备注:
36 pages, 3 figures; some new material included -- a quaternionic two-qubit example, a new set of simplified integration limits for two-qubit density matrices, and an analytically-derived (approximate) separability function containing incomplete beta functions
We list in increasing order -- 1/3, 3/8, 2/5, 135 pi/1024, 16/(3 pi^2), 3 pi/16, 5/8, 105 pi/512, 2 - 435 pi/1024, 11/16, 1 -- a number of exact two-qubit Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) separability probabilities, we are able to compute. Each probability corresponds to a specific scenario -- a class of 4 x 4 density matrices (rho) with an m-subset (m<6) of its six off-diagonal pairs of symmetrically located entries set to zero. Initially, we consider only scenarios in which the (6-m) non-nullified pairs are real, but then permit them to be complex (as well as quaternionic) in nature also. The general analytical strategy we implement is based on the Bloore density matrix parameterization (J. Phys. A, 9, 2059 [1976]), allowing us to conveniently reduce the dimensionalities of required integrations. For each scenario, we identify a certain univariate ``separability function'' S_{scenario}(nu), where nu = rho_{11} rho_{44}/(rho_{22} rho_{33}). The integral over nu in [0,infty] of the product of this function with a scenario-specific (marginal) jacobian function J_{scenario}(nu) yields the HS {separable} volume (V^{HS}_{sep}). The ratio of V^{HS}_{sep} to the HS total (entangled and non-entangled) volume, gives us the HS scenario-specific separability probability. Among the possible forms that we have so far determined for S_{scenario}(nu) are piecewise combinations of c, c sqrt{nu} and c nu for nu in [0,1] and (in a dual manner) c, c/sqrt{nu} and c/nu for nu in [1,infty]. We also obtain bivariate separability functions S_{scenario)^{6 x 6}(nu_{1},nu_{2}} in the qubit-qutrit case, involving 6 x 6 density matrices, with ratio variables, nu_{1}= rho_{11} rho_{55}/(rho_{22} rho_{44}), and nu_{2}= rho_{22} rho_{66}/(rho_{33} rho_{55}). Additionally, we investigate parallel two-qutrit and three-qubit problems.
We present an analysis of noisy atomic channels involving qutrits. We choose a three-level atom with V-configuration to be the qutrit state. Gell-Mann matrices and a generalized Bloch vector (8-dimensional) are used to describe the qutrit density operator. We introduce quantum quasi-distributions for qutrits that provide a simple description of entanglement. Studying the time-evolution for the atomic variables we find the Kraus representation of spontaneous emission quantum channel (SE channel). Furthermore, we consider a generalized Werner state of two qutrits and investigate the separability…
We present an extension of the Wootters concurrence for the case of two qutrits in mixed states. The reduction of our extension to the case of two levels shows complete agreement with Wootters concurrence for two qubits. As an explicit example, we compute the concurrence for a family of symmetric states and we obtain the bounds on the limit for separability. Our results are compared with those of the negativity.
The question of the generation of random mixed states is discussed, aiming for the computation of probabilistic characteristics of composite finite dimensional quantum systems. Particularly, we consider the generation of the random Hilbert-Schmidt and Bures ensembles of qubit and qutrit pairs and compute the corresponding probabilities to find a separable state among the states of a fixed rank.
We define the separability and entanglement notion for particle with spin $s=1$. We consider two cases. In the first the particle is composed of two fermions with $s_1=1/2$ and $s_2=1/2$. In the second case the state is the qutrit state which is not composed system. The notion of negativity and concurrence is defined for the qutrit state. The concurrence and negativity of entangled and separable qutrit states determined by the parameters of the density matrix are explicitly calculated. The maximum entanglement of the qutrit state is observed for maximum values of non diagonal matrix elements o…
We consider the separability of various joint states for N qutrits. We derive two results: (i) the separability condition for a two-qutrit state that is a mixture of the maximally mixed state and a maximally entangled state (such a state is a generalization of the Werner state for two qubits); (ii) upper and lower bounds on the size of the neighborhood of separable states surrounding the maximally mixed state for N qutrits.
With a probability of success of $95 \%$ we solve the separability problem for Bell diagonal qutrit states with positive partial transposition (PPT). The separability problem, i.e. distinguishing separable and entangled states, generally lacks an efficient solution due to the existence of bound entangled states. In contrast to free entangled states that can be used for entanglement distillation via local operations and classical communication, these states cannot be detected by the Peres-Horodecki criterion or PPT criterion. We analyze a large family of bipartite qutrit states that can be sepa…
We examine the geometric structure of qutrit state space by identifying the outcome probabilities of symmetric informationally complete (SIC) measurements with quantum states. We categorize the infinitely many qutrit SICs into eight SIC families corresponding to independent orbits of the extended Clifford group. Every SIC can be uniquely identified from a set of geometric invariants that we use to establish several properties of the convex body of qutrits, which include a simple formula describing its extreme points, an expression for the rotation between the probability vectors for distinct q…
Paralleling our recent computationally-intensive (quasi-Monte Carlo) work for the case N=4 (quant-ph/0308037), we undertake the task for N=6 of computing to high numerical accuracy, the formulas of Sommers and Zyczkowski (quant-ph/0304041) for the (N^2-1)-dimensional volume and (N^2-2)-dimensional hyperarea of the (separable and nonseparable) N x N density matrices, based on the Bures (minimal monotone) metric -- and also their analogous formulas (quant-ph/0302197) for the (non-monotone) Hilbert-Schmidt metric. With the same seven billion well-distributed (``low-discrepancy'') sample points, w…
Milz and Strunz ({\it J. Phys. A}: {\bf{48}} [2015] 035306) recently studied the probabilities that two-qubit and qubit-qutrit states, randomly generated with respect to Hilbert-Schmidt (Euclidean/flat) measure, are separable. They concluded that in both cases, the separability probabilities (apparently exactly $\frac{8}{33}$ in the two-qubit scenario) hold {\it constant} over the Bloch radii ($r$) of the single-qubit subsystems, jumping to 1 at the pure state boundaries ($r=1$). Here, firstly, we present evidence that in the qubit-qutrit case, the separability probability is uniformly distrib…
We express the matrix elements of the density matrix of the qutrit state in terms of probabilities associated with artificial qubit states. We show that the quantum statistics of qubit states and observables is formally equivalent to the statistics of classical systems with three random vector variables and three classical probability distributions obeying special constrains found in this study. The Bloch spheres geometry of qubit states is mapped onto triangle geometry of qubits. We investigate the triada of Malevich's squares describing the qubit states in quantum suprematism picture and the…
We investigate the geometric characterization of pure state bipartite entanglement of $(2\times{D})$- and $(3\times{D})$-dimensional composite quantum systems. To this aim, we analyze the relationship between states and their images under the action of particular classes of local unitary operations. We find that invariance of states under the action of single-qubit and single-qutrit transformations is a necessary and sufficient condition for separability. We demonstrate that in the $(2\times{D})$-dimensional case the von Neumann entropy of entanglement is a monotonic function of the minimum sq…
We conduct quasi-Monte Carlo numerical integrations in two very high (80 and 79)-dimensional domains -- the parameter spaces of rank-9 and rank-8 qutrit-qutrit (9 x 9) density matrices. We, then, estimate the ratio of the probability -- in terms of the Hilbert-Schmidt metric -- that a generic rank-9 density matrix has a positive partial transpose (PPT) to the probability that a generic rank-8 density matrix has a PPT (a precondition to separability/nonentanglement). Close examination of the numerical results generated -- despite certain large fluctuations -- indicates that the true ratio may, …
We give a general proof that Hughston's stochastic extension of the Schrödinger equation leads to state vector collapse to energy eigenstates, with collapse probabilities given by the quantum mechanical probabilities computed from the initial state. We also show that for a system composed of independent subsystems, Hughston's equation separates into similar independent equations for the each of the subsystems, correlated only through the common Wiener process that drives the state reduction.
For any unitarily invariant convex function F on the states of a composite quantum system which isolates the trace there is a critical constant C such that F(w)<= C for a state w implies that w is not entangled; and for any possible D > C there are entangled states v with F(v)=D. Upper- and lower bounds on C are given. The critical values of some F's for qubit/qubit and qubit/qutrit bipartite systems are computed. Simple conditions on the spectrum of a state guaranteeing separability are obtained. It is shown that the thermal equilbrium states specified by any Hamiltonian of an arbitrary compo…
The Horodecki family employed the Jaynes maximum-entropy principle, fitting the mean (b_{1}) of the Bell-CHSH observable (B). This model was extended by Rajagopal by incorporating the dispersion (σ_{1}^2) of the observable, and by Canosa and Rossignoli, by generalizing the observable (B_α). We further extend the Horodecki one-parameter model in both these manners, obtaining a three-parameter (b_{1},σ_{1}^2,α) two-qubit model, for which we find a highly interesting/intricate continuum (-\infty < α< \infty) of Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) separability probabilities -- in which, the golden ratio is featu…
We extend to arbitrarily coupled pairs of qubits (two-state quantum systems) and qutrits (three-state quantum systems) our earlier study (quant-ph/0207181), which was concerned with the simplest instance of entangled quantum systems, pairs of qubits. As in that analysis -- again on the basis of numerical (quasi-Monte Carlo) integration results, but now in a still higher-dimensional space (35-d vs. 15-d) -- we examine a conjecture that the Bures/SD (statistical distinguishability) probability that arbitrarily paired qubits and qutrits are separable (unentangled) has a simple exact value, u/(v P…
A confluence of numerical and theoretical results leads us to conjecture that the Hilbert-Schmidt separability probabilities of the 15- and 9-dimensional convex sets of complex and real two-qubit states (representable by 4 x 4 density matrices rho) are 8/33 and 8/17, respectively. Central to our reasoning are the modifications of two ansatze, recently advanced (quant-ph/0609006), involving incomplete beta functions B_{nu}(a,b), where nu= (rho_{11} rho_{44})/(rho_{22} rho_{33}). We, now, set the separability function S_{real}(nu) propto B_{nu}(nu,1/2},2) =(2/3) (3-nu) sqrt{nu}. Then, in the com…
Bell-Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality (in terms of correlation functions) of two qutrits is studied in detail by employing tritter measurements. A uniform formula for the maximum value of this inequality for tritter measurements is obtained. Based on this formula, we show that non-maximally entangled states violate the Bell-CHSH inequality more strongly than the maximally entangled one. This result is consistent with what was obtained by Ac{í}n {\it et al} [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 65}, 052325 (2002)] using the Bell-Clauser-Horne inequality (in terms of probabilities).
Two qubit operation sharing schemes [J. Phys. B 44 (2011) 165508] are generalized to qutrit ones. Operations to be shared are classified into three different classes in terms of different probabilities (i.e, 1/3, 2/3 and 1). For the latter two classes, ten and three restricted sets of operations are found out, respectively. Moreover, the two generalized schemes are amply compared from four aspects, namely, quantum and classical resource consumption, necessaryoperation complexity, success probability and efficiency. It is found that the second scheme is overall more optimal than the first one a…
In a number of previous studies, we have investigated the use of the volume element of the Bures (minimal monotone) metric -- identically, one-fourth of the statistical distinguishability (SD) metric -- as a natural measure over the (n^2-1)-dimensional convex set of n x n density matrices. This has led us for the cases n = 4 and 6 to estimates of the prior (Bures/SD) probabilities that qubit-qubit and qubit-qutrit pairs are separable. Here, we extend this work from such bipartite systems to the tripartite "laboratory'' quantum systems possessing U x U x U symmetry recently constructed by Eggel…
We revisit the relationship between quantum separability and the sign of the relative q-entropies of composite quantum systems. The q-entropies depend on the density matrix eigenvalues p_i through the quantity omega_q = sum_i p_i^q. Renyi's and Tsallis' measures constitute particular instances of these entropies. We perform a systematic numerical survey of the space of mixed states of two-qubit systems in order to determine, as a function of the degree of mixture, and for different values of the entropic parameter q, the volume in state space occupied by those states characterized by positive …
Substantial progress has recently been reported in the determination of the Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) separability probabilities for two-qubit and qubit-qutrit (real, complex and quaternionic) systems. An important theoretical concept employed has been that of a separability function. It appears that if one could analogously obtain separability functions parameterized by the eigenvalues of the density matrices in question--rather than the diagonal entries, as originally used--comparable progress could be achieved in obtaining separability probabilities based on the broad, interesting class of monot…

We investigate the possibility of deriving analytical formulas for the 15-dimensional separable volumes, in terms of any of a number of metrics of interest (Hilbert-Schmidt [HS], Bures,...), of the two-qubit (four-level) systems. This would appear to require 15-fold symbolic integrations over a complicated convex body (defined by both separability and feasibility constraints). The associated 15-dimensional integrands -- in terms of the Tilma-Byrd-Sudarshan Euler-angle-based parameterization of the 4 x 4 density matrices ρ(math-ph/0202002) -- would be the products of 12-dimensional Haar measure…
We implement a procedure-based on the Wishart-Laguerre distribution-recently outlined by {Ż}yczkowski and Khvedelidze, Rogojin and Abgaryan, for the generation of random (complex or real) $N \times N$ density matrices of rank $k \leq N$ with respect to Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) measure. In the complex case, one commences with a Ginibre matrix $A$ of dimensions $k \times k+ 2 (N-k)$, while for a real scenario, one employs a Ginibre matrix $B$ of dimensions $k \times k+1+ 2 (N-k)$. Then, the $k \times k$ product $A A^{\dagger}$ or $B B^T$ is diagonalized-padded with zeros to size $N \times N$-and rot…
Jakobczyk and Siennicki studied two-dimensional sections of a set of (generalized) Bloch vectors corresponding to n x n density matrices of two-qubit systems (that is, the case n = 4). They found essentially five different types of (nontrivial) separability regimes. We compute the Euclidean/Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) separability probabilities assigned to these regimes, and conduct parallel two-dimensional sectional analyses for the higher-level cases n=6,8,9 and 10. Making use of the newly-introduced capability for integration over implicitly defined regions of version 5.1 of Mathematica -- also fr…
Paralleling our recent computationally-intensive work for the case N=4 (quant-ph/0308037), we undertake the task for N=6 of computing to high numerical accuracy, the formulas of Sommers and Zyczkowski (quant-ph/0304041) for the (N^2-1)-dimensional volume and (N^2-2)-dimensional hyperarea of the (separable and nonseparable) N x N density matrices, based on the Bures (minimal monotone) metric. At the same time, we estimate the unknown volumes and hyperareas based on a number of other monotone metrics of interest. Additionally, we estimate -- but with perhaps unavoidably diminished accuracy -- al…
Multi-mode entangled coherent states are important resources for linear optics quantum computation and teleportation. Here we introduce the generalized balanced N-mode coherent states which recast in the multi-qudit case. The necessary and sufficient condition for bi-separability of such balanced N-mode coherent states is found. We particularly focus on pure and mixed multi-qubit and multi-qutrit like states and examine the degree of bipartite as well as tripartite entanglement using the concurrence measure. Unlike the N-qubit case, it is shown that there are qutrit states violating monogamy i…
We compute the probability that a bipartite quantum state is separable by Monte Carlo sampling. This is carried out for rebits, qubits and quaterbits. We sampled $5\times 10^{11}$ points for each of these three cases. The results strongly support conjectures for certain rational values of these probabilities that have been found by other methods.
Due to recent important work of Zyczkowski and Sommers (quant-ph/0302197 and quant-ph/0304041), exact formulas are available (both in terms of the Hilbert-Schmidt and Bures metrics) for the (n^2-1)-dimensional and (n(n-1)/2-1)-dimensional volumes of the complex and real n x n density matrices. However, no comparable formulas are available for the volumes (and, hence, probabilities) of various separable subsets of them. We seek to clarify this situation for the Hilbert-Schmidt metric for the simplest possible case of n=4, that is, the two-qubit systems. Making use of the density matrix (rho) pa…
We report substantial progress in the study of separability functions and their application to the computation of separability probabilities for the real, complex and quaternionic qubit-qubit and qubit-qutrit systems. We expand our recent work (arXiv:0704.3723), in which the Dyson indices of random matrix theory played an essential role, to include the use of not only the volume element of the Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) metric, but also that of the Bures (minimal monotone) metric as measures over these finite-dimensional quantum systems. Further, we now employ the Euler-angle parameterization of den…
Firstly, we reduce the long-standing problem of ascertaining the Hilbert-Schmidt probability that a generic pair of qubits is separable to that of determining the specific nature of a one-dimensional (separability) function of the radial coordinate (r) of the unit ball in 15-dimensional Euclidean space, and similarly for a generic pair of rebits, using the 9-dimensional unit ball. Separability probabilities, could, then, be directly obtained by integrating the products of these functions (which we numerically estimate and plot) with jacobian factors of r^m over r in [0,1], with m=17 for the tw…
One-time tables are a class of two-party correlations that can help achieve information-theoretically secure two-party (interactive) classical or quantum computation. In this work we propose a bipartite quantum protocol for generating a simple type of one-time tables (the correlation in the Popescu-Rohrlich nonlocal box) with partial security. We then show that by running many instances of the first protocol and performing checks on some of them, asymptotically information-theoretically secure generation of one-time tables can be achieved. The first protocol is adapted from a protocol for semi…
Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) decompositions are employed for analyzing systems of n-qubits, and a qubit with a qudit. Negative eigenvalues, obtained by partial-transpose (PT) plus local unitary transformations (PTU) for one qubit from the whole system, are used for indicating inseparability. A sufficient criterion for full separability of the n-qubits and qubit-qudit systems is given. We use the singular value decomposition (SVD) for improving the criterion for full separability. General properties of entanglement and separability are analyzed for a system of a qubit and a qudit and n-qubits systems, …
We significantly advance the research program initiated in "Moment-Based Evidence for Simple Rational-Valued Hilbert-Schmidt Generic 2 x 2 Separability Probabilities" (J. Phys. A, 45, 095305 [2012]). A function P(alpha), incorporating a family of six hypergeometric functions, all with argument 27/64 =(3/4)^3, is obtained here. It reproduces a series, alpha = 1/2, 1, 3/2, 2,...,32$, of sixty-four Hilbert-Schmidt generic 2 x 2 generalized separability probabilities, advanced on the basis of systematic high-accuracy probability-distribution-reconstruction computations, employing 7,501 determinant…
We report major advances in the research program initiated in "Moment-Based Evidence for Simple Rational-Valued Hilbert-Schmidt Generic 2 x 2 Separability Probabilities" (J. Phys. A, 45, 095305 [2012]). A highly succinct separability probability function P(alpha) is put forth, yielding for generic (9-dimensional) two-rebit systems, P(1/2) = 29/64, (15-dimensional) two-qubit systems, P(1) = 8/33 and (27-dimensional) two-quater(nionic)bit systems, P(2)=26/323. This particular form of P(alpha) was obtained by Qing-Hu Hou and colleagues by applying Zeilberger's algorithm ("creative telescoping") t…
We conduct a pair of quasirandom estimations of the separability probabilities with respect to ten measures on the 15-dimensional convex set of two-qubit states, using its Euler-angle parameterization. The measures include the (non-monotone) Hilbert-Schmidt one, plus nine others based on operator monotone functions. Our results are supportive of previous assertions that the Hilbert-Schmidt and Bures (minimal monotone) separability probabilities are $\frac{8}{33} \approx 0.242424$ and $\frac{25}{341} \approx 0.0733138$, respectively, as well as suggestive of the Wigner-Yanase counterpart being …
The probability that a generic real, complex or quaternionic two-qubit state is separable can be considered to be the sum of three contributions. One is from those states that are absolutely separable, that is those (which can not be entangled by unitary transformations) for which the maximal concurrence over spectral orbits (C_{max}) is zero. The other two contributions are from the states for which C_{max} in [0,1/2], and for which C_{max} in [1/2,1]. We have previously (arXiv:0805.0267) found exact formulas for the absolutely separable contributions in terms of the Hilbert-Schmidt metric ov…
A new geometric representation of qubit and qutrit states based on probability simplexes is used to describe the separability and entanglement properties of density matrices of two qubits. The Peres--Horodecki positive partial transpose (ppt)-criterion and the concurrence inequalities are formulated as the conditions that the introduced probability distributions must satisfy to present entanglement. A four-level system, where one or two states are inaccessible, is considered as an example of applying the elaborated probability approach in an explicit form. The areas of three Triadas of Malevic…
We extend the findings and analyses of our two recent studies (Phys. Rev. A, 75, 032326 [2007] and arXiv:0704.3723) by, first, obtaining numerical estimates of the separability function based on the (Euclidean, flat) Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) metric for the 27-dimensional convex set of quaternionic two-qubit systems. The estimated function appears to be strongly consistent with our previously-formulated Dyson-index (beta = 1, 2, 4) ansatz, dictating that the quaternionic (beta=4) separability function should be exactly proportional to the square of the separability function for the 15-dimensional c…
We detect a certain pattern of behavior of separability probabilities $p(r_A,r_B)$ for two-qubit systems endowed with Hilbert-Schmidt, and more generally, random induced measures, where $r_A$ and $r_B$ are the Bloch radii ($0 \leq r_A,r_B \leq 1$) of the qubit reduced states ($A,B$). We observe a relative repulsion of radii effect, that is $p(r_A,r_A) < p(r_A,1-r_A)$, except for rather narrow "crossover" intervals $[\tilde{r}_A,\frac{1}{2}]$. Among the seven specific cases we study are, firstly, the "toy" seven-dimensional $X$-states model and, then, the fifteen-dimensional two-qubit states ob…
We employ a quasirandom methodology, recently developed by Martin Roberts, to estimate the separability probabilities, with respect to the Bures (minimal monotone/statistical distinguishability) measure, of generic two-qubit and two-rebit states. This procedure, based on generalized properties of the golden ratio, yielded, in the course of almost seventeen billion iterations (recorded at intervals of five million), two-qubit estimates repeatedly close to nine decimal places to $\frac{25}{341} =\frac{5^2}{11 \cdot 31} \approx 0.073313783$. Howeer, despite the use of over twenty-three billion it…
We begin by seeking the qubit-qutrit and rebit-retrit counterparts to the now well-established Hilbert-Schmidt separability probabilities for (the 15-dimensional convex set of) two-qubits of $\frac{8}{33} = \frac{2^3}{3 \cdot 11} \approx 0.242424$ and (the 9-dimensional) two-rebits of $\frac{29}{64} =\frac{29}{2^6} \approx 0.453125$. Based in part on extensive numerical computations, we advance the possibilities of a qubit-qutrit value of $\frac{27}{1000} = (\frac{3}{10})^3 =\frac{3^3}{2^3 \cdot 5^3} = 0.027$ and a rebit-retrit one of $\frac{860}{6561} =\frac{2^2 \cdot 5 \cdot 43}{3^8} \approx…
We first seek the rebit-retrit counterpart to the (formally proven by Lovas and Andai) two-rebit Hilbert-Schmidt separability probability of $\frac{29}{64} =\frac{29}{2^6} \approx 0.453125$ and the qubit-qutrit analogue of the (strongly supported) value of $\frac{8}{33} = \frac{2^3}{3 \cdot 11} \approx 0.242424$. We advance the possibilities of a rebit-retrit value of $\frac{860}{6561} =\frac{2^2 \cdot 5 \cdot 43}{3^8} \approx 0.131078$ and a qubit-qutrit one of $\frac{27}{1000} = (\frac{3}{10})^3 =\frac{3^3}{2^3 \cdot 5^3} = 0.027$. These four values for $2 \times m$ systems ($m=2,3$) suggest…
Previously, a formula, incorporating a $5F4$ hypergeometric function, for the Hilbert-Schmidt-averaged determinantal moments $\left\langle \left\vert ρ^{PT}\right\vert ^{n}\left\vert ρ\right\vert ^{k}\right\rangle /\left\langle \left\vert ρ\right\vert ^{k}\right\rangle$ of $4 \times 4$ density-matrices ($ρ$), and their partial transposes ($ρ^{PT}|$) was applied with $k=0$ to the generalized two-qubit separability-probability question. The formula can, further, be viewed we note here, as an averaging over "induced measures in the space of mixed quantum states". The associated induced-measure se…
Compelling evidence-though yet no formal proof-has been adduced that the probability that a generic (standard) two-qubit state ($ρ$) is separable/disentangled is $\frac{8}{33}$ (arXiv:1301.6617, arXiv:1109.2560, arXiv:0704.3723). Proceeding in related analytical frameworks, using a further determinantal $4F3$-hypergeometric moment formula (Appendix A), we reach, {\it via} density-approximation procedures, the conclusion that one-half ($\frac{4}{33}$) of this probability arises when the determinantal inequality $|ρ^{PT}|>|ρ|$, where $PT$ denotes the partial transpose, is satisfied, and, the oth…
We reexamine a recent analysis in which, using the volume of the associated quantum steering ellipsoid (QES) as a measure, we sought to estimate the probability that a two-qubit state is separable. In the estimation process, we, in effect, sought to attach to states random with respect to Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) measure, the corresponding QES volumes. However, a study of the relations between HS and Bures ensembles and their well-supported separability probabilities of $\frac{8}{33}$ and $\frac{25}{341}$, respectively, now lead us to explore as a possible alternative measure, the QES volume divid…
In previous studies, we have explored the ansatz that the volume elements of the Bures metrics over quantum systems might serve as prior distributions, in analogy to the (classical) Bayesian role of the volume elements ("Jeffreys' priors") of Fisher information metrics. Continuing this work, we obtain exact Bures probabilities that the members of certain low-dimensional subsets of the fifteen-dimensional convex set of 4 x 4 density matrices are separable or classically correlated. The main analytical tools employed are symbolic integration and a formula of Dittmann (quant-ph/9908044) for Bures…
In a previous study (quant-ph/0207181), we formulated a conjecture that arbitrarily coupled qubits (describable by 4 x 4 density matrices) are separable with an a priori probability of 8/(11 π^2) = 0.0736881. For this purpose, we employed the normalized volume element of the Bures (minimal monotone) metric as a probability distribution over the fifteen-dimensional convex set of 4 x 4 density matrices. Here, we provide further/independent (quasi-Monte Carlo numerical integration) evidence of a stronger nature (giving an estimate of 0.0736858 vs. 0.0737012 previously) for this conjecture. Additi…
We report a concise answer--in the case of 2 x 2 systems--to the fundamental quantum-information-theoretic question as to "the volume of separable states" posed by Zyczkowski, Horodecki, Sanpera and Lewenstein (Phys. Rev. A, 58, 883 [1998]). We proceed by applying the Mathematica command FindSequenceFunction to a series of conjectured Hilbert-Schmidt generic 2 x 2 (rational-valued) separability probabilities p(a), a = 1, 2,...,32, with a = 1 indexing standard two-qubit systems, and a = 2, two-quater(nionic)bit systems. These 32 inputted values of p(a)--as well as 32 companion non-inputted valu…
This work is an enquiry into the circumstances under which entropy methods can give an answer to the questions of both quantum separability and classical correlations of a composite state. Several entropy functionals are employed to examine the entanglement and correlation properties guided by the corresponding calculations of concurrence. It is shown that the entropy difference between that of the composite and its marginal density matrices may be of arbitrary sign except under special circumstances when conditional probability can be defined appropriately. This ambiguity is a consequence of …
Milz and Strunz recently reported substantial evidence to further support the previously conjectured separability probability of $\frac{8}{33}$ for two-qubit systems ($ρ$) endowed with Hilbert-Schmidt measure. Additionally, they found that along the radius ($r$) of the Bloch ball representing either of the two single-qubit subsystems, this value appeared constant (but jumping to unity at the locus of the pure states, $r=1$). Further, they also observed (personal communication) such separability probability $r$-invariance, when using, more broadly, random induced measure ($K=3,4,5,\ldots$), wit…
An important variable in the 2017 analysis of Lovas and Andai, formally establishing the Hilbert-Schmidt separability probability conjectured by Slater of $\frac{29}{64}$ for the 9-dimensional convex set of two-rebit density matrices, was the ratio ($\varepsilon =\frac{σ_2}{σ_1}$) of the two singular values ($σ_1 \geq σ_2 \geq 0$) of $D_2^{\frac{1}{2}} D_1^{-\frac{1}{2}}$. There, $D_1$ and $D_2$ were the diagonal $2 \times 2$ blocks of a $4 \times 4$ two-rebit density matrix $ρ$. Working within the Lovas-Andai "separability function" ($\tildeχ_d(\varepsilon)$) framework, Slater was able to ver…
We address the discrimination of structured baths at different temperatures by dephasing quantum probes. We derive the exact reduced dynamics and evaluate the minimum error probability achievable by three different kinds of quantum probes, namely a qubit, a qutrit and a quantum register made of two qubits. Our results indicate that dephasing quantum probes are useful in discriminating low values of temperature, and that lower probabilities of error are achieved for intermediate values of the interaction time. A qutrit probe outperforms a qubit one in the discrimination task, whereas a register…
The problem of Hadamard quantum coin measurement in $n$ trials, with arbitrary number of repeated consecutive last states is formulated in terms of Fibonacci sequences for duplicated states, Tribonacci numbers for triplicated states and $N$-Bonacci numbers for arbitrary $N$-plicated states. The probability formulas for arbitrary position of repeated states are derived in terms of Lucas and Fibonacci numbers. For generic qubit coin, the formulas are expressed by Fibonacci and more general, $N$-Bonacci polynomials in qubit probabilities. The generating function for probabilities, the Golden Rati…
