Quantum entanglement is the quantum information processing resource. Thus it is of importance to understand how much of entanglement particular quantum states have, and what kinds of laws entanglement and also transformation between entanglement states subject to. Therefore, it is essentialy important to use proper measures of entanglement which have nice properties. One of the major candidates of such measures is "entanglement of formation", and whether this measurement is additive or not is an important open problem. We aim at certain states so-called "antisymmetric states" for which the add…
We study various distance-like entanglement measures of multipartite states under certain symmetries. Using group averaging techniques we provide conditions under which the relative entropy of entanglement, the geometric measure of entanglement and the logarithmic robustness are equivalent. We consider important classes of multiparty states, and in particular show that these measures are equivalent for all stabilizer states, symmetric basis and antisymmetric basis states. We rigorously prove a conjecture that the closest product state of permutation symmetric states can always be chosen to be …
This report gives a lower bound of entanglement cost for antisymmetric states of bipartite d-level systems to be log_2 (d/(d-1)) ebit (for d=3, E_c >= 0.585...). The paper quant-ph/0112131 claims that the value is equal to one ebit for d=3, since all of the eigenvalues of reduced matrix of any pure states living in N times tensor product of antisymmetric space is not greater than 2^(-N) thus the von Neumann entropy is not less than N, but the proof is not true. Hence whether the value is equal to or less than one ebit is not clear at this moment.
In the present paper we study two qubit entanglement in the most general $XYZ$ Heisenberg magnetic chain with (non)homogeneous magnetic fields and the DM anisotropic antisymmetric exchange interaction, arising from the spin-orbit coupling . The model includes all known results as particular cases, for both antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic $XX, XY, XXX, XXZ, XYZ$ chains. The concurrence of two qubit thermal entanglement and its dependence on anisotropic parameters, external magnetic field and temperature are studied in details. We found that in all cases, inclusion of the DM interaction, whi…
Thermal entanglement of a two-qubit Heisenberg chain in presence of the Dzyaloshinski-Moriya (DM) anisotropic antisymmetric interaction and entanglement teleportation when using two independent Heisenberg chains as quantum channel are investigated. It is found that the DM interaction can excite the entanglement and teleportation fidelity. The output entanglement increases linearly with increasing value of input one, its dependences on the temperature, DM interaction and spin coupling constant are given in detail. Entanglement teleportation will be better realized via antiferromagnetic spin cha…
We study the entanglement cost of the states in the contragredient space, which consists of $(d-1)$ $d$-dimensional systems. The cost is always $\log_2 (d-1)$ ebits when the state is divided into bipartite $\C^d \otimes (\C^d)^{d-2}$. Combined with the arguments in \cite{Matsumoto02}, additivity of channel capacity of some quantum channels is also shown.
In the present paper an influence of the anisotropic antisymmetric exchange interaction, the Dzialoshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction, on entanglement of two qubits in various magnetic spin models, including the pure DM model and the most general XYZ model are studied. We find that the time evolution generated by DM interaction can implement the SWAP gate and discuss realistic quasi-one-dimensional magnets where it can be realized. It is shown that inclusion of the DM interaction to any Heisenberg model creates, when it does not exist, or strengthens, when it exists, the entanglement. We give ph…
We analyse the entanglement of the antisymmetric state in dimension d x d and present two main results. First, we show that the amount of secrecy that can be extracted from the state is low, more precisely, the distillable key is bounded by O(1/d). Second, we show that the state is highly entangled in the sense that a large number of ebits are needed in order to create the state: entanglement cost is larger than a constant, independent of d. The second result is shown to imply that the regularised relative entropy with respect to separable states is also lower bounded by a constant. Finally, w…
The quantum renormalization group method is applied to study the quantum criticality and entanglement entropy of the ground state of the Ising chain in the presence of antisymmetric anisotropic couplings and alternating exchange interactions. The quantum phase transitions can be characterized by the discontinuity in the second derivative of the energy of renormalized ground state. The phase diagram is obtained by the critical boundary line. The first derivative of entanglement entropy also diverges at the same critical points after enough iterations of the renormalization of coupling constants…
We have synthesized the anti-symmetric spin exchange interaction (ASI), which is also called the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, in a superconducting circuit containing five superconducting qubits connected to a bus resonator, by periodically modulating the transition frequencies of the qubits with different modulation phases. This allows us to show the chiral spin dynamics in three-, four- and five-spin clusters. We also demonstrate a three-spin chiral logic gate and entangle up to five qubits in Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states. Our results pave the way for quantum simulation of magneti…
We discuss the creation of entanglement between two two-level atoms in the dissipative process of spontaneous emission. It is shown that spontaneous emission can lead to a transient entanglement between the atoms even if the atoms were prepared initially in an unentangled state. The amount of entanglement created in the system is quantified by using two different measures: concurrence and negativity. We find analytical formulas for the evolution of concurrence and negativity in the system. We also find the analytical relation between the two measures of entanglement. The system consists of two…

We study the additivity property of three multipartite entanglement measures, i.e. the geometric measure of entanglement (GM), the relative entropy of entanglement and the logarithmic global robustness. First, we show the additivity of GM of multipartite states with real and non-negative entries in the computational basis. Many states of experimental and theoretical interests have this property, e.g. Bell diagonal states, maximally correlated generalized Bell diagonal states, generalized Dicke states, the Smolin state, and the generalization of Dür's multipartite bound entangled states. We als…
In this paper, we have given the symmetrical and antisymmetrical spin and space wave functions of three-electron, and further given the full total entanglement states for the three-electron, which are related to their space and spin wave function. When we study particles entanglement we not only consider their spin entanglement and also consider their space entanglement. Otherwise, we find that electrons entanglement are restricted to the teeny range, when electrons exceed the space range, their entanglement should be broken down even disappearance, which is accordance with the experiments res…
We analyze the role of resonances in two-fermion entanglement production for a quasi one-dimensional two channel scattering problem. We solve exactly for the problem of a two-fermion antisymmetric product state scattering off a double delta well potential. It is shown that the two-particle concurrence of the post-selected state has an oscillatory behavior where the concurrence vanishes at the values of momenta for virtual bound states in the double well. These concurrence zeros are interpreted in terms of the uncertainty in the knowledge of the state of the one particle subspace reduced one pa…
Bipartite quantum entanglement for qutrits and higher-dimensional objects is considered. We analyze the possibility of violation of monogamy inequality, introduced by Coffman, Kundu, and Wootters, for some systems composed of such objects. An explicit counterexample with a three-qutrit totally antisymmetric state is presented. Since three-tangle has been confirmed to be a natural measure of entanglement for qubit systems, our result shows that the three-tangle is no longer a legitimate measure of entanglement for states with three qutrits or higher dimensional objects.
The entanglement dynamics of a laser-pumped two-level quantum dot pair is investigated in the steady-state. The closely spaced two-level emitters, embedded in a semiconductor substrate, interact with both the environmental vacuum modes of the electromagnetic field reservoir as well as with the lattice vibrational phonon thermostat. We have found that the entanglement among the pair's components is substantially enhanced due to presence of the phonon subsystem. The reason is phonon induced decay among the symmetrical and antisymmetrical two-qubit collective states and, consequently, the populat…

In this work we find explicitly the decoherence free subspace (DFS) for a two two-level system in a common squeezed vacuum bath. We also find an orthogonal basis for the DFS composed of a symmetrical and an antisymmetrical (under particle permutation) entangled state. For any initial symmetrical state, the master equation has one stationary state which is the symmetrical entangled decoherence free state. In this way, one can generate entanglement via common squeezed bath of the two systems. If the initial state does not have a definite parity, the stationary state depends strongly on the initi…
We propose entanglement measures with asymptotic weak-monotonicity. We show that a normalized form of entanglement measures with the asymptotic weak-monotonicity are lower (upper) bound for the entanglement of cost (distillation).
We compute entanglement cost and distillable entanglement of states supported on symmetric subspace. Not only giving general formula, we apply them to the output states of optimal cloning machines. Surprisingly, under some settings, the optimal n to m clone and true m copies are the same in entanglement measures. However, they differ in the error exponent of entanglement dilution. We also presented a general theory of entanglement dilution which is applicable to any non-i.i.d sequence of states.
We show that the entanglement of cost and entanglement of distillation can be vague when we consider a more general form of entanglement manipulation in which we collectively deal with not only states of our concern but also other states. We introduce the most general entanglement manipulation in which the formation and distillation can be simultaneously performed. We show that in a certain case entanglement manipulations are reversible with respect to the most general entanglement manipulation. This broadens our scope of vision on the irreversibility of entanglement manipulations.
We give a detailed proof of the conjecture that the asymptotic entanglement cost of preparing a bipartite state ρis equal to the regularized entanglement of formation of ρ.
We analyse the relationship between the full additivity of the entanglement cost and its full monotonicity under local operations and classical communication. We show that the two properties are equivalent for the entanglement cost. The proof works for the regularization of any convex, subadditive, and asymptotically continuous entanglement monotone, and hence also applies to the asymptotic relative entropy of entanglement.
The "entanglement cost" of a bipartite measurement is the amount of shared entanglement two participants need to use up in order to carry out the given measurement by means of local operations and classical communication. Here we numerically investigate the entanglement cost of generic orthogonal measurements on two qubits. Our results strongly suggest that for almost all measurements of this kind, the entanglement cost is strictly greater than the average entanglement of the eigenstates associated with the measurements, implying that the nonseparability of a two-qubit orthogonal measurement i…
Entanglement bits or ``ebits'' have been proposed as a quantitative measure of a fundamental resource in quantum information processing. For such an interpretation to be valid, it is important to show that the same number of ebits in different forms or concentrations are inter-convertible in the asymptotic limit. Here we draw attention to a very important but hitherto unnoticed aspect of entanglement manipulation --- the classical communication cost. We construct an explicit procedure which demonstrates that for bi-partite pure states, in the asymptotic limit, entanglement can be concentrated …
We present the minimal energy costs for the measurement and the information erase, using only the Helmholtz free energy and the entanglement of formation. The entanglement of formation appears in the form of difference which indicates the amount of entanglement transfer on the memory during the processes; the cost of the measurement is given by the entanglement gain, whereas the cost of the information erase is given by the loss of available entanglement. Putting together the present Letter and Rev. E 88, 042143 (2013), we can describe the violation and the restoration of the second law only i…
We study the entanglement cost under quantum operations preserving the positivity of the partial transpose (PPT-operations). We demonstrate that this cost is directly related to the logarithmic negativity, thereby providing the operational interpretation for this easily computable entanglement measure. As examples we discuss general Werner states and arbitrary bi-partite Gaussian states. Equipped with this result we then prove that for the anti-symmetric Werner state PPT-cost and PPT-entanglement of distillation coincide giving the first example of a truly mixed state for which entanglement ma…
What is the energy cost of extracting entanglement from complex quantum systems? In other words, given a state of a quantum system, how much energy does it cost to extract m EPR pairs? This is an important question, particularly for quantum field theories where the vacuum is generally highly entangled. Here we build a theory to understand the energy cost of entanglement extraction. First, we apply it to a toy model, and then we define the entanglement temperature, which relates the energy cost to the amount of extracted entanglement. Next, we give a physical argument to find the energy cost of…

We first investigate the one-shot static entanglement cost to simulate a bipartite quantum channel under the set of non-entangling channels. The lower bound on the static entanglement cost is given by the generalized robustness of the target channel as well as the robust-generating power of the channel, which implies that the cost necessary to generate a bipartite quantum channel might not be retrievable in general. Next, we conceive a set of quantum channels that extends the set of non-entangling channels. We find out that the one-shot static entanglement cost under the extended set of channe…
The entanglement cost of arbitrary sequences of bipartite states is shown to be expressible as the minimization of a conditional spectral entropy rate over sequences of separable extensions of the states in the sequence. The expression is shown to reduce to the regularized entanglement of formation when the n-th state in the sequence consists of n copies of a single bipartite state.
We report the exact entanglement cost of a class of multiqubit bound entangled states, computed in the context of a universal model for multipartite state preparation. The exact amount of entanglement needed to prepare such states are determined by first obtaining lower bounds using a cut-set approach, and then providing explicit local protocols achieving the lower bound.
We compute the entanglement cost of several families of bipartite mixed states, including arbitrary mixtures of two Bell states. This is achieved by developing a technique that allows us to ascertain the additivity of the entanglement of formation for any state supported on specific subspaces. As a side result, the proof of the irreversibility in asymptotic local manipulations of entanglement is extended to two-qubit systems.
In this paper we pose the question of how one can quantify the amount of entanglement necessary to create a given steering assemblage, when the original state and measurements are unknown. To do this, we extend the concepts of entanglement cost and entanglement of formation to steering assemblages, and show how to upper bound them with semidefinite programming. We prove that the entanglement of formation for assemblages is not generally continuous and not a flat roof extension; and use numerical analysis to illustrate these properties. Finally, we discuss the consequences of these results for …
Establishing quantum entanglement between two distant parties is an essential step of many protocols in quantum information processing. One possibility for providing long-distance entanglement is to create an entangled composite state within a lab and then physically send one subsystem to a distant lab. However, is this the "cheapest" way? Here, we investigate the minimal "cost" that is necessary for establishing a certain amount of entanglement between two distant parties. We prove that this cost is intrinsically quantum, and is specified by quantum correlations. Our results provide an optima…
We quantify the one-shot entanglement cost of an arbitrary bipartite state, that is the minimum number of singlets needed by two distant parties to create a single copy of the state up to a finite accuracy, using local operations and classical communication only. This analysis, in contrast to the traditional one, pertains to scenarios of practical relevance, in which resources are finite and transformations can only be achieved approximately. Moreover, it unveils a fundamental relation between two well-known entanglement measures, namely, the Schmidt number and the entanglement of formation. U…
We investigate the minimum entanglement cost of the deterministic implementation of two-qubit controlled-unitary operations using local operations and classical communication (LOCC). We show that any such operation can be implemented by a three-turn LOCC protocol, which requires at least 1 ebit of entanglement when the resource is given by a bipartite entangled state with Schmidt number 2. Our result implies that there is a gap between the minimum entanglement cost and the entangling power of controlled-unitary operations. This gap arises due to the requirement of implementing the operations w…
We prove that there is a trade-off relation between the entanglement cost and the number of rounds of communication, for two distant parties to accomplish a bidirectional quantum information task by local operations and classical communication (LOCC). We consider an implementation of a class of two-qubit controlled-unitary gate by LOCC assisted by shared entanglement, in an information theoretical scenario of asymptotically many input pairs and vanishingly small error. We prove the trade-off relation by showing that one ebit of entanglement per pair is necessary to be consumed for implementing…
Bipartite entanglement is one of the fundamental quantifiable resources of quantum information theory. We propose a new application of this resource to the theory of quantum measurements. According to Naimark's theorem any rank 1 generalised measurement (POVM) M may be represented as a von Neumann measurement in an extended (tensor product) space of the system plus ancilla. By considering a suitable average of the entanglements of these measurement directions and minimising over all Naimark extensions, we define a notion of entanglement cost E_min(M) of M. We give a constructive means of chara…
For certain joint measurements on a pair of spatially separated particles, we ask how much entanglement is needed to carry out the measurement exactly. For a class of orthogonal measurements on two qubits with partially entangled eigenstates, we present upper and lower bounds on the entanglement cost. The upper bound is based on a recent result by D. Berry [Phys. Rev. A 75, 032349 (2007)]. The lower bound, based on the entanglement production capacity of the measurement, implies that for almost all measurements in the class we consider, the entanglement required to perform the measurement is s…

We introduce and analyze graph-associated entanglement cost, a generalization of the entanglement cost of quantum states to multipartite settings. We identify a necessary and sufficient condition for any multipartite entangled state to be constructible when quantum communication between the multiple parties is restricted to a quantum network represented by a tree. The condition for exact state construction is expressed in terms of the Schmidt ranks of the state defined with respect to edges of the tree. We also study approximate state construction and provide a second-order asymptotic analysis…
We investigate how much amount of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entanglement is required in order to prepare a given multipartite state by local operations and classical communication (LOCC).We present a LOCC procedure that asymptotically converts GHZ states into an arbitrary multipartite pure state, whose conversion rate is given by the multipartite discord of the state. This reveals that the GHZ-entanglement cost of preparing a pure state is not higher than the multipartite discord of the state. It also provides an operational interpretation of multipartite discord for pure states, namel…
This report is about contradiction between fidelity needed to determine the entanglement and concomitant noise that always accompanies precise measurement. Account of quantum properties of field leads to additional noise caused by multiple particle creation through nonunitarity of quantum field representation in embedded sections of space (Unruh noise). Causes of quantum noise vanish at leaving off assumption about statistical independence of detectors. Smearing of detector leads to elimination of causes of Unruh noise and to emergence of imaginary entanglement of few mode states caused by ove…

We present the generalized version of Wang's protocol[A.M.Wang, Phys.Rev.A 74,032317 (2006)] for the remote implementation(sometimes referred to as quantum remote control) of partially unknown quantum operations. The protocol only requires no more than half of the entanglements used in Bidirectional Quantum State Teleportation. We also propose a protocol for another form of quantum remote control. It can remotely implement a unitary operation which is a combination of the projective representations of a group. Moreover, we prove that the Schmidt rank of the entanglements cannot not be less tha…

The Schmidt number is an entanglement measure whose logarithm quantifies the zero-error entanglement cost of generating a given quantum state using local operations and classical communication (LOCC). %However, the Schmidt number is a notoriously difficult quantity to compute, and its relationship to other entanglement measures is largely unknown. In this paper we show that the Schmidt number is highly non-multiplicative in the sense that for any integer $n$, there exists states whose Schmidt number remains constant when taking $n$ copies of the given state. These states also provide a rare in…
Entanglement appears in two different ways in quantum mechanics, namely as a property of states and as a property of measurement outcomes in joint measurements. By combining these two aspects of entanglement, it is possible to generate nonlocality between particles that never interacted, using the protocol of entanglement swapping. We investigate the communication cost of classically simulating this process. While the communication cost of simulating nonlocal correlations of entangled states appears to be generally quite low, we show here that infinite communication is required to simulate ent…

Recently, several similar protocols[J. Opt. B 4 (2002) 380; Phys. Lett. A 316 (2003) 159; Phys. Lett. A 355 (2006) 285; Phys. Lett. A 336 (2005) 317] for remotely preparing a class of multi-qubit states (i.e, $α|0 ... 0>+β|1... 1>$) are proposed, respectively. In this paper, by applying the controlled-not (CNOT) gate, a new simple protocol is proposed for remotely preparing such class of states. Compared to the previous protocols, both classical communication cost and required quantum entanglement in our protocol are remarkably reduced. Moreover, the difficulty of identifying some quantum stat…
Provable entanglement has been shown to be a necessary precondition for unconditionally secure key generation in the context of quantum cryptographic protocols. We estimate the maximal threshold disturbance up to which the two legitimate users can prove the presence of quantum correlations in their data, in the context of the four- and six-state quantum key-distribution protocols, under the assumption of coherent attacks. Moreover, we investigate the conditions under which an eavesdropper can saturate these bounds, by means of incoherent and two-qubit coherent attacks. A direct connection betw…
We study the amount of communication needed for two parties to transform some given joint pure state into another one, either exactly or with some fidelity. Specifically, we present a method to lower bound this communication cost even when the amount of entanglement does not increase. Moreover, the bound applies even if the initial state is supplemented with unlimited entanglement in the form of EPR pairs, and the communication is allowed to be quantum mechanical. We then apply the method to the determination of the communication cost of asymptotic entanglement concentration and dilution. Whil…
Entanglement concentration requires no classical communication, but the best prior art result for diluting to N copies of a partially entangled state requires an amount of communication on the order of sqrt(N) bits. Our main result is to prove this prior art result optimal up to a constant factor; any procedure for creating N partially entangled states from singlets requires Omega(sqrt(N)) bits of classical communication. Previously not even a constant bound was known for approximate entanglement transforms. We also prove a lower bound on the inefficiency of the process: to dilute singlets to …
The entanglement cost of a quantum channel is the minimal rate at which entanglement (between sender and receiver) is needed in order to simulate many copies of a quantum channel in the presence of free classical communication. In this paper we show how to express this quantity as a regularised optimisation of the entanglement formation over states that can be generated between sender and receiver. Our formula is the channel analog of a well-known formula for the entanglement cost of quantum states in terms of the entanglement of formation; and shares a similar relation to the recently shatter…
We consider implementations of a bipartite unitary on many pairs of unknown input states by local operation and classical communication assisted by shared entanglement. We investigate to what extent the entanglement cost and the classical communication cost can be compressed by allowing nonzero but vanishing error in the asymptotic limit of infinite pairs. We show that a lower bound on the minimal entanglement cost, the forward classical communication cost, and the backward classical communication cost per pair is given by the Schmidt strength of the unitary. We also prove that an upper bound …
Electronic devices all around us contain classical control circuits. Such circuits consist of a network of controllers which can read and write signals to wires of the circuit with the goal to minimize the cost function of the circuit's output signal. Here, we propose the use of shared entanglement between controllers as a resource to improve the performance of otherwise purely classical control circuits. We study a well-known example from the classical control literature and demonstrate that allowing two controllers to share entanglement improves their ability to control. More precisely, we e…
