We prove, for the energy critical, focusing NLS, that for data whose energy is smaller than that of the standing wave, and whose homogeneous Sobolev norm H^1 is smaller than that of the standing wave and which is radial, we have global well-posedness and scattering in dimensions 3, 4 and 5. This is sharp since if the data is in the inhomogeneous Sobolev space H^1, of energy smaller than the standing wave but of larger homogeneous H^1 norm, we have blow-up in finite time. The result follows from a general method that we introduce into this type of critical problem. By concentration-compactness we produce a critical element, which modulo the symmetries of the equation is compact, has minimal energy among those which fail to have the conclusion of our theorem. In addition, we show that the dilation parameter in the symmetry, for this solution, can be taken strictly positive. We then establish a rigidity theorem that shows that no such compact, modulo symmetries, object can exist. It is only at this step that we use the radial hypothesis. The same analysis, in a simplified form, applies also to the defocusing case, giving a new proof of results of Bourgain and Tao.
We consider the Cauchy problem for the $L^{2}$-critical damped nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We prove existence and stability of finite time blowup dynamics with the log-log blow-up speed for $\|\nabla u(t)\|_{L^2}$.
Given $p$ points in a bounded domain of $\R^d$, with $d=2,3$, we show the existence of solutions of the $L^2$-critical focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation blowing up exactly in these points.
For the Schrödinger map problem from 2+1 dimensions into the 2-sphere we prove the existence of equivariant finite time blow up solutions that are close to a dynamically rescaled lowest energy harmonic map, the scaling parameter being given by $t^{-ν}$ with $ν>3/2$.
We consider the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with $L^2$-critical exponent and an inhomogeneous damping term. By using the tools developed by Merle and Raphael, we prove the existence of blowup phenomena in the energy space $H^1(\mathbb{R})$.
In this paper we study dynamical properties of blowup solutions to the focusing mass-critical nonlinear fractional Schrödinger equation. We establish a profile decomposition and a compactness lemma related to the equation. As a result, we obtain the $L^2$-concentration and the limiting profile with minimal mass of blowup solutions.
We consider a mass critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a real-valued potential. In this work, we construct a minimal mass solution that blows up at finite time, under weaker assumptions on spatial dimensions and potentials than Banica, Carles, and Duyckaerts (2011). Moreover, we show that the blow-up solution converges to a blow-up profile. Furthermore, we improve some parts of the arguments in Raphaël and Szeftel (2011) and Le Coz, Martel, and Raphaël (2016).
In this article, we provide a simple method for constructing dispersive blow-up solutions to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Our construction mainly follows the approach in Bona, Ponce, Saut and Sparber [2]. However, we make use of the dispersive estimate to enjoy the smoothing effect of the Schrödinger propagator in the integral term appearing in Duhamel's formula. In this way, not only do we simplify the argument, but we also reduce the regularity requirement to construct dispersive blow-ups. In addition, we provide more examples of dispersive blow-ups by constructing solutions that blow…
We study the initial value problem for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We will prove that the blow-up of the L^{2}-norm of solutions with suitable initial data. We impose a condition related to the sign of the data but put no restriction on their size.
We prove blow up results for the solution of the initial value problem with negative energy of the focusing mass-critical and supercritical nonlinear Schrödinger and the focusing energy-subcritical nonlinear wave equations with electromagnetic potential.
In this paper we concentrate on the analysis of the critical mass blowing-up solutions for the cubic focusing Schrödinger equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions, posed on a plane domain. We bound the blow-up rate from below, for bounded and unbounded domains. If the blow-up occurs on the boundary, the blow-up rate is proved to grow faster than $(T-t)^{-1}$, the expected one. Moreover, we show that blow-up cannot occur on the boundary, under certain geometric conditions on the domain.
We consider the blowup rate for blowup solutions to $L^2$-critical, focusing NLS with a harmonic potential and a rotation term. Under a suitable spectral condition we prove that there holds the "$\log$-$\log$ law" when the initial data is slightly above the ground state. We also construct minimal mass blowup solutions near the ground state level with distinct blowup rates.
In this paper, we are concerned with solutions to the Cauchy problem for Chern-Simons-Schrödinger equations in the mass supercritical case. First we establish the local well-posedness of solutions in the radial space. Then we consider scattering versus blow-up dichotomy for radial data below the ground state threshold.
We construct a finite time blow up solution for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the power nonlinearity whose coefficient is complex number. We generalize the range of both the power and the complex coefficient for the result of Cazenave, Martel and Zhao \cite{CMZ}. As a bonus, we may consider the space dimension $5$. We show a sequence of solutions closes to the blow up profile which is a blow up solution of ODE. We apply the Aubin-Lions lemma for the compactness argument for its convergence.
We consider the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with $L^{2}$-supercritical and $H^{1}$-subcritical power type nonlinearity. Duyckaerts and Roudenko and Campos, Farah, and Roudenko studied the global dynamics of the solutions with same mass and energy as that of the ground state. In these papers, finite variance is assumed to show the finite time blow-up. In the present paper, we remove the finite-variance assumption and prove a blow-up or grow-up result.
In this paper, we prove a universal upper bound on the blowup rate of a focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation with an angular momentum under a trapping harmonic potential, assuming that the initial data is radially symmetric in the weighted Sobolev space. The nonlinearity is in the mass supercritical and energy subcritical regime. Numerical simulations are also presented.
We give examples of small data blow-up for a three-component system of quadratic nonlinear Schrödinger equations in one space dimension. Our construction of the blowing-up solution is based on the Hopf-Cole transformation, which allows us to reduce the problem to getting suitable growth estimates for a solution to the transformed system. Amplification in the reduced system is shown to have a close connection with the mass resonance.
We consider the following nonlinear Schrödinger equation with double power nonlinearity \[ i\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}+Δu+|u|^{\frac{4}{N}}u+|u|^{p-1}u=0,\quad 1<p<1+\frac{4}{N} \] in $\mathbb{R}^N$. For $N=1,2,3$, Le Coz-Martel-Raphaël (2016) construct a minimal-mass blow-up solution. Moreover, the previous study derives blow-up rate of the blow-up solution. In this paper, we extend this result to the general dimension. Furthermore, we investigate the behaviour of the critical mass blow-up solution near the blow-up time.
We study, under the radial symmetry assumption, the solutions to the fractional Schrödinger equations of critical nonlinearity in $\mathbb R^{1+d}, d \geq 2$, with Lévy index ${2d}/({2d-1}) < \al < 2$. We firstly prove the linear profile decomposition and then apply it to investigate the properties of the blowup solutions of the nonlinear equations with mass-critical Hartree type nonlineartity.
The initial value problem for the homogeneous Schrödinger equation is investigated for radially symmetric initial data with slow decay rates and not too wild oscillations. Our global wellposedness results apply to initial data for which Strichartz estimates fail.
In this paper, we consider the mass-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation in one dimension. Ogawa--Tsutsumi [19] proved a blow-up result for negative energy solution by using a scaling argument for initial data. By the reason, the method cannot be used to an equation with a linear potential. So, we modify the proof and get that for the equation with the linear potential.
We consider the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation (INLS) in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $N \geq 1$, $$i \partial_t u + Δu + |x|^{-b} |u|^{p-1}u = 0,$$ with finite-variance initial data $u_0 \in H^1(\mathbb{R}^N)$. We extend the dichotomy between scattering and blow-up for solutions above the mass-energy threshold (and with arbitrarily large energy). We also show other two blow-up criteria, wich are valid in any mass-supercritical setting, given there is local well-posedness.
In this paper, we consider the energy critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a repulsive inverse square potential. In particular, we deal with radial initial data, whose energy is equal to the energy of static solution to the corresponding nonlinear Schrödinger equation without a potential. We investigate time behavior of the radial solutions with such initial data.
In the first part of this paper, we investigate the sharp threshold of blow-up and global existence for the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation with combined nonlinearities of mass-critical and mass-subcritical power-type. Especially, we find a sequence of initial data with mass approximating that of the ground state from above, the correspondng solution of which blows up. This result partially gives a positive answer to the open problem left by T.Tao, M. Visan and X. Zhang in \cite{TVZ}. After then, we obtain the lower blow-up rate and concentration rate for the blow-up solutions in the s…
In this article, we study the log-log blowup dynamics for the mass critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation on $\mathbb{R}^{2}$ under rough but structured random perturbations at $L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^2)$ regularity. In particular, by employing probabilistic methods, we provide a construction of a family of $L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^2)$ regularity solutions which do not lie in any $H^{s}(\mathbb{R}^2)$ for any $s>0$, and which blowup according to the log-log dynamics.
We consider the focusing fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ i\partial_t u - (-Δ)^s u = -|u|^αu, \quad (t,x) \in \mathbb{R}^+ \times \mathbb{R}^d, \] where $s \in (1/2,1)$ and $α>0$. By using localized virial estimates, we establish general blow-up criteria for non-radial solutions to the equation. As consequences, we obtain blow-up criteria in both $L^2$-critical and $L^2$-supercritical cases which extend the results of Boulenger-Himmelsbach-Lenzmann [{\it Blowup for fractional NLS}, J. Funct. Anal. 271 (2016), 2569--2603] for non-radial initial data.
We consider the focusing mass-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation and prove that blowup solutions to this equation with initial data in $H^s(\R^d)$, $s > s_0(d)$ and $d\geq 3$, concentrate at least the mass of the ground state at the blowup time. This extends recent work by J. Colliander, S. Raynor, C. Sulem, and J. D. Wright, \cite{crsw}, T. Hmidi and S. Keraani, \cite{hk}, and N. Tzirakis, \cite{tzirakis}, on the blowup of the two-dimensional and one-dimensional mass-critical focusing NLS below the energy space to all dimensions $d\ge 3$.
We consider the supercritical inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation (INLS) $$i\partial_t u+Δu+|x|^{-b}|u|^{2σ}u=0,$$ where $(2-b)/N<σ<(2-b)/(N-2)$ and $0<b<\min\{2,N\}$. We prove a Gagliardo-Nirenberg type estimate and use it to establish sufficient conditions for global existence and blow-up in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^N)$.
We consider the focusing quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation posed on a rotationally symmetric surface, typically the sphere $S^2$ or the two dimensional hyperbolic space $H^2$. We prove the existence and the stability of solutions blowing up on a suitable curve with the log log speed. The Euclidean case is handled in Raphaël (2006) and our result shows that the log log rate persists in other geometries with the assumption of a radial symmetry of the manifold.
In this paper we study dynamical properties of blowup solutions to the focusing intercritical (mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical) nonlinear fourth-order Schrödinger equation. We firstly establish the profile decomposition of bounded sequences in $\dot{H}^{γ_{\text{c}}} \cap \dot{H}^2$. We also prove a compactness lemma and a variational characterization of ground states related to the equation. As a result, we obtain the $\dot{H}^{γ_{\text{c}}}$-concentration of blowup solutions with bounded $\dot{H}^{γ_{\text{c}}}$-norm and the limiting profile of blowup solutions with critical $\dot{…
We consider the energy critical Schrödinger map problem with the 2-sphere target for equivariant initial data of homotopy index $k=1$. We show the existence of a codimension one set of smooth well localized initial data arbitrarily close to the ground state harmonic map in the energy critical norm, which generates finite time blow up solutions. We give a sharp description of the corresponding singularity formation which occurs by concentration of a universal bubble of energy.
The blowup is studied for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation $iu_{t}+Δu+ |u|^{p-1}u=0$ with $p$ is odd and $p\ge 1+\frac 4{N-2}$ (the energy-critical or energy-supercritical case). It is shown that the solution with negative energy $E(u_0)<0$ blows up in finite or infinite time. A new proof is also presented for the previous result in \cite{HoRo2}, in which a similar result but more general in a case of energy-subcritical was shown.
We study the Cauchy problem of the mass critical nonlinear Schrodinger equation with derivative with the 4pi mass. One has the global well-posedness in H^1 whenever "the mass is strictly less than 4pi" or whenever "the mass is equal to 4pi and the momentum is strictly less than zero". In this paper, by the concentration compact principle as originally done by Kenig-Merle, we obtain the limiting profile of blow up solutions with the critical 4pi mass.
In this work, we show the existence of ground state solutions for an $l$-component system of non-linear Schrödinger equations with quadratic-type growth interactions in the energy-critical case. They are obtained analyzing a critical Sobolev-type inequality and using the concentration-compactness method. As an application, we prove the existence of blow-up solutions of the system without the mass-resonance condition in dimension six (and five), when the initial data is radial.
We consider the Cauchy problem for linearly damped nonlinear Schrödinger equations \[ i\partial_t u + Δu + i a u= \pm |u|^αu, \quad (t,x) \in [0,\infty) \times \mathbb{R}^N, \] where $a>0$ and $α>0$. We prove the global existence and scattering for a sufficiently large damping parameter in the energy-critical case. We also prove the existence of finite time blow-up $H^1$ solutions to the focusing problem in the mass-critical and mass-supercritical cases.
This paper is devoted to the analysis of blow-up solutions for the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with combined power-type nonlinearities \[ i\partial_t u-(-Δ)^su+λ_1|u|^{2p_1}u+λ_2|u|^{2p_2}u=0, \] where $0<p_1<p_2<\frac{2s}{N-2s}$. Firstly, we obtain some sufficient conditions about existence of blow-up solutions, and then derive some sharp thresholds of blow-up and global existence by constructing some new estimates. Moreover, we find the sharp threshold mass of blow-up and global existence in the case $0<p_1<\frac{2s}{N}$ and $p_2=\frac{2s}{N}$. Finally, we investigate the dynam…
In this paper, we will consider the $L^2$-critical fractional Schrödinger equation $iu_t-|D|^βu+|u|^{2β}u=0$ with initial data $u_0\in H^{β/2}(\mathbb{R})$ and $β$ close to $2$. We will show that the solution blows up in finite time if the initial data has negative energy and slightly supercritical mass. We will also give a specific description for the blow-up dynamics. This is an extension of the work of F. Merle and P. Raphaël for $L^2$-critical Schrödinger equations but the nonlocal structure of this equation and the lack of some symmetries make the analysis more complicated, hence some new…
We study the stochastic Nonlinear Schrödinger system with multiplicative white noise in energy space $H^1$. Based on deterministic and stochastic Strichartz estimates, we prove the local well-posedness and uniqueness of mild solution. Then we prove the global well-posedness in the mass subcritical case and the defocusing case. For the mass subcritical case, we also investigate the global existence when the $L^2$ norm of initial value is small enough. In addition, we study the blow-up phenomenon and give a sharp criteria.
We construct radially symmetric self-similar blow-up profiles for the mass supercritical nonlinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_t u + Δu + |u|^{p-1}u=0$ on $\mathbf{R}^d$, close to the mass critical case and for any space dimension $d\ge 1$. These profiles bifurcate from the ground state solitary wave. The argument relies on the classical matched asymptotics method suggested in [Sulem, C.; Sulem, P.-L., The nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Self-focusing and wave collapse. Applied Mathematical Sciences, 139. Springer-Verlag, New York, 1999] which needs to be applied in a degenerate case due t…
In this paper, the well-posedness of Cauchy's problem of fractional Schrödinger equations with a power type nonlinearity on $n$-dimensional manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature is studied. Under suitable volume conditions, the local solution with initial data in $H^{[\frac{n}{2}]+1}$ will blow up in finite time no matter how small the initial data is, which follows from a new weight function and ODE inequalities. Moreover, the upper-bound of the lifespan can be estimated.
We consider the energy critical focusing NLS in R^3 and prove, for any $ν$ sufficiently small, the existence of radial finite energy solutions that as $t\to\infty$ behave as a sum of a dynamically rescaled ground state plus a radiation, the scaling law being of the form $t^ν$.
We consider $L^{2}$-supercritical and $H^{1}$-subcritical focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equations. We introduce a subset $PW$ of $H^{1}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$ for $d\ge 1$, and investigate behavior of the solutions with initial data in this set. For this end, we divide $PW$ into two disjoint components $PW_{+}$ and $PW_{-}$. Then, it turns out that any solution starting from a datum in $PW_{+}$ behaves asymptotically free, and solution starting from a datum in $PW_{-}$ blows up or grows up, from which we find that the ground state has two unstable directions. We also investigate some properties of …
We consider a nonlinear Schrödinger equation with double power nonlinearity, where one power is focusing and mass critical and the other mass sub-critical. Classical variational arguments ensure that initial data with mass less than the mass of the ground state of the mass critical problem lead to global in time solutions. We are interested by the threshold dynamic and in particular by the existence of finite time blow up minimal solutions. For the mass critical problem, such an object exists thanks to the explicit conformal symmetry, and is in fact unique. For the focusing double power nonlin…
We consider the minimizing problem for the energy functional with prescribed mass constraint related to the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with periodic potentials. Using the concentration-compactness principle, we show a complete classification for the existence and non-existence of minimizers for the problem. In the mass-critical case, under a suitable assumption of the potential, we give a detailed description of blow-up behavior of minimizers once the mass tends to a critical value.
We consider the quadratic nonlinear Schrödinger system \begin{align*} \begin{cases} i\partial_t u +Δu =v \overline{u},\\ i\partial_t v +κΔv =u^2, \end{cases} \text{ on } I \times \mathbb{R}^d, \end{align*} where $1\leq d \leq 6$ and $κ>0$. In the lower dimensional case $d=1,2,3$, it is known that the $H^1$-solution is global in time. On the other hand, there are finite time blow-up solutions when $d=4,5,6$ and $κ=1/2$. The condition of $κ=1/2$ is called mass-resonance. In this paper, we prove finite time blow-up under radially symmetric assumption when $d=5,6$ and $κ\neq 1/2$ and we show blow-…
We establish blow-up results for systems of NLS equations with quadratic interaction in anisotropic spaces. We precisely show finite time blow-up or grow-up for cylindrical symmetric solutions. With our construction, we moreover prove some polynomial lower bounds on the kinetic energy of global solutions in the mass-critical case, which in turn implies grow-up along any diverging time sequence. Our analysis extends to general NLS systems with quadratic interactions, and it also provides improvements of known results in the radial case.
We consider the nonlinear Schrödinger equation \[ u_t = i Δu + | u |^αu \quad \mbox{on ${\mathbb R}^N $, $α>0$,} \] for $H^1$-subcritical or critical nonlinearities: $(N-2) α\le 4$. Under the additional technical assumptions $α\geq 2$ (and thus $N\leq 4$), we construct $H^1$ solutions that blow up in finite time with explicit blow-up profiles and blow-up rates. In particular, blowup can occur at any given finite set of points of ${\mathbb R}^N$. The construction involves explicit functions $U$, solutions of the ordinary differential equation $U_t=|U|^αU$. In the simplest case, $U(t,x)=(|x|^k-α…
This paper is devoted to the analysis of blow-up solutions for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with combined power-type nonlinearities \[ iu_{t}+Δu=λ_1|u|^{p_1}u+λ_2|u|^{p_2}u. \] When $p_1=\frac{4}{N}$ and $0<p_2<\frac{4}{N}$, we prove the existence of blow-up solutions and find the sharp threshold mass of blow-up and global existence for this equation. This is a complement to the result of Tao et al. (Comm. Partial Differential Equations 32: 1281-1343, 2007). Moreover, we investigate the dynamical properties of blow-up solutions, including $L^2$-concentration, blow-up rates and limiting p…
We consider the following nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a Hartree nonlinearity: \[ i\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}+Δu+|u|^{\frac{4}{N}}u\pm\left(\frac{1}{|x|^{2σ}}\star|u|^2\right)u=0 \] in $\mathbb{R}^N$. We are interested in the existence and behaviour of minimal mass blow-up solutions. Previous studies have shown the existence of minimal mass blow-up solutions with an inverse power potential and investigated the behaviour of the solution. In this paper, we investigate Hartree nonlinearity, which is a nonlinear term similar to the inverse power-type potential in terms of scaling.
We consider the energy supercritical defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_tu+Δu-u|u|^{p-1}=0$ in dimension $d\ge 5$. In a suitable range of energy supercritical parameters $(d,p)$, we prove the existence of $\mathcal C^\infty$ well localized spherically symmetric initial data such that the corresponding unique strong solution blows up in finite time. Unlike other known blow up mechanisms, the singularity formation does not occur by concentration of a soliton or through a self similar solution, which are unknown in the defocusing case, but via a front mechanism. Blow up is achie…
We consider the following nonlinear Schrödinger equation with an inverse potential: \[ i\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}+Δu+|u|^{\frac{4}{N}}u\pm\frac{1}{|x|^{2σ}}\log|x|u=0 \] in $\mathbb{R}^N$. From the classical argument, the solution with subcritical mass ($\|u\|_2<\|Q\|_2$) is global and bounded in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^N)$. Here, $Q$ is the ground state of the mass-critical problem. Therefore, we are interested in the existence and behaviour of blow-up solutions for the threshold ($\left\|u_0\right\|_2=\left\|Q\right\|_2$).

We consider the 1D nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with focusing \emph{point nonlinearity}, $$i\partial_tψ+ \partial_x^2ψ+ δ|ψ|^{p-1}ψ= 0$$ where $δ=δ(x)$ is the delta function supported at the origin. In the $L^2$ supercritical setting $p>3$, we construct self-similar blow-up solutions belonging to the energy space $L_x^\infty \cap \dot H_x^1$. This is reduced to finding outgoing solutions of a certain stationary profile equation. All outgoing solutions to the profile equation are obtained by using parabolic Weber functions and solving the jump condition at $x=0$ imposed by the $δ$ term.…
In this paper, we consider the following equation: \[ i\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}+Δu+g(x)|u|^{\frac{4}{N}}u-Wu=0. \] We construct a critical-mass solution that blows up at a finite time and describe the behaviour of the solution in the neighbourhood of the blow-up time. Banica-Carles-Duyckaertz (2011) has shown the existence of a critical-mass blow-up solution under the assumptions that $N\leq 2$, that $g$ and $W$ are sufficiently smooth and that each derivative of these is bounded. In this paper, we show the existence of a critical-mass blow-up solution under weaker assumptions regarding s…
