We study the linear growth of matter perturbations in the DGP model with the growth index $γ$ as a function of redshift. At the linear approximation: $γ(z)\approxγ_0+γ_0^\prime z $, we find that, for $0.2\leqΩ_{m,0}\leq0.35$, $γ_0$ takes the value from 0.658 to 0.671, and $γ_0^\prime$ ranges from 0.035 to 0.042. With three low redshift observational data of the growth factor, we obtain the observational constraints on $γ_0$ and $γ_0'$ for the $ΛCDM$ and DGP models and find that the observations favor the $ΛCDM$ model but at the $1σ$ confidence level both the $ΛCDM$ and DGP models are consistent with the observations.
We propose two improved parameterized form for the growth index of the linear matter perturbations: (I) $γ(z)=γ_0+(γ_{\infty}-γ_0){z\over z+1}$ and (II) $γ(z)=γ_0+γ_1 \frac{z}{z+1}+(γ_{\infty}-γ_1-γ_0)(\frac{z}{z+1})^α$. With these forms of $γ(z)$, we analyze the accuracy of the approximation the growth factor $f$ by $Ω^{γ(z)}_m$ for both the $ω$CDM model and the DGP model. For the first improved parameterized form, we find that the approximation accuracy is enhanced at the high redshifts for both kinds of models, but it is not at the low redshifts. For the second improved parameterized form, …
Recently, some efforts focus on differentiating dark energy and modified gravity with the growth function $δ(z)$. In the literature, it is useful to parameterize the growth rate $f\equiv d\lnδ/d\ln a=Ω_m^γ$ with the growth index $γ$. In this note, we consider the general DGP model with any $Ω_k$. We confront the growth index of DGP model with currently available growth rate data and find that the DGP model is still consistent with it. This implies that more and better growth rate data are required to distinguish between dark energy and modified gravity.
We solve for the behaviour of cosmological perturbations in the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model using a new numerical method. Unlike some other approaches in the literature, our method uses no approximations other than linear theory and is valid on large scales. We examine the behaviour of late-universe density perturbations for both the self-accelerating and normal branches of DGP cosmology.
Our numerical results can form the basis of a detailed comparison between the DGP model and cosmological observations.
We construct a warm inflation model with inflaton field non-minimally coupled to induced gravity on a warped DGP brane. We incorporate possible modification of the induced gravity on the brane in the spirit of $f(R)$-gravity. We study cosmological perturbations in this setup. In the case of two field inflation such as warm inflation, usually entropy perturbations are generated. While it is expected that in the case of one field inflation these perturbations to be removed, we show that even in the absence of the radiation field, entropy perturbations are generated in our setup due to non-minima…
We propose a parametrization for the growth index of the linear matter perturbations, $γ(z)=γ_0+\frac{z}{1+z}γ_1$. The growth factor of the perturbations parameterized as $Ω_m^γ$ is analyzed for both the $w$CDM model and the DGP model with our proposed form for $γ$. We find that $γ_1$ is negative for the $w$CDM model but is positive for the DGP model. Thus it provides another signature to discriminate them. We demonstrate that $Ω_m^γ$ with $γ$ taking our proposed form approximates the growth factor very well both at low and high redshfits for both kinds of models. In fact, the error is below 0…
We analyze the weak gravity in the braneworld model proposed by Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati, in which the unperturbed background spacetime is given by five dimensional Minkowski bulk with a brane which has the induced Einstein Hilbert term. This model has a critical length scale $r_c$. Naively, we expect that the four dimensional general relativity (4D GR) is approximately recovered at the scale below $r_c$. However, the simple linear perturbation does not work in this regime. Only recently the mechanism to recover 4D GR was clarified under the restriction to spherically symmetric configurations, …
According to experimental data of SNe Ia (Supernovae type Ia), we will discuss in detial dynamics of the DGP model and introduce a simple parametrization of matter $ω$, in order to analyze scenarios of the expanding universe and the evolution of the scale factor. We find that the dimensionless matter density parameter at the present epoch $Ω^0_m=0.3$, the age of the universe $t_0= 12.48$ Gyr, $\frac{a}{a_0}=-2.4e^{\frac{-t}{25.56}}+2.45$. The next we study the linear growth of matter perturbations, and we assume a definition of the growth rate, $f \equiv \frac{dlnδ}{dlna}$. As many authors for…
We develop analytic solutions for the linear evolution of metric perturbations in the DGP braneworld modified gravity scenario including near-horizon and superhorizon modes where solutions in the bulk are required. These solutions apply to both the self-accelerating and normal branch and elucidate the nature of coordinate singularities and initial data in the bulk as well as their effect on perturbation evolution on the brane. Even on superhorizon scales, the evolution of metric perturbations is no longer necessarily scale free due to multiple resonances in the bulk. Based on these analytic so…
The DGP brane-world model provides an alternative to the standard LCDM cosmology, in which the late universe accelerates due to a modification of gravity rather than vacuum energy. The cosmological constant $Λ$ in LCDM is replaced by a single parameter, the crossover scale $r_c$, in DGP. The Supernova redshift observations can be fitted by both models, with $Λ\sim H_0^2$ and $r_c \sim H_0^{-1}$. This degeneracy is broken by structure formation, which is suppressed in different ways in the two models. There is some confusion in the literature about how the standard linear growth factor is modif…
We perform a detailed comparison between the Finsler-Randers cosmological model and the Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati braneworld model. If we assume that the spatial curvature is strictly equal to zero then we prove the following interesting proposition: {\it despite the fact that the current cosmological models have a completely different geometrical origin they share exactly the same Hubble expansion}. This implies that the Finsler-Randers model is cosmologically equivalent with that of the DGP model as far as the cosmic expansion is concerned. At the perturbative level we find that the Finsl…
We develop a scaling ansatz for the master equation in Dvali, Gabadadze, Porrati cosmologies, which allows us to solve the equations of motion for perturbations off the brane during periods when the on-brane evolution is scale-free. This allows us to understand the behavior of the gravitational potentials outside the horizon at high redshifts and close to the horizon today. We confirm that the results of Koyama and Maartens are valid at scales relevant for observations such as galaxy-ISW correlation. At larger scales, there is an additional suppression of the potential which reduces the growth…
The braneworld model of Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati (DGP) provides an intriguing modification of gravity at large distances and late times. By embedding a three-brane in an uncompactified extra dimension with separate Einstein-Hilbert terms for both brane and bulk, the DGP model allows for an accelerating universe at late times even in the absence of an explicit vacuum energy. We examine the evolution of cosmological perturbations on large scales in this theory. At late times, perturbations enter a DGP regime in which the effective value of Newton's constant increases as the background densit…
We study quasi-static perturbations in a cosmological background in the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model. We identify the Vainshtein radius at which the non-linear interactions of the brane bending mode become important in a cosmological background. The Vainshtein radius in the early universe is much smaller than the one in the Minkowski background, but in a self-accelerating universe it is the same as the Minkowski background. Our result shows that the perturbative approach is applicable beyond the Vainshtein radius for weak gravity by taking into account the second order effect…
We find an exact solution on the brane for static black hole in the DGP model. In the appropriate limit we recover the 2 known solutions, the Schwarzschild and the Reissner-Nordstrom solutions with tidal charge. The solution has 2 branches, which correspond asymptotically to de-Sitter or flat Universe. Also we study the linear stability of the solutions. We find that the Regge-Wheeler and the Zerilli potential are positive. Finally the dipole perturbation is derived which corresponds to a linearization of a rotating black hole solution on the brane.
We perform here a global analysis of the growth index $γ$ behaviour from deep in the matter era till the far future. For a given cosmological model in GR or in modified gravity, the value of $γ(Ω_{m})$ is unique when the decaying mode of scalar perturbations is negligible. However, $γ_{\infty}$, the value of $γ$ in the asymptotic future, is unique even in the presence of a nonnegligible decaying mode today. Moreover $γ$ becomes arbitrarily large deep in the matter era. Only in the limit of a vanishing decaying mode do we get a finite $γ$, from the past to the future in this case. We find furth…
We investigate the presence of instabilities in the Cascading DGP model. We start by discussing the problem of the cosmological late time acceleration, and we introduce the modified gravity approach. We then focus on brane induced gravity models and in particular on the Cascading DGP model. We consider configurations of the latter model where the source term is given simply by vacuum energy (pure tension), and we study perturbations at first order around these configurations. We perform a four-dimensional scalar-vector-tensor decomposition of the perturbations, and show that, regarding the sca…
We build five-dimensional spherically symmetric wormholes within the DGP theory. We calculate the energy localized on the shell, and we find that the wormholes could be supported by matter not violating the energy conditions. We also show that solitonic shells characterized by zero pressure and zero energy can exist; thereafter we make some observations regarding their dynamic on the phase plane. In addition, we concentrate on the mechanical stability of wormholes under radial perturbation preserving the original spherical symmetry. In order to do that, we consider linearized perturbations aro…
If two DGP branes carry U(1) gauge theories and overlap, particles of one brane can interact with the photons from the other brane. This coupling modifies in particular the Coulomb potentials between charges from the same brane in the overlapping regions. The coupling also introduces Coulomb interactions between charges from the different branes which can generate exotic bound states. The effective modification of the fine structure constant in the overlap region generates a trough in signals at the redshift of the overlap region and an increase at smaller or larger redshift, depending on the …
We place tight constraints on the growth index $γ$ by using the recent growth history results of 2dFGRS, SDSS-LRG, VIMOS-VLT deep Survey (VVDS) and {\em WiggleZ} datasets. In particular, we investigate several parametrizations of the growth index $γ(z)$, by comparing their cosmological evolution using observational growth rate data at different redshifts. Utilizing a standard likelihood analysis we find that the use of the combined growth data provided by the 2dFGRS, SDSS-LRG, VVDS and {\em WiggleZ} galaxy surveys, puts the most stringent constraints on the value of the growth index. As an exa…
We study the behaviour of weak gravitational fields in the 6D Cascading DGP model using a bulk-based approach. To deal with the ambiguity in the thin limit of branes of codimension higher than one, we consider a specific regularization of the internal structure of the branes where the 5D brane can be considered thin with respect to the 4D one. We consider the solutions corresponding to pure tension sources on the 4D brane, and study perturbations at first order around these background solutions. We adopt a 4D scalar-vector-tensor decomposition, and focus on the scalar sector of perturbations. …
A probability of distinguishing between $Λ$CDM model and modified gravity is studied by using the future observations for the growth rate of cosmic structure (Euclid redshift survey). Adopting extended DGP model, Kinetic Gravity Braiding model, and Galileon model as modified gravity, we compare predicted cosmic growth rate by models to the mock observational data. The growth rate $fσ_8$ in the original DGP model is suppressed compared with the $Λ$CDM case, for the same value of the current density parameter of matter $Ω_{m,0}$, because of the suppression of effective gravitational constant. In…
The growth rate of matter perturbations can be used to distinguish between different gravity theories and to distinguish between dark energy and modified gravity at cosmological scales as an explanation to the observed cosmic acceleration. We suggest here parameterizations of the growth index as functions of the redshift. The first one is given by $γ(a)=\tildeγ(a) \frac{1}{1+(a_{_{ttc}}/a)}+γ_{_{early}} \frac{1}{1+(a/a_{_{ttc}})}$ that interpolates between a low/intermediate redshift parameterization $\tildeγ(a)=γ_{_{late}}(a)= γ_0 + (1-a) γ_a$ and a high redshift $γ_{_{early}}$ constant value…
We systematically explore the spectrum of gravitational perturbations in codimension-1 DGP braneworlds, and find a 4D ghost on the self-accelerating branch of solutions. The ghost appears for any value of the brane tension, although depending on the sign of the tension it is either the helicity-0 component of the lightest localized massive tensor of mass $0<m^2 < 2H^2$ for positive tension, the scalar `radion' for negative tension, or their admixture for vanishing tension. Because the ghost is gravitationally coupled to the brane-localized matter, the self-accelerating solutions are not a reli…
A scalar-tensor theory of gravity can be made not only to account for the current cosmic acceleration, but also to satisfy solar-system and laboratory constraints, by introducing a non-linear derivative interaction for the scalar field. Such an additional scalar degree of freedom is called "Galileon". The basic idea is inspired by the DGP braneworld, but one can construct a ghost-free model that admits a self-accelerating solution. We perform a fully relativistic analysis of linear perturbations in Galileon cosmology. Although the Galileon model can mimic the background evolution of standard $…
We study for the first time the dynamical properties and the growth index of linear matter perturbations of the Finsler-Randers (FR) cosmological model, for which we consider that the cosmic fluid contains matter, radiation and a scalar field. Initially, for various FR scenarios we implement a critical point analysis and we find solutions which provide cosmic acceleration and under certain circumstances we can have de-Sitter points as stable late-time attractors. Then we derive the growth index of matter fluctuations in various Finsler-Randers cosmologies. Considering cold dark matter and negl…
We explore the cosmological implications of five modified gravity (MG) models by using the recent cosmological observational data, including the recently released SNLS3 type Ia supernovae sample, the cosmic microwave background anisotropy data from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe 7-yr observations, the baryon acoustic oscillation results from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey data release 7, and the latest Hubble constant measurement utilizing the Wide Field Camera 3 on the Hubble Space Telescope. The MG models considered include the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati(DGP) model, two $f(R)$ models, a…
The growth of matter perturbations in the $f(R)$ model proposed by Starobinsky is studied in this paper. Three different parametric forms of the growth index are considered respectively and constraints on the model are obtained at both the $1σ$ and $2σ$ confidence levels, by using the current observational data for the growth factor. It is found, for all the three parametric forms of the growth index examined, that the Starobinsky model is consistent with the observations only at the $2σ$ confidence level.
The density perturbation of the universe has been considered in the framework of a Finslerian cosmological model in which the background spacetime of the universe is taken as the spatially flat FLRW spacetime with a Finslerian perturbation. The inhomogeneity in the matter(energy) density arises naturally in this consideration of gravity in the $( α, β)$ - Finsler space for the background spacetime of the universe. The resulting inhomogeneous matter density indicates matter perturbation departing from the uniform density, and it is caused by the Finslerian perturbation in the Riemannian spaceti…
We disclose the effects of the entropic corrections to the Friedmann equations on the growth of perturbations in the early stages of the universe. We consider two types of corrections to the area law of entropy, known as Tsallis and Barrow entropies. Using these corrections to entropy, we derive the modified Friedmann equations and explore the growth of perturbations in a flat universe filled with dark matter (DM) and cosmological constant. We employ the spherically symmetric collapse formalism and work in the linear regime for the perturbations. Interestingly enough, we find out that the prof…
In this paper, we study the growth index of matter density perturbations for the power law model in $f(T)$ gravity. Using the parametrization $γ(z)=γ_0+γ_1 {z\over 1+z}$ for the growth index, which approximates the real evolution of $γ(z)$ very well, and the observational data of the growth factor, we find that, at $1σ$ confidence level, the power law model in $f(T)$ gravity is consistent with the observations, since the obtained theoretical values of $γ_0$ and $γ_1$ are in the allowed region.
A phenomenological extension of the well-known brane-world cosmology of Dvali, Gabadadze and Porrati (eDGP) has recently been proposed. In this model, a cosmological-constant-like term is explicitly present as a non-vanishing tension sigma on the brane, and an extra parameter alpha tunes the cross-over scale r_c, the scale at which higher dimensional gravity effects become non negligible. Since the Hubble parameter in this cosmology reproduces the same LCDM expansion history, we study how upcoming weak lensing surveys, such as Euclid and DES (Dark Energy Survey), can confirm or rule out this c…
Recently, a novel Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in four dimensions has been introduced [Phys. Rev. Lett. 124 (2020) 081301]. We will investigate cosmological consequences of this model in details. We will consider linear matter density perturbations and also estimate relevant modified gravity parameters. Specially we will concentrate on the growth rate of non-relativistic matter perturbations on top of FRW geometry and show that for a narrow range of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant, observational data will be satisfied. In this paper, it is shown that for enough large values of the coupling…
Two different realistic $F(R)$ modified gravity models are considered in the framework of the Friedmann-Lemetre-Robertson-Walker universe. The parameters of these two models are adjusted to reach coherence with the most recent and accurate observations of the current universe. A study of the growth of matter density perturbations is done, and several parametrizations of the growth index are developed for both models. The ansatz for the growth index given by $γ= γ_0 + γ_1 z/(1+z)$ seems to be the best parametrization for the two models considered. Finally, the values obtained for $γ_0$ and $γ_1…
The covariant generalizations of the background dark sector coupling suggested in G. Mangano, G. Miele and V. Pettorino, Mod. Phys. Lett. A 18, 831 (2003) are considered. The evolution of perturbations is studied with detailed attention to interaction rate that is proportional to the product of dark matter and dark energy densities. It is shown that some classes of models with coupling of this type do not suffer from early time instabilities in strong coupling regime.
We study the amplification of the curvature perturbations due to a small sound speed and find that its origin is different completely from that due to the ultraslow-roll inflation. This is because when the sound speed is very small the enhancement of the power spectrum comes from the fact that the curvature perturbations at the scales smaller than the cosmic microwave background (CMB) scale becomes scale-variant, rather than growing that leads to the amplification of the curvature perturbations during the ultraslow-roll inflation. At large scales the power spectrum of the curvature perturbatio…
Recently, a novel equation of state (EoS) parameter for dark energy has been introduced which deals with a special mathematical function, known as the Lambert$W$ function. In this paper, we study the effect on the growth of perturbations for the Lambert$W$ dark energy model. We perform the analysis for two different approaches. In the first case we consider the universe to be filled with two different fluid components, namely, the baryonic matter component and the Lambert$W$ dark energy component, while in the second case we consider that there is a single fluid component in the universe whose…
We use current and future simulated data of the growth rate of large scale structure in combination with data from supernova, BAO, and CMB surface measurements, in order to put constraints on the growth index parameters. We use a recently proposed parameterization of the growth index that interpolates between a constant value at high redshifts and a form that accounts for redshift dependencies at small redshifts. We also suggest here another exponential parameterization with a similar behaviour. The redshift dependent parametrizations provide a sub-percent precision level to the numerical grow…
It is well-known that an extremely accurate parametrization of the growth function of matter density perturbations in $Λ$CDM cosmology, with errors below $0.25 \%$, is given by $f(a)=Ω_{m}^γ \,(a)$ with $γ\simeq 0.55$. In this work, we show that a simple modification of this expression also provides a good description of growth in modified gravity theories. We consider the model-independent approach to modified gravity in terms of an effective Newton constant written as $μ(a,k)=G_{eff}/G$ and show that $f(a)=β(a)Ω_{m}^γ \,(a)$ provides fits to the numerical solutions with similar accuracy to t…
We consider the effect of modified gravity on the growth of large-scale structures at second order in perturbation theory. We show that modified gravity models changing the linear growth rate of fluctuations are also bound to change, although mildly, the mode coupling amplitude in the density and reduced velocity fields. We present explicit formulae which describe this effect. We then focus on models of modified gravity involving a scalar field coupled to matter, in particular chameleons and dilatons, where it is shown that there exists a transition scale around which the existence of an extra…
In this paper we examine the validity of the linear perturbation theory near a bounce in the covariant analysis. Some linearity parameters are defined to set up conditions for a linear theory. Linear evolution of density perturbation and gravitational waves have been computed previously. We have calculated the vector and scalar induced parts of the shear tensor. For radiationlike and dustlike single fluid dominated collapsing Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker background it is shown that the linearity conditions are not satisfied near a bounce.
We extensively study the evolution and distinct signatures of cosmological models, in which dark energy interacts directly with dark matter. We first focus on the imprints of these coupled models on the cosmic microwave background temperature power spectrum, in which we discuss the multipole peak separation together with the integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect. We also address the growth of matter perturbations, and disentangle the interacting dark energy models using the expansion history together with the growth history. We find that a disformal coupling between dark matter and dark energy induces…
We study the cosmological perturbations in teleparallel dark energy models in which there is a dynamical scalar field with a non-minimal coupling to gravity. We find that the propagating degrees of freedom are the same as in quintessence cosmology despite that variables of the perturbed vierbein field are greater than those in metric theories. We numerically show some evident discrepancy from general relativity in the evolutions of the perturbations on all scales of the universe. We also demonstrate that the gravitational interactions are enhanced during the unique tracker evolutions in these …
We consider asymptotically stable scalar-tensor dark energy (DE) models for which the equation of state parameter $w_{DE}$ tends to zero in the past. The viable models are of the phantom type today, however this phantomness is milder than in General Relativity if we take into account the varying gravitational constant when dealing with the SNIa data. We study further the growth of matter perturbations and we find a scaling behaviour on large redshifts which could provide an important constraint. In particular the growth of matter perturbations on large redshifts in our scalar-tensor models is …
We study cosmological inflation on a warped DGP braneworld where inflaton field is non-minimally coupled to induced gravity on the brane. We present a detailed calculation of the perturbations and inflation parameters both in Jordan and Einstein frame. We analyze the parameters space of the model fully to justify about the viability of the model in confrontation with recent observational data. We compare the results obtained in these two frames also in order to judge which frame gives more acceptable results in comparison with observational data.
We derive an analytical expression for the growth rate of matter density perturbations on the phantom brane (which is the normal branch of the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati model). This model is characterized by a phantomlike effective equation of state for dark energy at the present epoch. It agrees very well with observations. We demonstrate that the traditional parametrization $f=Ω_m^γ$ with a quasiconstant growth index $γ$ is not successful in this case. Based on a power series expansion at large redshifts, we propose a different parametrization for this model: $f=Ω_m^γ\left(1+\frac{b}{\ell H}\r…
Rastall gravity theory shows notable features consistent with physical observations in comparison to the standard Einstein theory. Recently, there has been a debate about the equivalence of Rastall gravity and general relativity. Motivated by this open issue, in the present work, we attempt to shed some light on this debate by analyzing the evolution of the Rastall based cosmological model at the background as well as perturbation level. Employing the dynamical system techniques, we found that at late times, the dynamics of the model resembles the $Λ$CDM model at the background level irrespect…
We consider the linear growth of matter perturbations on low redshifts in modified gravity Dark Energy (DE) models where G_eff(z,k) is explicitly scale-dependent. Dispersion in the growth today will only appear for scales of the order the critical scale ~ λ_{c,0}, the range of the fifth-force today. We generalize the constraint equation satisfied by the parameters γ_0(k) and γ'_0(k) \equiv \frac{dγ(z,k)}{dz}(z=0) to models with G_{eff,0}(k) \ne G. Measurement of γ_0(k) and γ'_0(k) on several scales can provide information about λ_{c,0}. In the absence of dispersion when λ_{c,0} is large compar…
We apply the Statefinder hierarchy and the growth rate of matter perturbations to discriminate modified Chaplygin gas (MCG), generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG), superfluid Chaplygin gas (SCG), purely kinetic k-essence (PKK), and $Λ$CDM model. We plot the evolutional trajectories of these models in the statefinder plane and in the composite diagnostic plane. We find that GCG, MCG, SCG, PKK, and $Λ$CDM can be distinguished well from each other at the present epoch by using the composite diagnostic $\{ε(z), S^{(1)}_{5}\}$. Using other combinations, such as $\{S^{(1)}_{3}, S^{(1)}_4\}$, $\{S^{(1)}_{3…
The Lambda-Cold Dark Matter (LCDM) model agrees with most of the cosmological observations, but has some hindrances from observed data at smaller scales such as galaxies. Recently, Berezhiani and Khoury (2015) proposed a new theory involving interacting superfluid dark matter with three model parameters, which explains galactic dynamics with great accuracy. In the present work, we study the cosmological behaviour of this model in the linear regime of cosmological perturbations. In particular, we compute both analytically and numerically the matter linear growth factor and obtain new bounds for…
We consider the linear growth of matter perturbations in various dark energy (DE) models. We show the existence of a constraint valid at $z=0$ between the background and dark energy parameters and the matter perturbations growth parameters. For $Λ$CDM $γ'_0\equiv \frac{dγ}{dz}_0$ lies in a very narrow interval $-0.0195 \le γ'_0 \le -0.0157$ for $0.2 \le Ω_{m,0}\le 0.35$. Models with a constant equation of state inside General Relativity (GR) are characterized by a quasi-constant $γ'_0$, for $Ω_{m,0}=0.3$ for example we have $γ'_0\approx -0.02$ while $γ_0$ can have a nonnegligible variation. A …
We study the growth of superhorizon modes in the curvature perturbation during an ultra-slow-roll or a large-$η$ phase in single-field inflation. In a simple toy model, we derive the two-point correlation function of the curvature perturbation and show that the requirement for causality restricts the growth rate and hence puts a lower limit on the value of $η$. The toy model is then realized by considering an inflation potential with an inflection point. Our study is useful to assessing the growth of the curvature perturbation that seeds the formation of primordial black holes.
We re-analyze the nonlocal gravity model of Deser and Woodard which was proposed to account for the current phase of cosmic acceleration. We show that the growth of perturbations predicted by this nonlocal gravity model when its background evolution is fixed by some particular non-$Λ$CDM models can be substantially lower than when its background is fixed by $Λ$CDM. This can be seen when we consider the background expansion by a dark energy model with a slightly less negative equation of state with respect to cosmological constant. Our results hints towards a fact that the choice of the backgro…
We study background dynamics and the growth of matter perturbations in the extended quasidilaton setup of massive gravity. For the analysis of perturbations, we first choose a scalar field matter component and obtain the conditions under which all scalar perturbations are stable. We work in unitary gauge for the matter field, which allows us to directly map to known results in the limit of general relativity. By performing a parameter search, we find that the perturbations are unstable in general, while a particular choice of potential, where the scalar field effectively behaves like pressurel…
We present a general formalism to study the growth of dark matter perturbations when dark energy perturbations and interactions between dark sectors are present. We show that dynamical stability of the growth of structure depends on the type of coupling between dark sectors. By taking the appropriate coupling to ensure the stable growth of structure, we observe that the effect of the dark sectors' interaction overwhelms that of dark energy perturbation on the growth function of dark matter perturbation. Due to the influence of the interaction, the growth index can differ from the value without…
We have put forward a new unified framework which provides a consistent and rather complete account of the growth index of matter perturbations in the regime where the dark energy is allowed to have clustering. In particular, we find that the growth index is not only affected by the cosmological parameters but rather it depends on the choice of the considered dark energy (homogeneous or clustered). Using the {\em Planck} priors and performing a standard $χ^2$-minimization between theoretical expectations and growth data, we statistically quantify the ability of the growth index to represent th…
We consider the linear growth of matter perturbations on low redshifts in some $f(R)$ dark energy (DE) models. We discuss the definition of dark energy (DE) in these models and show the differences with scalar-tensor DE models. For the $f(R)$ model recently proposed by Starobinsky we show that the growth parameter $γ_0\equiv γ(z=0)$ takes the value $γ_0\simeq 0.4$ for $Ω_{m,0}=0.32$ and $γ_0\simeq 0.43$ for $Ω_{m,0}=0.23$, allowing for a clear distinction from $Λ$CDM. Though a scale-dependence appears in the growth of perturbations on higher redshifts, we find no dispersion for $γ(z)$ on low r…
We study the growth rate of matter perturbations in the context of teleparallel dark energy in a flat universe. We investigate the dynamics of different theoretical scenarios based on specific forms of the scalar field potential. Allowing for non-minimal coupling between torsion scalar and scalar field, we perform a phase-space analysis of the autonomous systems of equations through the study of critical points. We thus analyze the stability of the critical points, and discuss the cosmological implications searching for possible attractor solutions at late times. Furthermore, combing the growt…
