Given a brane tiling, that is, a bipartite graph on a torus, we can associate with it a singular 3-Calabi-Yau variety. In this paper we study its commutative and non-commutative crepant resolutions. We give an explicit toric description of all its commutative crepant resolutions. We also explain how the McKay correspondence in dimension 3 can be interpreted using brane tilings.
Given a brane tiling, that is, a bipartite graph on a torus, we can associate with it a singular 3-Calabi-Yau variety. Using the brane tiling, we can also construct all crepant resolutions of the above variety. We give an explicit toric description of tilting bundles on these crepant resolutions. This result proves the conjecture of Hanany, Herzog and Vegh and a version of the conjecture of Aspinwall.
Using the theory of dimer models Broomhead proved that every 3-dimensional Gorenstein affine toric variety Spec R admits a toric non-commutative crepant resolution (NCCR). We give an alternative proof of this result by constructing a tilting bundle on a (stacky) crepant resolution of Spec R using standard toric methods. Our proof does not use dimer models.
We give a criterion for the existence of non-commutative crepant resolutions (NCCR's) for certain toric singularities. In particular we recover Broomhead's result that a 3-dimensional toric Gorenstein singularity has a NCCR. Our result also yields the existence of a NCCR for a 4-dimensional toric Gorenstein singularity which is known to have no toric NCCR.
We present an algorithm that finds all toric noncommutative crepant resolutions of a given toric 3-dimensional Gorenstein singularity. The algorithm embeds the quivers of these algebras inside a real 3-dimensional torus such that the relations are homotopy relations. One can project these embedded quivers down to a 2-dimensional torus to obtain the corresponding dimer models. We discuss some examples and use the algorithm to show that all toric noncommutative crepant resolutions of a finite quotient of the conifold singularity can be obtained by mutating one basic dimer model. We also discuss …
In this paper, we study splitting (or toric) non-commutative crepant resolutions (= NCCRs) of some toric rings. In particular, we consider Hibi rings, which are toric rings arising from partially ordered sets, and show that Gorenstein Hibi rings with class group $\mathbb{Z}^2$ have a splitting NCCR. In the appendix, we also discuss Gorenstein toric rings with class group $\mathbb{Z}$, in which case the existence of splitting NCCRs is already known. We especially observe the mutations of modules giving splitting NCCRs for the three dimensional case, and show the connectedness of the exchange gr…
A necessary condition for the existence of torus-equivariant crepant resolutions of Gorenstein toric singularities can be derived by making use of a variant of the classical Upper Bound Theorem which is valid for simplicial balls.
In this paper we analyze six examples of birational transformations between toric orbifolds: three crepant resolutions, two crepant partial resolutions, and a flop. We study the effect of these transformations on genus-zero Gromov-Witten invariants, proving the Coates-Corti-Iritani-Tseng/Ruan form of the Crepant Resolution Conjecture in each case. Our results suggest that this form of the Crepant Resolution Conjecture may also hold for more general crepant birational transformations. They also suggest that Ruan's original Crepant Resolution Conjecture should be modified, by including appropria…
It is known that the underlying spaces of all abelian quotient singularities which are embeddable as complete intersections of hypersurfaces in an affine space can be overall resolved by means of projective torus-equivariant crepant birational morphisms in all dimensions. In the present paper we extend this result to the entire class of toric l.c.i.-singularities. Our proof makes use of Nakajima's classification theorem and of some special techniques from toric and discrete geometry.
Let X and Y be K-equivalent toric Deligne-Mumford stacks related by a single toric wall-crossing. We prove the Crepant Transformation Conjecture in this case, fully-equivariantly and in genus zero. That is, we show that the equivariant quantum connections for X and Y become gauge-equivalent after analytic continuation in quantum parameters. Furthermore we identify the gauge transformation involved, which can be thought of as a linear symplectomorphism between the Givental spaces for X and Y, with a Fourier-Mukai transformation between the K-groups of X and Y, via an equivariant version of the …
In this article, we determine the explicit toric variety structure of $\hl^{A_1(n)}(\CZ^n)$ for $n=4,5$, where $A_1(n)$ is the special diagonal group of all order 2 elements. Through the toric data of $\hl^{A_1(n)}(\CZ^n)$, we obtain certain toric crepant resolutions of $\CZ^n/A_1(n)$, and the different crepant resolutions are connected by flops of $n$-folds for $n=4,5$.
We investigate the relationship between the Lagrangian Floer superpotentials for a toric orbifold and its toric crepant resolutions. More specifically, we study an open string version of the crepant resolution conjecture (CRC) which states that the Lagrangian Floer superpotential of a Gorenstein toric orbifold $\mathcal{X}$ and that of its toric crepant resolution $Y$ coincide after analytic continuation of quantum parameters and a change of variables. Relating this conjecture with the closed CRC, we find that the change of variable formula which appears in closed CRC can be explained by relat…
Let X be a Gorenstein orbifold and let Y be a crepant resolution of X. We state a conjecture relating the genus-zero Gromov--Witten invariants of X to those of Y, which differs in general from the Crepant Resolution Conjectures of Ruan and Bryan--Graber, and prove our conjecture when X = P(1,1,2) and X = P(1,1,1,3). As a consequence, we see that the original form of the Bryan--Graber Conjecture holds for P(1,1,2) but is probably false for P(1,1,1,3). Our methods are based on mirror symmetry for toric orbifolds.
We establish a genus zero correspondence between the equivariant Gromov-Witten theory of the Deligne-Mumford stack $[\mathbb{C}^N/G]$ and its blowup at the origin. The relationship generalizes the crepant transformation conjecture of Coates-Iritani-Tseng and Coates-Ruan to the discrepant (non-crepant) setting using asymptotic expansion. Using this result together with quantum Serre duality and the MLK correspondence we prove LG/Fano and LG/general type correspondences for hypersurfaces.
We introduce special classes of non-commutative crepant resolutions (= NCCR) which we call steady and splitting. We show that a singularity has a steady splitting NCCR if and only if it is a quotient singularity by a finite abelian group. We apply our results to toric singularities and dimer models.
We prove that a crepant resolution of a Ricci-flat Kähler cone X admits a complete Ricci-flat Kähler metric asymptotic to the cone metric in every Kähler class in H^2_c(Y,R). This result contains as a subcase the existence of ALE Ricci-flat Kähler metrics on crepant resolutions of X=C^n /G, where G is a finite subgroup of SL(n,C). We consider the case in which X is toric. A result of A. Futaki, H. Ono, and G. Wang guarantees the existence of a Ricci-flat Kähler cone metric if X is Gorenstein. We use toric geometry to construct crepant resolutions.
In this paper, we prove that Ruan's Cohomological Crepant Resolution Conjecture holds for the Hilbert-Chow morphisms. There are two main ideas in the proof. The first one is to use the representation theoretic approach proposed in [QW] which involves vertex operator techniques. The second is to prove certain universality structures about the 3-pointed genus-0 extremal Gromov-Witten invariants of the Hilbert schemes by using the indexing techniques from [LiJ], the product formula from [Beh2] and the co-section localization from [KL1, KL2, LL]. We then reduce Ruan's Conjecture from the case of a…
An infinite type toric variety is a normal toric variety given by a fan with infinitely many cones. We construct examples in this paper coming from representation theory of loop groups. The fans that appear are cones on Voronoi tilings on a vector space equipped with an inner product. We also explain the affine analogue of the connection between a generic torus orbit closure in a flag variety and the closure a maximal torus in the wonderful compactification.
For an arbitrary integer $r\geq 1$, we compute $r$-framed motivic PT and DT invariants of small crepant resolutions of toric Calabi-Yau $3$-folds, establishing a "higher rank" version of the motivic DT/PT wall-crossing formula. This generalises the work of Morrison and Nagao. Our formulae, in particular their relationship with the $r=1$ theory, fit nicely in the current development of higher rank refined DT invariants.
We show that all toric noncommutative crepant resolutions (NCCRs) of affine GIT quotients of "weakly symmetric" unimodular torus representations are derived equivalent. This yields evidence for a non-commutative extension of a well known conjecture by Bondal and Orlov stating that all crepant resolutions of a Gorenstein singularity are derived equivalent. We prove our result by showing that all toric NCCRs of the affine GIT quotient are derived equivalent to a fixed Deligne-Mumford GIT quotient stack associated to a generic character of the torus. This extends a result by Halpern-Leistner and …
On certain M-theory backgrounds which are a circle fibration over a smooth Calabi-Yau, the quantum theory of M2 branes can be studied in terms of the K-theoretic Donaldson-Thomas theory on the threefold. We extend this relation to noncommutative crepant resolutions. In this case the threefold develops a singularity and classical smooth geometry is replaced by the algebra of paths of a certain quiver. K-theoretic quantities on the quiver representation moduli space can be computed via toric localization and result in certain rational functions of the toric parameters. We discuss in particular t…
We describe limits of line bundles on nodal curves in terms of toric arrangements associated to Voronoi tilings of Euclidean spaces. These tilings encode information on the relationship between the possibly infinitely many limits, and ultimately give rise to a new definition of limit linear series. This article and the first two that preceded it are the first in a series aimed to explore this new approach. In Part I, we set up the combinatorial framework and showed how graphs weighted with integer lengths associated to the edges provide tilings of Euclidean spaces by certain polytopes associat…
The aim of this paper is to study an analog of non-commutative Donaldson-Thomas theory corresponding to the refined topological vertex for small crepant resolutions of toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds. We define the invariants using dimer models and provide "wall-crossing" formulas. In particular, we get normalized generating functions which are unchanged under "wall-crossing".

In this paper, we study divisorial ideals of a Hibi ring which is a toric ring arising from a partially ordered set. We especially characterize the special class of divisorial ideals called conic using the associated partially ordered set. Using our description of conic divisorial ideals, we also construct a module giving a non-commutative crepant resolution (= NCCR) of the Segre product of polynomial rings. Furthermore, applying the operation called mutation, we give other modules giving NCCRs of it.
In this note, we describe a a systematic procedure to find toric crepant resolutions of orbifold vertex, and show that the generating series of certain disc invariants of the orbifold vertex can be suitably identified with the generating series of certain disc invariants of its toric crepant resolutions.
Given the same anti-canonical linear system on two distinct toric varieties, we provide a derived equivalence between partial crepant resolutions of the corresponding stacky hypersurfaces. The applications include: a derived unification of toric mirror constructions, calculations of Picard lattices for linear systems of quartic surfaces, and a birational reduction of Reid's list to 81 families.
It is known that every three dimensional Gorenstein toric singularity has a crepant resolution. Although it is not unique, all crepant resolutions are connected by repeating the operation "flop". On the other hand, this singularity also has a non-commutative crepant resolution (= NCCR) which is constructed from a consistent dimer model. Such an NCCR is given as the endomorphism ring of a certain module which we call splitting maximal modifying module. In this paper, we show that all splitting maximal modifying modules are connected by repeating the operation "mutation" of splitting maximal mod…
Given any smooth toric surface S, we prove a SYM-HILB correspondence which relates the 3-point, degree zero, extended Gromov-Witten invariants of the n-fold symmetric product stack [Sym^n(S)] of S to the 3-point extremal Gromov-Witten invariants of the Hilbert scheme Hilb^n(S) of n points on S. As we do not specialize the values of the quantum parameters involved, this result proves a strengthening of Ruan's Cohomological Crepant Resolution Conjecture for the Hilbert-Chow morphism from Hilb^n(S) to Sym^n(S) and yields a method of reconstructing the cup product for Hilb^n(S) from the orbifold i…
The purpose of this paper is to construct a crepant resolution of quotient singularities by trihedral groups ( finite subgroups of SL(3,C) of certain type ), and prove that each Euler number of the minimal model is equal to the number of conjugacy classes. Trihedral singularities are 3-dimensional version of D_n-singularities, and they are non-isolated and many of them are not complete intersections. The resolution is similar to one of D_n-singularities. There is a nice combination of the toric resolution and Calabi-Yau resolution.
For Gorenstein quotient spaces $C^d/G$, a direct generalization of the classical McKay correspondence in dimensions $d\geq 4$ would primarily demand the existence of projective, crepant desingularizations. Since this turned out to be not always possible, Reid asked about special classes of such quotient spaces which would satisfy the above property. We prove that the underlying spaces of all Gorenstein abelian quotient singularities, which are embeddable as complete intersections of hypersurfaces in an affine space, have torus-equivariant projective crepant resolutions in all dimensions. We us…
In this paper we analyze four examples of birational transformations between local Calabi-Yau 3-folds: two crepant resolutions, a crepant partial resolution, and a flop. They also suggest that Ruan's original Crepant Resolution Conjecture should be modified, by including appr…
Let X be an orbifold with crepant resolution Y. The Crepant Resolution Conjectures of Ruan and Bryan-Graber assert, roughly speaking, that the quantum cohomology of X becomes isomorphic to the quantum cohomology of Y after analytic continuation in certain parameters followed by the specialization of some of these parameters to roots of unity. We prove these conjectures in the case where X is a surface singularity of type A. The key ingredient is mirror symmetry for toric orbifolds.
Let $X$ and $Y$ be two analytic canonical Gorenstein orbifolds. A resolution of singularities $Y\to X$ is called an Euler resolution if $Y$ and $X$ have the same orbifold Euler number. If $Y$ is only terminal rather than smooth, it is called an Euler terminalisation. It is proved that Euler terminalisations exist for toric varieties in any dimension, for 4-dimensional toroidal varieties, and for singularities $\C^4/G$ where $G$ belongs to certain classes of $\SL(4)$ subgroups. The method of proof is expected to be applicable to a sizeable number of finite $\SL(4)$ subgroups and to lead to a ge…
An infinite class of $4d$ $\mathcal{N}=1$ gauge theories can be engineered on the worldvolume of D3-branes probing toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds. This kind of setup has multiple applications, ranging from the gauge/gravity correspondence to local model building in string phenomenology. Brane tilings fully encode the gauge theories on the D3-branes and have substantially simplified their connection to the probed geometries. The purpose of this paper is to push the boundaries of computation and to produce as comprehensive a database of brane tilings as possible. We develop efficient implementations o…
Let $R$ be the coordinate ring of an affine toric variety. We show that the endomorphism ring $End_R(\mathbb A),$ where $\mathbb A$ is the (finite) direct sum of all (isomorphism classes of) conic $R$-modules, has finite global dimension. Furthermore, we show that $End_R(\mathbb A)$ is a non-commutative crepant resolution if and only if the toric variety is simplicial. For toric varieties over a perfect field $k$ of prime characteristic, we show that the ring of differential operators $D_\mathsf{k}(R)$ has finite global dimension.
For which finite subgroups G of SL(r,C), r \geq 4, are there crepant desingularizations of the quotient space C^r/G? A complete answer to this question (also known as "Existence Problem" for such desingularizations) would classify all those groups for which the high-dimensional versions of McKay correspondence are valid. In the paper we consider this question in the case of abelian finite subgroups of SL(r,C) by using techniques from toric and discrete geometry. We give two necessary existence conditions, involving the Hilbert basis elements of the cone supporting the junior simplex, and an Up…
Dimer models are a combinatorial tool to describe certain algebras that appear as noncommutative crepant resolutions of toric Gorenstein singularities. Unfortunately, not every dimer model gives rise to a noncommutative crepant resolution. Several notions of consistency have been introduced to deal with this problem. In this paper we study the major different notions in detail and show that for dimer models on a torus they are all equivalent.
Homological mirror symmetry for crepant resolutions of Gorenstein toric singularities leads to a pair of conjectures on certain hypergeometric systems of PDEs. We explain these conjectures and verify them in some cases.
