Classical and quantum Hamiltonian reductions of free geodesic systems of complete Riemannian manifolds are investigated. The reduced systems are described under the assumption that the underlying compact symmetry group acts in a polar manner in the sense that there exist regularly embedded, closed, connected submanifolds meeting all orbits orthogonally in the configuration space. Hyperpolar actions on Lie groups and on symmetric spaces lead to families of integrable systems of spin Calogero-Sutherland type.
In this paper, the dispersionless D type Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy, i.e. a reduction of the dispersionless two-component BKP hierarchy, is studied. The additional symmetry flows of this herarchy are presented. These flows form an infinite dimensional Lie algebra of Block type as well as a Lie algebra of Hamiltonian type.
In this paper, we discuss several relations between the existence of invariant volume forms for Hamiltonian systems on Poisson-Lie groups and the unimodularity of the Poisson-Lie structure. In particular, we prove that Hamiltonian vector fields on a Lie group endowed with a unimodular Poisson-Lie structure preserve a multiple of any left-invariant volume on the group. Conversely, we also prove that if there exists a Hamiltonian function such that the identity element of the Lie group is a nondegenerate singularity and the associated Hamiltonian vector field preserves a volume form, then the Po…
Motivated by the theory of Painlevé equations and associated hierarchies, we study non-autonomous Hamiltonian systems that are Frobenius integrable. We establish sufficient conditions under which a given finite-dimensional Lie algebra of Hamiltonian vector fields can be deformed to a time-dependent Lie algebra of Frobenius integrable vector fields spanning the same distribution as the original algebra. The results are applied to quasi-Stäckel systems.
Two examples of $\mathrm{Diff}^+S^1$-invariant closed two-forms obtained from forms on jet bundles, which does not admit equivariant moment maps are presented. The corresponding cohomological obstruction is computed and shown to coincide with a nontrivial Lie algebra cohomology class on $H^2(\mathfrak{X}(S^1))$.
In this paper we discuss the relation between the unimodularity of a Lie algebroid $τ_{A}: A\to Q$ and the existence of invariant volume forms for the hamiltonian dynamics on the dual bundle $A^{*}$. The results obtained in this direction are applied to several hamiltonian systems on different examples of Lie algebroids.
We prove the existence of a Lie algebra of first integrals for time dependent Hamiltonian systems of Lie type. Moreover, applying the Floquet theory for periodic Euler systems on Lie algebras, we show the existence of an abelian Lie algebra of periodic first integrals for periodic Hamiltonian systems. An application to the dynamics of a nonlinear oscillator is given.
In some previous papers, a geometric description of Lagrangian Mechanics on Lie algebroids has been developed. In the present paper, we give a Hamiltonian description of Mechanics on Lie algebroids. In addition, we introduce the notion of a Lagrangian submanifold of a symplectic Lie algebroid and we prove that the Lagrangian (Hamiltonian) dynamics on Lie algebroids may be described in terms of Lagrangian submanifolds of symplectic Lie algebroids. The Lagrangian (Hamiltonian) formalism on Lie algebroids permits to deal with Lagrangian (Hamiltonian) functions not defined necessarily on tangent (…
We provide an alternative method for obtaining of compatible Poisson structures on Lie groups by means of the adjoint representations of Lie algebras. In this way, we calculate some compatible Poisson structures on four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups. Then using Magri-Morosi's theorem we obtain new bi-Hamiltonian systems with four dimensional and nilpotent six dimensional symplectic real Lie groups as phase spaces.
The purpose of this paper is to describe geometrically discrete Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Mechanics on Lie groupoids. From a variational principle we derive the discrete Euler-Lagrange equations and we introduce a symplectic 2-section, which is preserved by the Lagrange evolution operator. In terms of the discrete Legendre transformations we define the Hamiltonian evolution operator which is a symplectic map with respect to the canonical symplectic 2-section on the prolongation of the dual of the Lie algebroid of the given groupoid. The equations we get include as particular cases the classic…
We construct integrable and superintegrable Hamiltonian systems using the realizations of four dimensional real Lie algebras as a symmetry of the system with the phase space R4 and R6. Furthermore, we construct some integrable and superintegrable Hamiltonian systems for which the symmetry Lie group is also the phase space of the system.
It is shown that the cotangent bundle of a matched pair Lie group is itself a matched pair Lie group. The trivialization of the cotangent bundle of a matched pair Lie group are presented. On the trivialized space, the canonical symplectic two-form and canonical Poisson bracket are explicitly written. Various symplectic and Poisson reductions are perfomed. The Lie-Poisson bracket is derived. As an example, Lie-Poisson equations on $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{C})^\ast$ are obtained.
We prove that a local Hamiltonian operator of hydrodynamic type K_1 is compatible with a nondegenerate local Hamiltonian operator of hydrodynamic type K_2 if and only if the operator K_1 is locally the Lie derivative of the operator K_2 along a vector field in the corresponding domain of local coordinates. This result gives a natural invariant definition of the class of special flat manifolds corresponding to all the class of compatible Dubrovin--Novikov Hamiltonian operators (the Frobenius--Dubrovin manifolds naturally belong to this class). There is an integrable bi-Hamiltonian hierarchy cor…
By means of the Schouten calculus for contravariant antisymmetric tensor fields, we apply the Lie transform method to investigate smooth deformations of tensor fields and, in particular, to perturbations of Hamiltonian systems generated by deformations of the Poisson bracket. Using results by Karasev and Vorobiev on the computation of Poisson cohomology we describe infinitesimal generators for the Lie transformations. We give applications to perturbed Euler equations on six dimensional Lie coalgebras and to Hamiltonian systems on Poisson manifolds equipped with Dirac brackets.
Given a Lie-Poisson completely integrable bi-Hamiltonian system on $\mathbb{R}^n$, we present a method which allows us to construct, under certain conditions, a completely integrable bi-Hamiltonian deformation of the initial Lie-Poisson system on a non-abelian Poisson-Lie group $G_η$ of dimension $n$, where $η\in \mathbb{R}$ is the deformation parameter. Moreover, we show that from the two multiplicative (Poisson-Lie) Hamiltonian structures on $G_η$ that underly the dynamics of the deformed system and by making use of the group law on $G_η$, one may obtain two completely integrable Hamiltonian…
We show that under certain technical assumptions any weakly nonlocal Hamiltonian structure compatible with a given nondegenerate weakly nonlocal symplectic structure $J$ can be written as the Lie derivative of $J^{-1}$ along a suitably chosen nonlocal vector field. Moreover, we present a new description for local Hamiltonian structures of arbitrary order compatible with a given nondegenerate local Hamiltonian structure of zero or first order, including Hamiltonian operators of the Dubrovin-Novikov type.
We develop a Lie algebraic approach to systematically calculate the evolution operator of the generalized two-dimensional quadratic Hamiltonian with time-dependent coefficients. Although the development of the Lie algebraic approach presented here is mainly motivated by the two-dimensional quadratic Hamiltonian, it may be applied to investigate the evolution operators of any Hamiltonian having a dynamical algebra with a large number of elements. We illustrate the method by finding the propagator and the Heisenberg picture position and momentum operators for a two-dimensional charge subject to …
A new description, different by the classical theory of Hamiltonian Mechanics, in the general framework of generalized Lie algebroids is presented. In the particular case of Lie algebroids, new and important results are obtained. We present the \emph{dual mechanical systems} called by use, \emph{dual mechanical}$(ρ,η) $\emph{-systems, Hamilton mechanical}$(ρ,η) $\emph{-systems} or \emph{% Cartan mechanical}$(ρ,η) $\emph{-systems.} and we develop their geometries. We obtain the canonical $(ρ,η) $\emph{-}semi(spray) associated to a dual mechanical $(ρ,η) $-system. The Hamilton mechanical $(ρ,η)$…
It was proposed the Lie group such that symplectic structure of orbits of co-adjoint representation of the group is revealed symplectic structure of a rigid body dynamics in quaternion variables. It is shown that Poisson brackets of corresponding Lie-Poisson structure coincide with canonical Poisson brackets on cotangent bundle of group unit quaternions.
We construct Lie algebras arising from commutators of the harmonic Hamiltonian and the perturbed anharmonic Hamiltonian. From there we form a very specific element of the associated Lie group and transform the unperturbed Hamiltonian into the perturbed Hamiltonian minus perturbation energies. An explicit formula is given for the first order perturbation energy of all Hamiltonians of the form H = a^{\dagger}a + 1/2 + λx^n.
This paper is a survey article on bi-Hamiltonian systems on the dual of the Lie algebra of vector fields on the circle. We investigate the special case where one of the structures is the canonical Lie-Poisson structure and the second one is constant. These structures called affine or modified Lie-Poisson structures are involved in the integrability of certain Euler equations that arise as models of shallow water waves.
We construct integrable Hamiltonian systems with Lie bialgebras $({\bf g} , {\bf \tilde{g}})$ of the bi-symplectic type for which the Poisson-Lie groups ${\bf G}$ play the role of the phase spaces, and their dual Lie groups ${\bf {\tilde {G}}}$ play the role of the symmetry groups of the systems. We give the new transformations to exchange the role of phase spaces and symmetry groups and obtain the relations between integrals of motions of these integrable systems. Finally, we give some examples of real four-dimensional Lie bialgebras of bi-symplectic type.
We discuss the one-dimensional, general quadratic Hamiltonian and the bi-dimensional charged particle in time-dependent electromagnetic fields through the Lie algebraic approach. Such method consists in finding a set of generators that form a closed Lie algebra in terms of which it is possible to express the Hamiltonian and the therefore the evolution operator. The evolution operator is then the starting point to obtain the propagator as well as the explicit form of the Heisenberg picture position and momentum operators. First, the set of generators forming a closed Lie algebra is identified f…
Admissible structure constants related to the dual Lie superalgebras of particular Lie superalgebra $({\cal C}^3 + {\cal A})$ are found by straightforward calculations from the matrix form of super Jacobi and mixed super Jacobi identities which are obtained from adjoint representation. Then, by making use of the automorphism supergroup of the Lie superalgebra $({\cal C}^3 + {\cal A})$, the Lie superbialgebra structures on the Lie superalgebra $({\cal C}^3 + {\cal A})$ are obtained and classified into inequivalent 31 families. We also determine all corresponding coboundary and bi-r-matrix Lie s…
We introduce natural differential geometric structures underlying the Poisson-Vlasov equations in momentum variables. We decompose the space of all vector fields over particle phase space into a semi-direct product algebra of Hamiltonian vector fields and its complement. The latter is related to dual space of Lie algebra. Lie algebra of Hamiltonian vector fields is isomorphic to the space of all Lagrangian submanifolds with respect to Tulczyjew symplectic structure. This is obtained as tangent space at the identity of the group of canonical diffeomorphisms represented as space of sections of a…
In this paper, time-independent Hamiltonian systems are investigated via a Lie-group/algebra formalism. The (unknown) solution linked with the Hamiltonian is considered to be a Lie-group transformation of the initial data, where the group parameter acts as the time. The time-evolution generator (i.e. the Lie algebra associated to the group transformation) is constructed at an algebraic level, hence avoiding discretization of the time-derivatives for the discrete case. This formalism makes it possible to investigate the continuous and discrete versions of time for time-independent Hamiltonian s…
We show that complex Lie algebras (in particular sl(2,C)) provide us with an elegant method for studying the transition from real to complex eigenvalues of a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians: complexified Scarf II, generalized Pöschl-Teller, and Morse. The characterizations of these Hamiltonians under the so-called pseudo-Hermiticity are also discussed.
In this work we introduce a novel q-deformation of the Virasoro algebra expressed in terms of free fermions, we then realize that this algebra, when the deformation parameter is a root of unity can be realized exactly on the lattice. We then study the relations existing between this lattice deformed Virasoro algebra at roots of unity and the tower of commuting Temperley-Lieb hamiltonians introduced in a previous work.
We describe the reduction procedure for a symplectic Lie algebroid by a Lie subalgebroid and a symmetry Lie group. Moreover, given an invariant Hamiltonian function we obtain the corresponding reduced Hamiltonian dynamics. Several examples illustrate the generality of the theory.
In this paper, some of formulations of Hamilton-Jacobi equations for Hamiltonian system on Lie algebroids are given. Here we use the general properties of Lie algebroids to express and prove two geometric version of the Hamilton-Jacobi theorem for Hamiltonian system on Lie algebroids. Then this results are generalized and two types of time-dependent Hamilton-Jacobi theorem of Hamiltonian system on Lie algebroids are obtained.
The powerful group theoretical formalism of potential algebras is extended to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with real eigenvalues by complexifying so(2,1), thereby getting the complex algebra sl(2,\C) or $A_1$. This leads to new types of both PT-symmetric and non-PT-symmetric Hamiltonians.
This paper analyzes the optimal control problem of cubic polynomials on compact Lie groups from a Hamiltonian point of view and its symmetries. The dynamics of the problem is described by a presymplectic formalism associated with the canonical symplectic form on the cotangent bundle of the semidirect product of the Lie group and its Lie algebra. Using these control geometric tools, the relation between the Hamiltonian approach developed here and the known variational one is analyzed. After making explicit the left trivialized system, we use the technique of Marsden-Weinstein reduction to remov…
The construction of a family of real Hamiltonian forms (RHF) for the special class of affine 1+1-dimensional Toda field theories (ATFT) is reported. Thus the method, proposed in [1] for systems with finite number of degrees of freedom is generalized to infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian systems. The construction method is illustrated on the explicit nontrivial example of RHF of ATFT related to the exceptional algebras E_6 and E_7. The involutions of the local integrals of motion are proved by means of the classical R-matrix approach.
We propose a perturbation algorithm for Hamiltonian systems on a Lie algebra $\mathbb{V}$, so that it can be applied to non-canonical Hamiltonian systems. Given a Hamiltonian system that preserves a subalgebra $\mathbb{B}$ of $\mathbb{V}$, when we add a perturbation the subalgebra $\mathbb{B}$ will no longer be preserved. We show how to transform the perturbed dynamical system to preserve $\mathbb{B}$ up to terms quadratic in the perturbation. We apply this method to study the dynamics of a non-autonomous symmetric Rigid Body. In this example our algebraic transform plays the role of Iterative…
We prove that any classical affine W-algebra W(g,f), where g is a classical Lie algebra and f is an arbitrary nilpotent element of g, carries an integrable Hamiltonian hierarchy of Lax type equations. This is based on the theories of generalized Adler type operators and of generalized quasideterminants, which we develop in the paper. Moreover, we show that under certain conditions, the product of two generalized Adler type operators is a Lax type operator. We use this fact to construct a large number of integrable Hamiltonian systems, recovering, as a special case, all KdV type hierarchies con…
In some previous papers, a Legendre duality between Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Mechanics has been developed. The (ρ,η)-tangent application of the Legendre bundle morphism associated to a Lagrangian L or Hamiltonian H is presented. Using that, a Legendre description of Lagrangian Mechanics and Hamiltonian Mechanics is developed. Duality between Lie algebroids structure, adapted (ρ,η)-basis, distinguished linear (ρ,η)-connections and mechanical (ρ,η)-systems is the scope of this paper. In the particular case of Lie algebroids, new results are presented. In the particular case of the usual Lie al…
We analyse a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, which can be expressed bilinearly in terms of generators of a sl(2,R)-Lie algebra or their isomorphic su(1,1)-counterparts. The Hamlitonians are prototypes for solvable models of Lie algebraic type. Demanding a real spectrum and the existence of a well defined metric, we systematically investigate the constraints these requirements impose on the coupling constants of the model and the parameters in the metric operator. We compute isospectral Hermitian counterparts for some of the original non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. Alternatively we employ a gen…
In this paper we use key elements of the Olver's approach to Hamiltonian evolution equations in partial derivatives and propose an algebraic construction appropriate for Hamiltonian evolution systems with constraints.
We study quantum chains whose Hamiltonians are perturbations by bounded interactions of short range of a Hamiltonian that does not couple the degrees of freedom located at different sites of the chain and has a strictly positive energy gap above its ground-state energy. We prove that, for small values of a coupling constant, the spectral gap of the perturbed Hamiltonian above its ground-state energy is bounded from below by a positive constant uniformly in the length of the chain. In our proof we use a novel method based on local Lie-Schwinger conjugations of the Hamiltonians associated with c…
We introduce the quadratic Fermi algebra, which is a Lie algebra, and show that the vacuum distributions of the associated Hamiltonians define the fermionic Meixner probability distributions. In order to emphasize the difference with the Bose case, we apply a modification of the method used in the above calculation to obtain a simple and straightforward classification of the 1--dimensional Meixner laws in terms of homogeneous quadratic expressions in the Bose creation and annihilation operators. There is a huge literature of the Meixner laws but this, purely quantum probabilistic, derivation s…
Euler's equations for a two-dimensional system can be written in Hamiltonian form, where the Poisson bracket is the Lie-Poisson bracket associated to the Lie algebra of divergence free vector fields. We show how to derive the Poisson brackets of 2d hydrodynamics of ideal fluids as a reduction from the one associated to the full algebra of vector fields. Motivated by some recent results about the deformations of Lie-Poisson brackets of vector fields, we study the dispersive deformations of the Poisson brackets of Euler's equation and show that, up to the second order, they are trivial.
The sO(3) and the Lorentz algebra symmetries breaking with gauge curvatures are studied by means of a covariant Hamiltonian. The restoration of these algebra symmetries in flat and curved spaces is performed and led to the apparition of a monopole field. Then in the context of the Lorentz algebra we consider an application to the gravitoelectromagnetism theory. In this last case a qualitative relation giving a mass spectrum for dyons is established.
We study quantum chains whose Hamiltonians are perturbations by interactions of short range of a Hamiltonian that does not couple the degrees of freedom located at different sites of the chain and has a strictly positive energy gap above its ground-state energy. For interactions that are form-bounded w.r.t. the on-site Hamiltonian terms, we prove that the spectral gap of the perturbed Hamiltonian above its ground-state energy is bounded from below by a positive constant uniformly in the length of the chain, for small values of a coupling constant. In our proof we use a novel method introduced …
We describe the procedure for obtaining Hamiltonian equations on a manifold with $so(k, m)$ Lie-Poisson bracket from a variational problem. This implies identification of the manifold with base of a properly constructed fiber bundle embedded as a surface into the phase space with canonical Poisson bracket. Our geometric construction underlies the formalism used for construction of spinning particles in [24-27], and gives precise mathematical formulation of the oldest idea about spin as the "inner angular momentum".
Via a special dimensional reduction, that is, Fourier transforming over one of the coordinates of Casimir operator of su(2) Lie algebra and 4-oscillator Hamiltonian, we have obtained 2 and 3 dimensional Hamiltonian with shape invariance symmetry. Using this symmetry we have obtained their eigenspectrum. In the mean time we show equivalence of shape invariance symmetry and Lie algebraic symmetry of these Hamiltonians.
We observe that a system of irreducible, fiber-linear, first class constraints on T*M is equivalent to the definition of a foliation Lie algebroid over M. The BFV formulation of the constrained system is given by the Hamiltonian lift of the Vaintrob description (E[1],Q) of the Lie algebroid to its cotangent bundle T*E[1]. Affine deformations of the constraints are parametrized by the first Lie algebroid cohomology H^1_Q and lead to irreducible constraints also for much more general Lie algebroids such as Dirac structures; the modified BFV function follows by the addition of a representative of…
