Let f : X --> Y be a holomorphic map of complex manifolds, which is proper, Kahler, and surjective with connected fibers, and which is smooth over Y-Z the complement of an analytic subset Z. Let E be a Nakano semi-positive vector bundle on X, and consider direct image sheaves F = R^qf_*(K_{X/Y} \otimes E) for q \geq 0. In our previous paper, we discussed the Nakano semi-positivity of F with respect to the so-called Hodge metric, when the map f is smooth. In this paper, we discuss the extension of the induced metric on the tautological line bundle O(1) on the projective space bundle P(F) ``over Y-Z'' as a singular Hermitian metric with semi-positive curvature ``over Y''. As a particular consequence, if Y is projective, R^qf_*(K_{X/Y} \otimes E) is weakly positive over Y-Z in the sense of Viehweg.
In this article we are interested in morphisms without slope for mixed Hodge modules. We first show the commutativity of iterated nearby cycles and vanishing cycles applied to a mixed Hodge module in the case of a morphism without slope. Then we define the notion "strictly without slope" for a mixed Hodge module and we show the preservation of this condition under the direct image by a proper morphism. As an application we prove the compatibility of the Hodge filtration and Kashiwara-Malgrange filtrations for some pure Hodge modules with support an hypersurface with quasi-ordinary singularitie…
We explain a correct proof of the decomposition theorem for direct images of constant Hodge modules by proper Kähler morphisms of complex manifolds. We also give some examples showing certain difficulty in the non-constant Hodge module case.
Given a family of Laurent polynomials, we will construct a morphism between its (proper) Gauss-Manin system and a direct sum of associated GKZ systems. The kernel and cokernel of this morphism are very simple and consist of free O-modules. The result above enables us to put a mixed Hodge module structure on certain classes of GKZ systems and shows that they have quasi-unipotent monodromy.
The aim of this article is to study degeneration of the variations of Hodge structure associated to a proper Kähler semistable morphism. We prove that the weight filtrations constructed in the author's previous paper coincide with the monodromy weight filtrations on the relative log de Rham cohomology groups of a proper Kähler semistable morphism. Moreover, we show that the limiting mixed Hodge structures form admissible variations of mixed Hodge structure.
We give, for a complex algebraic variety $S$, a Hodge realization functor $\mathcal F_S^{Hdg}$ from the derived category of constructible motives $DA_c(S)$ to the derived category $D(MHM(S))$ of algebraic mixed Hodge modules over $S$. Moreover, for $f:T\to S$ a morphism of complex quasi-projective algebraic varieties, $\mathcal F_{-}^{Hdg}$ commutes with the four operation $f^*$,$f_*$,$f_!$,$f^!$ on $DA_c(-)$ and $D(MHM(-))$, making the Hodge realization functor a morphism of 2-functor wich for a given $S$ sends $DA_c(S)$ to $D(MHM(S)$, moreover $\mathcal F_S^{Hdg}$ commutes with tensor produc…
Given a projective morphism of compact, complex, algebraic varieties and a relatively ample line bundle on the domain we prove that a suitable choice, dictated by the line bundle, of the decomposition isomorphism of the Decomposition Theorem of Beilinson, Bernstein, Deligne and Gabber, yields isomorphisms of pure Hodge structures. The proof is based on a new cohomological characterization of the decomposition isomorphism associated with the line bundle. We prove some corollaries concerning the intersection form in intersection cohomology, the natural map from cohomology to intersection cohomol…
We prove that a projective vertical exact log smooth morphism of fs log analytic spaces with a base of log rank one yields polarized log Hodge structures in the canonical way.
Using the harmonic theory developed by Takegoshi for representation of relative cohomology and the framework of computation of curvature of direct images bundles by Berndtsson, we prove that the higher direct images by a smooth morphism of the relative canonical bundle twisted by a semi-positive vector bundle are locally free and semi-positively curved, when endowed with a suitable Hodge type metric.
In this note, we show that the cohomology groups of (virtually) nilpotent Kähler groups are naturally endowed with a mixed Hodge structure. These structures make the Hopf morphisms into mixed Hodge structures morphisms. We illustrate this fact with the study of known examples of non-abelian nilpotent Kähler groups.
Given a smooth projective 3-fold Y, with $H^{3,0}(Y)=0$, the Abel-Jacobi map induces a morphism from each smooth variety parameterizing 1-cycles in Y to the intermediate Jacobian J(Y). We study in this paper the existence of families of 1-cycles in Y for which this induced morphism is surjective with rationally connected general fiber, and various applications of this property. When Y itself is rationally connected, we relate this property to the existence of an integral homological decomposition of the diagonal. We also study this property for cubic threefolds, completing the work of Iliev-Ma…

Given a mixed Hodge module and a meromorphic function f on a complex manifold, we associate to these data a filtration (the irregular Hodge filtration) on the exponentially twisted holonomic module, which extends the construction of arXiv:1302.4537. We show the strictness of the push-forward filtered D-module through any projective morphism, by using the theory of mixed twistor D-modules of T. Mochizuki. We consider the example of the rescaling of a regular function f, which leads to an expression of the irregular Hodge filtration of the Laplace transform of the Gauss-Manin systems of f in ter…
Let X be a complete complex nonsingular algebraic variety and D a closed algebraic subset of X. We show that the cup product maps H^i(X \setminus D) \otimes H^j(X,D) \to H^{i+j}(X,D) are morphisms of mixed Hodge structures. As a corollary we obtain a new proof of a duality result of Fujiki. We also deal with the extraordinary cup product.
We define a map $\mathcal{P}_M$ attached to any polarized Hodge module $M$ such that the restriction of $\mathcal{P}_M$ to a locus on which $M$ is a variation of Hodge structures induces the usual period integral pairing for this variation of Hodge structures. In the case that $M$ is the minimal extension of a simple polarized variation of Hodge structures $V$, we show that the homotopy image of $\mathcal{P}_M$ is the minimal extension of the graph morphism of the usual period integral map for $V$.
Given a morphism between complex projective varieties, we make several conjectures on the relations between the set of pseudo-effective (co)homology classes which are annihilated by pushforward and the set of classes of varieties contracted by the morphism. We prove these conjectures for classes of curves or divisors. We also prove that one of these conjectures implies Grothendieck's generalized Hodge conjecture for varieties with Hodge coniveau at least 1.
We study the behavior of Hodge-theoretic genera under morphisms of complex algebraic varieties. We prove that the additive $χ_y$-genus which arises in the motivic context satisfies the so-called ``stratified multiplicative property", which shows how to compute the invariant of the source of a proper surjective morphism from its values on various varieties that arise from the singularities of the map. By considering morphisms to a curve, we obtain a Hodge-theoretic analogue of the Riemann-Hurwitz formula. We also study the contribution of monodromy to the $χ_y$-genus of a smooth projective fami…
The main problem addressed in the paper is the Torelli problem for n-dimensional varieties of general type, more specifically for varieties with ample canonical bundle. It asks under which geometrical condition for a variety the period map for the Hodge structure of weight n is a local embedding. We define a line bundle to be almost very ample iff the associated linear system is base point free and yields an injective morphism. We define instead a line bundle to be quasi very ample if it yields a birational morphism which is a local embedding on the complement of a finite set. Our main result …
We generalise Simpson's nonabelian Hodge correspondence to the context of projective varieties with klt singularities. The proof relies on a descent theorem for numerically flat vector bundles along birational morphisms. In its simplest form, this theorem asserts that given any klt variety X and any resolution of singularities, then any vector bundle on the resolution that appears to come from X numerically, does indeed come from X. Furthermore and of independent interest, a new restriction theorem for semistable Higgs sheaves defined on the smooth locus of a normal, projective variety is esta…
Let $R$ be a discrete valuation ring of mixed characteristics $(0,p)$, with finite residue field $k$ and fraction field $K$, let $k'$ be a finite extension of $k$, and let $X$ be a regular, proper and flat $R$-scheme, with generic fibre $X_K$ and special fibre $X_k$. Assume that $X_K$ is geometrically connected and of Hodge type $\geq 1$ in positive degrees. Then we show that the number of $k'$-rational points of $X$ satisfies the congruence $|X(k')| \equiv 1$ mod $|k'|$. Thanks to \cite{BBE07}, we deduce such congruences from a vanishing theorem for the Witt cohomology groups $H^q(X_k, W\sO_{…
Let ${\cal L}$ be a local system on the complement $X^{\star}$ of a normal crossing divisor (NCD) $ Y$ in a smooth analytic variety $X$ and let $ j: X^{\star} = X - Y \to X $ denotes the open embedding. The purpose of this paper is to describe a weight filtration $W$ on the direct image ${\bf j}_{\star}{\cal L} $ and in case a morphism $f: X \to D$ to a complex disc is given with $Y = f^{-1}(0)$, the weight filtration on the complex of nearby cocycles $Ψ_f ({\cal L})$ on $Y$. A comparison theorem shows that the filtration coincides with the weight defined by the logarithm of the monodromy and …
Let ${\cal L}$ be a variation of Hodge structures on the complement $X^{*}$ of a normal crossing divisor (NCD) $ Y$ in a smooth analytic variety $X$ and let $ j: X^{*} = X - Y \to X $ denotes the open embedding. The purpose of this paper is to describe the weight filtration $W$ on a combinatorial logarithmic complex computing the (higher) direct image ${\bf j}_{*}{\cal L} $, underlying a mixed Hodge complex when $X$ is proper, proving in this way the results in the note [14] generalizing the constant coefficients case. When a morphism $f: X \to D$ to a complex disc is given with $Y = f^{-1}(0)…
Derived de Rham cohomology has been recently used in several contexts, as in works of Beilinson and Bhatt on p-adic periods morphisms and Morin on numerical invariants for special values of zeta functions. Inspired by some results of Morin, we aimed to compute Hodge completed derived de Rham complex in the case of a rings map $\mathbb{Z}\longrightarrow k$, factoring through $\mathbb{F}_p$, with $k$ a perfect ring (i.e. the Frobenius map is an automorphism).
We consider algebraic manifolds $Y$ of dimension 3 over $\Bbb{C}$ with $H^i(Y, Ω^j_Y)=0$ for all $j\geq 0$ and $i>0$. Let $X$ be a smooth completion of $Y$ with $D=X-Y$, an effective divisor on $X$ with normal crossings. If the $D$-dimension of $X$ is not zero, then $Y$ is a fibre space over a smooth affine curve $C$ (i.e., we have a surjective morphism from $Y$ to $C$ such that general fibre is smooth and irreducible) such that every fibre satisfies the same vanishing condition. If an irreducible smooth fibre is not affine, then the Kodaira dimension of $X$ is $-\infty$ and the $D$-dimension …
Let $f:X\to Y$ be a morphism of complex manifolds. Suppose that $X$ is a Kähler manifold. Let $(\mathcal{T},\mathcal{S})$ be a regular polarized pure twistor $\mathcal{D}$-module of weight $w$ on $X$ whose support is proper over $Y$. We prove the Hard Lefschetz Theorem for the push-forward of $(\mathcal{T},\mathcal{S})$ by $f$. As one of the key steps, we obtain the twistor version of a theorem of Kashiwara and Kawai about the Hodge structure on the intersection complex of polarized variation of Hodge structure.
We introduce a category of possibly irregular holonomic D-modules which can be endowed in a canonical way with an irregular Hodge filtration. Mixed Hodge modules with their Hodge filtration naturally belong to this category, as well as their twist by $\expφ$ for any meromorphic function $φ$. This category is stable by various standard functors, which produce many more filtered objects. The irregular Hodge filtration satisfies the $E_1$-degeneration property by a projective morphism. This generalizes some results proved by Esnault-Sabbah-Yu arxiv:1302.4537 and Sabbah-Yu arxiv:1406.1339. We also…
We give a bound for the number of rational maps between algebraic varieties of general type under mild hypothesis on the canonical map. We use an idea inspired by Tanabe's work. Instead of attaching a morphism of Hodge structures to a rational map we simply associate to it a piece of the integral Hodge lattice. This procedure does not give an injective map, but by means of a geometric argument, we can estimate the number of maps with the same image.
Given a mixed Hodge module E on a scheme X over the complex numbers, and a quasi-projective morphism f:X->S, we construct in this paper a natural resolution of the nth exterior tensor power of E restricted to the nth configuration space of f. The construction is reminiscent of techniques from the theory of hyperplane arrangements, and relies on Arnold's calculation of the cohomology of the configuration space of the complex line. This resolution is S_n-equivariant. We apply it to the universal elliptic curve with complete level structure of level N>=3 over the modular curve Y(N), obtaining a f…
We push further the classical proof of Weil upper bound for the number of rational points of an absolutely irreducible smooth projective curve $X$ over a finite field in term of euclidean relationships between the Neron Severi classes in $X\times X$ of the graphs of iterations of the Frobenius morphism. This allows us to recover Ihara's bound, which can be seen as a {\em second order} Weil upper bound, to establish a new {\em third order} Weil upper bound, and using {\tt magma} to produce numerical tables for {\em higher order} Weil upper bounds. We also give some interpretation for the defect…
We start with a curve over an algebraically closed ground field of positive characteristic $p>0$. By using specialization techniques, under suitable natural coprimality conditions, we prove a cohomological Simpson Correspondence between the moduli space of Higgs bundles and the one of connections on the curve. We also prove a new $p$-multiplicative periodicity concerning the cohomology rings of Dolbeault moduli spaces of degrees differing by a factor of $p$. By coupling this $p$-periodicity in characteristic $p$ with lifting/specialization techniques in mixed characteristic, we find, in arbitr…
We show a few basic results about moduli spaces of semistable modules over Lie algebroids. The first result shows that such moduli spaces exist for relative projective morphisms of noetherian schemes, removing some earlier constraints. The second result proves general separatedness Langton type theorem for such moduli spaces. More precisely, we prove S-completness of some moduli stacks of semistable modules. In some special cases this result identifies closed points of the moduli space of Gieseker semistable sheaves on a projective scheme and of the Donaldson--Uhlenbeck compactification of the…
We develop the theory of Griffiths period map, which relates the classification of smooth projective varieties to the associated Hodge structures, in the framework of Derived Algebraic Geometry. We complete the description of the local period map as a morphism of derived deformation functors, following the path marked by Fiorenza, Manetti and Martinengo. In the end we show how to lift the local period map to a (non-geometric) morphism of derived stacks, in order to construct a global version of that.

We use the liftability of the relative Frobenius morphism of toric varieties and the strong liftability of toric varieties to prove the Bott vanishing theorem, the degeneration of the Hodge to de Rham spectral sequence and the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem for log pairs on toric varieties in positive characteristic. These results generalize those results of Danilov, Buch-Thomsen-Lauritzen-Mehta, Mustata and Fujino to the case where concerned Weil divisors are not necessarily torus invariant.
Let $X$ be an irreducible projective variety and $f$ a morphism $X \rightarrow \mathbb{P}^n$. We give a new proof of the fact that the preimage of any linear variety of dimension $k\ge n+1-\dim f(X)$ is connected. We prove that the statement is a consequence of the Generalized Hodge Index Theorem using easy numerical arguments that hold in any characteristic. We also prove the connectedness Theorem of Fulton and Hansen as application of our main theorem.
Here, we utilize facts about the big Chern classes discovered by M. Kapranov and independently by M. V. Nori to prove certain results about the nonexistence of certain morphisms from Grassmannian to Grassmannian in characteristic 0. In particular, we show that the filtration F_. on CH^l(X) where F_rCH^l(X) is the linear span of ch_l(V) for all vector bundles V of rank <=r is nontrivial as a theory by showing that for a fixed l>=2, for infinitely many r, for a Grassmannian of r dimensional quotient spaces in an n dimensional vector space (n sufficiently large) over a field of charactersitic 0, …
