,x) \in \mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{R}^N, \] where $N\geq 2$, $μ\geq 0$, and $\frac{8}{N}<α<α^*$ with $α^*:=\frac{8}{N-4}$ if $N\geq 5$ and $α^*=\infty$ if $N\leq 4$. By using the localized Morawetz estimates and radial Sobolev embedding, we establish the energy scattering below the ground state threshold for the equation with radially symmetric initial data. We also address the existence of finite time blow-up radial solutions to the equ…
The aim of this paper is to refine some results concerning the blow-up of solutions of the exponential reaction-diffusion equation. We consider solutions that blow-up in finite time, but continue to exist as weak solutions beyond the blow-up time. The main result is that these solutions become regular immediately after the blow-up time. This result improves on that of Fila, Matano and Polácik, who consider radially nonincreasing solutions, whereas no such assumption is needed here. Under certain additional assumptions we also obtain that the regularization is asymptotically selfsimilar. Moreov…
We consider the semilinear heat equation \begin{equation}\label{problemAbstract}\left\{\begin{array}{ll}v_t-Δv= |v|^{p-1}v & \mbox{in}Ω\times (0,T)\\ v=0 & \mbox{on}\partial Ω\times (0,T)\\ v(0)=v_0 & \mbox{in}Ω\end{array}\right.\tag{$\mathcal P_p$} \end{equation} where $p>1$, $Ω$ is a smooth bounded domain of $\mathbb R^2$, $T\in (0,+\infty]$ and $v_0$ belongs to a suitable space. We give general conditions for a family $u_p$ of sign-changing stationary solutions of \eqref{problemAbstract}, under which the solution of \eqref{problemAbstract} with initial value $v_0=λu_p$ blows up in finite ti…
We consider the parabolic-parabolic two-dimensional Patlak-Keller-Segel problem. We prove the existence of stable blow-up dynamics in finite time in the radial case. We extend in this article the result of [36] for the parabolic-elliptic case.
In this paper, we consider a class of the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ i\partial_t u + Δu + |x|^{-b} |u|^αu = 0, \quad u(0)=u_0 \in H^1(\mathbb{R}^d), \] with $0<b<\min\{2,d\}$ and $α_\star\leq α<α^\star$ where $α_\star =\frac{4-2b}{d}$ and $α^\star=\frac{4-2b}{d-2}$ if $d\geq 3$ and $α^\star = \infty$ if $d=1,2$. In the mass-critical case $α=α_\star$, we prove that if $u_0$ has negative energy and satisfies either $xu_0 \in L^2$ with $d\geq 1$ or $u_0$ is radial with $d\geq 2$, then the corresponding solution blows up in finite time. Moreover, when $d=1$, we prove …
We consider non-topological solutions of a nonlinear elliptic system problem derived from the $SU(3)$ Chern-Simons models in $\mathbb{R}^2$. The existence of non-topological solutions even for radial symmetric case has been a long standing open problem. Recently, [Choe, Kim, Lin (2015, 2016)] showed the existence of radial symmetric non-topological solution when the vortex points collapse. However, the arguments in [Choe, Kim, Lin (2015, 2016)] cannot work for an arbitrary configuration of vortex points. In this paper, we develop a new approach by using different scalings for different compone…
We give blow-up results for the Klein-Gordon equation and other perturbations of the semilinear wave equations with superlinear power nonlinearity, in one space dimension or in higher dimension under radial symmetry outside the origin.
We consider the initial value problem for the spherically symmetric, focusing cubic wave equation in three spatial dimensions. We give numerical and analytical evidence for the existence of a universal attractor which encompasses both global and blowup solutions. As a byproduct we get an explicit description of the critical behavior at the threshold of blowup.
We consider the $L^2$-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with the delta potential $$i\partial_tu +\partial^2_x u + μδu +|u|^{4}u=0, \, \, t\in \R, \, x\in \R , $$ where $ μ\in \R$, and $δ$ is the Dirac delta distribution at $x=0$. Local well-posedness theory together with sharp Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality and the conservation laws of mass and energy implies that the solution with mass less than $\|Q\|_{2}$ is global existence in $H^1(\R)$, where $Q$ is the ground state of the $L^2$-critical NLS without the delta potential (i.e. $μ=0$). We are interested in the dynamics of the sol…
Guderley's 1942 work on radial shock waves provides cases of self-similar Euler flows exhibiting blowup of primary (undifferentiated) flow variables: a converging shock wave invades a quiescent region, and the velocity and pressure in its immediate wake become unbounded at time of collapse. However, these solutions are of border-line physicality: the pressure vanishes within the quiescent region due to vanishing temperature there. It is reasonable that the lack of upstream counter-pressure is conducive to large speeds, with concomitant large amplitudes. Based on Guderley's original solutions i…
We consider the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger (INLS) equation in $\mathbb{R}^N$ $$i \partial_t u +Δu +|x|^{-b} |u|^{2σ}u = 0,$$ where $N\geq 3$, $0<b<\min\left\{\frac{N}{2},2\right\}$ and $\frac{2-b}{N}<σ<\frac{2-b}{N-2}$. The scaling invariant Sobolev space is $\dot{H}^{s_c}$ with $s_c=\frac{N}{2}-\frac{2-b}{2σ}$. The restriction on $σ$ implies $0<s_c<1$ and the equation is called intercritical (i.e. mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical). Let $u_0\in \dot H^{s_c}\cap \dot H^1$ be a radial initial data and $u(t)$ the corresponding solution to the INLS equation. We first show that if…
This article is the continued version of the analytical blowup solutions for 2-dimensional Euler-Poisson equations \cite{Y1}. With extension of the blowup solutions with radial symmetry for the isothermal Euler-Poisson equations in $R^{2}$, other special blowup solutions in $R^{2}$ with non-radial symmetry are constructed by the separation method. We notice that the results are the first evolutionary solutions with non-radial symmetry for the system. The initial value problem for the homogeneous Schrödinger equation is investigated for radially symmetric initial data with slow decay rates and not too wild oscillations. Our global wellposedness results apply to initial data for which Strichartz estimates fail.
We consider the defocusing nonlinear wave equation $u_{tt}-Δu + |u|^p u=0$ with spherically-symmetric initial data in the regime $\frac4{d-2}<p<\frac4{d-3}$ (which is energy-supercritical) and dimensions $3\leq d\leq 6$; we also consider $d\geq 7$, but for a smaller range of $p>\frac4{d-2}$. The principal result is that blowup (or failure to scatter) must be accompanied by blowup of the critical Sobolev norm. An equivalent formulation is that maximal-lifespan solutions with bounded critical Sobolev norm are global and scatter.
This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem for the semilinear wave equation: $u_{tt}-Δu=F(u) \ \mbox{in} \ R^n\times[0, \infty)$, where the space dimension $n \ge 2$, $F(u)=|u|^p$ or $F(u)=|u|^{p-1}u$ with $p>1$. Here, the Cauchy data are non-zero and non-compactly supported. Our results on the blow-up of positive radial solutions (not necessarily radial in low dimensions $n=2, 3$) generalize and extend the results of Takamura(1995) and Takamura, Uesaka and Wakasa(2011). The main technical difficulty in the paper lies in obtaining the lower bounds for the free solution when both initial p…
We consider the focusing inhomogeneous mass critical half-wave equation in one dimension. Under the mild conditions of the inhomogeneous factor, we show that the existence of the radial blowup solutions with ground state mass $\|u_0\|_2=\|Q\|_2$, where $Q$ is the unique positive ground state solution of equation $DQ+Q=Q^3$ and obtain the blowup rate $\|D^{\frac{1}{2}}u(t)\|_{L^2}\sim\frac{1}{|t|}$ as $t\nearrow 0^-$.
