The classical limit of wave quantum mechanics is analyzed. It is shown that the general requirements of continuity and finiteness to the solution $ψ(x)=Ae^{iϕ(x)}+ Be^{-iϕ(x)}$, where $ϕ(x)=\frac 1\hbar W(x)$ and $W(x)$ is the reduced classical action of the physical system, result in the asymptote of the exact solution and general quantization condition for $W(x)$, which yields the exact eigenvalues of the system.
The Quantum Wave Packet and the Feynman De Broglie Bohm Propagator of the Linearized Sussmann Hasse Albrecht Kostin Nassar Equation along a Classical Trajetory
Quantum computing is an emerging field of science which will eventually lead us to new and powerful logic devices with capabilities far beyond the limits of current transistor-based technology. There are certain types of problems which quantum computers can solve fundamentally faster than the tradition digital computers. There are quantum algorithms which require both superposition and entanglement (e.g. Shor algorithm). But neither the Grover algorithm nor the very first quantum algorithm due to Deutsch and Jozsa need entanglement. Is it possible to utilize classical wave superposition to spe…
Optimal wavelength assignment in dense-wavelength-division-multiplexing (DWDM) systems that integrate both quantum and classical channels is studied. In such systems, weak quantum key distribution (QKD) signals travel alongside intense classical signals on the same fiber, where the former can be masked by the background noise induced by the latter. Here, we investigate how optimal wavelength assignment can mitigate this problem. We consider different DWDM structures and various sources of crosstalk and propose several near-optimal wavelength assignment methods that maximize the total secret ke…
It is well known that in classical optics, the visibility of interference, in a two-beam light interference, is related to the optical coherence of the two beams. A wave-particle duality relation can be derived using this mutual coherence. The issue of wave-particle duality in classical optics is analyzed here, in the more general context of multipath interference. New definitions of interference visibility and path distinguishability have been introduced, which lead to a duality relation for multipath interference. The visibility is shown to be related to a new multi-point optical coherence f…
Unbound wave packets propagating to macroscopic space and time coordinates become proportional to their (Fourier transform) momentum distribution at earlier times whereby the asymptotic coordinates and the initial momenta are connected everywhere by appropriate classical trajectories. This asymptotic imaging theorem is relevant to every quantum reaction involving macroscopic extraction and detection of fragments emerging from a microscopic volume. It justifies the usual assumption of classical particle motion used in the design of particle detectors. We illustrate this quantum to semiclassical…
It is shown that it is possible to construct the quantum wave functions for non-separable but integrable two-dimensional Hamiltonian systems, by solving suitable Dirichlet boundary values problems inside and outside the regions spanned by particular families of classical trajectories, in one-to-one correspondence with the quantum state. The method is applied both to the Schrodinger equation, and to the quantum Hamilton-Jacobi equation. The boundary values are obtained by integrating the one-dim equations on the caustics arcs enveloping the classical trajectories. This approach gives the same r…
Beyond Geometrical Optics and Bohmian Physics: A New Exact and Deterministic Hamiltonian Approach to Wave-Like Features in Classical and Quantum Physics
Creating non-classical states of light from simple quantum systems together with classical resources is a challenging problem. We show how chiral emitters under a coherent drive can generate non-classical photon states. For our analysis, we select a specific temporal mode in the transmitted light field, resulting in a coupled master equation for the relevant mode and the chiral emitters. We characterise the mode's state by its Wigner function and show that the emission from the system predominantly produces mixtures of few-photon-added coherent states. We argue that these non-classical states …
We study how the classical Hamilton's principal and characteristic functions are generated from the solutions of the quantum Hamilton-Jacobi equation. While in the classically forbidden regions these quantum quantities directly tend to the classical ones, this is not the case in the allowed regions. There, the limit is reached only if the quantum fluctuations are eliminated by means of coarse-graining averages. Analogously, the classical Hamilton-Jacobi scheme bringing to the motion's equations arises from a similar formal quantum procedure.
Description of diffraction grating experiments for photons and electrons in Feynman's space-time formulation of quantum mechanics: The quantum origins of classical wave theories of light and massive particles
Space-time wave packets are propagation-invariant pulsed beams that travel in free space without diffraction or dispersion by virtue of tight correlations introduced into their spatio-temporal spectrum. Such correlations constitute an embodiment of classical entanglement between continuous degrees of freedom. Using a measure of classical entanglement based on the Schmidt number of the field, we demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that the degree of classical entanglement determines the diffraction-free propagation distance of ST wave packets. Reduction in the degree of classical entan…
The Classical-to-Quantum Transition with Broadband Four-Wave Mixing
A gauge-invariant wave equation for the dynamics of hybrid quantum-classical systems is formulated by combining the variational setting of Lagrangian paths in continuum theories with Koopman wavefunctions in classical mechanics. We identify gauge transformations with unobservable phase factors in the classical phase-space and we introduce gauge invariance in the variational principle underlying a hybrid wave equation previously proposed by the authors. While the original construction ensures a positive-definite quantum density matrix, the present model also guarantees the same property for the…
Detection of low-reflectivity objects can be enriched via the so-called quantum illumination procedure. In order that this quantum procedure outperforms classical detection protocols, entangled states of microwave radiation are initially required. In this paper, we discuss the role of Josephson Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifiers (JTWPAs), based on circuit-QED components, as suitable sources of a two-mode squeezed vacuum state, a special signal-idler entangled state. The obtained wide bandwidth makes the JTWPA an ideal candidate for generating quantum radiation in quantum metrology and inform…
