Expanding on the work of Fouli and Vassilev \cite{FV}, we determine a formula for the *-$\rm{core}$ of an ideal in two different settings: (1) in a Cohen--Macaulay local ring of characteristic $p>0$, perfect residue field and test ideal of depth at least two, where the ideal has a minimal *-reduction that is a parameter ideal and (2) in a normal local domain of characteristic $p>0$, perfect residue field and $\m$-primary test ideal, where the ideal is a sufficiently high Frobenius power of an ideal. We also exhibit some examples where our formula fails if our hypotheses are not met.
The core of an ideal is the intersection of all of its reductions. The core has geometric significance coming, for example, from its connection to adjoint and multiplier ideals. In general, though, the core is difficult to describe explicitly. In this paper, we investigate a particular family of strongly stable ideals. We prove that ideals in this family satisfy an Artin-Nagata property, yet fail to satisfy other, stronger standard depth conditions. We then show that there is a surprisingly simple explicit formula for the core of these ideals.
The core of an ideal is defined as the intersection of all of its reductions. In this paper we provide an explicit description for the core of a monomial ideal $I$ satisfying certain residual conditions, showing that ${\rm core}(I)$ coincides with the largest monomial ideal contained in a general reduction of $I$. We prove that the class of lex-segment ideals satisfies these residual conditions and study the core of lex-segment ideals generated in one degree. For monomial ideals that do not necessarily satisfy the residual conditions and that are generated in one degree, we conjecture an expli…
We study minimal reductions of edge ideals of graphs and determine restrictions on the coefficients of the generators of these minimal reductions. We prove that when $I$ is not basic, then $\core{I}\subset \m I$, where $I$ is an edge ideal in the corresponding localized polynomial ring and $\m$ is the maximal ideal of this ring. We show that the inclusion is an equality for the edge ideal of an even cycle with an arbitrary number of whiskers. Moreover, we show that the core is obtained as a finite intersection of homogeneous minimal reductions in the case of even cycles. The formula for the co…
The core of an module is the intersection of all its reductions. The main result asserts that the core of a finitely generated, torsion-free, integrally closed module over a two dimensional regular local ring is the product of the module and the adjoint of an ideal. This generalizes the fundamental formula for the core of an integrally closed ideal in a two-dimensional regular local ring due to Huneke and Swanson. As an application, we show that for integrally closed modules $M$ and $N$ over a two-dimensional regular local ring with $M\subset N$ and $M^{**}=N^{**}$, the core of $M$ is containe…
We expand the notion of core to $cl$-core for Nakayama closures $cl$. In the characteristic $p>0$ setting, when $cl$ is the tight closure, denoted by *, we give some examples of ideals when the core and the *-core differ. We note that *-core$(I)=$ core$(I)$, if $I$ is an ideal in a one-dimensional domain with infinite residue field or if $I$ is an ideal generated by a system of parameters in any Noetherian ring. More generally, we show the same result in a Cohen--Macaulay normal local domain with infinite perfect residue field, if the analytic spread, $\ell$, is equal to the *-spread and $I$ i…
D. Rees和J.
We consider ideals $I$ in a Stanley-Reisner ring $k[Δ]$ over the simplical complex $Δ$, such that the tight closure of $I$, $I^*$, is equal to $\mathfrak{m}$, the standard graded maximal ideal of $k[Δ]$. We determine the minimal number of generators of $I$ to be the $\dim Δ+1$ and note the important role this value plays in bounding the intersection of all such ideals $I$. We make mention of this intersection in special cases of Stanley-Reisner rings. We conclude with a description of how this work relates to integral closure.
This note aims at finding explicit and efficient generation of ideals in subalgebras $R$ of the polynomial ring $S=k[t]$ ($k$ a field) such that $t^{c_0}S \subseteq R$ for some integer $c_0 > 0$. The class of these subalgebras which we call cores of $S$ includes the semigroup rings $k[H]$ of numerical semigroups $H$, but much larger than the class of numerical semigroup rings. For $R=k[H]$ and $M \in \operatorname{Max}R$, our result eventually shows that $μ_{R}(M) \in \{1,2,μ(H)\}$ where $μ_{R}(M)$ (resp. $μ(H)$) stands for the minimal number of generators of $M$ (resp. $H$), which covers in t…
In this paper, we work with certain families of ideals called $p$-families in rings of prime characteristic. This family of ideals is present in the theories of tight closure, Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity, and $F$-signature. For each $p$-family of ideals, we attach a Euclidean object called $p$-body, which is analogous to the Newton Okounkov body associated with a graded family of ideals. Using the combinatorial properties of $p$-bodies and algebraic properties of the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity, we establish in this paper a Volume = Multiplicity formula for $p$-families of $\mathfrak{m}_{R}$-prima…
In this paper we provide some precise formulas for regularity of powers of edge ideal of the disjoint union of some weighted oriented gap-free bipartite graphs. For the projective dimension of such an edge ideal, we give its exact formula. Meanwhile, we also give the upper and lower bounds of projective dimension of higher power of such edge ideals. Some examples show that these formulas are related to direction selection.
We give a formula to compute all the top degree graded Betti numbers of the path ideal of a cycle. Also we will find a criterion to determine when Betti numbers of this ideal are non zero and give a formula to compute its projective dimension and regularity.
In this paper we provide some exact formulas for the regularity of powers of edge ideals of vertex-weighted oriented cycles and vertex-weighted unicyclic graphs. These formulas are functions of the weight of vertices and the number of edges. We also give some examples to show that these formulas are related to direction selection and the weight of vertices.
We use purely combinatorial arguments to give a formula to compute all graded Betti numbers of path ideals of line graphs and cycles. As a consequence we can give new and short proofs for the known formulas of regularity and projective dimensions of path ideals of line graphs.
In this paper we provide some exact formulas for the projective dimension and the regularity of edge ideals associated to vertex weighted rooted forests and oriented cycles. As some consequences, we give some exact formulas for the depth of these ideals.
By generalizing the notion of the path ideal of a graph, we study some algebraic properties of some path ideals associated to a line graph. We show that the quotient ring of these ideals are always sequentially Cohen-Macaulay and also provide some exact formulas for the projective dimension and the regularity of these ideals. As some consequences, we give some exact formulas for the depth of these ideals.
In this paper, we give a formula to compute all the top degree graded Betti numbers of the path ideals of a cycle. As a consequence we can give a formula to compute its projective dimension and regularity.
In this paper, we explicitly give combinatorial formulas for the regularity of powers of edge ideals, $\reg(I(D)^k)$, of weighted oriented unmixed forests $D$ whose leaves are sinks ($V^+(D)$ are sinks). This combinatorial formula is a piecewise linear function of $k$, for $k \geq 1$.
In this paper we provide some exact formulas for the projective dimension and the regularity of edge ideals associated to three special types of vertex-weighted oriented $m$-partite graphs. These formulas are functions of the weight and number of vertices. We also give some examples to show that these formulas are related to direction selection and the weight of vertices.
In this paper we provide some exact formulas for projective dimension and the regularity of powers of edge ideals of vertex-weighted rooted forests. These formulas are functions of the weight of the vertices and the number of edges. We also give some examples to show that these formulas are related to direction selection and the assumptions about "rooted" forest such that $w(x)\geq 2$ if $d(x)\neq 1$ cannot be dropped.
Let $S=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$. In this paper, we compute the socle of $\cb$-bounded strongly stable ideals and determine that the saturation number of strongly stable ideals and of equigenerated $\cb$-bounded strongly stable ideals. We also provide explicit formulas for the saturation number $\sat(I)$ of Veronese type ideals $I$. Using this formula, we show that $\sat(I^k)$ is quasi-linear from the beginning and we determine the quasi-linear function explicitly.
As a generalization of formulas given by Demailly-Ein-Lazarsfeld, Eisenstein and Takagi, we prove a subadditivity formula for multiplier ideals associated to log pairs.
In this paper, we provide exact formulas for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of powers of an almost complete intersection ideal $I$ which is generated by a homogeneous $d$-sequence. As applications, when $I$ is an almost complete intersection, taking the form of the (parity) binomial edge ideal of a connected graph, we can describe explicitly formulas for $\reg(I^t)$ for $t\ge 2$. The only exception is when $I$ is the parity binomial edge ideal of a graph which is obtained by adding an edge between two disjoint odd cycles.
In this paper we study the Alexander dual of a vertex decomposable simplicial complex. We define the concept of a vertex splittable ideal and show that a simplicial complex $Δ$ is vertex decomposable if and only if $I_{Δ^{\vee}}$ is a vertex splittable ideal. Moreover, the properties of vertex splittable ideals are studied. As the main result, it is proved that any vertex splittable ideal has a Betti splitting and the graded Betti numbers of such ideals are explained with a recursive formula. As a corollary, recursive formulas for the regularity and projective dimension of $R/I_Δ$, when $Δ$ is…
In this article we give explicit descriptions of the multiplicities of some classes of monomial ideals. For instance, we give a formula for the multiplicities of all codimension 1 monomial ideals, and another formula for the multiplicities of almost complete intersections. We also introduce a new class of ideals that extends the family of monomial complete intersections, and give a formula for their multiplicity, as well as a visual interpretation of this invariant.
We prove that limits of multiplicities associated to graded families of ideals exist under very general conditions. Most of our results hold for analytically unramified equicharacteristic local rings, with perfect residue fields. We give a number of applications, including a "volume = multiplicity" formula, generalizing the formula of Lazarsfeld and Mustata, and a proof that the epsilon multiplicity of Ulrich and Validashti exists as a limit for ideals in rather general rings, including analytic local domains. We also prove an asymptotic "additivity formula" for limits of multiplicities, and a…
We give an explicit formula for the Hilbert-Poincaré series of the parity binomial edge ideal of a complete graph $K_{n}$ or equivalently for the ideal generated by all $2\times 2$-permanents of a $2\times n$-matrix. It follows that the depth and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of these ideals are independent of $n$.
We give explicit formulas for the Bhattacharya function of m-primary complete monomial ideals in two variables in terms of the vertices of the Newton polyhedra or in terms of the decompositions of the ideals as products of simple ideals.
Given a free resolution of an ideal $\mathfrak{a}$ of holomorphic functions, one can construct a vector-valued residue current, $R$, which coincides with the classical Coleff-Herrera product if $\mathfrak{a}$ is a complete intersection ideal and whose annihilator ideal is precisely ~$\mathfrak{a}$. We give a complete description of $R$ in the case when $\mathfrak{a}$ is an Artinian monomial ideal and the resolution is the hull resolution (or a more general cellular resolution), extending previous results by the second author. The main ingredient in the proof is a comparison formula for residue…
We provide a formula to compute the big Cohen-Macaulay test ideal for triples $((R,Δ),\mathfrak{a}^{t})$ where $R$ is a mixed characteristic toric ring and $\mathfrak{a}$ is a monomial ideal. Of particular interest is that this result is consistent with the formulas for test ideals in positive characteristic and multiplier ideals in characteristic zero.
We exhibit a new subadditivity formula for test ideals on singular varieties using an argument similar to those of Demailly-Ein-Lazarsfeld and Hara-Yoshida. Any subadditivity formula for singular varieties must have a correction term that measures the singularities of that variety. Whereas earlier subadditivity formulas accomplished this by multiplying by the Jacobian ideal, our approach is to use the formalism of Cartier algebras. We also show that our subadditivity containment is sharper than ones shown previously by Takagi and Eisenstein. The first of these results follows from a Noether no…
Let $R=\Bbbk[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ be a polynomial ring over a field $\Bbbk$ and let $I\subset R$ be a monomial ideal preserved by the natural action of the symmetric group $\mathfrak S_n$ on $R$. We give a combinatorial method to determine the $\mathfrak S_n$-module structure of $\mathrm{Tor}_i(I,\Bbbk)$. Our formula shows that $\mathrm{Tor}_i(I,\Bbbk)$ is built from induced representations of tensor products of Specht modules associated to hook partitions, and their multiplicities are determined by topological Betti numbers of certain simplicial complexes. This result can be viewed as an $\mathfra…
