In this paper, time-independent Hamiltonian systems are investigated via a Lie-group/algebra formalism. The (unknown) solution linked with the Hamiltonian is considered to be a Lie-group transformation of the initial data, where the group parameter acts as the time. The time-evolution generator (i.e. the Lie algebra associated to the group transformation) is constructed at an algebraic level, hence avoiding discretization of the time-derivatives for the discrete case. This formalism makes it possible to investigate the continuous and discrete versions of time for time-independent Hamiltonian systems and no additional information on the system is required (besides the Hamiltonian itself and the initial conditions of the solution). When the time-independent Hamiltonian system is integrable in the sense of Liouville, one can use the action-angle coordinates to straighten the time-evolution generator and construct an exact scheme (i.e. a scheme without errors). In addition, a method to analyse the errors of approximative/numerical schemes is provided. These considerations are applied to well-known examples associated with the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator.
We briefly review two different methods of applying Lie group theory in the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations. On specific examples we show how the symmetry preserving discretization provides difference schemes for which the "first differential approximation" is invariant under the same Lie group as the original ordinary differential equation.
In the late 80s - early 90s J. Moser and A. P. Veselov considered Lagrangian discrete systems on Lie groups with additional symmetry conditions imposed on Lagrangians. They observed that such systems are often integrable time-discretizations of integrable Euler equations on these Lie groups. In recent papers we studied Lagrangian discrete systems with additional symmetry requirements on certain infinite-dimensional Lie groups. We will discuss some interesting properties of these systems.
We show how to descritize the Korteweg-de Vries equation in such a way as to preserve all the Lie point symmetries of the continuous differential equation. It is shown that, for a centered implicit scheme, there are at least two possible ways of doing so.
The discrete orthogonality of special function families, called $C$- and $S$-functions, which are derived from the characters of compact simple Lie groups, is described in Hrivnák and Patera (2009 J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 42 385208). Here, the results of Hrivnák and Patera are extended to two additional recently discovered families of special functions, called $S^s-$ and $S^l-$functions. The main result is an explicit description of their pairwise discrete orthogonality within each family, when the functions are sampled on finite fragments $F^s_M$ and $F^l_M$ of a lattice in any dimension $n\g…
Two Lie algebraic forms of the 2-body Elliptic Calogero model are presented. Translation-invariant and dilatation-invariant discretizations of the model are obtained.
Ten types of discrete Fourier transforms of Weyl orbit functions are developed. Generalizing one-dimensional cosine, sine and exponential, each type of the Weyl orbit function represents an exponential symmetrized with respect to a subgroup of the Weyl group. Fundamental domains of even affine and dual even affine Weyl groups, governing the argument and label symmetries of the even orbit functions, are determined. The discrete orthogonality relations are formulated on finite sets of points from the refinements of the dual weight lattices. Explicit counting formulas for the number of points of …
Three types of numerical data are provided for simple Lie groups of any type and rank. This data is indispensable for Fourier-like expansions of multidimensional digital data into finite series of $C-$ or $S-$functions on the fundamental domain $F$ of the underlying Lie group $G$. Firstly, we consider the number $|F_M|$ of points in $F$ from the lattice $P^{\vee}_M$, which is the refinement of the dual weight lattice $P^{\vee}$ of $G$ by a positive integer $M$. Secondly, we find the lowest set $Λ_M$ of dominant weights, specifying the maximal set of $C-$ and $S-$functions that are pairwise ort…
Three types of numerical data are provided for compact simple Lie groups $G$ of classical types and of any rank. Nonlinear ODEs invariant under the group SL(2,R) are solved numerically. We show that solution methods incorporating the Lie point symmetries provide better results than standard methods.
A new kind of graded Lie algebra (we call it $Z_{2,2}$ graded Lie algebra) is introduced as a framework for formulating parasupersymmetric theories. By choosing suitable bose subspace of the $Z_{2,2}$ graded Lie algebra and using relevant generalized Jacobi identities, we generate the whole algebraic structure of parastatistics.
The Calogero type matrix discretization scheme is applied to constructing the Lax type integrable discretizations of one wide enough class of nonlinear integrable dynamical systems on functional manifolds. Their Lie-algebraic structure and complete integrability related with co-adjoint orbits on the Markov co-algebras is discussed. It is shown that a set of conservation laws and the associated Poisson structure ensue as a byproduct of the approach devised. Based on the Lie algebras quasi-representation property the limiting procedure of finding the nonlinear dynamical systems on the correspond…
We develop a Lie algebraic approach to systematically calculate the evolution operator of the generalized two-dimensional quadratic Hamiltonian with time-dependent coefficients. Although the development of the Lie algebraic approach presented here is mainly motivated by the two-dimensional quadratic Hamiltonian, it may be applied to investigate the evolution operators of any Hamiltonian having a dynamical algebra with a large number of elements. We illustrate the method by finding the propagator and the Heisenberg picture position and momentum operators for a two-dimensional charge subject to …
Degenerations, contractions and deformations of various algebraic structures play an important role in mathematics and physics. There are many different definitions and special cases of these notions. We try to give a general definition which unifies these notions and shows the connections among them. Here we focus on contractions of Lie algebras and algebraic groups.
We will show the usefulness of the tools of Symplectic and Presymplectic Geometry and the corresponding Lie algebraic methods in different problems in Geometric Optics.
A regular approach to studying the Lax type integrability of the AKNS hierarchy of nonlinear Lax type integrable dynamical systems in the vertex operator representation is devised. The relationship with the Lie-algebraic integrability scheme is analyzed, the connection with the tau-function representation is briefly discussed.
We give a brief introduction to Hamiltonian optics and Lie algebraic methods. We use these methods to describe the operators governing light propagation, refraction and reflection in phase space. The method offers a systematic way to find aberration coefficients of any order for arbitrary rotationally symmetric optical systems. The coefficients from the Lie method are linked to the Seidel aberration coefficients. Furthermore, the property of summing individual surface contributions is preserved by the Lie algebraic theory. Three examples are given to validate the proposed methodology with good…
Analytical solutions for time-inhomogeneous linear birth-death processes with immigration are derived. While time-inhomogeneous linear birth-death processes without immigration have been studied by using a generating function approach, the processes with immigration are here analyzed by Lie algebraic discussions. As a result, a restriction for time-inhomogeneity of the birth-death process is understood from the viewpoint of the finiteness of the dimensionality of the Lie algebra.
A procedure for obtaining a "minimal" discretization of a partial differential equation, preserving all of its Lie point symmetries is presented. "Minimal" in this case means that the differential equation is replaced by a partial difference scheme involving N difference equations, where N is the number of independent and dependent variable. We restrict to one scalar function of two independent variables. As examples, invariant discretizations of the heat, Burgers and Korteweg-de Vries equations are presented. Some exact solutions of the discrete schemes are obtained.
The Newton equation describing the particle motion in constant external field force on canonical, Lie-algebraic and quadratic space-time is investigated. We show that for canonical deformation of space-time the dynamical effects are absent, while in the case of Lie-algebraic noncommutativity, when spatial coordinates commute to the time variable, the additional acceleration of particle is generated. We also indicate, that in the case of spatial coordinates commuting in Lie-algebraic way, as well as for quadratic deformation, there appear additional velocity and position-dependent forces.
We present Lie-algebraic deformations of Minkowski space with undeformed Poincaré algebra. These deformations interpolate between Snyder and $κ$-Minkowski space. We find realizations of noncommutative coordinates in terms of commutative coordinates and derivatives. Invariants and tensors with respect to Lorentz algebra are discussed. A general mapping from $κ$-deformed Snyder to Snyder space is constructed. Deformed Leibniz rule, the coproduct structure and star product are found. Special cases, particularly Snyder and $κ$-Minkowski in Maggiore-type realizations are discussed.
We propose canonical and Lie-algebraic twist deformations of $κ$-deformed Poincare Hopf algebra which leads to the generalized $κ$-Minkowski space-time relations. The corresponding deformed $κ$-Poincare quantum groups are also calculated. Finally, we perform the nonrelativistic contraction limit to the corresponding twisted Galilean algebras and dual Galilean quantum groups.
The generic Heun operator of Lie type is identified as a certain $BC$-Gaudin magnet Hamiltonian in a magnetic field. By using the modified algebraic Bethe ansatz introduced to diagonalize such Gaudin models, we obtain the spectrum of the generic Heun operator of Lie type in terms of the Bethe roots of inhomogeneous Bethe equations. We show also that these Bethe roots are intimately associated to the roots of polynomial solutions of the differential Heun equation. We illustrate the use of this approach in two contexts: the representation theory of $O(3)$ and the computation of the entanglement …
We propose the method for obtaining invariants of arbitrary representations of Lie groups that reduces this problem to known problems of linear algebra. The basis of this method is the idea of a special extension of the representation space, which allows us to regard it as a coalgebra of some Lie algebra. In its turn, this allows us to reduce the problem of constructing invariants of a given representation to the problem of constructing invariants of the coadjoint representation of the corresponding Lie group. In our previous paper it was shown that this problem can always be solved in a natur…
We prove that the scalar and $2\times 2$ matrix differential operators which preserve the simplest scalar and vector-valued polynomial modules in two variables have a fundamental Lie algebraic structure. Our approach is based on a general graphical method which does not require the modules to be irreducible under the action of the corresponding Lie (super)algebra. This method can be generalized to modules of polynomials in an arbitrary number of variables. We give generic examples of partially solvable differential operators which are not Lie algebraic. We show that certain vector-valued modul…
In this review article, first we give the concrete formulas of representations and cohomologies of associative algebras, Lie algebras, pre-Lie algebras, Leibniz algebras and 3-Lie algebras and some of their strong homotopy analogues. Then we recall the graded Lie algebras and graded associative algebras that characterize these algebraic structures as Maurer-Cartan elements. The corresponding Maurer-Cartan element equips the graded Lie or associative algebra with a differential. Then the deformations of the given algebraic structures are characterized as the Maurer-Cartan elements of the result…
We show that complex Lie algebras (in particular sl(2,C)) provide us with an elegant method for studying the transition from real to complex eigenvalues of a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians: complexified Scarf II, generalized Pöschl-Teller, and Morse. The characterizations of these Hamiltonians under the so-called pseudo-Hermiticity are also discussed.
A general formula is calculated for the connection of a central metric w.r.t.\ a noncommutative spacetime of Lie-algebraic type. This is done by using the framework of linear connections on central bi-modules. The general formula is further on used to calculate the corresponding Riemann tensor and prove the corresponding Bianchi identities and certain symmetries that are essential to obtain a symmetric and divergenceless Einstein Tensor. In particular, the obtained Einstein Tensor is not equivalent to the sum of the noncommutative Riemann tensor and scalar, as in the commutative case, but in a…
The Kondo problem is studied using the unitary Lie algebra of spin-singlet fermion bilinears. In the limit when the number of values of the spin $N$ goes to infinity the theory approaches a classical limit, which still requires a renormalization. We determine the ground state of this renormalized theory. Then we construct a quantum theory around this classical limit, which amounts to recovering the case of finite $N$.
