Classical model S_dc of Dirac particle S_D is constructed. S_D is the dynamic system described by the Dirac equation. Its classical analog S_dc is described by a system of ordinary differential equations, containing the quantum constant h as a parameter. Dynamic equations for S_dc are determined by the Dirac equation uniquely. Both dynamic systems S_D and S_dc appear to be nonrelativistic. One succeeded in transforming nonrelativistic dynamic system S_dc into relativistic one S_dcr. The dynamic system S_dcr appears to be a two-particle structure (special case of a relativistic rotator). It explains freely such properties of S_D as spin and magnetic moment, which are strange for pointlike structure. The rigidity function f_r(a), describing rotational part of total mass as a function of the radius $a$ of rotator, has been calculated for S_dcr. For investigation of S_D and construction of S_dc one uses new dynamic methods: dynamic quantization and dynamic disquantization. These relativistic pure dynamic procedures do not use principles of quantum mechanics (QM). They generalize and replace conventional quantization and transition to classical approximation. Totality of these methods forms the model conception of quantum phenomena (MCQP). Technique of MCQP is more subtle and effective, than conventional methods of QM. MCQP relates to conventional QM, much as the statistical physics relates to thermodynamics.
We study the algebraic structure of the one-dimensional Dirac oscillator by extending the concept of spin symmetry to a noncommutative case. An SO(4) algebra is found connecting the eigenstates of the Dirac oscillator, in which the two elements of Cartan subalgebra are conserved quantities. Similar results are obtained in the Jaynes--Cummings model.
The time-dependent Dirac equation is solved using the three-dimensional Finite Difference-Time Domain (FDTD) method. The dynamics of the electron wave packet in a vector potential is studied in the arrangements associated with the Aharonov-Bohm effect. The solution of the Dirac equation showed a change in the velocity of the electron wave packet even in a region where no forces acted on the electron. The solution of the Dirac equation agreed with the prediction of classical dynamics under the assumption that the dynamics was defined by the conservation of generalized or canonical momentum. It …

The formalism of Operational Dynamical Modeling [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 109}, 190403 (2012)] is employed to analyze dynamics of spin half relativistic particles. We arrive at the Dirac equation from specially constructed relativistic Ehrenfest theorems by assuming that the coordinates and momenta do not commute. Forbidding creation of antiparticles and requiring the commutativity of the coordinates and momenta lead to classical Spohn's equation [Ann. Phys. {\bf 282}, 420 (2000)]. Moreover, Spohn's equation turns out to be the classical Koopman-von Neumann theory underlying the Dirac equation.
We examine the dynamic and geometric phases of the electron in quantum mechanics using Hestenes' spacetime algebra formalism. First the standard dynamic phase formula is translated into the spacetime algebra. We then define new formulas for the dynamic and geometric phases that can be used in Hestenes' formalism.
The core concept of quantum simulation is the mapping of an inaccessible quantum system onto a controllable one by identifying analogous dynamics. We map the Dirac equation of relativistic quantum mechanics in 3+1 dimensions onto a multi-level superconducting Josephson circuit. Resonant drives determine the particle mass and momentum and the quantum state represents the internal spinor dynamics, which are cast in the language of multi-level quantum optics. The degeneracy of the Dirac spectrum corresponds to a degeneracy of bright/dark states within the system and particle spin and helicity are…
A non-relativistic system such as an ultracold trapped ion may perform a quantum simulation of a Dirac equation dynamics under specific conditions. The resulting Hamiltonian and dynamics are highly controllable, but the coupling between momentum and internal levels poses some difficulties to manipulate the internal states accurately in wave packets. We use invariants of motion to inverse engineer robust population inversion processes with a homogeneous, time-dependent simulated electric field. This exemplifies the usefulness of inverse-engineering techniques to improve the performance of quant…
Achieving effectively adiabatic dynamics in finite time is a ubiquitous goal in virtually all areas of modern physics. So-called shortcuts to adiabaticity refer to a set of methods and techniques that allow to produce in a short time the same final state that would result from an adiabatic, infinitely slow process. In the present work we generalize one of these methods -- the fast-forward technique -- to driven Dirac dynamics. As a main result we find that shortcuts to adiababticity for the $(1+1)$-dimensional Dirac equation are facilitated by a combination of both, scalar and pseudoscalar pot…
We present an open system interaction formalism for the Dirac equation. Overcoming a complexity bottleneck of alternative formulations, our framework enables efficient numerical simulations (utilizing a typical desktop) of relativistic dynamics within the von Neumann density matrix and Wigner phase space descriptions. Employing these instruments, we gain important insights into the effect of quantum dephasing for relativistic systems in many branches of physics. In particular, the conditions for robustness of Majorana spinors against dephasing are established. Using the Klein paradox and tunne…
Only very recently, rescaling time has been recognized as a way to achieve adiabatic dynamics in fast processes. The advantage of time-rescaling over other shortcuts to adiabaticity is that it does not depend on the eigenspectrum and eigenstates of the Hamiltonian. However, time-rescaling requires that the original dynamics are adiabatic, and in the rescaled time frame the Hamiltonian exhibits non-trivial time-dependence. In this work, we show how time-rescaling can be applied to Dirac dynamics, and we show that all time-dependence can be absorbed into the effective potentials through a judici…
The dynamics of wavepackets in a relativistic Dirac oscillator (DO) is considered. A comparison to nonrelativistic spin-orbit pendulum effect is discussed. Particular relativistic effects, like Zitterbewegung in spin motion, are found in Dirac representation. This trembling motion disappears in Foldy-Wouthuysen representation. A substantial difference between the dynamics of wavepackets corresponding to circular and linear orbits of a particle is obtained and discussed.
This paper introduced the classical prisoner dilemma with the character and structure of quantum prisoner dilemma's strategy space. Associate with the Dirac spinor field, apply the basic quantum game strategy to the translation of the dynamics of Dirac equation. Decompose the real space and time to lattice we found that the basic interaction of spinor could be translated into quantum game theory. At the same time, we gained the new dynamics of quantized spacial evolutionary game.
Quantum walk (QW) provides a versatile tool to study fundamental physics and also to make a variety of practical applications. We here start with the recent idea of {\it nonlinear} QW and show that introducing {\it nonlinearity} to QW can lead to a wealth of remarkable possibilities, e.g., simulating nonlinear quantum dynamics thus enhancing the applicability of QW above the existing level for a universal quantum simulator. As an illustration, we show that the dynamics of a nonlinear Dirac particle can be simulated on an optical nonlinear QW platform implemented with a measurement-based-feedfo…
The motion of circular WP for one electron in central Coulomb field with high Z is calculated. The WP is defined in terms of solutions of the Dirac equation in order to take into account all possible relevant effects in particular the spin-orbit potential. A time scale is defined within which spin dynamics must be taken into account mainly in the atoms with high Z. Within this time scale there exists a mechanism of collapses and revivals of the spin already shown by the authors for harmonic oscillator potential and called the 'spin-orbit pendulum'. However this effect has not the exact periodi…
The problem of simulating through quantum walks Dirac fermions in arbitrary curved space-times and coordinates is revisited, taking (1 + 1)D space-times as an example. A new shift or translation operator on the grid is introduced, to take into account arbitrary geometries. The new, generalised quantum walks built with this operator can simulate Dirac fermions in arbitrary curved space-times and coordinates, and their wave functions have exactly the same number of components as standard Dirac spinors, and not twice that number, as previously believed. In particular, in $(1 + 1)$D space-times, o…
Electron spin dynamics in Kapitza-Dirac scattering from a standing laser wave of high frequency and high intensity is studied. We develop a fully relativistic quantum theory of the electron motion based on the time-dependent Dirac equation. Distinct spin dynamics, with Rabi oscillations and complete spin-flip transitions, is demonstrated for Kapitza-Dirac scattering involving three photons in a parameter regime accessible to future high-power X-ray laser sources. The Rabi frequency and, thus, the diffraction pattern is shown to depend crucially on the spin degree of freedom.
We discuss the properties of 1D stationary pulses of light in atomic ensemble with electromagnetically induced transparency in the limit of tight spatial confinement. When the size of the wavepacket becomes comparable or smaller than the absorption length of the medium, it must be described by a two-component vector which obeys the one-dimensional two-component Dirac equation with an effective mass $m^*$ and effective speed of light $c^*$. Then a fundamental lower limit to the spatial width in an external potential arises from Klein tunneling and is given by the effective Compton length $λ_C =…
We identify and describe how intense short light pulses couple to massless Dirac fermions in two-dimensional systems. The ensuing excitation dynamics exhibits unusual scaling with the wavelength of the light due the linear dispersion of the band structure and the fact that light coupling is efficient only close to the Dirac points. We exploit these features to achieve valley polarization of more than 70 % with simple pulse shapes. Quantitative results are given for pristine graphene.
We study the dynamics of ultracold atoms in tailored bichromatic optical lattices. By tuning the lattice parameters, one can readily engineer the band structure and realize a Dirac point, i.e. a true crossing of two Bloch bands. The dynamics in the vicinity of such a crossing is described by the one-dimensional Dirac equation, which is rigorously shown beyond the tight-binding approximation. Within this framework we analyze the effects of an external potential and demonstrate numerically that it is possible to demonstrate Klein tunneling with current experimental setups.
We study dynamics of Dirac solitons in prototypical networks modeling them by the nonlinear Dirac equation on metric graphs. Soliton solutions of the nonlinear Dirac equation on simple metric graphs are obtained. It is shown that these solutions provide reflectionless vertex transmission of the Dirac solitons under suitable conditions. The constraints for bond nonlinearity coefficients, allowing reflectionless transmission over a Y-junction are derived. The analytical results are confirmed by direct numerical simulations.
We theoretically investigate the influence of a longitudinal laser polarization component from beam focusing on spin dynamics in Kapitza-Dirac scattering by solving the relativistic Dirac equation with time-dependent perturbation theory. The transverse spacial dependence of the longitudinal beam polarization component is accounted for, by approximating a Gaussian beam with plane-wave components. We find that corrections from a longitudinal laser beam polarization component approximately scale with the second power of the diffraction angle $ε$, from which we conclude that a related influence fr…
Spin-dependent Kapitza-Dirac scattering of electron beams from counterpropagating bichromatic laser waves in various polarization geometries is studied. The corresponding scattering probabilities are obtained by analytical and numerical solutions of the time-dependent Dirac equation, assuming a field frequency ratio of 2. When the fundamental field mode is circular-polarized, we show that spin dynamics are generally suppressed at low intensities, but can become distinct at high intensities. Conversely, when a linearly or elliptically polarized fundamental mode is combined with a second harmoni…
Kapitza-Dirac scattering of nonrelativistic electrons from counterpropagating bichromatic laser waves of linear polarization is studied. The focus lies on the electronic spin dynamics in the Bragg regime when the laser fields possess a frequency ratio of two. To this end, the time-dependent Pauli equation is solved numerically, both in coordinate space and momentum space. Our numerical results are corroborated by analytical derivations. We demonstrate that, for certain incident electron momenta, the scattering crucially relies on the electron spin which undergoes characteristic Rabi-like oscil…
We investigate wavepacket dynamics across supercritical barriers for the Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations. Our treatment is based on a multiple scattering expansion (MSE). For spin-0 particles, the MSE diverges, rendering invalid the use of the usual connection formulas for the scattering basis functions. In a time-dependent formulation, the divergent character of the MSE naturally accounts for charge creation at the barrier boundaries. In the Dirac case, the MSE converges and no charge is created. We show that this time-dependent charge behavior dynamics can adequately explain the Klein parad…
We propose the use of the Dirac-Born-Infeld action in the phenomenological description of graphene sheet dynamics and interactions. Both the electronic properties of the Dirac fermions and the overall dynamics can be incorporated into this model. Classical static configurations, as well as quantum fluctuations of the membrane degrees of freedom can be studied in this framework. This makes it an interesting tool for Casimir physics and novel QED processes.
Computational methods are indispensable to study the quantum dynamics of relativistic light-matter interactions in parameter regimes where analytical methods become inapplicable. We present numerical methods for solving the time-dependent Dirac equation and the time-dependent Klein-Gordon equation and their implementation on high performance graphics cards. These methods allow us to study tunneling from hydrogen-like highly charged ions in strong laser fields and Kapitza-Dirac scattering in the relativistic regime.
The Dirac oscillator coupled to an external two-component field can retain its solvability, if couplings are appropriately chosen. This provides a new class of integrable systems. A simplified way of solution is given, by recasting the known solution of the Dirac oscillator into matrix form; there one notices, that a block-diagonal form arises in a Hamiltonian formulation. The blocks are two-dimensional. Choosing couplings that do not affect the block structure, these just blow up the $2 \times 2$ matrices to $4 \times 4 $ matrices, thus conserving solvability. The result can be cast again in …
We study the dynamical behaviour of the quantum cellular automaton of Refs. [1, 2], which reproduces the Dirac dynamics in the limit of small wavevectors and masses. We present analytical evaluations along with computer simulations, showing how the automaton exhibits typical Dirac dynamical features, as the Zitterbewegung and the scattering behaviour from potential that gives rise to the so-called Klein paradox. The motivation is to show concretely how pure processing of quantum information can lead to particle mechanics as an emergent feature, an issue that has been the focus of solid-state, …
Quantization Mapping on Dirac Dynamics via Voltage-Driven Charge Density in Monolayer Graphene: A Klein Paradox and Entropy-Ruled Wavevector Mechanics Study

There suggested a modification of the Dirac electron theory, eliminating its mathematical incompleteness. The modified Dirac electron, called dual, is described by two waves, one of which is the Dirac wave and the second dynamically restores the symmetry unused in the Dirac theory of the Dirac equation. There has been produced a set of the conserved currents which are generated by equations of the dual electron. It is shown that, although, it consists of the vector, axial and left currents, nevertheless, it has mirror symmetry. It is also shown that if the observed electron follows the dual el…
We prove that for the radial Dirac equation with Coulomb-type potential the generalized dynamical scattering operator coincides with the corresponding generalized stationary scattering operator. This fact is a quantum mechanical analogue of ergodic results in the classical mechanics.
Dirac particle represents a fundamental constituent of our nature. Simulation of Dirac particle dynamics by a controllable quantum system using quantum walks will allow us to investigate the non-classical nature of dynamics in its discrete form. In this work, starting from a modified version of one-spatial dimensional general inhomogeneous split-step discrete quantum walk we derive an effective Hamiltonian which mimics a single massive Dirac particle dynamics in curved $(1+1)$ space-time dimension coupled to $U(1)$ gauge potential---which is a forward step towards the simulation of the unifica…
We consider Dirac quasi-particles, as realized with cold atoms loaded in a honeycomb lattice or in a $π$-flux square lattice, in the presence of a weak correlated disorder such that the disorder fluctuations do not couple the two Dirac points of the lattices. We numerically and theoretically investigate the time evolution of the momentum distribution of such quasi-particles when they are initially prepared in a quasi-monochromatic wave packet with a given mean momentum. The parallel transport of the pseudo-spin degree of freedom along scattering paths in momentum space generates a geometrical …
We demonstrate the emergence and dynamics of intra-particle entanglement in massless Dirac fermions. This entanglement, generated by spin-orbit coupling, arises between the spin and sublattice pseudospin of electrons in graphene. The entanglement is a complex dynamic quantity but is generally large, independent of the initial state. Its time dependence implies a dynamical violation of a Bell inequality, while its magnitude indicates that large intra-particle entanglement is a general feature of graphene on a substrate. These features are also expected to impact entanglement between pairs of pa…
The Dirac equation is solved using three-dimensional Finite Difference-Time Domain (FDTD) method. $Zitterbewegung$ and the dynamics of a well-localized electron are used as examples of FDTD application to the case of free electrons.
In this work the dynamics of a 2D Dirac oscillator in the spacetime of a magnetic cosmic string is considered. It is shown that earlier approaches to this problem have neglected a $δ$ function contribution to the full Hamiltonian, which comes from the Zeeman interaction. The inclusion of spin effects leads to results which confirm a modified dynamics. Based on the self-adjoint extension method, we determined the most relevant physical quantities, such as energy spectrum, wave functions and the self-adjoint extension parameter by applying boundary conditions allowed by the system.
Discrete-time quantum walks can be regarded as quantum dynamical simulators since they can simulate spatially discretized Schrödinger, massive Dirac, and Klein-Gordon equations. Here, two different types of Fibonacci discrete-time quantum walks are studied analytically. The first is the Fibonacci coin sequence with a generalized Hadamard coin and demonstrates six-step periodic dynamics. The other model is assumed to have three- or six-step periodic dynamics with the Fibonacci sequence. We analytically show that these models have ballistic transportation properties and continuous limits identic…
Dynamical and non-dynamical components of the 20-component wave function are separated in the generalized Dirac equation of the first order, describing fermions with spin 1/2 and two mass states. After the exclusion of the non-dynamical components, we obtain the Hamiltonian Form of equations. Minimal and non-minimal electromagnetic interactions of particles are considered here.
Graphene with honeycomb structure, being critically important in understanding physics of matter, exhibits exceptionally unusual half-integer quantum Hall effect and unconventional electronic spectrum with quantum relativistic phenomena. Particularly, graphene-like structure can be used for realizing topological insulator which inspires an intrinsic topological protection mechanism with strong immunity for maintaining coherence of quantum information. These various peculiar physics arise from the unique properties of Dirac cones which show high hole degeneracy, massless charge carriers and lin…
Zero-mass lines result in appearance of linear dispersion modes for Dirac fermions. These modes play an important role in various physical systems. However, a Dirac fermion may not precisely follow a single zero-mass line, due to either tunneling between different lines or centrifugal forces. Being shifted from a zero-mass line the Dirac fermion acquires mass which can substantially influence its expected "massless" behavior. In the paper we calculate the energy gap caused by the tunneling between two zero-mass lines and show that its opening leads to the delocalization of linear dispersion mo…
We derive the relativistic Hamiltonian of hydrogen atom in dynamical noncommutative spaces (DNCS or τ-space). Using this Hamiltonian we calculate the energy shift of the ground state and as well the [2P]_(1/2), [2S]_(1/2) levels. In all cases the energy shift depend on the dynamical noncommutative parameter τ. Using the accuracy of the energy measurement we obtain an upper bound for τ. We also study the lamb shift in DNCS. Both the levels [2P]_(1/2) and [2S]_(1/2) receive corrections due to dynamical noncommutativity of space which is in contrast to the non-dynamical noncommutative spaces (NDN…
A generalization of the standard model of Dirac particle in external electromagnetic field is proposed. In the generalization we take into account interactions of this particle with environment, which is described by the memory function. This function takes into account that the behavior of the particle at proper time can depend not only at the present time, but also on the history of changes on finite time interval. In this case the Dirac particle can be considered an open quantum system with non-Markovian dynamics. The violation of the semigroup property of dynamic maps is a characteristic p…
