令$d_i(m)$表示Boros-Moll多项式的系数。摩尔最小值猜想指出序列$\{i(i+1)(d_i^2(m)-d_{i-1}(m)d_{i+1}(m))\}_{1\leq i \leq m}$以$i=m$达到其最小值。这个猜想比Kausers和Paule证明的log-loss猜想更强。本文利用序列$\{d_i(m)\}_{0\leq i \leq m}$的螺旋性质和序列$\{i!d_i(m)\}_{0\leq i \leq m}$的对数周期性证明了Moll猜想.
英文摘要:
Let $d_i(m)$ denote the coefficients of the Boros-Moll polynomials. Moll's minimum conjecture states that the sequence $\{i(i+1)(d_i^2(m)-d_{i-1}(m)d_{i+1}(m))\}_{1\leq i \leq m}$ attains its minimum with $i=m$. This conjecture is a stronger than the log-concavity conjecture proved by Kausers and Paule. We give a proof of Moll's conjecture by utilizing the spiral property of the sequence $\{d_i(m)\}_{0\leq i \leq m}$, and the log-concavity of the sequence $\{i!d_i(m)\}_{0\leq i \leq m}$.
We prove two conjectures of Brändén on the real-rootedness of polynomials $Q_n(x)$ and $R_n(x)$ which are related to the Boros-Moll polynomials $P_n(x)$. In fact, we show that both $Q_n(x)$ and $R_n(x)$ form Sturm sequences. The first conjecture implies the 2-log-concavity of $P_n(x)$, and the second conjecture implies the 3-log-concavity of $P_n(x)$.
The Boros-Moll polynomials $P_m(a)$ arise in the evaluation of a quartic integral. It has been conjectured by Boros and Moll that these polynomials are infinitely log-concave. In this paper, we show that $P_m(a)$ is 2-log-concave for any $m\geq 2$. Let $d_i(m)$ be the coefficient of $a^i$ in $P_m(a)$. We also show that the sequence $\{i (i+1)(d_i^{\,2}(m)-d_{i-1}(m)d_{i+1}(m))\}_{1\leq i \leq m}$ is log-concave. This leads another proof of Moll's minimum conjecture.
Let $a,b$ and $n$ be positive integers with $a>b$. In this note, we prove that $$(2bn+1)(2bn+3){2bn \choose bn}\bigg|3(a-b)(3a-b){2an \choose an}{an\choose bn}.$$ This confirms a recent conjecture of Amdeberhan and Moll.

The Wiener index of a connected graph is the sum of distances between all unordered pairs of vertices. Sam Spiro [The Wiener index of signed graphs, Appl. Math. Comput., 416(2022)126755] recently introduced the Wiener index for a signed graph and conjectured that the path $P_n$ with alternating signs has the minimum Wiener index among all signed trees with $n$ vertices. By constructing an infinite family of counterexamples, we prove that the conjecture is false whenever $n$ is at least 30.
Erdős, Faudree, Rousseau and Schelp observed the following fact for every fixed integer $k\geq 2$: Every graph on $n\geq k-1$ vertices with at least $(k-1)(n-k+2)+{k-2\choose 2}$ edges contains a subgraph with minimum degree at least $k$. However, there are examples in which the whole graph is the only such subgraph. Erdős et al. conjectured that having just one more edge implies the existence of a subgraph on at most $(1-\varepsilon_k)n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $k$, where $\varepsilon_k>0$ depends only on $k$. We prove this conjecture, using and extending ideas of Mousset, Noeve…
In 1981, Erdős and Simonovits conjectured that for any bipartite graph $H$ we have $\mathrm{ex}(n,H)=O(n^{3/2})$ if and only if $H$ is $2$-degenerate. Later, Erdős offered 250 dollars for a proof and 500 dollars for a counterexample. In this paper, we disprove the conjecture by finding, for any $\varepsilon>0$, a $3$-regular bipartite graph $H$ with $\mathrm{ex}(n,H)=O(n^{4/3+\varepsilon})$.
The Bermond-Thomassen conjecture states that, for any positive integer $r$, a digraph of minimum out-degree at least $2r-1$ contains at least $r$ vertex-disjoint directed cycles. In 2014, Bang-Jensen, Bessy and Thomass\' e proved the conjecture for tournaments. In 2010, Lichiardopol conjectured that a tournament $T$ with minimum out-degree at least $(q-1)r-1$ contains at least $r$ vertex-disjoint $q$-cycles, where integer $q\geq3$ and $r\geq1$. In this paper, we address Lichiardopol's conjecture affirmatively. In particular, the case $q=3$ implies Bermond-Thomassen conjecture for tournaments.
Let $G$ be a simple graph with maximum degree $Δ(G)$. A subgraph $H$ of $G$ is overfull if $|E(H)|>Δ(G)\lfloor \frac{1}{2}|V(H)| \rfloor$. Chetwynd and Hilton in 1986 conjectured that a graph $G$ with $Δ(G)>\frac{1}{3}|V(G)|$ has chromatic index $Δ(G)$ if and only if $G$ contains no overfull subgraph. Let $0<\varepsilon <1$ and $G$ be a large graph on $n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $\frac{1}{2}(1+\varepsilon)n$. It was shown that the conjecture holds for $G$ if $n$ is even. In this paper, the same result is proved if $n$ is odd. As far as we know, this is the first result on the con…
We propose a Nordhaus-Gaddum conjecture for $q(G)$, the minimum number of distinct eigenvalues of a symmetric matrix corresponding to a graph $G$: for every graph $G$ excluding four exceptions, we conjecture that $q(G)+q(G^c)\le |G|+2$, where $G^c$ is the complement of $G$. We compute $q(G^c)$ for all trees and all graphs $G$ with $q(G)=|G|-1$, and hence we verify the conjecture for trees, unicyclic graphs, graphs with $q(G)\le 4$, and for graphs with $|G|\le 7$.
Hadwiger's Conjecture states that every $K_{t+1}$-minor-free graph is $t$-colourable. It is widely considered to be one of the most important conjectures in graph theory. If every $K_{t+1}$-minor-free graph has minimum degree at most $δ$, then every $K_{t+1}$-minor-free graph is $(δ+1)$-colourable by a minimum-degree-greedy algorithm. The purpose of this note is to prove a slightly better upper bound.
We propose the following conjecture: For every fixed $α\in [0,\frac 13)$, each graph of minimum degree at least $(1+α)\frac k2$ and maximum degree at least $2(1-α)k$ contains each tree with $k$ edges as a subgraph. Our main result is an approximate version of the conjecture for bounded degree trees and large dense host graphs. We also show that our conjecture is asymptotically best possible. The proof of the approximate result relies on a second result, which we believe to be interesting on its own. Namely, we can embed any bounded degree tree into host graphs of minimum/maximum degree asympto…
A graph is $P_8$-free if it contains no induced subgraph isomorphic to the path $P_8$ on eight vertices. In 1995, Erdős and Gyárfás conjectured that every graph of minimum degree at least three contains a cycle whose length is a power of two. In this paper, we confirm the conjecture for $P_8$-free graphs by showing that there exists a cycle of length four or eight in every $P_8$-free graph with minimum degree at least three.
A special case of a conjecture by Thomassé is that any oriented graph with minimum outdegree k contains a dipath of length 2k. For the sake of proving whether or not a counterexample exists, we present reductions and establish bounds on both connectivity and the number of vertices in a counterexample. We further conjecture that in any oriented graph with minimum outdegree k, every vertex belongs to a dipath of length 2k.
Consider a simple graph $G=(V,E)$ of maximum degree $Δ$ and its proper total colouring $c$ with the elements of the set $\{1,2,\ldots,k\}$. The colouring $c$ is said to be \emph{neighbour sum distinguishing} if for every pair of adjacent vertices $u$, $v$, we have $c(u)+\sum_{e\ni u}c(e)\neq c(v)+\sum_{e\ni v}c(e)$. The least integer $k$ for which it exists is denoted by $χ"_{\sum}(G)$, hence $χ"_{\sum}(G) \geq Δ+1$. On the other hand, it has been daringly conjectured that just one more label than presumed in the famous Total Colouring Conjecture suffices to construct such total colouring $c$,…
Balogh, Barát, Gerbner, Gyárfás, and Sárközy proposed the following conjecture. Let $G$ be a graph on $n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $3n/4$. Then for every $2$-edge-colouring of $G$, the vertex set $V(G)$ may be partitioned into two vertex-disjoint cycles, one of each colour. We prove that this conjecture holds for $n$ large enough, improving approximate results by the aforementioned authors and by DeBiasio and Nelsen.
Milgram constructed a 28-vertex cubic graph of genus 4 that disproved Duke's conjecture relating Betti number to minimum genus. We apply Milgram's method to construct to find graphs of higher genus violating Duke's conjecture, which gives a sharper bound on that relationship. These graphs are also counterexamples to a related conjecture of Nordhaus et al. on the relationship between minimum and maximum genera of graphs. As a side note, we give a simpler proof of correctness for Milgram's method and we show that Duke's conjecture is true for genus at most 3.
Lehel conjectured that in every $2$-coloring of the edges of $K_n$, there is a vertex disjoint red and blue cycle which span $V(K_n)$. Łuczak, Rödl, and Szemerédi proved Lehel's conjecture for large $n$, Allen gave a different proof for large $n$, and finally Bessy and Thomassé gave a proof for all $n$. Balogh, Barát, Gerbner, Gyárfás, and Sárközy proposed a significant strengthening of Lehel's conjecture where $K_n$ is replaced by any graph $G$ with $δ(G)> 3n/4$; if true, this minimum degree condition is essentially best possible. We prove that their conjecture holds when $δ(G)>(3/4+o(1))n$. …
The vertex (resp. edge) metric dimension of a connected graph G; denoted by dim(G) (resp. edim(G)), is defined as the size of a smallest set S in V (G) which distinguishes all pairs of vertices (resp. edges) in G: Bounds dim(G) <= L(G)+2c(G) and edim(G) <= L(G) + 2c(G); where c(G) is the cyclomatic number in G and L(G) depends on the number of leaves in G, are known to hold for cacti and are conjectured to hold for general graphs. In leafless graphs it holds that L(G) = 0; so for such graphs the conjectured upper bound becomes 2c(G). In this paper, we show that the bound 2c(G) cannot be attain…
A coprime labeling of a graph $G$ is a labeling of the vertices of $G$ with distinct integers from $1$ to $k$ such that adjacent vertices have coprime labels. The minimum coprime number of $G$ is the least $k$ for which such a labeling exists. In this paper, we determine the minimum coprime number for several well-studied classes of graphs, including the coronas of complete graphs with empty graphs and the joins of two paths. In particular, we resolve a conjecture of Seoud, El Sonbaty, and Mahran and two conjectures of Asplund and Fox. We also provide an asymptotic for the minimum coprime numb…
Let $G$ be a simple graph with maximum degree $Δ(G)$. A subgraph $H$ of $G$ is overfull if $|E(H)|>Δ(G)\lfloor |V(H)|/2 \rfloor$. Chetwynd and Hilton in 1985 conjectured that a graph $G$ with $Δ(G)>|V(G)|/3$ has chromatic index $Δ(G)$ if and only if $G$ contains no overfull subgraph. The 1-factorization conjecture is a special case of this overfull conjecture, which states that for even $n$, every regular $n$-vertex graph with degree at least about $n/2$ has a 1-factorization and was confirmed for large graphs in 2014. Supporting the overfull conjecture as well as generalizing the 1-factorizat…
We say that a (di)graph $G$ has a perfect $H$-packing if there exists a set of vertex-disjoint copies of $H$ which cover all the vertices in $G$. The seminal Hajnal--Szemerédi theorem characterises the minimum degree that ensures a graph $G$ contains a perfect $K_r$-packing. In this paper we prove the following analogue for directed graphs: Suppose that $T$ is a tournament on $r$ vertices and $G$ is a digraph of sufficiently large order $n$ where $r$ divides $n$. If $G$ has minimum in- and outdegree at least $ (1-1/r)n$ then $G$ contains a perfect $T$-packing. In the case when $T$ is a cyclic …

In this paper, we prove a tight minimum degree condition in general graphs for the existence of paths between two given endpoints, whose lengths form a long arithmetic progression with common difference one or two. This allows us to obtain a number of exact and optimal results on cycle lengths in graphs of given minimum degree, connectivity or chromatic number. More precisely, we prove the following statements by a unified approach. (1) Every graph $G$ with minimum degree at least $k+1$ contains cycles of all even lengths modulo $k$; in addition, if $G$ is 2-connected and non-bipartite, then i…
The distinguishing index of a simple graph $G$, denoted by $D'(G)$, is the least number of labels in an edge labeling of $G$ not preserved by any non-trivial automorphism. It was conjectured by Pilśniak (2015) that for any 2-connected graph $D'(G) \leq \lceil \sqrt{Δ(G)}\rceil +1$. We prove a more general result for the distinguishing index of graphs with minimum degree at least two from which the conjecture follows. Also we present graphs $G$ for which $D'(G)\leq \lceil \sqrt{Δ}\rceil$.
Partitioning the edges of a graph into edge disjoint triangles forms a triangle decomposition of the graph. A famous conjecture by Nash-Williams from 1970 asserts that any sufficiently large, triangle divisible graph on $n$ vertices with minimum degree at least $0.75 n$ admits a triangle decomposition. In the light of recent results, the fractional version of this problem is of central importance. A fractional triangle decomposition is an assignment of non-negative weights to each triangle in a graph such that the sum of the weights along each edge is precisely 1. We show that for any graph on…
We prove a new upper bound for the minimum $d$-degree threshold for perfect matchings in $k$-uniform hypergraphs when $d<k/2$. As a consequence, this determines exact values of the threshold when $0.42k \le d < k/2$ or when $(k,d)=(12,5)$ or $(17,7)$. Our approach is to give an upper bound on the Erdős Matching Conjecture and convert the result to the minimum $d$-degree setting by an approach of Kühn, Osthus and Townsend. To obtain exact thresholds, we also apply a result of Treglown and Zhao.
A simple graph more often than not contains adjacent vertices with equal degrees. This in particular holds for all pairs of neighbours in regular graphs, while a lot such pairs can be expected e.g. in many random models. Is there a universal constant $K$, say $K=3$, such that one may always dispose of such pairs from any given connected graph with at least three vertices by blowing its selected edges into at most $K$ parallel edges? This question was first posed in 2004 by Karoński, Łuczak and Thomason, who equivalently asked if one may assign weights $1,2,3$ to the edges of every such graph s…
The \emph{minimum leaf number} $\hbox{ml} (G)$ of a connected graph $G$ is defined as the minimum number of leaves of the spanning trees of $G$. We present new results concerning the minimum leaf number of cubic graphs: we show that if $G$ is a connected cubic graph of order $n$, then $\mathrm{ml}(G) \leq \frac{n}6 + \frac13$, improving on the best known result in [Inf. Process. Lett. 105 (2008) 164-169] and proving the conjecture in [Electron. J. Graph Theory and Applications 5 (2017) 207-211]. We further prove that if $G$ is also 2-connected, then $\mathrm{ml}(G) \leq \frac{n}{6.53}$, improv…
Let F be a finite union-closed family of sets whose largest set contains n elements. In \cite{Wojcik92}, Wojcik defined the density of F to be the ratio of the average set size of F to n and conjectured that the minimum density over all union-closed families whose largest set contains n elements is (1 + o(1))\log_2(n)/(2n) as n approaches infinity. We use a result of Reimer \cite{Reimer03} to show that the density of F is always at least log_2(n)/(2n), verifying Wojcik's conjecture. As a corollary we show that for n \geq 16, some element must appear in at least \sqrt{(\log_2(n))/n}(|F|/2) sets…
A particular case of Caccetta-Häggkvist conjecture, says that a digraph of order $n$ with minimum out-degree at least $1/3n$ contains a directed cycle of length at most 3. Recently, Kral, Hladky and Norine proved that a digraph of order $n$ with minimum out-degree at least $0.3465n$ contains a directed cycle of length at most 3 (which currently is the best result). A weaker particular case says that a digraph of order $n$ with minimum semi-degree at least $1/3n$ contains a directed triangle. In a recent paper, by using the result of Kral et al, the author proved that for $β\geq 0.343545$, any …
