We consider linear and quadratic integrals of motion for general variable quadratic Hamiltonians. Fundamental relations between the eigenvalue problem for linear dynamical invariants and solutions of the corresponding Cauchy initial value problems for the time-dependent Schroedinger equation are emphasized. An eigenfunction expansionof the solution of the initial value problem is also found. A nonlinear superposition principle for the generalized Ermakov systems is established as a result of decomposition of the general quadratic invariant in terms of the linear ones.
A theory of transformation is presented for the diagonalization of a Hamiltonian that is quadratic in creation and annihilation operators or in coordinates and momenta. It is the systemization and theorization of Dirac and Bogoliubov-Valatin transformations, and thus provides us an operational procedure to answer, in a direct manner, the questions as to whether a quadratic Hamiltonian is diagonalizable, whether the diagonalization is unique, and how the transformation can be constructed if the diagonalization exists. The underlying idea is to consider the dynamic matrix. Each quadratic Hamilto…
Time dependent quadratic Hamiltonians are well known as well in classical mechanics and in quantum mechanics. In particular for them the correspondance between classical and quantum mechanics is exact. But explicit formulas are non trivial (like the Mehler formula). Moreover, a good knowlege of quadratic Hamiltonians is very useful in the study of more general quantum Hamiltonians and associated Schrödinger equations in the semiclassical regime. Our goal here is to give our own presentation of this important subject. We put emphasis on computations with Gaussian coherent states. Our main motiv…
The Cauchy problem for the Gross--Pitaevsky equation with quadratic nonlocal nonlinearity is reduced to a similar problem for the correspondent linear equation. The relation between symmetry operators of the linear and nonlinear Gross--Pitaevsky equations is considered.
Different constructions for Hilbert state space for constrained systems are investigated. Properties of Gaussian states analogous to quantum mechanical Gaussian wave functions are studied. Their evolution for quadratic Hamiltonian case are discussed. A notion of Maslov complex germ is introduced for systems with linear constraints.
We develop a Lie algebraic approach to systematically calculate the evolution operator of the generalized two-dimensional quadratic Hamiltonian with time-dependent coefficients. Although the development of the Lie algebraic approach presented here is mainly motivated by the two-dimensional quadratic Hamiltonian, it may be applied to investigate the evolution operators of any Hamiltonian having a dynamical algebra with a large number of elements. We illustrate the method by finding the propagator and the Heisenberg picture position and momentum operators for a two-dimensional charge subject to …
We discuss self-adjoint operators given formally by expressions quadratic in bosonic creation and annihilation operators. We give conditions when they can be defined as self-adjoint operators, possibly after an infinite renormalization. We also discuss explicit formulas for their infimum. Our main motivation comes from Local Quantum Field Theory, which furnishes interesting examples of bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians that require an infinite renormalization.
We study solutions to the Cauchy problem for the linear and nonlinear Schroedinger equation with a quadratic Hamiltonian depending on time. For the linear case the evolution operator can be expressed as an integral operator with the explicit formula for the kernel. As a consequence, conditions for local and global in time Strichartz estimates can be established. For the nonlinear case we show local well-posedness. As a particular case we obtain well-posedness for the damped harmonic nonlinear Schroedinger equation.
In this work we study the persistence in time of superoscillations for the Schrödinger equation with quadratic time-dependent Hamiltonians. We have solved explicitly the Cauchy initial value problem with three different kind of oscillatory initial data. In order to prove the persistence of superoscillations we have defined explicitly an operator in terms of solutions of a Riccati system associated with the variable coefficients of the Hamiltonian. The operator is defined on a space of entire functions. Particular examples include Caldirola-Kanai and degenerate parametric harmonic oscillator Ha…
We construct the integrals of motion for several models of the quantum damped oscillators in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics in a framework of a general approach to the time-dependent Schroedinger equation with variable quadratic Hamiltonians. An extension of Lewis-Riesenfeld dynamical invariant is given. The time-evolution of the expectation values of the energy related positive operators is determined for the oscillators under consideration. A proof of uniqueness of the corresponding Cauchy initial value problem is discussed as an application.
It is natural to investigate if the quantization of an integrable or superintegrable classical Hamiltonian systems is still integrable or superintegrable. We study here this problem in the case of natural Hamiltonians with constants of motion quadratic in the momenta. The procedure of quantization here considered, transforms the Hamiltonian into the Laplace-Beltrami operator plus a scalar potential. In order to transform the constants of motion into symmetry operators of the quantum Hamiltonian, additional scalar potentials, known as quantum corrections, must be introduced, depending on the Ri…
We discuss a procedure to determine finite sets $\mathcal{M}$ within the commutant of an algebraic Hamiltonian in the enveloping algebra of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ such that their generators define a quadratic algebra. Although independent from any realization of Lie algebras by differential operators, the method is partially based on an analytical approach, and uses the coadjoint representation of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. The procedure, valid for non-semisimple algebras, is tested for the centrally extended Schrödinger algebras $\widehat{S}(n)$ for various different choices of alg…
Linear Poisson brackets on e(3) typical of rigid body dynamics are considered. All quadratic Hamiltonians of Kowalevski type having additional first integral of fourth degree are found. Quantum analogs of these Hamiltonians are listed.
The purpose of this article is to compute the normal form of a class of general quadratic Hamiltonian systems that generalizes naturally Euler's equations from the free rigid body dynamics.
We investigate a special class of quadratic Hamiltonians on so(4) and so(3,1) and describe Hamiltonians that have additional polynomial integrals. One of the main results is a new integrable case with an integral of sixth degree.
We give an outlook, how to realize the ideas of complex scaling from Grothaus, Vogel and Streit to phase space path integrals in the framework of White Noise Analysis. The idea of this scaling method goes back to Doss. Therefore we extend the concept complex scaling to scaling with suitable bounded operators.
We point out that when a quadratic type Liénard equation is suitably interpreted shows branching due to the double valuedness of the governing Hamiltonian. Under certain approximation of the guiding coupling constant we derive its quantum counterpart that is guided by a momentum-dependent mass function.
Quantum systems with constraints are often considered in modern theoretical physcics. All realistic field models based on the idea of gauge symmetry are of this type. A partial case of constraints being linear in coordinate and momenta operators is very important. Namely, when one applies semiclassical methods to an arbitrary constrained system, the constraints in "general position case" become linear. In this paper, different mathematicals constructions for the Hilbert space space for the constraint system are discussed. Properties of Gaussian and quasi-Gaussian wave functions for these syste…
We provide general conditions for which bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians on Fock spaces can be diagonalized by Bogoliubov transformations. Our results cover the case when quantum systems have infinite degrees of freedom and the associated one-body kinetic and paring operators are unbounded. Our sufficient conditions are optimal in the sense that they become necessary when the relevant one-body operators commute.
We discuss the one-dimensional, general quadratic Hamiltonian and the bi-dimensional charged particle in time-dependent electromagnetic fields through the Lie algebraic approach. Such method consists in finding a set of generators that form a closed Lie algebra in terms of which it is possible to express the Hamiltonian and the therefore the evolution operator. The evolution operator is then the starting point to obtain the propagator as well as the explicit form of the Heisenberg picture position and momentum operators. First, the set of generators forming a closed Lie algebra is identified f…
The features of the paper are these: 1) we discuss {\bf especially} quadratic (alias bilinear) Bose-Hamiltonians, the related Bogoliubov transformations and {\bf especially} quasi-free-like (alias coherent or Fock-like) states 2) we discuss {\bf any} quadratic Bose-Hamiltonians and Bogoliubov transformations, whether diagonalizable or not, whether proper or improper, and {\bf arbitrary} quasi-free-like states, whether regular or non-regular they are 3) we associate notions and terms of the CCRs theory {CCRs = Canonical Commutation Relations} with notions and terms of the indefinite inner produ…
Our main goal in this paper is to prove existence (and uniqueness) of the quantum propagator for time dependent quantum Hamiltonians $\hat H(t)$ when this Hamiltonian is perturbed with a quadratic white noise $\dotβ\hat K$. $β$ is a continuous function in time $t$, $\dot β$ its time derivative and $K$ is a quadratic Hamiltonian. $\hat K$ is the Weyl quantization of $K$. For time dependent quadratic Hamiltonians $H(t)$ we recover, under less restrictive assumptions, the results obtained in \cite{bofu, du}.In our approach we use an exact Hermann Kluk formula \cite{ro2} to deduce a Strichartz est…
The superintegrability of four Hamiltonians $\tilde{H_r} = λ\, H_r$, $r=a,b,c,d$, where $H_r$ are known Hamiltonians and $λ$ is a certain function defined on the configuration space and depending of a parameter $κ$, is studied. The new Hamiltonians, and the associated constants of motion $J_{ri}$, $i=1,2,3$, are continous functions of the parameter $κ$. The first part is concerned with separability and quadratic superintegrability (the integrals of motion are quadratic in the momenta) and the second part is devoted to the existence of higher-order superintegrability. The results obtained in th…
We introduce the quadratic Fermi algebra, which is a Lie algebra, and show that the vacuum distributions of the associated Hamiltonians define the fermionic Meixner probability distributions. In order to emphasize the difference with the Bose case, we apply a modification of the method used in the above calculation to obtain a simple and straightforward classification of the 1--dimensional Meixner laws in terms of homogeneous quadratic expressions in the Bose creation and annihilation operators. There is a huge literature of the Meixner laws but this, purely quantum probabilistic, derivation s…
A class of non-Hermitian quadratic su(2) Hamiltonians having an anti-linear symmetry is constructed. This is achieved by analysing the possible symmetries of such systems in terms of automorphisms of the algebra. In fact, different realisations for this type of symmetry are obtained, including the natural occurrence of charge conjugation together with parity and time reversal. Once specified the underlying anti-linear symmetry of the Hamiltonian, the former, if unbroken, leads to a purely real spectrum and the latter can be mapped to a Hermitian counterpart by, amongst other possibilities, a s…
Bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians, often called Bogoliubov Hamiltonians, play an important role in the theory of many-boson systems where they arise in a natural way as an approximation to the full many-body problem. In this note we would like to give an overview of recent advances in the study of bosonic quadratic Hamiltonians. In particular, we relate the reported results to what can be called the time-dependent diagonalization problem.
Gauge invariant, Hamiltonian formulation of field dynamics within a compact region $Σ$ with boundary $\partial Σ$ is given for the gravitational field linearized over a Kottler metric. The boundary conditions which make the system autonomous are discussed and the corresponding Hamiltonian functional $\mathcal{H}_\text{Invariant}$ is calculated. It is shown that, under specific boundary conditions, the quasi-local Geroch--Hawking mass $\mathcal{H}_\text{Hawking}$ reduces to $\mathcal{H}_\text{Invariant}$ in the weak field approximation. This observation is a quasi-local version of the classical…
We construct one soliton solutions for the nonlinear Schroedinger equation with variable quadratic Hamiltonians in a unified form by taking advantage of a complete (super) integrability of generalized harmonic oscillators. The soliton wave evolution in external fields with variable quadratic potentials is totally determined by the linear problem, like motion of a classical particle with acceleration, and the (self-similar) soliton shape is due to a subtle balance between the linear Hamiltonian (dispersion and potential) and nonlinearity in the Schroedinger equation by the standards of soliton …
The aim of this paper is to create a large geometrical background on the dual 1-jet space J^{1*}(T,M) for a multi-time Hamiltonian approach of the electromagnetic and gravitational physical fields. Our geometric-physical construction is achieved starting only from a given quadratic Hamiltonian function of polymomenta H, which naturally produces a canonical nonlinear connection N, a canonical Cartan N-linear connection CΓ(N) and their corresponding local distinguished (d-) torsions and curvatures. In such a context, we construct some geometrical electromagnetic-like and gravitational-like field…
We show that one of the five cases of a quadratic Hamiltonian, which were recently selected by Sokolov and Wolf who used the Kovalevskaya-Lyapunov test, fails to pass the Painleve test for integrability.
In this paper, we analyze the stability of the real-valued Maxwell-Bloch equations with a control that depends on state variables quadratically. We also investigate the topological properties of the energy-Casimir map, as well as the existence of periodic orbits and explicitly construct the heteroclinic orbits.
In this paper we introduce a notion of integrability in the non autonomous sense. For the cases of 1 + 1/2 degrees of freedom and quadratic homogeneous Hamiltonians of 2 + 1/2 degrees of freedom we prove that this notion is equivalent to the classical complete integrability of the system in the extended phase space. For the case of quadratic homogeneous Hamiltonians of 2 + 1/2 degrees of freedom we also give a reciprocal of the Morales-Ramis result. We classify those systems by terms of symplectic change of frames involving algebraic functions of time, and give their canonical forms.
A Lie algebraic method for propagation of the Wigner quasi-distribution function under quadratic Hamiltonian was presented by Zoubi and Ben-Aryeh. We show that the same method can be used in order to propagate a rather general class of quasi distribution functions, which we call "Gaussian class". This class contains as special cases the well-known Wigner, Husimi, Glauber and Kirkwood-Rihaczek quasi-distribution functions. We present some examples of the calculation of the time-evolution of those functions.
The coherent states for a set of quadratic Hamiltonians in the trap regime are constructed. A matrix technique which allows to identify directly the creation and annihilation operators will be presented. Then, the coherent states as simultaneous eigenstates of the annihilation operators will be derived, and they are going to be compared with those attained through the displacement operator method. The corresponding wave function will be found, and a general procedure for obtaining several expected values involving the canonical operators in these states will be described. The results will be i…
We consider a system of a quantum particle interacting with a quantum field and an external potential $V(\bx)$. The Hamiltonian is defined by a quadratic form $H^V = H^0 + V(\bx)$, where $H^0$ is a quadratic form which preserves the total momentum. $H^0$ and $H^V$ are assumed to be bounded from below. We give a criterion for the positivity of the binding energy $E_\mathrm{bin} = E^0-E^V$, where $E^0$ and $E^V$ are the ground state energies of $H^0$ and $H^V$. As examples of the result, the positivity of the binding energy of the semi-relativistic Pauli-Fierz model and Nelson type Hamiltonian i…
Kahan discretization is applicable to any quadratic vector field and produces a birational map which approximates the shift along the phase flow. For a planar quadratic Hamiltonian vector field, this map is known to be integrable and to preserve a pencil of cubic curves. Generically, the nine base points of this pencil include three points at infinity (corresponding to the asymptotic directions of cubic curves) and six finite points lying on a conic. We show that the Kahan discretization map can be represented in six different ways as a composition of two Manin involutions, corresponding to an…
We present a construction of integrable quantum spin chains where local spin-spin interactions are weighted by ``position''-dependent potential containing abelian non-local spin dependance. This construction applies to the previously defined three general quadratic reflection-type algebras: respectively non-dynamical, semidynamical, fully dynamical.

Kahan discretization is applicable to any quadratic vector field and produces a birational map which approximates the shift along the phase flow. For a planar quadratic Hamiltonian vector field with a linear Poisson tensor and with a quadratic Hamilton function, this map is known to be integrable and to preserve a pencil of conics. In the paper `Three classes of quadratic vector fields for which the Kahan discretization is the root of a generalised Manin transformation' by P. van der Kamp et al., it was shown that the Kahan discretization can be represented as a composition of two involutions …
There exist a relation between the Klein-Gordon and the Dirac equations with scalar and vector potentials of equal magnitude (SVPEM) and the Schrodinger equation. We obtain the relativistic energy spectrum for the four Smorodinsky-Winternitz systems from the quasi-Hamiltonian and the quadratic algebras obtained by Daskaloyannis in the non-relativistic context. We point out how results obtained in context of quantum superintegrable systems and their polynomial algebras may be applied to the quantum relativistic case. We also present the symmetry algebra of the Dirac equation for these four syst…
We prove that the entanglement entropy of any pure initial state of a bipartite bosonic quantum system grows linearly in time with respect to the dynamics induced by any unstable quadratic Hamiltonian. The growth rate does not depend on the initial state and is equal to the sum of certain Lyapunov exponents of the corresponding classical dynamics. This paper generalizes the findings of [Bianchi et al., JHEP 2018, 25 (2018)], which proves the same result in the special case of Gaussian initial states. Our proof is based on a recent generalization of the strong subadditivity of the von Neumann e…
Consider a surface described by a Hamiltonian which depends only on the metric and extrinsic curvature induced on the surface. The metric and the curvature, along with the basis vectors which connect them to the embedding functions defining the surface, are introduced as auxiliary variables by adding appropriate constraints, all of them quadratic. The response of the Hamiltonian to a deformation in each of the variables is examined and the relationship between the multipliers implementing the constraints and the conserved stress tensor of the theory established.
Our main goal in this paper is to extend to any system of coupled quadratic Hamiltonians some properties known for systems of quantum harmonic oscillators related with the Brownian Quantum Motion model. In a first part we get a rather general formula for the purity (or the linear entropy) in a short time approximation. In a second part we establish a master equation (or a Fokker-Planck type equation) for the time evolution of the reduced matrix density for bilinearly coupled quadratic Hamiltonians. The Hamiltonians and the bilinear coupling can be time dependent. Moreover we give an explicit f…
Exactly solvable multistate Landau-Zener (MLZ) models are associated with families of operators that commute with the MLZ Hamiltonians and depend on time linearly. There can also be operators that satisfy the integrability conditions with the MLZ Hamiltonians but depend on time quadratically. We show that, among the MLZ systems, such time-quadratic operators are much more common. We demonstrate then that such operators generally lead to constraints on the independent variables that parametrize the scattering matrix. We show how such constraints lead to asymptotically exact expressions for the …
