We exactly evaluate a number of multipartite entanglement measures for a class of graph states, including d-dimensional cluster states (d = 1,2,3), the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states, and some related mixed states. The entanglement measures that we consider are continuous, `distance from separable states' measures, including the relative entropy, the so-called geometric measure, and robustness of entanglement. We also show that for our class of graph states these entanglement values give an operational interpretation as the maximal number of graph states distinguishable by local operations and classical communication (LOCC), as well as supplying a tight bound on the fixed letter classical capacity under LOCC decoding.
A new type of complementary relation is found between locally accessible information and final average entanglement for given ensemble. It is also shown that in some well known distillation protocol, this complementary relation is optimally satisfied. We discuss the interesting trade-off between locally accessible information and distillable entanglement for some states.
Entanglement is the resource to overcome the natural limitations of spatially separated parties restricted to Local Operations assisted by Classical Communications (LOCC). Recently two new classes of operational entanglement measures, the source and the accessible entanglement, for arbitrary multipartite states have been introduced. Whereas the source entanglement measures from how many states the state of interest can be obtained via LOCC, the accessible entanglement measures how many states can be reached via LOCC from the state at hand. We consider here pure bipartite as well as multipartit…
Global conservation laws imply superselection rules (SSR) which restrict the operations that are possible on any given state. Imposing the additional constraint of local operations and classical communication (LOCC) forbids the transfer of quantum systems between spatially separated sites. In the case of particle conservation this imposes a SSR for local particle number. That is, the coherences between subspaces of fixed particle number at each site are not accessible and any state is therefore equivalent to its projection onto these subspaces. The accessible entanglement under the SSR is less…
Communication rates over quantum channels can be boosted by entanglement, via superadditivity phenomena or entanglement assistance. Superadditivity refers to the capacity improvement from entangling inputs across multiple channel uses. Nevertheless, when unlimited entanglement assistance is available, the entanglement between channel uses becomes unnecessary -- the entanglement-assisted (EA) capacity of a single-sender and single-receiver channel is additive. We generalize the additivity of EA capacity to general multiple-access channels (MACs) for the total communication rate. Furthermore, fo…
We analyze quantum network primitives which are entanglement-breaking. We show superadditivity of quantum and classical capacity regions for quantum multiple-access channel and quantum butterfly network. Since the effects are especially visible at high noise they suggest that quantum information effects may be particularly helpful in the case of the networks with occasional high noise rates. To our knowledge the present effects provide the first qualitative borderline between superadditivities of bipartite and multipartite systems.
We present a multipartite entanglement measure for $N$-qudit pure states, using the norm of the correlation tensor which occurs in the Bloch representation of the state. We compute this measure for important class of $N$-qutrit pure states, namely general GHZ states. We prove that this measure possesses almost all the properties expected of a good entanglement measure, including monotonicity. Finally, we extend this measure to $N$-qudit mixed states via convex roof construction and establish its various properties, including its monotonicity.
Ordering physical states is the key to quantifying some physical property of the states uniquely. Bipartite pure entangled states are totally ordered under local operations and classical communication (LOCC) in the asymptotic limit and uniquely quantified by the well-known entropy of entanglement. However, we show that mixed entangled states are partially ordered under LOCC even in the asymptotic limit. Therefore, non-uniqueness of entanglement measure is understood on the basis of an operational notion of asymptotic convertibility.
Experimentally quantifying entanglement and coherence are extremely important for quantum resource theory. However, because the quantum state tomography requires exponentially growing measurements with the number of qubits, it is hard to quantify entanglement and coherence based on the full information of the experimentally realized multipartite states. Fortunately, other methods have been found to directly measure the fidelity of experimental states without quantum state tomography. Here we present a fidelity-based method to derive experimentally accessible lower bounds for measures of genuin…
We define metrics and measures to characterize the ratio of accessible quantum entanglement for complex network failures in the quantum Internet. A complex network failure models a situation in the quantum Internet in which a set of quantum nodes and a set of entangled connections become unavailable. A complex failure can cover a quantum memory failure, a physical link failure, an eavesdropping activity, or any other random physical failure scenario. Here, we define the terms entanglement accessibility ratio, cumulative probability of entanglement accessibility ratio, probabilistic reduction o…
We find a regularized formula for the entanglement-assisted (EA) capacity region for quantum multiple access channels (QMAC). We illustrate the capacity region calculation with the example of the collective phase-flip channel which admits a single-letter characterization. On the way, we provide a first-principles proof of the EA coding theorem based on a packing argument. We observe that the Holevo-Schumacher-Westmoreland theorem may be obtained from a modification of our EA protocol. We remark on the existence of a family hierarchy of protocols for multiparty scenarios with a single receiver,…
We present a multipartite entanglement measure for $N$-qubit pure states, using the norm of the correlation tensor which occurs in the Bloch representation of the state. We compute this measure for several important classes of $N$-qubit pure states such as GHZ states, W states and their superpositions. We compute this measure for interesting applications like one dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet. We use this measure to follow the entanglement dynamics of Grover's algorithm. We prove that this measure possesses almost all the properties expected of a good entanglement measure, including m…
An (n,m,p) Random Access Code (RAC) allows to encode n bits in an m bit message, in such a way that a receiver of the message can guess any of the original $n$ bits with probability p, greater than 1/2. In Quantum RAC's (QRACs) one transmits n qubits. The full set of primitive Entanglement Assisted Random Access Codes (EARACs) is introduced, in which parties are allowed to share a two-qubit singlet. It is shown that via a concatenation of these, one can build for any n an (n,1,p) EARAC. QRAC's for n>3 exist only if parties additionally share classical randomness (SR). We show that EARACs outpe…
We investigate the properties and relations of two classes of operational bipartite and multipartite entanglement measures, the so-called source and the accessible entanglement. The former measures how easy it is to generate a given state via local operations and classical communication (LOCC) from some other state, whereas the latter measures the potentiality of a state to be convertible to other states via LOCC. Main emphasis is put on the bipartite pure states, single copy regime. We investigate which parameter regime is physically available, i.e for which values of these measures does ther…
Collaborative communication tasks such as random access codes (RACs) employing quantum resources have manifested great potential in enhancing information processing capabilities beyond the classical limitations. The two quantum variants of RACs, namely, quantum random access code (QRAC) and the entanglement-assisted random access code (EARAC), have demonstrated equal prowess for a number of tasks. However, there do exist specific cases where one outperforms the other. In this article, we study a family of $3 \rightarrow 1$ distributed RACs \cite{network} and present its general construction of…
Quantum entanglement is a crucial element of establishing the entangled network structure of the quantum Internet. Here we define a method to achieve controlled entanglement access in the quantum Internet. The proposed model defines different levels of entanglement accessibility for the users of the quantum network. The path cost is determined by an integrated criterion on the entanglement fidelities between the quantum nodes and the probabilities of entangled connections of an entangled path. We reveal the connection between the number of available entangled paths and the accessible fidelity …
To construct a quantum network with many end users, it is critical to have a cost-efficient way to distribute entanglement over different network ends. We demonstrate an entanglement access network, where the expensive resource, the entangled photon source at the telecom wavelength and the core communication channel, is shared by many end users. Using this cost-efficient entanglement access network, we report experimental demonstration of a secure multiparty computation protocol, the privacy-preserving secure sum problem, based on the network quantum cryptography.
For indistinguishable itinerant particles subject to a superselection rule fixing their total number, a portion of the entanglement entropy under a spatial bipartition of the ground state is due to particle fluctuations between subsystems and thus is inaccessible as a resource for quantum information processing. We quantify the remaining operationally accessible entanglement in a model of interacting spinless fermions on a one dimensional lattice via exact diagonalization and the density matrix renormalization group. We find that the accessible entanglement exactly vanishes at the first order …
We introduce an arbitrary number of accessible modes when analyzing bipartite entanglement degradation due to Unruh effect between two partners Alice and Rob. Under the single mode approximation (SMA) a fermion field only had a few accessible levels due to Pauli exclusion principle, conversely to bosonic fields which had an infinite number of excitable levels. This was argued to justify entanglement survival in the fermionic case in the SMA infinite acceleration limit. Here we relax SMA. Hence, an infinite number of modes are excited as the observer Rob accelerates, even for a fermion field. W…
We propose a measure of interaction-induced ground state entanglement in many-fermion systems that is experimentally accessible. It is formulated in terms of cross-correlations of currents through resonant fermion levels weakly coupled to the probed system. The proposed entanglement measure vanishes in the absence of many-body interactions and it is related to measures of occupation number entanglement. We evaluate it for two examples of interacting electronic nanostructures.
The sequential quantum random access code (QRAC) allows two or more decoders to obtain a desired message with higher success probability than the best classical bounds by appropriately modulating the measurement sharpness. Here, we propose an entanglement-assisted sequential QRAC protocol which can enable device-independent tasks. By relaxing the equal sharpness and mutually unbiased measurement limits, we widen the sharpness modulation region from a one-dimensional interval to a two-dimensional triangle. Then, we demonstrate our scheme experimentally and get more than 27 standard deviations a…
For quantum states of two subsystems, entanglement measures are related to capacities of communication tasks -- highly entangled states give higher capacity of transmitting classical as well as quantum information. However, we show that this is no more the case in general: quantum capacities of multi-access channels, motivated by communication in quantum networks, do not have any relation with genuine multiparty entanglement measures. Along with revealing the structural richness of multi-access channel capacities, this gives us a tool to classify multiparty quantum states from the perspective …
We present a method for quantum entanglement distribution over a so-called code-division-multiple-access network, in which two pairs of users share the same quantum channel to transmit information. The main idea of this method is to use different broad-band chaotic phase shifts, generated by electro-optic modulators (EOMs) and chaotic Colpitts circuits, to encode the information-bearing quantum signals coming from different users, and then recover the masked quantum signals at the receiver side by imposing opposite chaotic phase shifts. The chaotic phase shifts given to different pairs of user…
The effect of Hawking radiation on the redistribution of the entanglement and mutual information in the Schwarzschild spacetime is investigated. Our analysis shows that the physically accessible correlations degrade while the unaccessible correlations increase as the Hawking temperature increases because the initial correlations described by inertial observers are redistributed between all the bipartite modes. It is interesting to note that, in the limit case that the temperature tends to infinity, the accessible mutual information equals to just half of its initial value, and the unaccessible…
With the complexity of information tasks, the bipartite and tripartite entanglement can no longer meet our needs, and we need more entangled particles to process relativistic quantum information. In this paper, we study the genuine N-partite entanglement and distributed relationships for Dirac fields in the background of dilaton black holes. We present the general analytical expression including all physically accessible and inaccessible entanglement in curved spacetime. We find that the accessible N-partite entanglement exhibits irreversible decoherence as the increase of black hole's dilaton…
We investigate whether entanglement can survive the thermalization of subsystems. We present two equivalent formulations of this problem: (1) Can two isolated agents, accessing only pre-shared randomness, locally thermalize arbitrary input states while maintaining some entanglement? (2) Can thermalization with local heat baths, which may be classically correlated but do not exchange information, locally thermalize arbitrary input states while maintaining some entanglement? We answer these questions in the positive at every nonzero temperature and provide bounds on the amount of preserved entan…
We solve the entanglement-assisted (EA) classical capacity region of quantum multiple-access channels with an arbitrary number of senders. As an example, we consider the bosonic thermal-loss multiple-access channel and solve the one-shot capacity region enabled by an entanglement source composed of sender-receiver pairwise two-mode squeezed vacuum states. The EA capacity region is strictly larger than the capacity region without entanglement-assistance. With two-mode squeezed vacuum states as the source and phase modulation as the encoding, we also design practical receiver protocols to realiz…
Quantum information processing protocols are efficiently implemented on spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ networks. A quantum communication protocol generally involves a certain number of parties having local access to a subset of a larger system, whose intrinsic dynamics are exploited in order to perform a specific task. In this chapter, we address such a scenario with the quantum dynamical map formalism, where the dynamics of the larger system is expressed as a quantum map acting on the parties' access to their respective subsets of spins. We reformulate widely investigated protocols, such as one-qubit qua…
We derive a simple lower bound on the geometric measure of entanglement for mixed quantum states in the case of a general multipartite system. The main ingredient of the presented derivation is the triangle inequality applied to the root infidelity distance in the space of density matrices. The obtained bound leads to entanglement criteria with a straightforward interpretation. Proposed criteria provide an experimentally accessible, powerful entanglement test.
We consider composability of quantum channels from a limited amount of entanglement via local operations and classical communication (LOCC). We show that any $k$-partially entanglement breaking channel can be composed from an entangled state with Schmidt number of $k$ via one-way LOCC. From the entanglement assisted construction we can reach an alternative definition of partially entanglement breaking channels.
We derive a monogamy inequality for any local quantum resource and entanglement. It results from the fact that there is always a convex measure for a quantum resource, as shown here, and from the relation between entanglement and local entropy. One of its consequences is an entanglement monogamy different from that usually discussed. If the local resource is nonuniformity or coherence, it is satisfied by familiar resource and entanglement measures. The ensuing upper bound for the local coherence, determined by the entanglement, is independent of the basis used to define the coherence.
We investigate localization of entanglement of multimode Gaussian states into a pair of modes by local Gaussian measurements on the remaining modes and classical communication. We find that for pure states and for mixed symmetric states maximum entanglement between two modes can be localized by local homodyne detections, i.e. projections onto infinitely squeezed states. We also show that non-Gaussian measurements allow to localize more entanglement than Gaussian ones.
There are two important paradigms for defining quantum correlations in quantum information theory, viz. the information-theoretic and the entanglement-separability ones. We find an analytical relation between two measures of quantum correlations, one in each paradigm, and show that only a certain cone-like region on the two-dimensional space spanned by these measures is accessible to pure three-qubit states. The information-theoretic multiparty quantum correlation measure is related to the monogamy considerations of a bipartite information-theoretic quantum correlation measure, while the entan…
We investigate entanglement concentration of continuous-variable Gaussian states by local single-photon subtractions combined with local Gaussian operations. We first analyze the local squeezing-enhanced entanglement concentration protocol proposed very recently by Zhang and van Loock [e-print: arXiv:1103.4500 (2011)] and discuss the mechanism by which local squeezing before photon subtraction helps to increase the entanglement of the output state of the protocol. We next show that a similar entanglement improvement can be achieved by using local coherent displacements instead of single-mode s…
The local entanglement $E_v$ of the one-dimensional Hubbard model is studied on the basis of its Bethe-ansatz solution. The relationship between the local entanglement and the on-site Coulomb interaction $U$ is obtained. Our results show that $E_v$ is an even analytic function of $U$ at half-filling and it reaches a maximum at the critical point U=0. The variation of the local entanglement with the filling factor shows that the ground state with maximal symmetry possesses maximal entanglement. The magnetic field makes the local entanglement to decrease and approach to zero at saturated magneti…
We propose a simple setup for the conversion of multipartite entangled states in a quantum network with restricted access. The scheme uses nonlocal operations to enable the preparation of states that are inequivalent under local operations and classical communication, but most importantly does not require full access to the states. It is based on a flexible linear optical conversion gate that uses photons, which are ideally suited for distributed quantum computation and quantum communication in extended networks. In order to show the basic working principles of the gate, we focus on converting…
The class of local invertible operations is defined and the invariance of entanglement under such operations is established. For the quantification of entanglement, universal entanglement measures are defined, which are invariant under local invertible transformations. They quantify entanglement in a very general sense. It is shown that the Schmidt number is a universal entanglement measure, which is most important for the general amount of entanglement. For special applications, pseudo-measures are defined to quantify the useful entanglement for a certain quantum task. The entanglement quanti…
We study the degree to which quantum entanglement survives when a three-qubit entangled state is copied by using local and non-local processes, respectively, and investigate iterating quantum copying for the three-qubit system. There may exist inter-three-qubit entanglement and inter-two-qubit entanglement for the three-qubit system. We show that both local and non-local copying processes degrade quantum entanglement in the three-particle system due to a residual correlation between the copied output and the copying machine. We also show that the inter-two-qubit entanglement is preserved bette…
Genuine multipartite entanglement of a quantum system can be partially destroyed by local decoherence. Is it possible to retrieve the entanglement to some extent by a single local operation? The answer to this question depends very much on the type of initial genuine entanglement. For initially pure W and cluster states and if the decoherence is given by generalized amplitude damping, the answer is shown to be positive. In this case, the entanglement retrieving is achieved just by redistributing the remained entanglement of the system.
A scheme for controlling the entanglement of a two-qubit system by a local magnetic pulse is proposed. We show that the entanglement of the two-qubit system can be increased by sacrificing the coherence in ancillary degree of freedom, which is induced by a local manipulation.
This paper try to probe the relation of distinguishing locally and distillation of entanglement. The distinguishing information (DI) and the maximal distinguishing information (MDI) of a set of pure states are defined. The interpretation of distillation of entanglement in term of information is given. The relation between the maximal distinguishing information and distillable entanglement is gained. As a application of this relation the distillable entanglement of Bell-diagonal states is present.
We study the entanglement capability of the evolution of a pair of qubits evolving under unitary dynamics, when the local dynamical parameters cannot be modified during the time-evolution. Unlike the fast local control regime, we find that local and non-local contributions to the dynamics are strictly interconnected. Moreover, it is possible to strongly increase the entanglement capability by suitably initializing the characteristic energies of the two parties.
Entanglement polytopes result in finitely many types of entanglement that can be detected by only measuring single-particle spectra. With high probability, however, the local spectra lie in more than one polytope, hence providing no information about the entanglement type. To overcome this problem, we propose to additionally use local filters. We experimentally demonstrate the detection of entanglement polytopes in a four-qubit system. Using local filters we can distinguish the entanglement type of states with the same single particle spectra, but which belong to different polytopes.
The long-range entanglement dynamics of an one-dimensional spin-1/2 anisotropic XXZ model are studied using the method of the adaptive time-dependent density-matrix renormalization-group. The long-range entanglement can be generated when a local quench on one of boundary bonds is performed in the system. The anisotropic interaction has a strong influence both on the maximal value of long-range entanglement and the time of reaching the maximum long-range entanglement. The local coupling has a notable impact on the long-range entanglement, but it can be neglected in the time of reaching the maxi…
We derive a monogamy inequality for entanglement and local contextuality, for any finite bipartite system. It essentially results from the relations between the purity of a local state and the entanglement of the global state, and between the purity of a state and its ability to violate a given noncontextuality inequality. We build an explicit entanglement monotone that satisfies the found monogamy inequality. An important consequence of this inequality, is that there are global states too entangled to violate the local noncontextuality inequality.
We analyze the entanglement evolution of two cavity photons being affected by the dissipation of two individual reservoirs. Under an arbitrary local unitary operation on the initial state, it is shown that there is only one parameter which changes the entanglement dynamics. For the bipartite subsystems, we show that the entanglement of the cavity photons is correlated with that of the reservoirs, although the local operation can delay the time at which the photon entanglement disappears and advance the time at which the reservoir entanglement appears. Furthermore, via a new defined four-qubit …
When a quantum system is macroscopic and becomes entangled with a microscopic one, this entanglement is not immediately total, but gradual and local. A study of this locality is the starting point of the present work and shows unexpected and detailed properties in the generation and propagation of entanglement between a measuring apparatus and a microscopic measured system. Of special importance is the propagation of entanglement in nonlinear waves with a finite velocity. When applied to the entanglement between a macroscopic system and its environment, this study yields also new results about…
We present a theoretical study of entanglement in ensembles consisting of an arbitrary number of particles. Multipartite entanglement criteria in terms of observables are formulated for a fixed number of particles as well as for systems with a fluctuating particle number. To access the quality of the verified entanglement, the operational measure of the entanglement visibility is introduced. As an example, we perform an analytical characterization of quantum systems composed of interacting harmonic oscillators and witness the entanglement via energy measurements. Our analysis shows that the de…
A definition of entanglement in terms of local measurements is discussed. Viz, the maximum entanglement corresponds to the states that cause the highest level of quantum fluctuations in all local measurements determined by the dynamic symmetry group of the system. A number of examples illustrating this definition is considered.
In a ferromagnetic spin chain, the control of the local effective magnetic field allows to manipulate the static and dynamical properties of entanglement. In particular, the propagation of quantum correlations can be driven to a great extent so as to achieve an entanglement transfer on demand toward a selected site.
Random local measurements have recently been proposed to construct entanglement witnesses and thereby detect the presence of bipartite entanglement. We experimentally demonstrate the efficacy of one such scheme on a two-qubit NMR quantum information processor. We show that a set of three random local measurements suffices to detect the entanglement of a general two-qubit state. We experimentally generate states with different amounts of entanglement, and show that the scheme is able to clearly witness entanglement. We perform complete quantum state tomography for each state and compute state f…
Entanglement detection and estimation are fundamental in quantum information science. Compared with discrete-variable states, for which lots of efficient entanglement detection criteria and lower bounds of entanglement measures have been proposed, the continuous-variable entanglement is much less understood. Here we shall present a family of entanglement witnesses based on continuous-variable local orthogonal observables (CVLOOs) to detect and estimate entanglement of Gaussian and non-Gaussian states, especially for bound entangled states. By choosing an optimal set of CVLOOs our entanglement …
Complete complementarity relations, as e.g. $P(ρ_{A})^{2} + C(ρ_{A})^{2} + E(|Ψ\rangle_{AB})^{2}=1$, constrain the local predictability, $P$, and local coherence, $C$, and the entanglement, $E$, of bipartite pure states. For pairs of qubits prepared initially in a particular class of partially entangled pure states with null local coherence, these relations were used in Ref. [Phys. Lett. A, 451, 128414 (2022)] to provide an operational connection between local predictability of the pre-measurement states with the probability of the maximally entangled components of the states after the Bell-ba…
