In this paper we extend the notion of g-evaluation, in particular g-expectation, to the case where the generator g is allowed to have a quadratic growth. We show that some important properties of the g-expectations, including a representation theorem between the generator and the corresponding g-expectation, and consequently the reverse comparison theorem of quadratic BSDEs as well as the Jensen inequality, remain true in the quadratic case. Our main results also include a Doob-Meyer type decomposition, the optional sampling theorem, and the up-crossing inequality. The results of this paper are important in the further development of the general quadratic nonlinear expectations.
In this paper we extend the notion of ``filtration-consistent nonlinear expectation" (or "${\cal F}$-consistent nonlinear expectation") to the case when it is allowed to be dominated by a $g$-expectation that may have a quadratic growth. We show that for such a nonlinear expectation many fundamental properties of a martingale can still make sense, including the Doob-Meyer type decomposition theorem and the optional sampling theorem. More importantly, we show that any quadratic ${\cal F}$-consistent nonlinear expectation with a certain domination property must be a quadratic $g$-expectation. Th…
In this article, we follow the study of quadratic backward SDEs with jumps, that is to say for which the generator has quadratic growth in the variables (z; u), started in our accompanying paper [15]. Relying on the existence and uniqueness result of [15], we define the corresponding g-expectations and study some of their properties. We obtain in particular a non-linear Doob-Meyer decomposition for g-submartingales and a downcrossing inequality which implies their regularity in time. As a consequence of these results, we also obtain a converse comparison theorem for our class of BSDEs. Finally,…
We develop a notion of nonlinear expectation --G-expectation-- generated by a nonlinear heat equation with infinitesimal generator G. We first study multi-dimensional G-normal distributions. With this nonlinear distribution we can introduce our G-expectation under which the canonical process is a multi dimensional G-Brownian motion. We then establish the related stochastic calculus, especially stochastic integrals of Ito's type with respect to our G-Brownian motion and derive the related Ito's formula. We have also obtained the existence and uniqueness of stochastic differential equation under…
In this paper, we define a dynamically consistent conditional G-expectation in space $\mathbb{L}^{p}$, and give the related stochastic calculus of Itô's type, especially get Itô's formula for a general $C^{1,2}$-function.
In this paper, we establish a general representation theorem for generator of backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE), whose generator has a quadratic growth in $z$. As some applications, we obtain a general converse comparison theorem of such quadratic BSDEs and uniqueness theorem, translation invariance for quadratic $g$-expectation.
We introduce a notion of nonlinear expectation --G--expectation-- generated by a nonlinear heat equation with infinitesimal generator G. We first discuss the notion of G-standard normal distribution. With this nonlinear distribution we can introduce our G-expectation under which the canonical process is a G--Brownian motion. We then establish the related stochastic calculus, especially stochastic integrals of Ito's type with respect to our G--Brownian motion and derive the related Ito's formula. We have also give the existence and uniqueness of stochastic differential equation under our G-expe…
In this paper, we are concerned with the representation of an important sublinear expectation under which framework a new stochastic process G-Lévy process has been introduced. We show the existence of a weakly compact family of probability measures to give the representation by using two different methods.
In this paper, we extend the G-expectation theory to infinite dimensions. Such notions as a covariation set of G-normal distributed random variables, viscosity solution, a stochastic integral driven by G-Brownian motion are introduced and described in the given infinite dimensional case. We also give a probabilistic representation of the unique viscosity solution to the fully nonlinear parabolic PDE with unbounded first order term in Hilbert space in terms of G-expectation theory.
In this paper, on the sublinear expectation space, we establish a comparison theorem between independent and convolutionary random vectors, which states that the partial sums of those two sequences of random vectors are identically distributed. Under the sublinear framework, through the comparison theorem, several fundamental limit theorems for convolutionary random vectors are obtained, including the law of large numbers, the central limit theorem and the law of iterated logarithm.
In this paper we extend the definition of time conditional G-expectations $\mathbb{\hat{E}}_{t}[\cdot]$ to a larger domain on which the dynamical consistency still holds. In fact we can consistently define, by taking the limit, the time conditional expectations for each random variable $X$ which is the downward limit (resp. upward limit) of a monotone sequence $\{X_{i}\}$ in $L_{G}^{1}(Ω)$. To accomplish this procedure, some careful analysis is needed. Moreover, we give a suitable definition of stopping times and obtain the optional stopping theorem. We also provide some basic and interesting …
In this paper we give some basic and important properties of several typical Banach spaces of functions of $G$-Brownian motion pathes induced by a sublinear expectation--G-expectation. Many results can be also applied to more general situations. A generalized version of Kolmogorov's criterion for continuous modification of a stochastic process is also obtained. The results can be applied to continuous time dynamic and coherent risk measures in finance in particular for path-dependence risky positions under situations of volatility model uncertainty.
This paper introduces the notion of pseudo-independence on the sublinear expectation space $(Ω,\mathcal{F},\mathcal{P})$ via the classical conditional expectation, and the relations between pseudo-independence and Peng's independence are detailed discussed. Law of large numbers and central limit theorem for pseudo-independent random variables are obtained, and a purely probabilistic proof of Peng's law of large numbers is also given. In the end, some relevant counterexamples are indicated that Peng's law of large numbers and central limit theorem are invalid only with the first and second mome…
Let $\{X_n;n\ge 1\}$ be a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables on a sub-linear expectation space $(Ω,\mathscr{H},\widehat{\mathbb E})$, $S_n=X_1+\ldots+X_n$. We consider the moments of $\max_{n\ge 1}|S_n|/\sqrt{2n\log\log n}$. The sufficient and necessary conditions for the moments to be finite are given. As an application, we obtain the law of the iterated logarithm for moving average processes of independent and identically distributed random variables.
Given a process with independent increments $X$ (not necessarily a martingale) and a large class of square integrable r.v. $H=f(X_T)$, $f$ being the Fourier transform of a finite measure $μ$, we provide explicit Kunita-Watanabe and Föllmer-Schweizer decompositions. The representation is expressed by means of two significant maps: the expectation and derivative operators related to the characteristics of $X$. We also provide an explicit expression for the variance optimal error when hedging the claim $H$ with underlying process $X$. Those questions are motivated by finding the solution of the c…

The limiting behavior of Toeplitz type quadratic forms of stationary processes has received much attention through decades, particularly due to its importance in statistical estimation of the spectrum. In the present paper we study such quantities in the case where the stationary process is a discretely sampled continuous-time moving average driven by a Lévy process. We obtain sufficient conditions, in terms of the kernel of the moving and the coefficients of the quadratic form, ensuring that the centered and adequately normalized version of the quadratic form converges weakly to a Gaussian li…
Under the continuous assumption on the generator $g$, Briand et al. [Electron. Comm. Probab. 5 (2000) 101--117] showed some connections between $g$ and the conditional $g$-expectation $({\mathcal{E}}_g[\cdot|{\mathcal{F}}_t])_{t\in[0,T]}$ and Rosazza Gianin [Insurance: Math. Econ. 39 (2006) 19--34] showed some connections between $g$ and the corresponding dynamic risk measure $(ρ^g_t)_{t\in[0,T]}$. In this paper we prove that, without the additional continuous assumption on $g$, a $g$-expectation ${\mathcal{E}}_g$ satisfies translation invariance if and only if $g$ is independent of $y$, and $…
In this paper, we look at a probabilistic approach to a non-local quadratic form that has lately attracted some interest. This form is related to a recently introduced non-local normal derivative. The goal is to construct two Markov process: one corresponding to that form and the other which is related to a probabilistic interpretation of the Neuman problem. We also study the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator for non-local operators.
In this paper, we address the stochastic representation problem in discrete time under (non-linear) g-expectation. We establish existence and uniqueness of the solution, as well as a characterization of the solution. As an application, we investigate a new approach to the optimal stopping problem under g-expectation and the related pricing of American options under Knightian uncertainty. Our results are also applied to a (non-linear) Skorokhod-type obstacle problem.
In this paper, we investigate risk minimization problem of derivatives based on non-tradable underlyings by means of dynamic g-expectations which are slight different from conditional g-expectations. In this framework, inspired by [1] and [16], we introduce risk indifference price, marginal risk price and derivative hedge and obtain their corresponding explicit expressions. The interesting thing is that their expressions have nothing to do with nonlinear generator g, and one deep reason for this is due to the completeness of financial market. By giving three useful special risk minimization pr…
In this paper, motived by the notion of independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectation initiated by Peng, we give a theorem about the convergence of a random series and establish a three series theorem of independent random variables under the sub-linear expectations. As an application, we obtain the Marcinkiewicz's strong law of large numbers for independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectations. The technical details are different from those for classical theorems because the sub-linear expectation and its re…
Under the sublinear expectation $\mathbb{E}[\cdot]:=\sup_{θ\in Θ} E_θ[\cdot]$ for a given set of linear expectations $\{E_θ: θ\in Θ\}$, we establish a new law of large numbers and a new central limit theorem with rate of convergence. We present some interesting special cases and discuss a related statistical inference problem. We also give an approximation and a representation of the $G$-normal distribution, which was used as the limit in Peng (2007)'s central limit theorem, in a probability space.
The main result of the article reads: the distribution of a continuous starting from zero local martingale whose quadratic characteristic is almost surely absolutely continuous with respect to some non-random increasing continuous function is determined by the distribution of the quadratic characteristic. Functional limit theorem based on this characterization are proved.
Employing two models, we show that various counting functions of a random variable defined by restriction or contraction of a ranked set with multiplicity (e.g., classical and arithmetic matroids) have expectations given by the corresponding multivariate Tutte polynomial. The first model is based on a generalization of a convolution formula of Kung (2010), extending from matroids to ranked sets with multiplicities. This model enables us to compute the expectations of many familiar polynomials, such as the chromatic, flow and Ehrhart polynomials, generalizing the classical results of Welsh (199…
Most previous contributions to BSDEs, and the related theories of nonlinear expectation and dynamic risk measures, have been in the framework of continuous time diffusions or jump diffusions. Using solutions of BSDEs on spaces related to finite state, continuous time Markov chains, we develop a theory of nonlinear expectations in the spirit of [Dynamically consistent nonlinear evaluations and expectations (2005) Shandong Univ.]. We prove basic properties of these expectations and show their applications to dynamic risk measures on such spaces. In particular, we prove comparison theorems for sc…
We study the existence of optimal actions in a zero-sum game $\inf_τ\sup_PE^P[X_τ]$ between a stopper and a controller choosing a probability measure. This includes the optimal stopping problem $\inf_τ\mathcal{E}(X_τ)$ for a class of sublinear expectations $\mathcal{E}(\cdot)$ such as the $G$-expectation. We show that the game has a value. Moreover, exploiting the theory of sublinear expectations, we define a nonlinear Snell envelope $Y$ and prove that the first hitting time $\inf\{t:Y_t=X_t\}$ is an optimal stopping time. The existence of a saddle point is shown under a compactness condition.…

We derive an asymptotic expansion for the quadratic variation of a stochastic process satisfying a stochastic differential equation driven by a fractional Brownian motion, based on the theory of asymptotic expansion of Skorohod integrals converging to a mixed normal limit. In order to apply the general theory, it is necessary to estimate functionals that are a randomly weighted sum of products of multiple integrals of the fractional Brownian motion, in expanding the quadratic variation and identifying the limit random symbols. To overcome the difficulty, we introduce two types of exponents by …
The free Meixner laws arise as the distributions of orthogonal polynomials with constant-coefficient recursions. We show that these are the laws of the free pairs of random variables which have linear regressions and quadratic conditional variances when conditioned with respect to their sum. We apply this result to describe free Levy processes with quadratic conditional variances, and to prove a converse implication related to asymptotic freeness of random Wishart matrices.
We describe a new framework of a sublinear expectation space and the related notions and results of distributions, independence. A new notion of G-distributions is introduced which generalizes our G-normal-distribution in the sense that mean-uncertainty can be also described. W present our new result of central limit theorem under sublinear expectation. This theorem can be also regarded as a generalization of the law of large number in the case of mean-uncertainty.
Given uniform probability on words of length M=Np+k, from an alphabet of size p, consider the probability that a word (i) contains a subsequence of letters (p, p-1,...,1) in that order and (ii) that the maximal length of the disjoint union of p-1 increasing subsequences of the word is \leq M-N . A generating function for this probability has the form of an integral over the Grassmannian of p-planes in complex C^n. The present paper shows that the asymptotics of this probability, when N tends to infinity, is related to the kth moment of the chi^2-distribution of parameter 2p^2. This is related …
