We study the ordering of two-qubit states with respect to the degree of bipartite entanglement using the Wootters concurrence -- a measure of the entanglement of formation, and the negativity -- a measure of the entanglement cost under the positive-partial-transpose-preserving operations. For two-qubit pure states, the negativity is the same as the concurrence. However, we demonstrate analytically on simple examples of various mixtures of Bell and separable states that the entanglement measures can impose different orderings on the states. We show which states, in general, give the maximally different predictions, (i) when one of the states has the concurrence greater but the negativity smaller than those for the other state, and (ii) when the states are entangled to the same degree according to one of the measures, but differently according to the other.
Two measures of entanglement, negativity and concurrence are studied for two arbitrary qudits. We obtain negativity as an expectation value of an operator. The differences of the squares of negativity and concurrence are invariants of multilevel entanglement. Explicit results for qutrits and quadrits are obtained.
We consider two measures of entanglement of mixed bipartite states of dimension 2X2: concurrence and negativity. We first prove the conjecture of Eisert and Plenio that concurrence can never be smaller than negativity. We then characterise all states for which concurrence equals negativity and also those states for which the difference between concurrence and negativity is maximal (keeping either the concurrence fixed, or the participation ratio R=1/trace(rho^2)).
Two measures of entanglement, negativity and concurrence are studied for two qutrits. An operator origin of negativity is presented and an analytic formula connecting the two measures is derived.
The $k$-ME concurrence as a measure of multipartite entanglement (ME) unambiguously detects all $k$-nonseparable states in arbitrary dimensions, and satisfies many important properties of an entanglement measure. Negativity is a simple computable bipartite entanglement measure. Invariant and tangle are useful tools to study the properties of the quantum states. In this paper we mainly investigate the internal relations among the $k$-ME concurrence, negativity, polynomial invariants, and tangle. Strong links between $k$-ME concurrence and negativity as well as between $k$-ME concurrence and pol…
For bipartite quantum states we obtain lower bounds on two important entanglement measures, concurrence and negativity, studying the inequalities for the expectation value of a projector on some subspace of the Hilbert space. Several applications, including analysis of stability of entanglement under various perturbations of a state, are discussed.
Monogamy relations characterize the distributions of entanglement in multipartite systems. We investigate the monogamy relations satisfied by the concurrence of assistance and the negativity of assistance for multiqubit generalized $W$-class states. Analytical monogamy inequalities are presented for both concurrence of assistance and negativity of assistance, which are shown to be tighter than the existing ones. Detailed examples have been presented.
In this report we consider the three dimensional subset of the space of states of two qubits that may be written in the so called standard form. For those states we show that different measures of entanglement, specifically concurrence, negativity and the Hilbert-Schmidt distance are proportional to the euclidean distance between the point representing the state in the three dimensional parameter space and the set of separable states.
In this paper we investigate two different entanglement measures in the case of mixed states of two qubits. We prove that the negativity of a state can never exceed its concurrence and is always larger then $\sqrt{(1-C)^2+C^2}-(1-C)$ where $C$ is the concurrence of the state. Furthermore we derive an explicit expression for the states for which the upper or lower bound is satisfied. Finally we show that similar results hold if the relative entropy of entanglement and the entanglement of formation are compared.
Detection of entanglement in bipartite states is a fundamental task in quantum information. The first method to verify entanglement in mixed states was the partial-transpose criterion. Subsequently, numerous quantifiers for bipartite entanglement were introduced, among them concurrence and negativity. Surprisingly, these quantities are often treated as distinct or independent of each other. The aim of this contribution is to highlight the close relations between these concepts, to show the connections between seemingly independent results, and to present various estimates for the mixed-state c…
The problem of ordering of two-qubit states imposed by relative entropy of entanglement (E) in comparison to concurrence (C) and negativity (N) is studied. Analytical examples of states consistently and inconsistently ordered by the entanglement measures are given. In particular, the states for which any of the three measures imposes order opposite to that given by the other two measures are described. Moreover, examples are given of pairs of the states, for which (i) N'=N'' and C'=C'' but E' is different from E'', (ii) N'=N'' and E'=E'' but C' differs from C'', (iii) E'=E'', N'<N'' and C'>C''…
We propose replacing concurrence by convex-roof extended negativity (CREN) for studying monogamy of entanglement (MoE). We show that all proven MoE relations using concurrence can be rephrased in terms of CREN. Furthermore we show that higher-dimensional (qudit) extensions of MoE in terms of CREN are not disproven by any of the counterexamples used to disprove qudit extensions of MoE in terms of concurrence. We further test the CREN version of MoE for qudits by considering fully or partially coherent mixtures of a qudit W-class state with the vacuum and show that the CREN version of MoE for qu…
The entanglement quantified by negativity of pure bipartite superposed states is studied. We show that if the entanglement is quantified by the concurrence two pure states of high fidelity to one another still have nearly the same entanglement. Furthermore this conclusion can be guaranteed by our obtained inequality, and the concurrence is shown to be a continuous function even in infinite dimensions. The bounds on the negativity of superposed states in terms of those of the states being superposed are obtained. These bounds can find useful applications in estimating the amount of the entangle…

We study the dynamical process of disentanglement of two qubits and two qutrits coupled to an Ising spin chain in a transverse field, which exhibits a quantum phase transition. We use the concurrence and negativity to quantify entanglement of two qubits and two qutrits, respectively. Explicit connections between the concurrence (negativity) and the decoherence factors are given for two initial states, the pure maximally entangled state and the mixed Werner state. We find that the concurrence and negativity decay exponentially with fourth power of time in the vicinity of critical point of the e…
Numerous work had been done to quantify the entanglement of a two-qubit quantum state, but it can be seen that previous works were based on joint measurements on two copies or more than two copies of a quantum state under consideration. In this work, we show that a single copy and two measurements are enough to estimate the entanglement quantifier like entanglement negativity and concurrence. To achieve our aim, we establish a relationship between the entanglement negativity and the minimum eigenvalue of structural physical approximation of partial transpose of an arbitrary two-qubit state. Th…
Entanglement swapping is gaining widespread attention due to its application in entanglement distribution among different parts of quantum appliances. We investigate the entanglement swapping for pure and noisy systems, and argue different entanglement quantifiers for quantum states. We explore the relationship between the entanglement of initial states and the average entanglement of final states in terms of concurrence and negativity. We find that if initial quantum states are maximally entangled and we make measurements in the Bell basis, then average concurrence and average negativity of f…
For a two-qubit system under local depolarizing channels, the most robust and most fragile states are derived for a given concurrence or negativity. For the one-sided channel, the pure states are proved to be the most robust ones, with the aid of the evolution equation for entanglement given by Konrad et al. [Nat. Phys. 4, 99 (2008)]. Based on a generalization of the evolution equation for entanglement, we classify the ansatz states in our investigation by the amount of robustness, and consequently derive the most fragile states. For the two-sided channel, the pure states are the most robust f…
We present an extension of the Wootters concurrence for the case of two qutrits in mixed states. The reduction of our extension to the case of two levels shows complete agreement with Wootters concurrence for two qubits. As an explicit example, we compute the concurrence for a family of symmetric states and we obtain the bounds on the limit for separability. Our results are compared with those of the negativity.
In this paper, we study the $α$th power monogamy properties related to the entanglement measure in bipartite states. The monogamy relations related to the $α$th power of negativity and the Convex- Roof Extended Negativity are obtained for N-qubit states. We also give a tighter bound of hierarchical monogamy inequality for the entanglement of formation. We find that the GHZ state and W state can be used to distinguish the $α$th power the concurrence for $0<α<2$. Furthermore, we compare concurrence with negativity in terms of monogamy property and investigate the difference between them.
It is well known that for two qubits the upper bounds of the relative entropy of entanglement (REE) for a given concurrence as well as the negativity for a given concurrence are reached by pure states. We show that, by contrast, there are two-qubit mixed states for which the REE for some range of a fixed negativity is higher than that for pure states. Moreover, we demonstrate that a mixture of a pure entangled state and pure separable state orthogonal to it is likely to give the maximal REE. By noting that the negativity is a measure of entanglement cost under operations preserving positivity …
I explore entanglement dynamics in a three qubit system comparing the ability of entanglement witnesses to detect tri-partite entanglement to the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death (ESD). Using a system subject to dephasing I invoke entanglement witnesses to detect tri-partite GHZ and W-type entanglement and compare the evolution of their detection capabilites with the evolution of the negativity, bi-partite concurrence, and tri-partite negativity. Interestingly, I find a state in which there is no concurrence or tri-partite negativity but there is entanglement. Finally, I utilize a three…
The problem on detecting the entanglement of a bipartite state is significant in quantum information theory. In this article, we apply the Ky Fan norm to the revised realignment matrix of a bipartite state. Specifially, we consider a family of separable criteria for bipartite states, and present when the density matrix corresponds to a state is real, the criteria is equivalent to the enhanced realignment criterion. Moreover, we present analytical lower bounds of concurrence and the convex-roof extended negativity for arbitrary dimensional systems.
I explore the entanglement dynamics of a three qubit system in an initial X-state undergoing decoherence including the possible exhibition of entanglement sudden death (ESD). To quantify entanglement I utilize negativity measures and make use of appropriate entanglement witnesses. The negativity results are then extended to X-states with an arbitraty number of qubits. I also demonstrate non-standard behavior of the tri-partite negativity entanglement metric, its sudden appearance after some amount of decoherence followed quickly by its disappearance. Finally, I solve for a lower bound on the t…
We demonstrate that for every two-qubit state there is a X-counterpart, i.e., a corresponding two-qubit X-state of same spectrum and entanglement, as measured by concurrence, negativity or relative entropy of entanglement. By parametrizing the set of two-qubit X-states and a family of unitary transformations that preserve the sparse structure of a two-qubit X-state density matrix, we obtain the parametric form of a unitary transformation that converts arbitrary two-qubit states into their X-counterparts. Moreover, we provide a semi-analytic prescription on how to set the parameters of this uni…
Entanglement has been studied extensively for unveiling the mysteries of non-classical correlations between quantum systems. In the bipartite case, there are well known measures for quantifying entanglement such as concurrence, relative entropy of entanglement (REE) and negativity, which cannot be increased via local operations. It was found that for sets of non-maximally entangled states of two qubits, comparing these entanglement measures may lead to different entanglement orderings of the states. On the other hand, although it is not an entanglement measure and not monotonic under local ope…
Entanglement measures constructed from two positive, but not completely positive maps on density operators are used as constraints in placing bounds on the entanglement of formation, the tangle, and the concurrence of 4 x N mixed states. The maps are the partial transpose map and the $Φ$-map introduced by Breuer [H.-P. Breuer, Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 080501 (2006)]. The norm-based entanglement measures constructed from these two maps, called negativity and $Φ$-negativity, respectively, lead to two sets of bounds on the entanglement of formation, the tangle, and the concurrence. We compare these b…
We define the separability and entanglement notion for particle with spin $s=1$. We consider two cases. In the first the particle is composed of two fermions with $s_1=1/2$ and $s_2=1/2$. In the second case the state is the qutrit state which is not composed system. The notion of negativity and concurrence is defined for the qutrit state. The concurrence and negativity of entangled and separable qutrit states determined by the parameters of the density matrix are explicitly calculated. The maximum entanglement of the qutrit state is observed for maximum values of non diagonal matrix elements o…
We study the entanglement feature of the ground state of a system composed of spin 1 and 1/2 parts. The concurrence vector is shown to be consistent with the measurement of von Neumann entropy for such system. In the light of the ground state degeneracy, we suggest a average concurrence to measure the entanglement of Hilbert subspace. The entanglement property of both a general superposition as well as the mixture of the degenerate ground states are discussed by means of average concurrence and the negativity respectively.
Although many different entanglement measures have been proposed so far, much less is known in the multipartite case, which leads to the previous monogamy relations in literatures are not complete. We establish here a strict framework for defining multipartite entanglement measure (MEM): apart from the postulates of bipartite measure, a genuine MEM should additionally satisfy the unification condition and the hierarchy condition. We then come up with a complete monogamy formula for the unified MEM and a tightly complete monogamy relation for the genuine MEM. Consequently, we propose MEMs which…
Exploring an analytical expression for the convex roof of the pure state squared concurrence for rank 2 mixed states the entanglement of a system of three particles under decoherence is studied, using the monogamy inequality for mixed states and the residual entanglement obtained from it. The monogamy inequality is investigated both for the concurrence and the negativity in the case of local independent phase damping channel acting on generalized GHZ states of three particles and the local independent amplitude damping channel acting on generalized W state of three particles. It is shown that …
We investigate monogamy relations related to quantum entanglement for $n-$qubit quantum systems. General monogamy inequalities are presented to the $β$th $(β\in(0,2))$ power of concurrence, negativity and the convex-roof extended negativity, as well as the $β$th $(β\in(0,\sqrt{2}))$ power of entanglement of formation. These monogamy relations are complementary to the existing ones with different regions of parameter $β$. In additions, new monogamy relations are also derived which include the existing ones as special cases.
We study the distribution of quantum correlations characterized by monogamy relations in multipartite systems. By using the Hamming weight of the binary vectors associated with the subsystems, we establish a class of monogamy inequalities for multiqubit entanglement based on the $α$th ($α\geq 2$) power of concurrence, and a class of polygamy inequalities for multiqubit entanglement in terms of the $β$th ($0\leq β\leq2$) power of concurrence and concurrence of assistance. Moveover, we give the monogamy and polygamy inequalities for general quantum correlations. Application of these results to q…
We discuss the creation of entanglement between two two-level atoms in the dissipative process of spontaneous emission. It is shown that spontaneous emission can lead to a transient entanglement between the atoms even if the atoms were prepared initially in an unentangled state. The amount of entanglement created in the system is quantified by using two different measures: concurrence and negativity. We find analytical formulas for the evolution of concurrence and negativity in the system. We also find the analytical relation between the two measures of entanglement. The system consists of two…
We present observable lower bounds for several bipartite entanglement measures including entanglement of formation, geometric measure of entanglement, concurrence, convex-roof extended negativity, and G-concurrence. The lower bounds facilitate estimates of these entanglement measures for arbitrary finite-dimensional bipartite states. Moreover, these lower bounds can be calculated analytically from the expectation value of a single observable. Based on our results, we use several real experimental measurement data to get lower bounds of entanglement measures for these experimentally realized st…
We derive a family of entanglement monotones, one member of which turns out to be the negativity. Two others are shown to be lower bounds on the I-concurrence, and on the I-tangle, respectively [P. Rungta and C. M. Caves, to appear in Phys. Rev. A]. We compare these bounds with the I-concurrence and I-tangle on the isotropic states, and on rank-two density operators resulting from a Tavis-Cummings interaction. Our results provide a global structure relating several different entanglement measures. Additionally, they possess analytic forms which are easily evaluated in the most general cases.
The notion of entanglement fidelity is to measure entanglement preservation through quantum channels. Nevertheless, the amount of entanglement present in a state of a quantum system at any time is measured by quantities known as measures of entanglement. Since there are different types of measures of entanglement, one may expect an entanglement fidelity to associate with its own measure of entanglement counterpart. Here, we aim to investigate association between the so called entanglement fidelity and some measures of entanglement, namely, entanglement of formation, concurrence and negativity.…
We investigate the generalized monogamy and polygamy relations $N$-qubit systems. We give a general upper bound of the $α$th ($0\leqα\leq2$) power of concurrence for $N$-qubit states. The monogamy relations satisfied by the $α$th ($0\leqα\leq2$) power of concurrence are presented for $N$-qubit pure states under the partition $AB$ and $C_1 . . . C_{N-2}$, as well as under the partition $ABC_1$ and $C_2\cdots C_{N-2}$. These inequalities give rise to the restrictions on entanglement distribution and the trade off of entanglement among the subsystems. Similar results are also derived for negativi…
In this work we propose the geometric mean of bipartite concurrences as a genuine multipartite entanglement measure. This measure achieves the maximum value for absolutely maximally entangled states and has desirable properties for quantifying potential quantum resources. The simplicity and symmetry in the definition facilitates its computation for various multipartite entangled states including the GHZ states and the $W$ states. With explicit examples we show that our measure results in distinct entanglement orderings from other measures, and can detect differences in certain types of genuine…
Bell-inequality violation and entanglement, measured by Wootters' concurrence and negativity, of two qubits initially in Werner or Werner-like states coupled to thermal reservoirs are analyzed within the master equation approach. It is shown how this simple decoherence process leads to generation of states manifesting the relativity of two-qubit entanglement measures.
We use concurrence as an entanglement measure and experimentally demonstrate the entanglement classification of arbitrary three-qubit pure states on a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) quantum information processor. Computing the concurrence experimentally under three different bipartitions, for an arbitrary three-qubit pure state, reveals the entanglement class of the state. The experiment involves measuring the expectation values of Pauli operators. This was achieved by mapping the desired expectation values onto the local $z$ magnetization of a single qubit. We tested the entanglement classi…
We describe a direct method to determine the negativity of an arbitrary two-qubit state in experiments. The method is derived by analyzing the relation between the purity, negativity, and a universal entanglement witness for two-qubit entanglement. We show how the negativity of a two-qubit state can be calculated from just three experimentally accessible moments of the partially transposed density matrix of a two-photon state. Moreover, we show that the negativity can be given as a function of only six invariants, which are linear combinations of nine invariants from the complete set of 21 fun…
An experimentally realizable model based on the interaction between an excited two-level atom and a radiation field inside two quantum electrodynamics cavities is proposed. It consists of sending an excited two-level atom through two serial cavities which contain the radiation field. Hence, the Lindblad master equation described the reduced density matrix of the joint-joint field system inside the cavities is exactly solved in Markovian and non-Markovian regimes. However, the rate of entanglement inherent in the total field-field system are evaluated using various witnesses of entanglement suc…
It is well known that the violation of Bell's inequality in the form given by Clauser, Horne, Shimony, and Holt (CHSH) in two-qubit systems requires entanglement, but not vice versa, i.e., there are entangled states which do not violate the CHSH inequality. Here we compare some standard entanglement measures with violations of the CHSH inequality (as given by the Horodecki measure) for two-qubit states generated by Monte Carlo simulations. We describe states that have extremal entanglement according to the negativity, concurrence, and relative entropy of entanglement for a given value of the C…
Recently, it was argued that the binegativity might be a good quantifier of entanglement for two-qubit states. Like the concurrence and the negativity, the binegativity is also analytically computable quantifier for all two qubits. Based on numerical evidence, it was conjectured that it is a PPT (positive partial transposition) monotone and thus fulfills the criterion to be a good measure of entanglement. In this work, we investigate its behavior under noisy channels which indicate that the binegativity is decreasing monotonically with respect to increasing noise. We also find that the binegat…
We consider the problem of establishing entangled states of optimal singlet fraction and negativity between two remote parties for every use of a noisy quantum channel and trace-preserving LOCC under the assumption that the parties do not share prior correlations. We show that for a family of quantum channels in every finite dimension $d\geq3$, one-shot optimal singlet fraction and entanglement negativity are attained only with appropriate nonmaximally entangled states. We further show that the generalization of the formula that exactly computes one-shot optimal singlet fraction for qubit chan…
We consider a single copy of a mixed state of two qubits and show how its fidelity or maximal singlet fraction is related to the entanglement measures concurrence and negativity. We characterize the extreme points of the convex set of states with constant fidelity, and use this to prove tight lower and upper bounds on the fidelity for a given amount of entanglement.
A bosonic state is commonly considered nonclassical (or quantum) if its Glauber-Sudarshan $P$ function is not a classical probability density, which implies that only coherent states and their statistical mixtures are classical. We quantify the nonclassicality of a single qubit, defined by the vacuum and single-photon states, by applying the following four well-known measures of nonclassicality: (1) the nonclassical depth, $τ$, related to the minimal amount of Gaussian noise which changes a nonpositive $P$ function into a positive one; (2) the nonclassical distance $D$, defined as the Bures di…
We propose that the entanglement of mixed states is characterised properly in terms of a probability density function $\mathcal{P}_ρ(\mathcal{E})$. There is a need for such a measure since the prevalent measures (such as \textit{concurrence} and \textit{negativity}) for two qubit systems are rough benchmarks, and not monotones of each other. Focussing on the two qubit states, we provide an explicit construction of $\mathcal{P}_ρ(\mathcal{E})$ and show that it is characterised by a set of parameters, of which concurrence is but one particular combination. $\mathcal{P}_ρ(\mathcal{E})$ is manifes…
We investigate the monogamy relations related to the concurrence, the entanglement of formation, convex-roof extended negativity, Tsallis-q entanglement and R'enyi-α entanglement, the polygamy relations related to the entanglement of formation, Tsallis-q entanglement and R'enyi-α entanglement. Monogamy and polygamy inequalities are obtained for arbitrary multipartite qubit systems, which are proved to be tighter than the existing ones. Detailed examples are presented.
