We describe the birational correspondences, induced by the Fourier-Mukai functor, between moduli spaces of semistable sheaves on elliptic surfaces with sections, using the notion of $P$-stability in the derived category. We give explicit conditions to determine whether these correspondences are isomorphisms. This is indeed not true in general and we describe the cases where the birational maps are Mukai flops. Moreover, this construction provides examples of new compactifications of the moduli spaces of vector bundles via sheaves with torsion and via complexes. We finally get for any fixed dimension an isomorphism between the Picard groups of the moduli spaces.
We study Fourier--Mukai partners of elliptic ruled surfaces. We also describe the autoequivalence group of the derived categories of ruled surfaces with an elliptic fibration, by using \cite{Ue15}.
Let $X$ and $Y$ be smooth projective varieties over $\C$. We say that $X$ and $Y$ are \emph{D-equivalent} (or, $X$ is a \emph{Fourier--Mukai partner} of $Y$) if their derived categories of bounded complexes of coherent sheaves are equivalent as triangulated categories. The aim of this short note is to find an example of mutually D-equivalent but not isomorphic relatively minimal elliptic surfaces.
We systematically develop Bridgeland's and Bridgeland-Maciocia's techniques for studying elliptic fibrations, and identify criteria that ensure 2-term complexes are mapped to torsion-free sheaves under a Fourier-Mukai transform. As an application, we construct an open immersion from a moduli of stable complexes to a moduli of Gieseker stable sheaves on elliptic threefolds. As another application, we give various 1-1 correspondences between fiberwise semistable torsion-free sheaves and codimension-1 sheaves on Weierstrass surfaces.
On a Weierstraß elliptic surface $X$, we define a `limit' of Bridgeland stability conditions, denoted $Z^l$-stability, by varying the polarisation in the definition of Bridgeland stability along a curve in the ample cone of $X$. We show that a slope stable torsion-free sheaf of positive (twisted) degree or a slope stable locally free sheaf is taken by a Fourier-Mukai transform on $D^b(X)$ to a $Z^l$-stable object, while a $Z^l$-semistable object of nonzero fiber degree can be modified so that its inverse Fourier-Mukai transform is a slope semistable torsion-free sheaf.
On the product elliptic threefold $X = C \times S$ where $C$ is an elliptic curve and $S$ is a K3 surface of Picard rank 1, we define a notion of limit tilt stability, which satisfies the Harder-Narasimhan property. We show that under the Fourier-Mukai transform $Φ$ on $D^b(X)$ induced by the classical Fourier-Mukai transform on $D^b(C)$, a slope stable torsion-free sheaf satisfying a vanishing condition in codimension 2 (e.g. a reflexive sheaf) is taken to a limit tilt stable object. We also show that a limit tilt semistable object on $X$ is taken by $Φ$ to a slope semistable sheaf, up to mod…
On a Weierstraß elliptic surface $X$, we define a `limit' of Bridgeland stability conditions, denoted as $Z^l$-stability, by moving the polarisation towards the fiber direction in the ample cone while keeping the volume of the polarisation fixed. We describe conditions under which a slope stable torsion-free sheaf is taken by a Fourier-Mukai transform to a $Z^l$-stable object, and describe a modification upon which a $Z^l$-semistable object is taken by the inverse Fourier-Mukai transform to a slope semistable torsion-free sheaf. We also study wall-crossing for Bridgeland stability, and show th…
We consider elliptic fibrations with arbitrary base dimensions, and generalise previous work by the second author. In particular, we check universal closedness for the moduli of semistable objects with respect to a polynomial stability that reduces to PT-stability on threefolds. We also show openness of this polynomial stability. On the other hand, we write down criteria under which certain 2-term polynomial semistable complexes are mapped to torsion-free semistable sheaves under a Fourier-Mukai transform. As an application, we construct an open immersion from a moduli of complexes to a moduli…
We focus on a class of Weierstrass elliptic threefolds that allows the base of the fibration to be a Fano surface or a numerically $K$-trivial surface. We define the notion of limit tilt stability, and show that the Fourier-Mukai transform of a slope stable torsion-free sheaf satisfying a vanishing condition in codimension 2 (e.g. a reflexive sheaf) is a limit tilt stable object. We also show that the inverse Fourier-Mukai transform of a limit tilt semistable object of nonzero fiber degree is a slope semistable torsion-free sheaf, up to modification in codimension 2.
We shall study stability conditions and Fourier-Mukai transforms on an elliptic surface. In particular we shall explain duality of elliptic surfaces by Fourier-Mukai transforms.
We compute a large number of moduli spaces of stable bundles on a general algebraic elliptic surface using a new class of Fourier-Mukai type transforms.
Given a non-singular variety with a K3 fibration f : X --> S we construct dual fibrations Y --> S by replacing each fibre X_s of f by a two-dimensional moduli space of stable sheaves on X_s. In certain cases we prove that the resulting scheme Y is a non-singular variety and construct an equivalence of derived categories of coherent sheaves Φ: D(Y) --> D(X). Our methods also apply to elliptic and abelian surface fibrations. As an application we show how the equivalences Φidentify certain moduli spaces of stable bundles on elliptic threefolds with Hilbert schemes of curves.
We determine all the Fourier-Mukai transforms for coherent systems consisting of a vector bundle over an elliptic curve and a subspace of its global sections, showing that these transforms are indexed by the positive integers. We prove that the natural stability condition for coherent systems, which depends on a parameter, is preserved by these transforms for small and large values of the parameter. By means of the Fourier-Mukai transforms we prove that certain moduli spaces of coherent systems corresponding to small and large values of the parameter are isomorphic. Using these results we draw…
This paper studies the action of the Fourier-Mukai transform on moduli spaces of vertical torsion sheaves on elliptic Calabi-Yau threefolds in Weierstrass form. Moduli stacks of semistable one dimensional sheaves on such threefolds are identified with open and closed substacksof moduli stacks of vertical semistable two dimensional sheaves on their Fourier-Mukai duals. In particular, this yields explicit conjectural results for Donaldson-Thomas invariants of vertical two dimensional sheaves on K3-fibered elliptic Calabi-Yau threefolds.
In this paper, we study holomorphic rank-2 vector bundles on non-K\" ahler elliptic surfaces. Our main tool for analysing these bundles is of course the spectral cover. However, given the non-Kähler condition, the elliptic surfaces we are considering do not have sections and gerbes naturally arise in this context. The spectral construction presented in this paper is a modification of the Fourier-Mukai transform for elliptic fibrations without a section. After examining some of the properties of this Fourier-Mukai transform, we give a complete classification of vector bundles on these surfaces.
For a trivial elliptic fibration $X=C \times S$ with $C$ an elliptic curve and $S$ a projective K3 surface of Picard rank $1$, we study how various notions of stability behave under the Fourier-Mukai autoequivalence $Φ$ on $D^b(X)$, where $Φ$ is induced by the classical Fourier-Mukai autoequivalence on $D^b(C)$. We show that, under some restrictions on Chern classes, Gieseker semistability on coherent sheaves is preserved under $Φ$ when the polarisation is `fiber-like'. Moreover, for more general choices of Chern classes, Gieseker semistability under a `fiber-like' polarisation corresponds to …
The objective of the paper is to prove that, as it happens for smooth elliptic curves, any Fourier-Mukai partner of a projective reduced Gorenstein curve of genus one and trivial dualising sheaf, is isomorphic to itself.
We study perverse coherent sheaves on the resolution of rational double points. As examples, we consider rational double points on 2-dimensional moduli spaces of stable sheaves on K3 and elliptic surfaces. Then we show that perverse coherent sheaves appears in the theory of Fourier-Mukai transforms. As an application, we generalize the Fourier-Mukai duality for K3 surfaces to our situation.
In this paper, we consider the preservation of stability by using the notion of Twisted stability. As applications, (1) we show that moduli spaces of vector bundles on K3 and abelian surfaces are irreducible, (2) we compute Hodge polynomials of some moduli spaces of vector bundles on Enriques surfaces and on elliptic surfaces with a section.
We study relative Fourier-Mukai transforms on genus one fibrations with section, allowing explicitly the total space of the fibration to be singular and non-projective. Grothendieck duality is used to prove a skew-commutativity relation between this equivalence of categories and certain duality functors. We use our results to explicitly construct examples of semi-stable sheaves on degenerating families of elliptic curves.
We define a Fourier-Mukai transform for a triple consisting of two holomorphic vector bundles over an elliptic curve and a homomorphism between them. We prove that in some cases the transform preserves the natural stability condition for a triple. We also define a Nahm transform for solutions to natural gauge-theoretic equations on a triple -- vortices -- and explore some of its basic properties. Our approach combines direct methods with dimensional reduction techniques, relating triples over a curve with vector bundles over the product of the curve with the complex projective line.
On a Weierstrass elliptic surface, we describe the action of the relative Fourier-Mukai transform on the geometric chamber of $\mathrm{Stab}(X)$, and in the K3 case we also study the action on one of its boundary components. Using new estimates for the Gieseker chamber we prove that Gieseker stability for polarizations on certain Friedman chamber is preserved by the derived dual of the relative Fourier-Mukai transform. As an application of our description of the action, we also prove projectivity for some moduli spaces of Bridgeland semistable objects.
We study the Fourier--Mukai numbers of rational elliptic surfaces. As its application, we give an example of a pair of minimal 3-folds with Kodaira dimensions 1, $h^1(\mc O)=h^2(\mc O)=0$ such that they are mutually derived equivalent, deformation equivalent, but not birationally equivalent. It also supplies a counterexample of the birational Torelli problem.
Fibrewise T-duality (Fourier-Mukai transform) for D-branes on an elliptic Calabi-Yau three-fold $X$ is seen to have an expected adiabatic form for its induced cohomology operation only when an appropriately twisted operation resp. twisted charge is defined. Some differences with the case of $K3$ as well as connections with the spectral cover construction for bundles on $X$ are pointed out. In the context of mirror symmetry Kontsevich's association of line bundle twists (resp. a certain 'diagonal' operation) with monodromies (esp. the conifold monodromy) is made explicit and checked for two exa…
We characterize the subscheme of the moduli space of torsion-free sheaves on an elliptic surface which are stable of relative degree zeero (with respect to a polarization of type aH+bf, H being the section and f the elliptic fibre) which is isomorphic, via the relative Fourier-Mukai transform, with the relative compactified Simpson Jacobian of the family of those curves D in the surface which are flat over the base of the elliptic fibration. This generalizes and completes earlier constructions due to Friedman, Morgan and Witten. We also study the relative moduli scheme of sheaves whose restric…
We study U(r) instantons on elliptic surfaces with a section and show that they are in one-one correspondence with spectral data consisting of a curve in the dual elliptic surface and a line bundle on that curve. We use relative Fourier-Mukai transforms to analyse their properties and, in the case of the K3 and abelian surfaces, we show that the moduli space of instantons has a natural Lagrangian fibration with respect to the canonical complex symplectic structure.
According to Mukai, any prime Fano threefold X of genus 7 is a linear section of the spinor tenfold in the projectivized half-spinor space of Spin(10). It is proven that the moduli space of stable rank-2 vector bundles with Chern classes c_1=1,c_2=5 on a generic X is isomorphic to the curve of genus 7 obtained by taking an orthogonal linear section of the spinor tenfold. This is an inverse of Mukai's result on the isomorphism of a non-abelian Brill--Noether locus on a curve of genus 7 to a Fano threefold of genus 7. An explicit geometric construction of both isomorphisms and a similar result f…
Using lattice theory, we establish a one-to-one correspondence between the set of Fourier-Mukai partners of a projective $K3$ surface and the set of 0-dimensional standard cusps of its Kahler moduli. We also study the relation between twisted Fourier-Mukai partners and general 0-dimensional cusps, and the relation between Fourier-Mukai partners with elliptic fibrations and certain 1-dimensional cusps.
In this paper we give a survey about the classification of vector bundles and torsion free sheaves on degenerations of elliptic curves. Coherent sheaves on singular curves of arithmetic genus one can be studied using the technique of matrix problems or via Fourier-Mukai transforms, both methods are discussed here. Moreover, we include new proofs of some classical results about vector bundles on elliptic curves.
We show that fiberwise stable vector bundles are preserved by relative Fourier-Mukai transforms between elliptic threefolds with relative Picard number one. Using these bundles we define new invariants of elliptic fibrations, and we relate the invariants of a space with those of a relative moduli space of stable sheaves on it. As a byproduct, we calculate the intersection form of a certain new example of an elliptic Calabi-Yau threefold.
We use a relative Fourier-Mukai transform on elliptic K3 surfaces $X$ to describe mirror symmetry. The action of this Fourier-Mukai transform on the cohomology ring of $X$ reproduces relative T-duality and provides an infinitesimal isometry of the moduli space of algebraic structures on $X$ which, in view of the triviality of the quantum cohomology of K3 surfaces, can be interpreted as mirror symmetry.
In this paper we consider moduli spaces of coherent systems on an elliptic curve. We compute their Hodge polynomials and determine their birational types in some cases. Moreover we prove that certain moduli spaces of coherent systems are isomorphic. This last result uses the Fourier-Mukai transform of coherent systems introduced by Hernández Ruiperez and Tejero Prieto.
We give an introductory review of Fourier-Mukai transforms and their application to various aspects of moduli problems, string theory and mirror symmetry. We develop the necessary mathematical background for Fourier-Mukai transforms such as aspects of derived categories and integral functors as well as their relative version which becomes important for making precise the notion of fiberwise T-duality on elliptic Calabi-Yau threefolds. We discuss various applications of the Fourier-Mukai transform to D-branes on Calabi-Yau manifolds as well as homological mirror symmetry and the construction of…
We extend to singular schemes with Gorenstein singularities or fibered in schemes of that kind Bondal and Orlov's criterion for an integral functor to be fully faithful. We also contemplate a criterion for equivalence. We offer a proof that is new even if we restrict to the smooth case. In addition, we prove that for locally projective Gorenstein morphisms, a relative integral functor is fully faithful if and only if its restriction to each fibre also is it. These results imply the invertibility of the usual relative Fourier-Mukai transform for an elliptic fibration as a direct corollary.
We consider a relative Fourier-Mukai transform defined on elliptic fibrations over an arbitrary normal base scheme. This is used to construct relative Atiyah sheaves and generalize Atiyah's and Tu's results about semistable sheaves over elliptic curves to the case of elliptic fibrations. Moreover we show that this transform preserves relative (semi)stability of sheaves of positive relative degree.
Assuming the standard framework of mirror symmetry, a conjecture is formulated describing how the diffeomorphism group of a Calabi-Yau manifold Y should act by families of Fourier-Mukai transforms over the complex moduli space of the mirror X. The conjecture generalizes a proposal of Kontsevich relating monodromy transformations and self-equivalences. Supporting evidence is given in the case of elliptic curves, lattice-polarized K3 surfaces and Calabi-Yau threefolds. A relation to the global Torelli problem is discussed.
We explicitly construct Brill--Noether general $K3$ surfaces of genus $4,6$ and $8$ having the maximal number of elliptic pencils of degrees $3, 4$ and $5$, respectively, and study their moduli spaces and moduli maps to the moduli space of curves. As an application we prove the existence of Brill--Noether general $K3$ surfaces of genus $4$ and $6$ without stable Lazarsfeld--Mukai bundles of minimal $c_2$.
Fibrewise T-duality (Fourier-Mukai transform) for D-branes on an elliptic Calabi-Yau $X$ is shown to require naturally an appropriate twisting of the operation respectively a twisted charge. The fibrewise T-duality is furthermore expressed through known monodromies in the context of Kontsevich's interpretation of mirror symmetry.
For $X$ a smooth quasi-projective variety and $X^{[n]}$ its associated Hilbert scheme of $n$ points, we study two canonical Fourier--Mukai transforms $D(X)\to D(X^{[n]})$, the one along the structure sheaf and the one along the ideal sheaf of the universal family. For $\dim X\ge 2$, we prove that both functors admit a left-inverse. This means in particular that both functors are faithful and injective on isomorphism classes of objects. Using another method, we also show in the case of an elliptic curve that the Fourier--Mukai transform along the structure sheaf of the universal family is faith…
In this note we describe a method to calculate the action of a particular Fourier-Mukai transformation on a basis of brane charges on elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds with and without a section. The Fourier-Mukai kernel is the ideal sheaf of the relative diagonal and for fibrations that admit a section this is essentially the Poincaré sheaf. We find that in this case it induces an action of the modular group on the charges of 2-branes.
For a smooth cubic fourfold Y, we study the moduli space M of semistable objects of Mukai vector $2λ_1+2λ_2$ in the Kuznetsov component of Y. We show that with a certain choice of stability conditions, M admits a symplectic resolution $\tilde M$, which is a smooth projective hyperkähler manifold, deformation equivalent to the 10-dimensional examples constructed by O'Grady. As applications, we show that a birational model of $\tilde M$ provides a hyperkähler compactification of the twisted family of intermediate Jacobians associated to Y. This generalizes the previous result of Voisin arXiv:161…
In this paper we describe a four dimensional family of special rational elliptic surfaces admitting an involution with isolated fixed points. For each surface in this family we calculate explicitly the action of a spectral version of the involution (namely of its Fourier-Mukai conjugate) on global line bundles and on spectral data. The calculation is carried out both on the level of cohomology and in the derived category. We find that the spectral involution behaves like a fairly simple affine transformation away from the union of those fiber components which do not intersect the zero section.…
We construct stable sheaves over K3 fibrations using a relative Fourier-Mukai transform which describes the sheaves in terms of spectral data similar to the construction for elliptic fibrations. On K3 fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds we show that the Fourier-Mukai transform induces an embedding ion of the relative Jacobian of spectral line bundles on spectral covers into the moduli space of sheaves of given invariants. This makes the moduli space of spectral sheaves to a generic torus fibration over the moduli space of curves of given arithmetic genus on the Calabi-Yau manifold.
We give examples over arbitrary fields of rings of invariants that are not finitely generated. The group involved can be as small as three copies of the additive group, as in Mukai's examples over the complex numbers. The failure of finite generation comes from certain elliptic fibrations or abelian surface fibrations having positive Mordell-Weil rank. Our work suggests a generalization of the Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture from Calabi-Yau varieties to klt Calabi-Yau pairs. We prove the conjecture in dimension 2 in the case of minimal rational elliptic surfaces.
According to Mukai, any prime Fano threefold X of genus 7 is a linear section of the spinor tenfold in the projectivized half-spinor space of Spin(10). The orthogonal linear section of the spinor tenfold is a canonical genus-7 curve G, and the intermediate Jacobian J(X) is isomorphic to the Jacobian of G. It is proven that, for a generic X, the Abel-Jacobi map of the family of elliptic sextics on X factors through the moduli space of rank-2 vector bundles with c_1=-K_X and deg c_2=6 and that the latter is birational to the singular locus of the theta divisor of J(X).
We study the trigonometry of non-Euclidean tetrahedra using tools from algebraic geometry. We establish a bijection between non-Euclidean tetrahedra and certain rational elliptic surfaces. We interpret the edge lengths and the dihedral angles of a tetrahedron as values of period maps for the corresponding surface. As a corollary we show that the cross-ratio of the exponents of the solid angles of a tetrahedron is equal to the cross-ratio of the exponents of the perimeters of its faces. The Regge symmetries of a tetrahedron are related to the action of the Weyl group $W(D_6)$ on the Picard latt…
This thesis establishes a geometric approach to the de Rham realization of the polylogarithm. As a central result we construct the logarithm sheaves of rational abelian schemes in terms of the birigidified Poincaré bundle with universal integrable connection on the product of the abelian scheme and the universal vectorial extension of its dual. This is achieved essentially by restricting the mentioned data of the Poincaré bundle along the infinitesimal neighborhoods of the zero section of the universal extension. We also clarify how these constructions naturally express within the language of …
Classical (Euclidean) Laguerre geometry studies oriented hyperplanes, oriented hyperspheres, and their oriented contact in Euclidean space. We describe how this can be generalized to arbitrary Cayley-Klein spaces, in particular hyperbolic and elliptic space, and study the corresponding groups of Laguerre transformations. We give an introduction to Lie geometry and describe how these Laguerre geometries can be obtained as subgeometries. As an application of two-dimensional Lie and Laguerre geometry we study the properties of incircular nets.
