Spin of elementary particles is the only kinematic degree of freedom not having classical corre- spondence. It arises when seeking for the finite-dimensional representations of the Lorentz group, which is the only symmetry group of relativistic quantum field theory acting on multiple-component quantum fields non-unitarily. We study linear transformations, acting on the space of spatial and proper-time velocities rather than on coordinates. While ensuring the relativistic in- variance, they avoid these two exceptions: they describe the spin degree of freedom of a pointlike particle yet at a classical level and form a compact group hence with unitary finite-dimensional rep- resentations. Within this approach changes of the velocity modulus and direction can be accounted for by rotations of two independent unit vectors. Dirac spinors just provide the quantum description of these rotations.
It is shown that the Kapitza-Dirac effect with atoms, which has been considered to be evidence of their wavelike character, can be interpreted as a scattering of pointlike objects by the periodic laser field.
A particle is always not pure. It always contains hiding antiparticle ingredient which is the essence of special relativity. Accordingly, the Klein-Gordon (KG) equation and Dirac equation are restudied and compared with the Relativistic Stationary Schrödinger Equation (RSSE). When an electron is bound in a Hydrogenlike atom with pointlike nucleus having charge number $Z$, the critical value of $Z, Z_c$, equals to 137 in Dirac equation whereas $Z_c=\sqrt{M/μ} (137)$ in RSSE with $M$ and $μ$ being the total mass of atom and the reduced mass of the electron.
The Dirac monopole problem is studied in details within the framework of infinite-dimensional representations of the rotation group, and a consistent pointlike monopole theory with an arbitrary magnetic charge is deduced.
The hydrodynamic representation of quantum mechanics describes virtual flow as if a quantum system were fluid in motion. This formulation illustrates pointlike vortices when the phase of a wavefunction becomes nonintegrable at nodal points. We study the dynamics of such pointlike vortices in the hydrodynamic representation for a two-particle wavefunction. In particular, we discuss how quantum entanglement influences vortex-vortex dynamics. For this purpose, we employ the time-dependent quantum variational principle combined with the Rayleigh-Ritz method. We analyze the vortex dynamics and esta…
The observable gravitational and electromagnetic parameters of an electron: mass $m$, spin $J=\hbar/2$, charge $e$ and magnetic moment $ea = e\hbar /(2m)$ indicate unambiguously that the electron should had the Kerr-Newman background geometry -- exact solution of the Einstein-Maxwell gravity for a charged and rotating black hole. Contrary to the widespread opinion that gravity plays essential role only on the Planck scales, the Kerr-Newman gravity displays a new dimensional parameter $a =\hbar/(2m),$ which for parameters of an electron corresponds to the Compton wavelength and turns out to be …
The hypothesis is suggested that the equation for the Dirac free wave field is, in fact, a group-theoretical relation describing propagation of specific microscopic deviations of space geometry from the euclidean one (closed topological manifolds). The Dirac equation for a hydrogen atom can also be interpreted as a relation that accounts for the symmetry properties of a piece of curved space. Within the framework of this concept, atoms have no any pointlike particles (electrons) inside, and the gauge invariance of electromagnetic field proves to be the natural consequence of the basic principl…
Using the language of the Geometric Algebra, we recast the massive Dirac bispinor as a set of Lorentz scalar, vector, bivector, pseudovector, and pseudoscalar fields that obey a generalized form of Maxwell's equations of electromagnetism. This field-based formulation requires careful distinction between geometric and non-geometric implementations of the imaginary unit scalar in the Dirac algebra. This distinction, which is obscured in conventional treatments, allows us to find alternative constructions of the field bilinears and a more natural interpretation of the discrete C, P, and T transfo…
This paper presents a relativistic symmetrical interpretation of the Dirac equation in 1+1 dimensions which predicts no zitterbewegung for a free spin-1/2 particle. This could resolve the longstanding puzzle of zitterbewegung in relativistic quantum mechanics, and help clarify the physical meaning of the zitterbewegung currently under investigation in many-particle systems. Together with an earlier paper describing a relativistic symmetrical interpretation of the Klein-Gordon equation \cite{Heaney1}, this new interpretation resolves some inconsistencies in the conventional interpretations of b…
The Feynman parametrization of the Dirac equation is considered in order to obtain an indefinite mass formulation of relativistic quantum mechanics. It is shown that the parameter that labels the evolution is related to the proper time. The Stueckelberg interpretation of antiparticles naturally arises from the formalism.
It is suggested symmetric relative to particles and antiparticles formulation of the Dirac theory, in which the states with negative energy are excluded. The fields of particles and antiparticles are associated with the wave functions, for which there is valid the Born interpretation of being the probability amplitudes. In doing so, one eliminates different kinds of "paradoxes" in the theory, which existence is caused by an incorrect account of the states with negative energy.
This paper introduced the classical prisoner dilemma with the character and structure of quantum prisoner dilemma's strategy space. Associate with the Dirac spinor field, apply the basic quantum game strategy to the translation of the dynamics of Dirac equation. Decompose the real space and time to lattice we found that the basic interaction of spinor could be translated into quantum game theory. At the same time, we gained the new dynamics of quantized spacial evolutionary game.
A version of the Dirac equation is derived from first principles using a combination of quaternions and multivariate 4-vectors. The nilpotent form of the operators used allows us to derive explicit expressions for the wavefunctions of free fermions, vector bosons, scalar bosons; Bose-Einstein condensates, and baryons;annihilation, creation and vacuum operators; the quantum field integrals; and C, P and T transformations; and to suggest new insights into the meaning of supersymmetry and renormalization.
Classical model S_dc of Dirac particle S_D is constructed. S_D is the dynamic system described by the Dirac equation. Its classical analog S_dc is described by a system of ordinary differential equations, containing the quantum constant h as a parameter. Dynamic equations for S_dc are determined by the Dirac equation uniquely. Both dynamic systems S_D and S_dc appear to be nonrelativistic. One succeeded in transforming nonrelativistic dynamic system S_dc into relativistic one S_dcr. The dynamic system S_dcr appears to be a two-particle structure (special case of a relativistic rotator). It exp…
Using the language of the Geometric Algebra, we recast the massless Dirac bispinor as a set of Lorentz scalar, bivector, and pseudoscalar fields that obey a generalized form of Maxwell's equations of electromagnetism. The spinor's unusual 4-pi rotation symmetry is seen to be a mathematical artifact of the projection of these fields onto an abstract vector space, and not a physical property of the dynamical fields themselves. We also find a deeper understanding of the spin angular momentum and other Dirac field bilinears in terms of these fields and their corresponding analogues in classical el…
This paper presents a new Relativistic Symmetrical Interpretation (RSI) of the Dirac equation in (1+1)D which postulates: quantum mechanics is intrinsically time-symmetric, with no arrow of time; the fundamental objects of quantum mechanics are transitions; a transition is fully described by a complex transition amplitude density with specified initial and final boundary conditions; and transition amplitude densities never collapse. This RSI is compared to the Copenhagen Interpretation (CI) for the analysis of Einstein's bubble experiment with a spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ particle. This RSI can predic…
In the previous papers (quant-ph/0204037), (quant-ph/0204134) on the basis of Dirac's equation we have considered the electromagnetic interpretation of the quantum theory of electron. Here we continue the electron structure study. Since the Dirac equation is also the equation of the other leptons, in the present paper from the electromagnetic point of view we analyse the structure of neutrino. We will show that not only the electron but also all the other leptons have the electromagnetic structure.
A weakness which has previously seemed unavoidable in particle interpretations of quantum mechanics (such as in the de Broglie-Bohm model) is addressed here and a resolution proposed. The weakness in question is the lack of action and reaction occurring between the model's field (or "pilot wave") and the particle. Although the field acts on the particle, the particle does not act back on the field. It is shown here that this rather artificial feature is, in fact, not necessary and can be fully eliminated while remaining consistent with the usual quantum predictions. Mathematically this amounts…
Paul A. M. Dirac has been undoubtedly one of the central figures of the last century physics, contributing in several and remarkable ways to the development of Quantum Mechanics (QM); he was also at the centre of an active community of physicists, with whom he had extensive interactions and correspondence. In particular, the British physicist was in close contact with Bohr, Heisenberg and Pauli. For this reason, among others, Dirac is generally considered a supporter of the Copenhagen interpretation of QM. Similarly, he was considered a physicist sympathetic with the positivistic attitude whic…
In the first part of this work (http://www.arxiv.org/abs/quant-ph/0509044), it was shown that the Klein-Gordon-Maxwell electrodynamics in the unitary gauge allows natural elimination of the particle wave function and describes independent evolution of the electromagnetic field. Therefore, the electromagnetic field can be regarded as the guiding field in the Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics. An extension of those results to the Dirac-Maxwell electrodynamics was less general, but represented at least an interesting toy model of quantum theory. Another model based on the Dirac-Maxwell ele…
In the previous paper (quant-ph/0204037) we proved that the quantum mechanics not only has statistic interpretation, but also the specific electromagnetic form. Here, from this point of view we show that all the formal particularities of Dirac's equation have also the known electromagnetic sense.
A realistic interpretation of Schroedinger and Dirac equations for density matrices is proposed, in which the difference between the position arguments of the density matrix is considered as an objective extra space dimension. "Particle" solutions are found, which are perfectly localized both in position space and in momentum space (the position and momentum operators commute in the density matrix representation); definitions for all observable quantities are given and the values associated to the "particle" solutions are the correct ones, both for the non-relativistic and the relativistic cas…
Analytical solutions of the Dirac equation in an external electromagnetic field are found such that according to the field-theoretic interpretation electron-positron pairs are trapped for a period of time. The naive one-particle interpretation of the Dirac wave function fails in this case completely. Simple electromagnetic field which produces this effect was undeniably concocted and may look artificial but the phenomenon of time traps seems real.
Two forms of relativistic density functional are derived from Dirac equation. Based on their structure analysis model of split electron is proposed. In this model electric charge and mass of electron behave like two point-like particles. It is shown that two electrons obeying this model cannot occupy the same quantum state. Empirical verification of the model is discussed.
A de Broglie-Bohm like model of Dirac equation, that leads to the correct Pauli equations for electrons and positrons in the low-speed limit, is presented. Under this theoretical framework, that affords an interpretation of the quantum potential, the main assumption of the de Broglie-Bohm theory--that the local momentum of particles is given by the gradient of the phase of the wave function--wont be accurate. Also, the number of particles wont be locally conserved. Furthermore, the representation of physical systems through wave functions wont be complete.
Using 2 more time variables as the quantum hidden variables, we derive the equation of Dirac field under the principle of classical physics, then we extend our method into the quantum fields with arbitrary spin number. The spin of particle is shown naturally as the topological property of 3-dimensional time + 3-dimensional space . One will find that the quantum physics of single particle can be interpreted as the behavior of the single particle in 3+3 time-space .
A change of quantum states for a quantum particle may lead to a change of physical field it exerts to the environment. We discuss such Gedankenexperiment for measuring the magnetic dipole fields associated with the electronic spins. When entangled, electrons are no longer free Dirac electrons but become an excited state in a quantum-electrodynamics sense. A measurement of magnetism associated with entanglement-collapse of electrons becomes a test for Copenhagen interpretation in the reign of quantum-electrodynamics. This proposal is equally applicable to other particles and their associated fi…
We present a new open source software for the integration of the radial Dirac equation developed specifically with muonic atoms in mind. The software, called mudirac, is written in C++ and can be used to predict frequencies and probabilities of the transitions between levels of the muonic atom. In this way, it provides an invaluable tool in helping with the interpretation of muonic X-ray spectra for elemental analysis. We introduce the details of the algorithms used by the software, show the interpretation of a few example spectra, and discuss the more complex issues involved with predicting t…
The ideas behind the nonlocal classical statistical field theory model for the quantized Klein-Gordon field introduced in Morgan(2001, quant-ph/0106141) are extended to accommodate quantum electrodynamics. The anticommutation rules for the quantized Dirac spinor field are given a classical interpretation as a relativistically covariant modification of the minimal coupling interaction between the classical electromagnetic field and a classical Dirac spinor field.
A novel interpretation is given of Dirac's "wave equation for the relativistic electron" as a quantum-mechanical one-particle equation. In this interpretation the electron and the positron are merely the two different "topological spin" states of a single more fundamental particle, not distinct particles in their own right. The new interpretation is backed up by the existence of such bi-particle structures in general relativity, in particular the ring singularity present in any spacelike section of the maximal analytically extended, topologically non-trivial, electromagnetic Kerr-Newman spacet…
Schroedinger (Nature, v.169, p.538 (1952)) demonstrated that, contrary to the widespread belief, charged particles may be described by real fields. Therefore the sets of solutions with real-valued charged fields are considered in the present work for some versions of (non-second-quantized) quantum electrodynamics (for Dirac spinors "real-valued" is understood as "satisfying the Majorana condition"). In some of the versions any solution may be obtained from a solution from those sets by a gauge transform. The solutions from those sets have common features suggesting a natural interpretation alo…
A new approach is proposed for an electromagnetic field geometrisation. We show that interacting Maxwell and Dirac fields can be considered as a single connected space-time 4-manifold. The Dirac spinors appear wihtin such approach as basic fanctions for the manifold fundamental group representation and electric and magnertic fields appear as components of a curvature tensor of the manifold covering space.
The purpose of this paper is to show that: when a single particle moving under 3-proper time (three-dimensional time), the trajectories of a classical particle are equivalent to a quantum field with spin. Three-proper time models are built for spinless particle, particles with integer spin and half-integer spin respectively. The models recreate the same physical behavior as quantum field theory of free particles -- by using pure classical methods with three proper time. A new interpretation of spin is given. It provides us more evident that it is possible to interpret quantum physics by using …
Probabilistic description of results of measurements and its consequences for understanding quantum mechanics are discussed. It is shown that the basic mathematical structure of quantum mechanics like the probability amplitude, Born rule, probability density current, commutation relations, momentum operator, uncertainty relations, rules for including the scalar and vector potentials and existence of antiparticles can be derived from the definition of the mean values of the space coordinates and time. Equations of motion of quantum mechanics, the Klein-Gordon equation, Schroedinger equation and…
We construct a non-Grassmann spinning-particle model which, by analogy with quantum mechanics, does not admit the notion of a trajectory within the position space. The pseudo-classical character of the model allows us to avoid the inconsistencies arising in the quantum-mechanical interpretation of a one-particle sector of the Dirac equation.
In this work we study the dynamics of free 3D relativistic Gaussian wave packets with different spin polarization. We analyze the connection between the symmetry of initial state and the dynamical characteristics of moving particle. The corresponding solutions of Dirac equation having different types of symmetry were evaluated analytically and numerically and after that the electron probability densities, as well as, the spin densities were visualized. The average values of velocity of the packet center and the average spin were calculated analytically, and the parameters of transient Zitterbe…
Perturbation theory is used systematically to investigate the symmetries of the Dirac Hamiltonian and their breaking in atomic nuclei. Using the perturbation corrections to the single-particle energies and wave functions, the link between the single-particle states in realistic nuclei and their counterparts in the symmetry limits is discussed. It is shown that the limit of S-V=const and relativistic harmonic oscillator (RHO) potentials can be connected to the actual Dirac Hamiltonian by the perturbation method, while the limit of S+V=const cannot, where S and V are the scalar and vector potent…
Starting from an interpretation of the classical-quantum correspondence, we derive the Dirac equation by factorizing the algebraic relation satisfied by the classical Hamiltonian, before applying the correspondence. This derivation applies in the same form to a free particle, to one in an electromagnetic field, and to one subjected to geodesic motion in a static metric, and leads to the same, usual form of the Dirac equation--in special coordinates. To use the equation in the static-gravitational case, we need to rewrite it in more general coordinates. This can be done only if the usual, spino…
This article aims to reconsider E. Schrödinger's famous thought experiment, the cat paradox experiment, and its place in quantum foundations from a new perspective, grounded in the type of interpretation of quantum phenomena and quantum mechanics, which belongs to the class of interpretations designated here as "reality without realism" (RWR) interpretations. Such interpretations have not been previously brought to bear on the cat experiment, including by N. Bohr, whose interpretation in its ultimate forms (as he changes his interpretation a few times) is an RWR interpretation, but who does no…
We give a geometrical derivation of the Dirac equation by considering a spin-1/2 particle travelling with the speed of light in a cubic spacetime lattice. The mass of the particle acts to flip the multi-component wavefunction at the lattice sites. Starting with a difference equation for the case of one spatial and one time dimensions, we generalize the approach to higher dimensions. Interactions with external electromagnetic and gravitational fields are also considered. One logical interpretation is that only at the lattice sites is the spin-1/2 particle aware of its mass and the presence of e…
We derive a semiclassical time evolution kernel and a trace formula for the Dirac equation. The classical trajectories that enter the expressions are determined by the dynamics of relativistic point particles. We carefully investigate the transport of the spin degrees of freedom along the trajectories which can be understood geometrically as parallel transport in a vector bundle with SU(2) holonomy. Furthermore, we give an interpretation in terms of a classical spin vector that is transported along the trajectories and whose dynamics, dictated by the equation of Thomas precession, gives rise t…
We construct a new example of the spinning-particle model without Grassmann variables. The spin degrees of freedom are described on the base of an inner anti-de Sitter space. This produces both $Γ^μ$ and $Γ^{μν}$\,-matrices in the course of quantization. Canonical quantization of the model implies the Dirac equation. We present the detailed analysis of both the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian formulations of the model and obtain the general solution to the classical equations of motion. Comparing {\it Zitterbewegung} of the spatial coordinate with the evolution of spin, we ask on the possibilit…
