We analyze the role of resonances in two-fermion entanglement production for a quasi one-dimensional two channel scattering problem. We solve exactly for the problem of a two-fermion antisymmetric product state scattering off a double delta well potential. It is shown that the two-particle concurrence of the post-selected state has an oscillatory behavior where the concurrence vanishes at the values of momenta for virtual bound states in the double well. These concurrence zeros are interpreted in terms of the uncertainty in the knowledge of the state of the one particle subspace reduced one particle density matrix. Our results suggest manipulation of fermion entanglement production through the resonance structure of quantum dots.
The resonance fluorescence from regular atomic systems is shown to represent a continuous source of non-Gaussian entangled radiation propagating in two different directions. For a single atom entanglement occurs under the same conditions as squeezing. For more atoms, the entanglement can be more robust against dephasing than squeezing, hence providing a useful continuous source for various applications of entangled radiation.
We study the relationship between entanglement and parametric resonance in a system of two coupled time-dependent oscillators. As a measure of bipartite entanglement, we calculate the linear entropy for the reduced density operator, from which we study the entanglement dynamics. In particular, we find that the bipartite entanglement increases in time up to a maximal mixing scenario, when the set of auxiliary dynamical parameters are under parametric resonance. Moreover, we obtain a closed relationship between the correlations in the ground state, the localisation of the Wigner function in phas…
We show that nonlinear resonances in a classically mixed phase space allow to define generic, strongly entangled multi-partite quantum states. The robustness of their multipartite entanglement increases with the particle number, i.e. in the semiclassical limit, for those classes of diffusive noise which assist the quantum-classical transition.
We consider a spin-1/2 anisotropic XY model with time-dependent spin-spin coupling as means of creating long-distance entanglement. We predict the emergence of significant entanglement between the first and the last spin whenever the ac part of the coupling has a frequency matching the Zeeman splitting. In particular, we find that the concurrence assumes its maximum with a vanishing dc part. Mapping the time-dependent Hamiltonian within a rotating-wave approximation to an effective static model provides qualitative and quantitative understanding of this entanglement resonance. Numerical result…
We investigate the entanglement features in the interacting system of a quantized optical field and a two-level system which is statically driven, known as the asymmetric quantum Rabi model (AsymQRM). Intriguing entanglement resonance valleys with the increase of the photon-atom coupling strength and peaks with the increase of the driving amplitude are found. It is revealed that both of these two kinds of entanglement resonance are caused by the avoided level crossing of the associated eigenenergies. In sharp contrast to the quantum Rabi model, the entanglement of the AsymQRM collapses to zero…
Entangled quantum states are an important element of quantum information techniques. We determine the requirements for states of quadrupolar nuclei with spins >1/2 to be entangled. It was shown that entanglement is achieved at low temperature by applying a magnetic field to a quadrupolar nuclei possess quadrupole moments, which interacts with the electricfield gradient produced by the charge distribution in their surroundings.

We show that the entanglement entropy of single quasiparticle excitations of one dimensional systems exceeds the ground state entanglement entropy for log(2), if the correlation length of the system is finite. For quadratic fermion systems we show that the excess of entanglement is related to the number of quasiparticles in the excited state. This observation is confirmed by numerical examples of one dimensional quantum many-body systems, including nonintegrable. Tensor network methods to describe quasiparticle excitations are discussed.
We show how to create maximally entangled dressed states of a weakly interacting multi-partite quantum system by suitably tuning an external, periodic driving field. Floquet theory allows us to relate, in a transparent manner, the occurrence of entanglement resonances to avoided crossings in the spectrum of quasi-energies, tantamount of well-defined conditions for the controlled, resonant interaction of particles. We demonstrate the universality of the phenomenon for periodically driven, weakly interacting two-level systems, by considering different interaction mechanisms and driving profiles.…
Any bipartite quantum state has quasi-probability representations in terms of separable states. For entangled states these quasi-probabilities necessarily exhibit negativities. Based on the general structure of composite quantum states, one may reconstruct such quasi-propabilities from experimental data. Because of ambiguity, the quasi-probabilities obtained by the bare reconstruction are insufficient to identify entanglement. An optimization procedure is introduced to derive quasi-probabilities with a minimal amount of negativity. Negativities of optimized quasi-probabilities unambiguously pr…
We examine the maximum entanglement reached by an initially fully aligned state evolving in an XY Heisenberg spin chain placed in a uniform transverse magnetic field. Both the global entanglement between one qubit and the rest of the chain and the pairwise entanglement between adjacent qubits is analyzed. It is shown that in both cases the maximum is not a monotonous decreasing function of the aligning field, exhibiting instead a resonant behavior for low anisotropies, with pronounced peaks (a total of [n/2] peaks in the global entanglement for an $n$-spin chain), whose width is proportional t…
We generalize the symmetric multi-qubit states to their q-analogs, whose basis vectors are identified with the q-Dicke states. We study the entanglement entropy in these states and find that entanglement is extruded towards certain regions of the system due to the inhomogeneity aroused by q-deformation. We also calculate entanglement entropy in ground states of a related q-deformed Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model and show that the singularities of entanglement can correctly signify the quantum phase transition points for different strengths of q-deformation.
We develop a new entanglement measure by extending Jaeger's Minkowskian norm entanglement measure. This measure can be applied to a much wider class of multipartite mixed states, although still "quasi" in the sense that it is still incapable of dividing precisely the sets of all separable and entangled states. As a quadratic scalar function of the system density matrix, the quasi measure can be easily expressed in terms of the so-called coherence vector of the system density matrix, by which we show the basic properties of the quasi measure including (1) zero-entanglement for all separable sta…
Recently, Yu, Brown, and Chuang [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 71}, 032341 (2005)] investigated the entanglement attainable from unitary transformed thermal states in liquid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Their research gave an insight into the role of the entanglement in a liquid-state NMR quantum computer. Moreover, they attempted to reveal the role of mixed-state entanglement in quantum computing. However, they assumed that the Zeeman energy of each nuclear spin which corresponds to a qubit takes a common value for all; there is no chemical shift. In this paper, we research a model with the ch…
We investigate the build-up of quasi-long-range order in the XX chain with transverse magnetic field at finite size. As the field is varied, the ground state of the system displays multiple level crossings producing a sequence of entanglement jumps. Using the partial fidelity and susceptibility, we study the transition to the thermodynamic limit and argue that the topological order can be described in terms of kink-antikink pairs and marked by edge spin entanglement.
By making use of the spatial shape of paired photons, parametric down-conversion allows the generation of two-photon entanglement in a multidimensional Hilbert space. How much entanglement can be generated in this way? In principle, the infinite-dimensional nature of the spatial degree of freedom renders unbounded the amount of entanglement available. However, in practice, the specific configuration used, namely its geometry, the length of the nonlinear crystal and the size of the pump beam, can severely limit the value that could be achieved. Here we show that the use of quasi-phase-matching …
We study the entanglement dynamics of discrete time quantum walks acting on bounded finite sized graphs. We demonstrate that, depending on system parameters, the dynamics may be monotonic, oscillatory but highly regular, or quasi-periodic. While the dynamics of the system are not chaotic since the system comprises linear evolution, the dynamics often exhibit some features similar to chaos such as high sensitivity to the system's parameters, irregularity and infinite periodicity. Our observations are of interest for entanglement generation, which is one primary use for the quantum walk formalis…
We analyse a system in which, due to entanglement between the spin and spatial degrees of freedom, the reduced transmitted state has the shape of the freely propagating pulse translated in the complex co-ordinate plane. In the case an apparently "superluminal" advancement of the pulse the delay amplitude distribution is found to be a peculiar approximation to the Dirac delta-function, and the transmission coefficient exhibits a well-defined super-oscillatory window. Analogies with potential tunnelling and the Wheeler's delayed choice experiment are highlighted.
We show that the relativistic motion of a quantum system can be used to generate quantum gates. The nonuniform acceleration of a cavity is used to generate well-known two-mode quantum gates in continuous variables. Observable amounts of entanglement between the cavity modes are produced through resonances which appear by repeating periodically any trajectory.
We study theoretically the entanglement created in a scattering between an electron, incoming from a source lead, and another electron bound in the ground state of a quantum dot, connected to two leads. We analyze the role played by the different kinds of resonances in the transmission spectra and by the number of scattering channels, into the amount of quantum correlations between the two identical carriers. It is shown that the entanglement between their energy states is not sensitive to the presence of Breit-Wigner resonances, while it presents a peculiar behavior in correspondence of Fano …
Two-photon optical transitions combined with long-range dipole-dipole interactions can be used for the coherent manipulation of collective metastable states composed of different atoms. We show that it is possible to induce optical resonances accompanied by the generation of entangled superpositions of the atomic states. Resonances of this kind can be used to implement quantum logic gates using optically excited single atoms (impurities) in the condensed phase.
We consider qubit networks where adjacent qubits besides interacting via XY-coupling, also dissipate into the same environment. The steady states are computed exactly for all network sizes and topologies, showing that they are always symmetric under permutation of network sites, leading to a uniform distribution of the stationary entanglement across the network. The maximum entanglement between two arbitrary qubits is shown to depend only on the total number of qubits in the network, and scales linearly with it. A possible physical realization by means of an array of doped cavities is discusse…
Different regimes of entanglement growth under measurement have been demonstrated for quantum many-body systems, with an entangling phase for low measurement rates and a disentangling phase for high rates (quantum Zeno effect). Here we study entanglement growth on a disordered Bose-Fermi mixture with the bosons playing the role of the effective self-induced measurement for the fermions. Due to the interplay between the disorder and a non-Abelian symmetry, the model features an entanglement growth resonance when the boson-fermion interaction strength is varied. With the addition of a magnetic f…
We consider two qubits interacting with local and collective thermal reservoirs. Each spin-reservoir interaction consists of an energy exchange and an energy conserving channel. We prove a resonance representation of the reduced dynamics of the spins, valid for all times t>=0, with errors (small interaction) estimated rigorously, uniformly in time. Subspaces associated to non-interacting energy differences evolve independently, partitioning the reduced density matrix into dynamically decoupled clusters of jointly evolving matrix elements. Within each subspace the dynamics is markovian with a g…
We study topological properties of quasi-particle states in the non-Abelian quantum Hall states. We apply a skein-theoretic method to the Read--Rezayi state whose effective theory is the SU(2)_K Chern--Simons theory. As a generalization of the Pfaffian (K=2) and the Fibonacci (K=3) anyon states, we compute the braiding matrices of quasi-particle states with arbitrary spins. Furthermore we propose a method to compute the entanglement entropy skein-theoretically. We find that the entanglement entropy has a nontrivial contribution called the topological entanglement entropy which depends on the q…
We propose a method of generating entanglement using single photons and electron spins in the regime of resonance scattering. The technique involves matching the spontaneous emission rate of the spin dipole transition in bulk dielectric to the modified rate of spontaneous emission of the dipole coupled to the fundamental mode of an optical microcavity. We call this regime resonance scattering where interference between the input photons and those scattered by the resonantly coupled dipole transition result in a reflectivity of zero. The contrast between this and the unit reflectivity when the …
We investigate the construction of quantum low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes from classical quasi-cyclic (QC) LDPC codes with girth greater than or equal to 6. We have shown that the classical codes in the generalized Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction do not need to satisfy the dual-containing property as long as pre-shared entanglement is available to both sender and receiver. We can use this to avoid the many 4-cycles which typically arise in dual-containing LDPC codes. The advantage of such quantum codes comes from the use of efficient decoding algorithms such as sum-product alg…
We investigate the entanglement transfer from a bipartite continuous-variable (CV) system to a pair of localized qubits assuming that each CV mode couples to one qubit via the off-resonance Jaynes-Cummings interaction with different interaction times for the two subsystems. First, we consider the case of the CV system prepared in a Bell-like superposition and investigate the conditions for maximum entanglement transfer. Then we analyze the general case of two-mode CV states that can be represented by a Schmidt decomposition in the Fock number basis. This class includes both Gaussian and non Ga…
The density matrix equations of motion in near-degenerate three-level V-type closed-loop atomic system are calculated numerically in Floquet frame. The dynamical behavior of atom- photon entanglement between the dressed atom and its spontaneous emission is studied in semi classical approach beyond the two-photon resonance condition in such a system. The quantum entropy of these two subsystems is investigated by using the von Neumann entropy. It is shown that, the degree of entanglement measure (DEM) can be controlled via the intensity and the detuning of coupling optical field and quantum inte…
We investigate creation, manipulation, and steering of entanglement in spin chains from the viewpoint of quantum communication between distant parties. We demonstrate how global parametric driving of the spin-spin coupling and/or local time-dependent Zeeman fields produce a large amount of entanglement between the first and the last spin of the chain. This occurs whenever the driving frequency meets a resonance condition, identified as "entanglement resonance". Our approach marks a promising step towards an efficient quantum state transfer or teleportation in solid state system. Following the …
We study a model of two coupled two-level atoms (qubits) interacting off-resonance (at non-zero detuning) with a single mode radiation field. This system is of special interest in the field of quantum information processing (QIP) and can be realized in electron spin states in quantum dots or Rydberg atoms in optical cavities and superconducting qubits in linear resonators. We present an exact analytical solution for the time evolution of the system starting from any initial state. Utilizing this solution, we show how the entanglement sudden death (ESD), which represents a major threat to QIP, …
We present a proposal for the experimental observation of energy-time entanglement of quasi-particles in mesoscopic physics. This type of entanglement arises whenever correlated particles are produced at the same time and this time is uncertain in the sense of quantum uncertainty, as has been largely used in photonics. We discuss its feasibility for electron-hole pairs. In particular, we argue that the recently fabricated 2DEG-2DHG junctions, irradiated with a continuous laser, behave as "entanglers" for energy-time entanglement.
We investigate the time-frequency signatures of an on-chip biphoton frequency comb (BFC) generated from a silicon nitride microring resonator. Using a Franson interferometer, we examine the multifrequency nature of the photon pair source in a time entanglement measurement scheme; having multiple frequency modes from the BFC results in a modulation of the interference pattern. This measurement together with a Schmidt mode decomposition shows that the generated continuous variable energy-time entangled state spans multiple pair-wise modes. Additionally, we demonstrate nonlocal dispersion cancell…
We consider the dynamics of a system consisting of two two-level atoms interacting with the electromagnetic field near an optical black hole. We obtain the reduced density operator of the two-atom system in the weak coupling regime for the case that one atom is in the excited state and the other in the ground state. The time evolution of the negativity between the atoms is discussed for two non-resonance and resonance cases. In both cases, we show that the two atoms can become entangled due to the indirect interaction mediated through the optical black hole.
We characterize and construct time-independent Markovian dynamics that drive a finite-dimensional multipartite quantum system into a target (pure) entangled steady state, subject to physical locality constraints. In situations where the desired stabilization task can not be attained solely based on local dissipative means, we allow for local Hamiltonian control or, if the latter is not an option, we suitably restrict the set of admissible initial states. In both cases, we provide algorithms for constructing a master equation that achieves the intended objective and show how this can genuinely …
The entanglement and resonance energy transfer between two-level quantum emitters are typically limited to sub-wavelength distances due to the inherently short-range nature of the dipole-dipole interactions. Moreover, the entanglement of quantum systems is hard to preserve for a long time period due to decoherence and dephasing mainly caused by radiative and nonradiative losses. In this work, we outperform the aforementioned limitations by presenting efficient long-range inter-emitter entanglement and large enhancement of resonance energy transfer between two optical qubits mediated by epsilon…

We demonstrate the presence of genuine multipartite entanglement between the modes of quantum fields in non-uniformly moving cavities. The transformations generated by the cavity motion can be considered as multipartite quantum gates. We present two setups for which multi-mode entanglement can be generated for bosons and fermions. As a highlight we show that the bosonic genuine multipartite correlations can be resonantly enhanced. Our results provide fundamental insights into the structure of Bogoliubov transformations and suggest strong links between quantum information, quantum fields in cur…
We study the entanglement evolution of two coupled qubits in interaction with an external environment and in the presence of an external magnetic field with a stochastic component. The results show the expected degradation of entanglement due to the noise. The new effect is that the time of disentanglement depends in a non-monotonous way on the strength of the noise. We find that it is shortest for an intermediate strength value of the latter. This we call "stochastic anti-resonance". Our results could lead to a better undestanding of noisy perturbations and their role for optimal designing of…
Recently, the authors [arXiv quant-ph 1209.3706] studied quantum discord for Werner mixed states based on the four entangled coherent states, which are used for quantum teleportation of single qubit information encoded in superposed coherent state and compared it with entanglement of formation. In the present paper, we consider two more general bipartite superposed coherent states and get two quasi-Werner states. We study quantum discord and entanglement of formation for these states and compare them.
We study the entanglement and work statistics in a driven two-qubit system. The regulation of periodic driving has much more versatility and universality in contrast to reservoir engineering in static systems. We found the quasi-steady state entanglement can be amplified effectively by the external drive in certain parameter regimes. The drive extends the range of temperatures or temperature differences at which entanglement can emerge. From the view of the effective Hamiltonian, the addition of the driving alters the inter-qubit coupling and system-bath coupling, which are crucial in determin…
Present work is an attempt to compare quantum discord and quantum entanglement of Werner states formed with the four bipartite entangled coherent states (ECS) used recently for quantum teleportation of a qubit encoded in superposed coherent state. Out of these, two based on maximally ECS are exactly similar to the perfect Werner state, while the rest two, based on non-maximally ECS, which are called quasi-Werner states behave in somewhat different ways and their quantum discord and entanglement depends on the coherent amplitude and the measurement basis.
We study the excess of (Renyi) entanglement entropy in various free field theories for the locally excited states defined by acting with local operators on the ground state. It is defined by subtracting the entropy for the ground state from the one for the excited state. Here the spacetime dimension is greater than or equal to 4. We find a correspondence between entanglement and a probability. The probability with which a quasi-particle exists in a subregion gives the excess of the entropy. We also propose a toy model which reproduces the excess in the replica method. In this model, a quasi-pa…
Wavevector quasi-phase matching was devised in the 1960s as a way to boost nonlinear interactions with efficient quantum noise squeezing as one outstanding outcome. In the era of quantum technologies, we propose a new coupling quasi-phase matching for efficient generation of multimode downconverted quantum light in nonlinear waveguide arrays. We highlight this technique achieving multimode quantum entanglement and Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering buildup. We discuss the feasibility of this method with current technology and demonstrate its competitiveness as a resource for continuous variables…
The mesoscopic scale of superconducting qubits makes their inter-spacings comparable to the scale of wavelength of a circuit cavity field to which they commonly couple. This comparability results in inhomogeneous coupling strengthes for each qubit and hence asynchronous Rabi excitation cycles among the qubits that form a quasi-lattice. We find that such inhomogeneous coupling benefits the formation of multi-photon resonances between the single-mode cavity field and the quasi-lattice. The multi-photon resonances lead, in turn, to the simultaneous generation of inequivalent GHZ and W types of mu…
One of the most scalable methods for continuous-variable quantum computing is to encode quantum information in the quantum optical frequency comb generated by an optical parametric oscillator (OPO). The scalability is limited by the quasiphasematching bandwidth and dispersion of the OPO. We study both factors in this article. The results show that 3200 qumodes are probably entangled in our recent demonstration of a record 60-qumode entanglement.
A scattering approach to entanglement in mesoscopic conductors with independent fermionic quasiparticles is discussed. We focus on conductors in the tunneling limit, where a redefinition of the quasiparticle vacuum transforms the wavefunction from a manybody product state of noninteracting particles to a state describing entangled two-particle excitations out of the new vacuum. The approach is illustrated with two examples (i) a normal-superconducting system, where the transformation is made between Bogoliubov-de Gennes quasiparticles and Cooper pairs, and (ii) a normal system, where the trans…
