We correspond to any factor algebra of the unitriangular Lie algebra with respect to a regular ideal some permutation. In terms of this permutation one can construct a diagram, that allows to calculate index and maximal dimension of coadjoint representation.
We study coadjoint orbitopes, i.e. convex hulls of coadjoint orbits of a compact Lie group. We show that all the faces of such an orbitope are exposed. The face structure is studied by means of the momentum map and it is shown that every face is again a coadjoint orbitope. Up to conjugation the faces are completely determined by the momentum polytope and can be described in a simple way in terms of root data. Finally we consider the complex geometry of the coadjoint orbit and we prove that the submanifolds of the orbit that are extreme sets of a face are exactly the closed orbits of parabolic …
In the paper we study the coadjoint orbits of the group $\mathrm{UT}(n,K)$ associated with involutions. We obtain a formula for dimension of the orbit. We construct a polarization for the canonical element of orbit. We find a system of generators in the defining ideal of orbit.
The purpose of this paper is to apply deformation quantization to the study of the coadjoint orbit method in the case of real reductive groups. We first prove some general results on the existence of equivariant deformation quantization of vector bundles on closed Lagrangian subvarieties, which lie in smooth symplectic varieties with Hamiltonian group actions. Then we apply them to orbit method and construct nontrivial irreducible Harish-Chandra modules for certain coadjoint orbits. Our examples include new geometric construction of representations associated to certain orbits of real exceptio…
I give an answer to the question ``Which groups have compact coadjoint orbits?''. Whilst I thought that the answer, which is straightforward, must be in the literature, I was unable to find it. This note aims to rectify this. It is also a plea: If the result is already published then I would like to be told the reference.
The purpose of this paper is to bring together various loose ends in the theory of integrable systems. For a semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$, we obtain several results on completeness of homogeneous Poisson-commutative subalgebras of ${\mathcal S}(\mathfrak g)$ on coadjoint orbits. This concerns, in particular, Mishchenko-Fomenko and Gelfand-Tsetlin subalgebras.
Consider the restriction of an irreducible unitary representation $π$ of a Lie group $G$ to its subgroup $H$. Kirillov's revolutionary idea on the orbit method suggests that the multiplicity of an irreducible $H$-module $ν$ occurring in the restriction $π|_H$ could be read from the coadjoint action of $H$ on $O^G \cap pr^{-1}(O^H)$ provided $π$ and $ν$ are "geometric quantizations" of a $G$-coadjoint orbit $O^G$ and an $H$-coadjoint orbit $O^H$,respectively, where $pr: \sqrt{-1} g^{\ast} \to \sqrt{-1} h^{\ast}$ is the projection dual to the inclusion $h \subset g$ of Lie algebras. Such results…
Consider a compact Lie group and a closed subgroup. Generalizing a result of Klyachko, we give a necessary and sufficient criterion for a coadjoint orbit of the subgroup to be contained in the projection of a given coadjoint orbit of the ambient group. The criterion is couched in terms of the ``relative'' Schubert calculus of the flag varieties of the two groups.
We present the classification of coadjoint orbits of the unitriangular group $UT(7, K)$. We also describe subregular orbits of $UT(n, K)$ for an arbitrary $n$.
Coadjoint orbits and multiplicity free spaces of compact Lie groups are important examples of symplectic manifolds with Hamiltonian groups actions. Constructing action-angle variables on these spaces is a challenging task. A fundamental result in the field is the Guillemin-Sternberg construction of Gelfand-Zeitlin integrable systems for the groups $K=U(n), SO(n)$. Extending these results to groups of other types is one of the goals of this paper. Partial tropicalizations are Poisson spaces with constant Poisson bracket built using techniques of Poisson-Lie theory and the geometric crystals of …
We present a one-to-one correspondence between equivalence classes of unitary irreducible representations and coadjoint orbits for a class of pro-Lie groups including all connected locally compact nilpotent groups and arbitrary infinite direct products of nilpotent Lie groups.
In this article we describe the coadjoint orbits of SL(2,$\mathbb R$). After choosing polarizations for each orbits, we pointed out the corresponding quantum coadjoint orbits and therefore unitary representations of SL(2,$\mathbb R$) via deformation quantization.
The main result of this paper is an explicit formula for the Fourier transform of the canonical measure on a nilpotent coadjoint orbit for GL(n,R). This paper also includes some results on limit formulas for reductive Lie groups including new proofs of classical limit formulas of Rao and Harish-Chandra.
We show that the numbers of nilpotent coadjoint orbits in the dual of exceptional Lie algebra $G_2$ in characteristic $3$ and in the dual of exceptional Lie algebra $F_4$ in characteristic $2$ are finite. We determine the closure relation among nilpotent coadjoint orbits in the dual of Lie algebras of type $B,C,F_4$ in characteristic $2$ and in the dual of Lie algebra of type $G_2$ in characteristic $3$. In each case we give an explicit description of the nilpotent pieces in the dual defined in \cite{CP}, which are in general unions of nilpotent coadjoint orbits, coincide with the earlier case…
A complete description of the coadjoint orbits for A_{n-1}^{+}, the nilpotent Lie algebra of n-by-n strictly upper triangular matrices, has not yet been obtained, though there has been steady progress on it ever since the orbit method was devised. We apply methods developed by Andre' to find defining equations for the elementary coadjoint orbits for the maximal nilpotent Lie subalgebras of the orthogonal Lie algebras, and we also determine all the possible dimensions of coadjoint orbits in the case of A_{n-1}^{+}.
In this paper I explore the relationship between regular functions associated to local systems on nilpotent orbits and unipotent representations in the complex groups.
Invariant star products are constructed on minimal coadjoint orbits of all the simple Lie algebras. Explicit expressions are given for the generators of the Joseph ideals and the associated infinitesimal characters.
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a finite-dimensional real or complex Lie algebra, and let $μ\in \mathfrak{g}^{*}$. In the first part of the paper, the relation is discussed between the derived algebra of the stabilizer of $μ$ and the set of coadjoint orbits which have the same dimension as the orbit of $μ$. In the second part, semisimple Lie algebras are considered, and the relation is discussed between the derived algebra of a centralizer and sheets.
In this paper we construct quantum analogs of strata of coadjoint orbits and describe their representations. This kind objects play an important role in describing quantum groups as repeated extensions of quantum strata.
We study the coadjoint orbits of the noncentrally extended (1+1)-affine Galilei group and compute the relevant Wigner functions built on them explicitly. We consider the centrally extended (1+1)-Galilei group and study its coadjoint orbits in the second half of the paper. We also compute the Wigner functions built on the corresponding coadjoint orbits subsequently. Finally, a comparative study of the structure of the coadjoint orbits and corresponding Wigner functions between the extended (1+1)-affine Galilei group and the centrally extended (1+1)-Galilei group is presented along with possible…
Nilpotent Lie groups with stepwise square integrable representations were recently investigated by J.A.~Wolf. We give an alternative approach to these representations by relating them to the stratifications of the duals of nilpotent Lie algebras, thus proving that they correspond to a subset with relative Hausdorff topology, dense interior, and total Plancherel measure in the unitary dual of the Lie group under consideration.
Let {\Lnk} be the class of all $n$-dimensional real solvable Lie algebras having $k$-dimensional derived ideals. In 2020 the authors et al. gave a classification of all non 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras of {\Li}. We propose in this paper to study representations of these Lie algebras as well as their corresponding connected and simply connected Lie groups. That is, for each algebra, we give an upper bound of the minimal degree of a faithful representation. Then, we give a geometrical description of coadjoint orbits of corresponding groups. Moreover, we show that the characteristic property of …
A connected algebraic group Q defined over a field of characteristic zero is quasi-reductive if there is an element of its dual of reductive type, that is such that the quotient of its stabiliser by the centre of Q is a reductive subgroup of GL(q), where q=Lie(Q). Due to results of M. Duflo, coadjoint representation of a quasi-reductive Q possesses a so called maximal reductive stabiliser and knowing this subgroup, defined up to a conjugation in Q, one can describe all coadjoint orbits of reductive type. In this paper, we consider quasi-reductive parabolic subalgebras of simple complex Lie alg…
We prove that there exists a geometric bijection between the sets of adjoint and coadjoint orbits of a semidirect product, provided a similar bijection holds for particular subgroups. We also show that under certain conditions the homotopy types of any two orbits in bijection with each other are the same. We apply our theory to the examples of the affine group and the Poincaré group, and discuss the limitations and extent of this result to other groups.
We describe boundedness and compactness properties for the operators obtained by the Weyl-Pedersen calculus in the case of the irreducible unitary representations of nilpotent Lie groups that are associated with flat coadjoint orbits. We use spaces of smooth symbols satisfying appropriate growth conditions expressed in terms of invariant differential operators on the coadjoint orbit under consideration. Our method also provides conditions for these operators to belong to one of the Schatten ideals of compact operators. In the special case of the Schrödinger representation of the Heisenberg gro…
Let $Φ$ be a classical root system and $k$ be a field of sufficiently large characteristic. Let $G$ be the classical group over $k$ with the root system $Φ$, $U$ be its maximal unipotent subgroup and $\mathfrak{u}$ be the Lie algebra of $U$. Let $D$ be an orthogonal subset of $Φ$ and $Ω$ be a coadjoint orbit of $U$ associated with $D$. We construct a polarization of $\mathfrak{u}$ at the canonical form on $Ω$. We also find the dimension of $Ω$ in terms of the Weyl group of $Φ$. As a corollary, we determine all possible dimensions of irreducible complex represenations of the group $U$ for the c…
We construct by geometric methods a noncommutative model E of the algebra of regular functions on the universal (2-fold) cover M of certain nilpotent coadjoint orbits O for a complex simple Lie algebra g. Here O is the dense orbit in the cotangent bundle of the generalized flag variety X associated to a complexified Cartan decomposition g=(p^+)+k+(p^-) where p^+- are Jordan algebras by the TKK construction. We obtain E as the algebra of g-finite differential operators on a smooth Lagrangian subvariety in M where g is given by differential operators twisted according to a critical parameter. Af…
We determine the space of primary ideals in the group algebra $L^1(G)$ of a connected nilpotent Lie group by identifying for every $π\in\hat G $ the family ${\mathcal I}^π$ of primary ideals with hull $\{π\}$ with the family of invariant polynomials of a certain finite dimensional subspace ${\mathcal P}_Q^π$ of the space of polynomials ${\mathcal P}(G) $ on $G $.
Orbits of coadjoint representations of classical compact Lie groups have a lot of applications. They appear in representation theory, geometrical quantization, theory of magnetism, quantum optics etc. As geometric objects the orbits were the subject of much study. However, they remain hard for calculation and application. We propose simple solutions for the following problems: an explicit parameterization of the orbit by means of a generalized stereographic projection, obtaining a Kählerian structure on the orbit, introducing basis two-forms for the cohomology group of the orbit.
Deformation quantization and geometric quantization on Kähler manifolds give the mathematical description of the algebra of quantum observables and the Hilbert spaces respectively, where the later forms a representation of quantum observables asymptotically via Toeplitz operators. When there is a Hamiltonian $G$-action on a Kähler manifold, there are associated symmetries on both the quantum algebra and representation aspects. We show that in nice cases of coadjoint orbits and Kähler-Einstein manifolds, these symmetries are strictly compatible (not only asymptotically).
Kirillov's orbit theory provides a powerful tool for the investigation of irreducible unitary representations of many classes of Lie groups. In a previous paper we used a modification hereof, called monomial linearisation, to construct a monomial basis of the regular representation of $p$-Sylow subgroups $U$ of the finite classical groups of untwisted type. In this sequel to this article we determine the stabilizers of special orbit generators and show, that for the groups of Lie type ${\mathfrak{B}}_n$ and ${\mathfrak{D}}_n$ a subclass of the orbit modules decompose the $U$-modules affording …
Let $G$ be a complex simply-connected semisimple Lie group and let $\frak{g}= Lie G$. Let $\frak{g} = \frak{n}_- +\frak{h} + \frak{n}$ be a triangular decomposition of $\frak{g}$. One readily has that $Cent\,U({\frak n})$ is isomorphic to the ring $S({\frak n})^{\frak\n}$ of symmetric invariants. Using the cascade ${\cal B}$ of strongly orthogonal roots, some time ago we proved that $S({\frak n})^{{\frak n}$ is a polynomial ring $\Bbb C [ξ_1,...,ξ_m]$ where $m$ is the cardinality of ${\cal B}$. Using this result we establish that the maximal coadjoint of $N = exp \frak {n}$ has codimension $m$…
A unitary representation of a, possibly infinite dimensional, Lie group G is called semi-bounded if the corresponding operators idπ(x) from the derived representations are uniformly bounded from above on some non-empty open subset of the Lie algebra g. Not every Lie group has non-trivial semibounded unitary representations, so that it becomes an important issue to decide when this is the case. In the present paper we describe a complete solution of this problem for the class of generalized oscillator groups, which are semidirect products of Heisenberg groups with a one-parameter group γ. For t…
Let G_R be a Lie group acting on an oriented manifold M, and let $ω$ be an equivariantly closed form on M. If both G_R and M are compact, then the integral $\int_M ω$ is given by the fixed point integral localization formula (Theorem 7.11 in [BGV]). Unfortunately, this formula fails when the acting Lie group G_R is not compact: there simply may not be enough fixed points present. A proposed remedy is to modify the action of G_R in such a way that all fixed points are accounted for. Let G_R be a real semisimple Lie group, possibly noncompact. One of the most important examples of equivariantly …
Let $G$ be a complex simply-connected semisimple Lie group and let $\frak{g}= Lie G$. Let $\frak{g} = \frak{n}_- +\frak{h} + \frak{n}$ be a triangular decomposition of $\frak{g}$. Let $G$ be a semisimple Lie group and let $\g =\n_- +\hh +\n$ be a triangular decomposition of $\g= \hbox{Lie}\,G$. Let $\b =\hh +\n$ and let $H,N,B$ be Lie subgroups of $G$ corresponding respectively to $\hh,\n$ and $\b$. We may identify $\n_-$ with the dual space to $\n$. The coadjoint action of $N$ on $\n_-$ extends to an action of $B$ on $\n_-$. There exists a unique nonempty Zariski open orbit $X$ of $B$ on $\n_-$. Any $N$-orbit in $X$ is a maximal coadjoint orbit of $N$ in $\n_-$. The cascade of orthogonal roots defines a cross-section $\r_-^{\times}$ of the set of such orbits leading to…
We study the adjoint and coadjoint representations of a class of Lie group including the Euclidean group. Despite the fact that these representations are not in general isomorphic, we show that there is a geometrically defined bijection between the sets of adjoint and coadjoint orbits of such groups. In addition, we show that the corresponding orbits, although different, are homotopy equivalent. We also provide a geometric description of the adjoint and coadjoint orbits of the Euclidean and orthogonal groups as a special class of flag manifold which we call a Hermitian flag manifold. These man…
In this paper, we develop the fundamentals of Lie-Poisson theory for direct limits $G=\dirlim G_{n}$ of complex algebraic groups $G_{n}$ and their Lie algebras $\fg=\dirlim \fg_{n}$. We show that $\fg^{*}=\invlim\fg_{n}^{*}$ has the structure of a Poisson provariety and that each coadjoint orbit of $G$ on $\fg^{*}$ has the structure of an ind-variety. We construct a weak symplectic form on every coadjoint orbit and prove that the coadjoint orbits form a weak symplectic foliation of the Poisson provariety $\fg^{*}$. We apply our results to the specific setting of $G=GL(\infty)=\dirlim GL(n,\C)$…
Let $G$ be a simply connected, nilpotent Lie group with Lie algebra $\gee$. The group $G$ acts on the dual space $\gee^*$ by the coadjoint action. %% which partitions $\gee^*$ into coadjoint orbits. By the orbit method of Kirillov, the simple unitary representations of $G$ are in bijective correspondence with the coadjoint orbits in $\gee^*$, which in turn are in bijective correspondence with the primitive ideals of the universal enveloping algebra of $\gee$. The number of simple $\gee$-modules which have a common eigenvector for a particular subalgebra of $\gee$ and are annihilated by a parti…
