We apply power series expansion to symmetric multi-well oscillators bounded by two infinite walls. The spectrum and expectation values obtained are compared with available exact and approximate values for the unbounded ones. It is shown that the method is capable of producing to a high accuracy the eigenvalues, eigenfunctions, and the expectation values $<x^{2k}>$ of the corresponding unbounded ones as the separation between the two infinite walls becomes large.
Classical and nonclassical states of quantum complex oscillators with real spectrum are presented. Such states are bi-orthonormal superpositions of $n+1$ energy eigenvectors of the system with binomial-like coefficients. For large values of $n$ these optimized binomial states behave as photon added coherent states when the imaginary part of the potential is cancelled.
We determine the energy spectrum and the corresponding eigenfunctions of a 2D Dirac oscillator in the presence of Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect . It is shown that the energy spectrum depends on the spin of particle and the AB magnetic flux parameter. Finally, when the irregular solution occurs it is shown that the energy takes particular values. The nonrelativistic limit is also considered.
Characterization and suppression of noise are essential for the control of harmonic oscillators in the quantum regime. We measure the noise spectrum of a quantum harmonic oscillator from low frequency to near the oscillator resonance by sensing its response to amplitude modulated periodic drives with a qubit. Using the motion of a trapped ion, we experimentally demonstrate two different implementations with combined sensitivity to noise from 500 Hz to 600 kHz. We apply our method to measure the intrinsic noise spectrum of an ion trap potential in a previously unaccessed frequency range.
We investigate the energy spectrum and the corresponding eigenfunctions of a 2D Dirac oscillator confined by an antidot potential in the presence of a magnetic field and Aharonov-Bohm flux field. Analytical solutions are obtained and compared with the results of the Schrödinger equation found in the literature. Further, the dependence of the spectrum on the magnetic quantum number and on the repulsive potential is discussed.
We consider the Hamiltonian for a charged particle in a harmonic potential in the presence of a magnetic field. The most symmetric case depends on one parameter, the variation of which leads from a spectrum bounded from below to an unbounded spectrum. At the transition point the spectrum is bounded from below but each eigenvalue has infinite multiplicity. The algebraic method proves to be a remarkable tool for the analysis of this quadratic Hamiltonian.
$1+1$-dimensional Dirac oscillator with minimal uncertainty in position and maximal in momentum is investigated. To obtain energy spectrum SUSY QM technique is applied. It is shown that the Dirac oscillator has two branches of spectrum, the first one gives the standard spectrum of the Dirac oscillator when the parameter of deformation goes to zero and the second branch does not have nondeformed limit. Maximal momentum brings an upper bound for the energy and it gives rise to the conclusion that the energy spectrum contains a finite number of eigenvalues. We also calculate partition function fo…
We notice that PT symmetric non-Hermitian one dimensional simple Harmonic Oscillator under simultaneous transformation of co-ordinate and momentum with proper choice of positive oscillating frequency can reflect negative spectrum with well behaved wave function in real space. We also present a suitable comuter programme to realise the negative spectrum directly. PACS(2008) : 03.65.Db
In the present article, we describe a method of introducing the harmonic potential into the Klein-Gordon equation, leading to genuine bound states. The eigenfunctions and eigenenergies are worked out explicitly.
We consider rotationally invariant noncommutative algebra with tensors of noncommutativity constructed with the help of additional coordinates and momenta. The algebra is equivalent to well known noncommutative algebra of canonical type. In the noncommutative phase space with rotational symmetry influence of noncommutativity on the spectrum of free particle and spectrum of harmonic oscillator is studied up to the second order in the parameters of noncommutativity. We find that because of momentum noncommutativity the spectrum of free particle is discrete and corresponds to the spectrum of harm…
The classical dynamical system possessing a quantum spectrum of energy and "quantum" behavior is suggested and investigated. The proposed model can be considered as a dynamical variant of the old quantum theory for harmonic oscillator in which the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule is absent and "quantum-mechanical" properties are the result of system behavior itself. For this dynamical system the classical model of Franck-Hertz experiment which allows explaining the experimentally observed regularities is suggested and investigated. The examples of calculations of Franck-Hertz experiment of wi…
We show that the standard techniques that are utilized to study the classical like properties of the pure states for Hermitian systems can be adjusted to investigate the classicality of pure states for non-Hermitian systems. The method is applied to the states of complex-valued potentials that are generated by Darboux transformations and can model both non-PT-symmetric and PT-symmetric oscillators exhibiting real spectra.
A set of Hamiltonians that are not self-adjoint but have the spectrum of the harmonic oscillator is studied. The eigenvectors of these operators and those of their Hermitian conjugates form a bi-orthogonal system that provides a mathematical procedure to satisfy the superposition principle. In this form the non-Hermitian oscillators can be studied in much the same way as in the Hermitian approaches. Two different nonlinear algebras generated by properly constructed ladder operators are found and the corresponding generalized coherent states are obtained. The non-Hermitian oscillators can be st…
We revisit the problem posed by an anharmonic oscillator with a potential given by a polynomial function of the coordinate of degree six that depends on a parameter $λ$. The ground state can be obtained exactly and its energy $E_{0}=1$ is independent of $λ$. This solution is valid only for $λ>0$ because the eigenfunction is not square integrable otherwise. Here we show that the perturbation series for the expectation values are Padé and Borel-Padé summable for $λ>0$. When $% λ<0$ the spectrum exhibits an infinite number of avoided crossings at each of which the eigenfunctions undergo dramatic …
The Tietz-Hua (TH) potential is one of the very best analytical model potentials for the vibrational energy of diatomic molecules. By using the Nikiforov-Uvarov (NU) method, we have obtained the exact analytical s-wave solutions of the radial Schrödinger equation (SE) for the TH potential. The energy eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions are calculated in closed forms. Some numerical results for diatomic molecules are also presented.
Rotationally invariant space with noncommutativity of coordinates and noncommutativity of momenta of canonical type is considered. A system of $N$ interacting harmonic oscillators in uniform filed and a system of $N$ particles with harmonic oscillator interaction are studied. We analyze effect of noncommutativity on the energy levels of these systems. It is found that influence of coordinates noncommutativity on the energy levels of the systems increases with increasing of the number of particles. The spectrum of $N$ free particles in uniform field in rotationally-invariant noncommutative phas…
The spectrum of the spin particle in oscillatory potential subjected to external parabolic magnetic field ${\bf B}=(B_0+Gx+\tilde G x^2){\bf \hat z}$ is obtained. The structure of energy levels of the considered system allows to identify the frequency of the oscillator via the spectrum of spin sublevels coming only from {\it one} oscillatory level. The effect is due to the gradient terms in the form of the field.
We report that upon excitation by a single pulse, the classical harmonic oscillator immersed in classical electromagnetic zero-point radiation, as described by random electrodynamics, exhibits a quantized excitation spectrum in agreement to that of the quantum harmonic oscillator. This numerical result is interesting in view of the generally accepted idea that classical theories do not support quantized energy spectra.
The comparison of the Hamiltonians of the noncommutative isotropic harmonic oscillator and Landau problem are analysed to study the specific conditions under which these two models are indistinguishable. The energy eigenvalues and eigenstates of Landau problem in symmetric and two Landau gauges are evaluated analytically. The Hamiltonian of a noncommutative isotropic harmonic oscillator is found by using Bopp's shift in commutative coordinate space. The result shows that the two systems are isomorphic up to the similar values of $n_{r}$ and $m_{l}$ and $qB = eB > 0$ for both gauge choices. How…
The solution of the Feinberg-Horodecki (FH) equation for a time-dependent mass (TDM) harmonic oscillator quantum system is studied. A certain interaction is applied to a mass to provide a particular spectrum of stationary energies. The related spectrum of the harmonic oscillator potential acting on the TDM oscillators is found. We apply the time version of the asymptotic iteration method (AIM) to calculate analytical expressions of the TDM stationary state energies and their wave functions. It is shown that the obtained solutions reduce to those of simple harmonic oscillator as the time-depend…
Quantum harmonic oscillators are central to many modern quantum technologies. We introduce a method to determine the frequency noise spectrum of oscillator modes through coupling them to a qubit with continuously driven qubit-state-dependent displacements. We reconstruct the noise spectrum using a series of different drive phase and amplitude modulation patterns in conjunction with a data-fusion routine based on convex optimization. We apply the technique to the identification of intrinsic noise in the motional frequency of a single trapped ion with sensitivity to fluctuations at the sub-Hz le…
We show that the position operator for a class of $f$-deformed oscillators has a fractal spectrum, homeomorphic to the Cantor set, via a unitary transformation to Harper's model. The class corresponds to a choice of ergodic operators for the deformation function. Hofstadter's butterfly is plotted by direct diagonalization of a position operator with an originally vanishing diagonal. This is equivalent to a one-dimensional hamiltonian without potential.
It is shown that the Hurwitz transformation connects the eight-dimensional repulsive oscillator problem with the five-dimensional Coulomb problem for continuous spectrum. The hyperspherical and parabolic bases for this system are calculated. The quantum mechanical scattering problem of charged particles in the 5-dimensional Coulomb field is solved.
We use a power-series expansion to calculate the eigenvalues of anharmonic oscillators bounded by two infinite walls. We show that for large finite values of the separation of the walls, the calculated eigenvalues are of the same high accuracy as the values recently obtained for the unbounded case by the inner-product quantization method. We also apply our method to the Morse potential. The eigenvalues obtained in this case are in excellent agreement with the exact values for the unbounded Morse potential.
The eigenvalue problem of the spherically symmetric oscillator Hamiltonian is revisited in the context of canonical raising and lowering operators. The Hamiltonian is then factorized in terms of two not mutually adjoint factorizing operators which, in turn, give rise to a non-Hermitian radial Hamiltonian. The set of eigenvalues of this new Hamiltonian is exactly the same as the energy spectrum of the radial oscillator and the new square-integrable eigenfunctions are complex Darboux-deformations of the associated Laguerre polynomials.
Below we study theoretically and numerically the asymptotics of the algebraic part of the spectrum for the quasi-exactly solvable sextic potential, its level crossing points, and its monodromy in the complex plane of its parameter. We also discuss connection between the quasi-exactly solvable sextic and the classical quartic potential.
Motivated by recent "circuit QED" experiments we investigate the noise properties of coherently driven nonlinear resonators. By using Josephson junctions in superconducting circuits, strong nonlinearities can be engineered, which lead to the appearance of pronounced effects already for a low number of photons in the resonator. Based on a master equation approach we determine the emission spectrum and observe for typical circuit QED parameters, in addition to the primary Raman-type peaks, second-order peaks. These peaks describe higher harmonics in the slow noise-induced fluctuations of the osc…
We consider an extension of the real Lie algebra $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ by introducing a parity operator $P$ and a parameter $c$. This extended algebra is isomorphic to the Bannai-Ito algebra with two parameters equal to zero. For this algebra we classify all unitary finite-dimensional representations and show their relation with known representations of $\mathfrak{su}(2)$. Moreover, we present a model for a one-dimensional finite oscillator based on the odd-dimensional representations of this algebra. For this model, the spectrum of the position operator is equidistant and coincides with the spec…
The $C_λ$-extended oscillator spectrum generating algebra is shown to be a $C_λ$-extended $(λ-1)$th-degree polynomial deformation of su(1,1). Its coherent states are constructed. Their statistical and squeezing properties are studied in detail. Such states include both some Barut-Girardello and the standard $λ$-photon coherent states as special cases.
The phase diffusion in a self-sustained oscillator, which produces oscillator's spectral linewidth, is inherently governed by a nonlinear Langevin equation. Over past 40 years, the equation has been treated with linear approximation, rendering the nonlinearity's effects unknown. Here we solve the nonlinear Langevin equation using the perturbation method borrowed from quantum mechanics, and reveal the physics of the nonlinearity: slower phase diffusion (linewidth narrowing) and a surprising oscillation frequency shift that formally corresponds to the Lamb shift in quantum electrodynamics.
Quantum-mechanical WKB-method is elaborated for the known quantum oscillator problem in curved 3-spaces models Euclid, Riemann, and Lobachevsky E_{3}, H_{3}, S_{3} in the framework of the complex variable function theory. Generalized generally covariant Schrödinger equation is considered. In all three space models, exact energy levels are found with the help of constructing special formal WKB-sieries.
We outline the nonlinear transformation in the path integral representation for partition function of O(N) symmetric oscillator systems bringing their duality to certain one-dimensional oscillators with unstable potential shapes. This duality transformation realizes the equivalence between spectra of a Hermitian and a non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. It is exploited to calculate exactly the spectra of quantum rotators . The zero-temperature limit is considered and the dual representation of n-point correlators of coordinate operators is obtained.
Recent measurement on an LC resonator magnetically coupled to a superconducting qubit[arXiv:1005.1559] shows that the system operates in the ultra-strong coupling regime and crosses the limit of validity for the rotating-wave approximation of the Jaynes-Cummings model. By using extended bosonic coherent states, we solve the Jaynes-Cummings model exactly without the rotating-wave approximation. Our numerically exact results for the spectrum of the flux qubit coupled to the LC resonator are fully consistent with the experimental observations. The smallest Bloch-Siegert shift obtained is consiste…
The coherent state of a nonlinear oscillator having a nonlinear spectrum is constructed using Gazeau Klauder formalism. The weighting distribution and the Mandel parameter are studied. Details of the revival structure arising from different time scales underlying the quadratic energy spectrum are investigated by the phase analysis of the autocorrelation function.
The interest of quadratic algebras for position-dependent mass Schrödinger equations is highlighted by constructing spectrum generating algebras for a class of d-dimensional radial harmonic oscillators with $d \ge 2$ and a specific mass choice depending on some positive parameter $α$. Via some minor changes, the one-dimensional oscillator on the line with the same kind of mass is included in this class. The existence of a single unitary irreducible representation belonging to the positive-discrete series type for $d \ge 2$ and of two of them for d=1 is proved. The transition to the constant-ma…
When a non-hermitian hamiltonian has a certain symmetry, such as the PT pseudo-hermiticity, it is still possible that the hamiltonian has a real spectrum. In this note, by adding an imaginary potential proportional to ip_1p_2 to the hamiltonian of an anisotropic planar oscillator, we construct a PT pseudo-hermitian hamiltonian and obtain its real spectrum. In addition, we find that the reality of the energy spectrum remains when the model is extended to the canonical noncommutative space.
We suggest the exactly solvable model of the oscillator on a four-dimensional hyperboloid which interacts with a SU(2) instanton. We calculate its wavefunctions and spectrum.
We study the breaking of the discrete time-translation symmetry in small periodically driven quantum systems. Such systems are intermediate between large closed systems and small dissipative systems, which both display the symmetry breaking, but have qualitatively different dynamics. As a nontrivial example we consider period tripling in a quantum nonlinear oscillator. We show that, for moderately strong driving, the period tripling is robust on an exponentially long time scale, which is further extended by an even weak decoherence.
The convergence of the Rayleigh-Ritz method with nonlinear parameters optimized through minimization of the trace of the truncated matrix is demonstrated by a comparison with analytically known eigenstates of various quasi-solvable systems. We show that the basis of the harmonic oscillator eigenfunctions with optimized frequency ? enables determination of boundstate energies of one-dimensional oscillators to an arbitrary accuracy, even in the case of highly anharmonic multi-well potentials. The same is true in the spherically symmetric case of V (r) = ω2r2 2 + λrk, if k > 0. For spiked oscilla…
We discuss the quantum dynamics of the Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator. The Lagrangian of this higher-derivative model depends on two frequencies. When the frequencies are different, the free PU oscillator has a pure point spectrum that is dense everywhere. When the frequencies are equal, the spectrum is continuous. It is not bounded from below, running from minus to plus infinity, but this is not disastrous as the Hamiltonian is still Hermitian and the evolution operator is still unitary. Generically, the inclusion of interaction terms breaks unitarity, but in some special cases unitarity is preser…
We calculate the transmission spectrum of a superconducting circuit realization of the Dicke model and identify spectroscopic features that can serve as signatures of the superradiant phase. In particular, we calculate the resonance frequencies of the system as functions of the bias term, which is usually absent in studies on the Dicke model but is commonly present in superconducting qubit circuits. To avoid over-complicating the proposed circuit, we assume a fixed coupling strength. This situation precludes the possibility of observing signatures of the phase transition by varying the couplin…
We study a class of quantum two-dimensional models with complex potentials of specific form. They can be considered as the generalization of a recently studied model with quadratic interaction not amenable to conventional separation of variables. In the present case, the property of shape invariance provides the equidistant form of the spectrum and the algorithm to construct eigenfunctions analytically. It is shown that the Hamiltonian is non-diagonalizable, and the resolution of identity must include also the corresponding associated functions. In the specific case of anharmonic second-plus-f…
Conventional weak-coupling perturbation theory suffers from problems that arise from resonant coupling of successive orders in the perturbation series. Multiple-scale perturbation theory avoids such problems by implicitly performing an infinite reordering and resummation of the conventional perturbation series. Multiple-scale analysis provides a good description of the classical anharmonic oscillator. Here, it is extended to study the Heisenberg operator equations of motion for the quantum anharmonic oscillator. The analysis yields a system of nonlinear operator differential equations, which i…
We investigate non-inertial effects induced by a rotating frame on a non-relativistic quantum harmonic oscillator as well as of the topology associated to a screw dislocation, which corresponds to a distortion of a vertical line into a vertical spiral. To do this, we obtain the analytical solutions of the time-independent Schrödinger equation for this harmonic oscillator potential in this background. The expressions for the energy spectrum are obtained and the solutions for four quantum states, namely $n=0,1,2$ and $3$, are analysed. Our results show that the presence of the topological defect…
The two dimensional set of canonical relations giving rise to minimal uncertainties previously constructed from a q-deformed oscillator algebra is further investigated. We provide a representation for this algebra in terms of a flat noncommutative space and employ it to study the eigenvalue spectrum for the harmonic oscillator on this space. The perturbative expression for the eigenenergy indicates that the model might possess an exceptional point at which the spectrum becomes complex and its PT-symmetry is spontaneously broken.
We show that the noise spectrum of a parametrically excited nonlinear oscillator can display a fine structure. It emerges from the interplay of the nonequidistance of the oscillator quasienergy levels and quantum heating that accompanies relaxation. The heating leads to a finite-width distribution over the quasienergy, or Floquet states even for zero temperature of the thermal reservoir coupled to the oscillator. The fine structure is due to transitions from different quasienergy levels, and thus it provides a sensitive tool for studying the distribution. For larger damping, where the fine str…
In this work the Dirac oscillator in $(2+1)$ dimensions is considered. We solve the problem in polar coordinates and discuss the dependence of the energy spectrum on the spin parameter $s$ and angular momentum quantum number $m$. Contrary to earlier attempts, we show that the degeneracy of the energy spectrum can occur for all possible values of $sm$. In an additional analysis, we also show that an isolated bound state solution, excluded from Sturm-Liouville problem, exists.
We study the Schrödinger operator with a potential given by the sum of the potentials for harmonic oscillator and imaginary cubic oscillator and we focus on its pseudospectral properties. A summary of known results about the operator and its spectrum is provided and the importance of examining its pseudospectrum as well is emphasized. This is achieved by employing scaling techniques and treating the operator using semiclassical methods. The existence of pseudoeigenvalues very far from the spectrum is proven, and as a consequence, the spectrum of the operator is unstable with respect to small p…
$C_λ$-extended oscillator algebras are realized as generalized deformed oscillator algebras. For $λ= 3$, the spectrum of the corresponding bosonic oscillator Hamiltonian is shown to strongly depend on the algebra parameters. A connection with cyclic shape invariant potentials is noted. A bosonization of PSSQM of order two is obtained.
The solving of the Schrodinger equation for a position-dependent mass quantum system is studied in two ways. First, it is found the interaction which must be applied on a mass m(x) in order to supply it with a particular spectrum of energies. Second, given a specific potential V(x) acting on the mass m(x), the related spectrum is found. The method of solution is applied to a wide class of position-dependent mass oscillators and the corresponding coherent states are constructed. The analytical expressions of such position-dependent mass coherent states preserve the functional structure of the G…

This paper examines chains of $N$ coupled harmonic oscillators. In isolation, the $j$th oscillator ($1\leq j\leq N$) has the natural frequency $ω_j$ and is described by the Hamiltonian $\frac{1}{2}p_j^2+\frac{1}{2}ω_j^2x_j^2$. The oscillators are coupled adjacently with coupling constants that are purely imaginary; the coupling of the $j$th oscillator to the $(j+1)$st oscillator has the bilinear form $iγx_jx_{j+1}$ ($γ$ real). The complex Hamiltonians for these systems exhibit {\it partial} $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry; that is, they are invariant under $i\to-i$ (time reversal), $x_j\to-x_j$ ($j$ o…
In the context of a two-parameter $(α, β)$ deformation of the canonical commutation relation leading to nonzero minimal uncertainties in both position and momentum, the harmonic oscillator spectrum and eigenvectors are determined by using techniques of supersymmetric quantum mechanics combined with shape invariance under parameter scaling. The resulting supersymmetric partner Hamiltonians correspond to different masses and frequencies. The exponential spectrum is proved to reduce to a previously found quadratic spectrum whenever one of the parameters $α$, $β$ vanishes, in which case shape inva…
