The gravitational energy-momentum within a small region as determined by two tetrad-teleparallel expressions is evaluated with the aid of an orthonormal frame adapted to Riemann normal coordinates. We find that the gauge current "tensor" does enjoy the highly desired and rare property of being a positive multiple of the Bel-Robinson tensor, whereas Møller's expression does not.
A study of proper teleparallel conformal vector field in spherically symmetric static space-times is given using the direct integration technique and diagonal tetrads. In this study we show that the above space-times do not admit proper teleparallel conformal vector fields.
An exact solution has an axial symmetry is obtained in the teleparallel theory of gravitation. The associated metric has the structure function G(xi)=1-xi^2-2mA(xi)^3. The cubic nature of the structure function can make calculations cumbersome. Using a coordinate transformation we get a tetrad that its associated metric has the structure function in a factorisable form. This new form has the advantage that its roots are now trivial to write down. The singularities of the obtained tetrad are studied. Using another coordinate transformation we get a tetrad that its associated metric gives the Sc…
The teleparallel version of Lewis-Papapetrou space-time is investigated. For this space-time the true discussion of the geometric and physical properties is given. We show that the value of space-like torsion-axial vector does not depend on the choice of tetrad field. Consequently, the spin procession of the Dirac particle and the corresponding Hamiltonian do. The energy and momentum densities for such space-time are calculated. We show that when choosing two sets of tetrad fields the dependence and independence of the aforementioned quantities on the tetrad field depend on the Lorentz factor,…
We apply the energy-momentum tensor to calculate energy, momentum and angular-momentum of two different tetrad fields. This tensor is coordinate independent of the gravitational field established in the Hamiltonian structure of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity (TEGR). The spacetime of these tetrad fields is the charged dilaton. Our results show that the energy associated with one of these tetrad fields is consistent, while the other one does not show this consistency. Therefore, we use the regularized expression of the gravitational energy-momentum tensor of the TEGR. We inves…
The restoration of spin connection clarifies the long known local Lorentz invariance problem in telelparallel gravities. It is considered now that any tetrad together with the associated spin connection can be equally utilized. Among the tetrads there is a particular one, namely proper tetrad, in which all the spurious inertial effects are removed and the spin connection vanishes. A specific tetrad was proposed in the literature for spherically symmetric cases, which has been used in regularizing the action, as well as in searching solutions in various scenarios. We show in this paper that the…
The Hamiltonian formulation of general relativity on a null surface is established in the teleparallel geometry. No particular gauge conditons on the tetrads are imposed, such as the time gauge condition. By means of a 3+1 decomposition the resulting Hamiltonian arises as a completely constrained system. However, it is structurally different from the the standard Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) type formulation. In this geometrical framework the basic field quantities are tetrads that transform under the global SO(3,1) and the torsion tensor.
We show that the Kerr-Schild ansatz can be extended from the metric to the tetrad, and then to teleparallel gravity where curvature vanishes but torsion does not. We derive the equations of motion for the Kerr-Schild null vector, and describe the solution for a rotating black hole in this framework. It is shown that the solution depends on the chosen tetrad in a non-trivial way if the spin connection is fixed to be the one of the flat background spacetime. We show furthermore that any Kerr-Schild solution with a flat background is also a solution of $f(\mathcal{T})$ gravity.
We give three different spherically symmetric spacetimes for the coupled gravitational and electromagnetic fields with charged source in the tetrad theory of gravitation. One of these, contains an arbitrary function and generates the others. These spacetimes give the Reissner Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m metric black hole. We then, calculated the energy associated with these spacetimes using the superpotential method. We find that unless the time-space components of the tetrad field go to zero faster than ${1/\sqrt{r}}$ at infinity, one gets different results for the energy.
The energy-momentum tensor, which is coordinate independent, is used to calculate energy, momentum and angular-momentum of two different tetrad fields. Although, the two tetrad fields reproduce the same space-time their energies are different. Therefore, a regularized expression of the gravitational energy-momentum tensor of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity, (TEGR), is used to make the energies of the two tetrad fields equal. The definition of the gravitational energy-momentum is used to investigate the energy within the external event horizon. The components of angular-moment…
An exact charged solution with axial symmetry is obtained in the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity (TEGR). The associated metric has the structure function $G(ξ)=1-ξ^2-2mAξ^3-q^2A^2ξ^4$. The fourth order nature of the structure function can make calculations cumbersome. Using a coordinate transformation we get a tetrad whose metric has the structure function in a factorisable form $(1-ξ^2)(1+r_{+}Aξ)(1+r_{-}Aξ)$ with $r_{\pm}$ as the horizons of Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m space-time. This new form has the advantage that its roots are now trivial to write down. Then, we study the s…
The expression of the gravitational energy-momentum defined in the context of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity is extended to an arbitrary set of real-valued tetrad fields, by adding a suitable reference space subtraction term. The characterization of tetrad fields as reference frames is addressed in the context of the Kerr space-time. It is also pointed out that Einstein's version of the principle of equivalence does not preclude the existence of a definition for the gravitational energy-momentum density.
This work generalizes the treatment of flat spin connections in the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity. It is shown that a general flat spin connection form a subspace in the affine space of spin connections which is dynamically decoupled from the tetrad and the matter fields. A translation in the affine subspace introduces a torsion term without changing the tetrad. Instead, the change in the torsion is related to the introduction of a global acceleration field term that introduces Lorentz inertial effects in the reference frame. The dynamics of the gravitationally coupled matter f…
The quadratic spinor Lagrangian is shown to be equivalent to the teleparallel / tetrad representation of Einstein's theory. An important consequence is that the energy-momentum density obtained from this quadratic spinor Lagrangian is essentially the same as the ``tensor'' proposed by Moller in 1961.
We consider the variational principle in the covariant formulation of modified teleparallel theories with second order field equations. We vary the action with respect to the spin connection and obtain a consistency condition relating the spin connection with the tetrad. We argue that since the spin connection can be calculated using an additional reference tetrad, modified teleparallel theories can be interpreted as effectively bigravity theories. We conclude with discussion about the relation of our results and those obtained in the usual, non-covariant, formulation of teleparallel theories …
We analyze the construction of conformal theories of gravity in the realm of teleparallel theories. We first present a family of conformal theories which are quadratic in the torsion tensor and are constructed out of the tetrad field and of a scalar field. For a particular value of a coupling constant, and in the gauge where the scalar field is restricted to assume a constant value, the theory reduces to the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity, and the tetrad field satisfies Einstein's equations. A second theory is formulated out of the tetrad field only, and is not equivalent to the…
Two spherically symmetric, static Lorentzian wormholes are obtained in tetrad theory of gravitation as a solution of the equation $ρ=ρ_t=0$, where $ρ=T_{ij}u^iu^j, ρ_t=(T_{ij}-{1/2}Tg_{ij})u^iu^j$ and $u^iu_i=-1$. This equation characterizes a class of spacetime which are "self-dual" (in the sense of electrogravity duality). The obtained solutions are characterized by two-parameters $k_1, k_2$ and have a common property that they reproduce the same metric spacetime. This metric is the static Lorentzian wormhole and it includes the Schwarzschild black hole. Calculating the energy content of the…
We describe the fully gauge invariant cosmological perturbation equations in teleparallel gravity by using the gauge covariant version of the Stewart lemma for obtaining the variations in tetrad perturbations. In teleparallel theory, perturbations are the result of small fluctuations in the tetrad field. The tetrad transforms as a vector in both its holonomic and anholonomic indices. As a result, in the gauge invariant formalism, physical degrees of freedom are those combinations of perturbation parameters which remain invariant under a diffeomorphism in the coordinate frame, followed by an ar…
Teleparallel gravity theories employ a tetrad and a Lorentz spin connection as independent variables in their covariant formulation. In order to solve their field equations, it is helpful to search for solutions which exhibit certain amounts of symmetry, such as spherical or cosmological symmetry. In this article we present how to apply the notion of spacetime symmetries known from Cartan geometry to teleparallel geometries. We explicitly derive the most general tetrads and spin connections which are compatible with axial, spherical, cosmological and maximal symmetry. For homogeneous and isotr…
In the context of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity, we obtain the tetrad and the torsion fields of the stationary axisymmetric Kerr spacetime. It is shown that, in the slow rotation and weak field approximations, the axial-vector torsion plays the role of the gravitomagnetic component of the gravitational field, and is thus the responsible for the Lense-Thirring effect.
We apply the energy-momentum tensor which is coordinate independent to calculate the energy content of the axisymmetric solutions. Our results are compared with what have been obtained before within the framework of Einstein general relativity and Møler's tetrad theory of gravitation.
We calculate the total energy of an exact spherically symmetric solutions, i.e., Schwarzschild and Reissner Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m, using the gravitational energy-momentum 3-form within the tetrad formulation of general relativity. We explain how the effect of the inertial makes the total energy unphysical! Therefore, we use the covariant teleparallel approach which makes the energy always physical one. We also show that the inertial has no effect on the calculation of momentum.
An exact solution is obtained in the tetrad theory of gravitation. This solution is characterized by two-parameters $k_1, k_2$ of spherically symmetric static Lorentzian wormhole which is obtained as a solution of the equation $ρ=ρ_t=0$ with $ρ=T_{i,j}u^iu^j$, $ρ_t=(T_{ij}-\displaystyle{1 \over 2}Tg_{ij}) u^iu^j$ where $u^iu_i=-1$. From this solution which contains an arbitrary function we can generates the other two solutions obtained before. The associated metric of this spacetime is a static Lorentzian wormhole and it includes the Schwarzschild black hole, a family of naked singularity and …
We discuss linear perturbations of the most general class of teleparallel spacetimes with cosmological symmetry, and perform a decomposition of these perturbations into irreducible components. We then study their behavior under gauge transformations, i.e., infinitesimal diffeomorphisms of the background spacetime, and derive a full set of gauge-invariant perturbation variables. Comparing our results with perturbations around the diagonal tetrad corresponding to a spatially flat teleparallel background cosmology, we see the appearance of new terms which depend on the particular choice of a cosm…
Tetrad field, with two unknown functions of radial coordinate and an angle $Φ$ which is the polar angle $ϕ$ times a function of the redial coordinate, is applied to the field equation of modified theory of gravity. Exact vacuum solution is derived whose scalar torsion, $T ={T^α}_{μν} {S_α}^{μν}$, is constant. When the angle $Φ$ coincides with the polar angle $ϕ$, the derived solution will be a solution only for linear form of $f(T)$ gravitational theory.
The field equations of a special class of teleparallel theory of gravitation and electromagnetic fields have been applied to tetrad space having cylindrical symmetry with four unknown functions of radial coordinate $r$ and azimuth angle $θ$. The vacuum stress-energy momentum tensor with one assumption concerning its specific form generates one non-trivial exact analytic solution. This solution is characterized by a constant magnetic field parameter $B_0$. If $B_0=0$ then, the solution will reduces to the flat spacetime. The energy content is calculated using the superpotential given in the fra…
In this paper, working in a Friedman-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW), first, in the flat case, we recover the generalized Friedman equation of Quantum Loop cosmology, and therefore the cosmological bounce, in the framework of modified teleparallel gravity $f(T)$-model, $T$ being the torsion scalar introduced in teleparallel gravity approach, without invoking unconventional exotic matter. Furthermore we study the associated perturbations again in a flat FLRW space-time. Then, we generalize the results to the curved FLRW space-time, where some issues related to the choice of tetrad exist, by us…
Using the Dirac procedure to treat constraints dynamical sistems applied to gravitation, as described in the context of Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity (TEGR), we investigate, from the first class constraints, the gauge transformations in the fundamental field: the components of tetrads. We have shown that there is no an isotropy in physical space with respect to gauge transformations, i.e., given an arbitrary gravitational field, coming from a gauge transformation in the internal space, physical space reacts differently in the spatial and temporal components. By making an approp…
In this work a tetrad theory of gravity, invariant under conformal transformations, is investigated. The action of the theory is similar to the action of Maxwell's electromagnetism. The role of the electromagnetic gauge potential is played by the trace of the torsion tensor of the Weitzenböck spacetime. It is shown that all static, spherically symmetric space-times, are solutions of the vacuum field equations. However, by fixing the gauge in the linearized form of the vacuum field equations, the usual Newtonian limit for the gravitational field is obtained.
We study the variational principle and derivation of the field equations for different classes of teleparallel gravity theories, using both their metric-affine and covariant tetrad formulations. These theories have in common that in addition to the tetrad or metric, they employ a flat connection as additional field variable, but differ by the presence of absence of torsion and nonmetricity for this independent connection. Besides the different underlying geometric formulation using a tetrad or metric as fundamental field variable, one has different choices to introduce the conditions of vanish…
A review of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity is presented. It is emphasized that general relativity may be formulated in terms of the tetrad fields and of the torsion tensor, and that this geometrical formulation leads to alternative insights into the theory. The equivalence with the standard formulation in terms of the metric and curvature tensors takes place at the level of field equations. The review starts with a brief account of the history of teleparallel theories of gravity. Then the ordinary interpretation of the tetrad fields as reference frames adapted to arbitrary o…
The main result of the paper is a new representation for the Weyl Lagrangian (massless Dirac Lagrangian). As the dynamical variable we use the coframe, i.e. an orthonormal tetrad of covector fields. We write down a simple Lagrangian - wedge product of axial torsion with a lightlike element of the coframe - and show that this gives the Weyl Lagrangian up to a nonlinear change of dynamical variable. The advantage of our approach is that it does not require the use of spinors, Pauli matrices or covariant differentiation. The only geometric concepts we use are those of a metric, differential form,…
In this article we explore local Lorentz transformations in theories of gravity based on the teleparallel formalism. For the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity (TEGR), the spin connection plays no role in the equations of motion, and therefore it is possible to simply put it equal to zero with no change in physical quantities, and then the theory is formulated purely in terms of the tetrad field which can be freely chosen in any way. In nonlinear modifications of TEGR, this is a more intricate issue, and vanishing spin connection is then the Weitzenböck gauge choice which imposes re…
The possibility of static and spherically symmetric traversable wormhole solution in modified teleparallel Rastall gravity (MTRG) in a non-diagonal tetrad is investigated. Rastall assumption modifies the field equations and energy-momentum conservation law. These modifications lead to different exact asymptotically flat traversable wormhole solutions. By imposing different constraints on modified energy-momentum conservation law, different exact solutions are found and the obtained results for teleparallel Rastall gravity (TRG), with specific choices of $f(T)$, are studied. It is shown that th…
Moller's tetrad gravitational energy-momentum "tensor" is evaluated for a small vacuum region using an orthonormal frame adapted to Riemann normal coordinates. We find that it does satisfy the highly desired property of being a positive multiple of the Bel-Robinson tensor.
In this paper, we study static spherically symmetric wormhole solutions in extended teleparallel gravity with the inclusion of noncommutative geometry under Lorentzian distribution. We obtain expressions of matter components for non-diagonal tetrad. The effective energy-momentum tensor leads to the violation of energy conditions which impose condition on the normal matter to satisfy these conditions. We explore the noncommutative wormhole solutions by assuming a viable power-law $f(T)$ and shape function models. For the first model, we discuss two cases in which one leads to teleparallel gravi…
A gravitational field can be seen as the anholonomy of the tetrad fields. This is more explicit in the teleparallel approach, in which the gravitational field-strength is the torsion of the ensuing Weitzenboeck connection. In a tetrad frame, that torsion is just the anholonomy of that frame. The infinitely many tetrad fields taking the Lorentz metric into a given Riemannian metric differ by point-dependent Lorentz transformations. Inertial frames constitute a smaller infinity of them, differing by fixed-point Lorentz transformations. Holonomic tetrads take the Lorentz metric into itself, and c…
This work contains the teleparallel version of the stationary axisymmetric solutions. We obtain the tetrad and the torsion fields representing these solutions. The tensor, vector and axial-vector parts of the torsion tensor are evaluated. It is found that the axial-vector has component only along $ρ$ and $z$ directions. The three possibilities of the axial vector depending on the metric function $B$ are discussed. The vector related with spin has also been evaluated and the corresponding extra Hamiltonian is furnished. Further, we use the teleparallel version of M$\ddot{o}$ller prescription to…
We derive an exact general axi-symmetric solution of the coupled gravitational and electromagnetic fields in the tetrad theory of gravitation. The solution is characterized by four parameters $M$ (mass), $Q$ (charge), $a$ (rotation) and $L$ (NUT). We then, calculate the total exterior energy using the energy-momentum complex given by Møller in the framework of Weitzenb$\ddot{o}$ck geometry. We show that the energy contained in a sphere is shared by its interior as well as exterior. We also calculate the components of the spatial momentum to evaluate the angular momentum distribution. We show t…
In this paper, we find the teleparallel version of the Levi-Civita metric and obtain tetrad and the torsion fields. The tensor, vector and the axial-vector parts of the torsion tensor are evaluated. It is found that the vector part lies along the radial direction only while the axial-vector vanishes everywhere because the metric is diagonal. Further, we use the teleparallel version of M$\ddot{o}$ller, Einstein, Landau-Lifshitz and Bergmann-Thomson prescriptions to find the energy-momentum distribution of this metric and compare the results with those already found in General Relativity. It is …

A historical account of Einstein's 'Fernparallelismus' approach towards a unified field theory of gravitation and electromagnetism is given. In this theory, a space-time characterized by a curvature-free connection in conjunction with a metric tensor field, both defined in terms of a dynamical tetrad field, is investigated. The approach was pursued by Einstein in a number of publications that appeared in the period from summer 1928 until spring 1931. In the historical analysis special attention is given to the question of how Einstein tried to find field equations for the tetrads. We claim tha…
In the context of the Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity (TEGR) we have investigated the role of local observers, associated with tetrad fields, in description of the gravitational interaction through the concepts of the gravitoelectric (GE) and gravitomagnetic (GM) fields. We start by analyzing the gravitoelectromagnetic (GEM) fields obtained from an observer freely falling in the Schwarzschild space-time. Then, we investigated whether it is possible to distinguish between this situation and to be at rest in the Minkowski space-time. We conclude that, although there are non-zero co…

The geometric trinity of gravity offers a platform in which gravity can be formulated in three analogous approaches, namely curvature, torsion and nonmetricity. In this vein, general relativity can be expressed in three dynamically equivalent ways which may offer insights into the different properties of these decompositions such as their Hamiltonian structure, the efficiency of numerical analyses, as well as the classification of gravitational field degrees of freedom. In this work, we take a $3+1$ decomposition of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity and the symmetric teleparall…
We consider the interpretation of tetrad fields as reference frames in spacetime. Reference frames may be characterized by an antisymmetric acceleration tensor, whose components are identified as the inertial accelerations of the frame (the translational acceleration and the frequency of rotation of the frame). This tensor is closely related to gravitoelectromagnetic field quantities. We construct the set of tetrad fields adapted to observers that are in free fall in the Schwarzschild spacetime, and show that the gravitational energy-momentum constructed out of this set of tetrad fields, in th…
The assumption that matter charges and currents could generate fields, which are called, by analogy with electromagnetism, gravitoeletric and gravitomagnetic fields, dates from the origins of General Relativity (GR). On the other hand, the Teleparallel Equivalent of GR (TEGR), as a gauge theory, seems to be the ideal scenario to define these fields, based on the gauge field strength components. The purpose of the present work is to investigate the nature of the gravitational electric and magnetic fields in the context of the TEGR, where the tetrad formalism behind it seems to be more appropria…
We consider the newly proposed Bahamonde-Dialektopoulos-Levi Said (BDLS) theory, that is the Horndeski analog in the teleparallel framework and thus contains a non-minimally coupled scalar field, including higher order derivatives, that leads however to second order field equations both for the tetrad and the scalar field. This theory was mostly constructed to revive those models that were severely constrained in the scalar-tensor version of the theory from the GW170817, but includes also much richer phenomenology because of the nature of the torsion tensor. For this theory we determine the pa…
Null tetrads are shown to be a valuable tool in teleparallel theories of modified gravity. We use them to prove that Kerr geometry remains a solution for a wide family of f(T) theories of gravity.
We calculate energy and momentum of a spherically symmetric dilaton frame using the gravitational energy-momentum 3-form within the tetrad formulation of general relativity (GR). The frame we use is characterized by an arbitrary function $Υ$ with the help of which all the previously found solutions can be reproduced. We show how the effect of inertia {\it (which is mainly reproduced from $Υ$)} makes the total energy and momentum always different from the well known result when we use the Riemannian connection ${{\widetilde Γ}_α}^β$. On the other hand, when use is made of the covariant formulat…
We continue to investigate the premetric teleparallel theory of gravity (TG) with the coframe (tetrad) as gravitational potential. We start from the field equations and a local and linear constitutive law. We create a Tonti diagram of TG in order to disclose the structure of TG. Subsequently we irreducibly decompose the 6th order constitutive tensor under the linear group. Moreover, we construct the most general constitutive tensors from the metric and the totally antisymmetric Levi-Civita symbol, and we demonstrate that they encompass nontrivial axion and skewon type pieces. Using these tools…
An energy for the homogeneous cosmological models is presented. More specifically, using an appropriate natural prescription, we find the energy within any region with any gravitational source for a large class of gravity theories--namely those with a tetrad description--for all 9 Bianchi types. Our energy is given by the value of the Hamiltonian with homogeneous boundary conditions; this value vanishes for all regions in all Bianchi class A models, and it does not vanish for any class B model. This is so not only for Einstein's general relativity but, moreover, for the whole 3-parameter class…
In general relativity, inertia and gravitation are both included in the Levi-Civita connection. As a consequence, the gravitational action, as well as the corresponding energy-momentum density, are in general contaminated by spurious contributions coming from inertial effects. In teleparallel gravity, on the other hand, because the spin connection represents inertial effects only, it is possible to separate inertia from gravitation. Relying on this property, it is shown that to each tetrad there is naturally associated a spin connection that locally removes the inertial effects from the action…
Teleparallel gravity can be seen as a gauge theory for the translation group. As such, its fundamental field is neither the tetrad nor the metric, but a gauge potential assuming values in the Lie algebra of the translation group. This gauge character makes of teleparallel gravity, despite its equivalence to general relativity, a rather peculiar theory. A first important point is that it does not rely on the universality of free fall, and consequently does not require the equivalence principle to describe the gravitational interaction. Another peculiarity is its similarity with Maxwell's theory…
