We analyse the relationship between the full additivity of the entanglement cost and its full monotonicity under local operations and classical communication. We show that the two properties are equivalent for the entanglement cost. The proof works for the regularization of any convex, subadditive, and asymptotically continuous entanglement monotone, and hence also applies to the asymptotic relative entropy of entanglement.

It is shown that if a mixed state can be distilled to the singlet form, it must violate partial transposition criterion [A. Peres, Phys. Rev. Lett. 76, 1413 (1996)]. We present new algorithms for mixed-state multi-copy entanglement distillation for pairs of qubits. Our algorithms perform significantly better than the best known algorithms. Better algorithms can be derived that are tuned for specific initial states. The new algorithms are based on a characterization of the group of all locally realizable permutations of the 4^n possible tensor products of n Bell states.
