We show that the Painleve equations P3-P5 can be derived (in a unified way) from a periodic sequence of Darboux transformations for a Schrodinger problem with quadratic eigenvalue dependency. The general problem naturally divides into three different branches, each described by an infinite chain of equations. The Painleve equations are obtained by closing the chain periodically at the lowest nontrivial level(s). The chains provide ``symmetric forms'' for the Painleve equations, from which Hirota bilinear forms and Lax pairs are derived. In this paper (Part 1) we analyze in detail the cases P3-P5, while P6 will be studied in Part 2.
We present a class of three-dimensional integrable structures associated with the Darboux-Egoroff metric and classical Euler equations of free rotations of a rigid body. They are obtained as canonical structures of rational Landau-Ginzburg potentials and provide solutions to the Painleve VI equation.
In this paper, I construct the Darboux transformations for the non-commutative Toda solutions at $ n=1 $ with the help of linear systems whose compatibility condition yields zero curvature representation of associated systems of non-linear differential equations. I also derive the quasideterminant solutions of the non-commutative Painlevé II equation by taking the Toda solutions at $ n=1 $ as a seed solution in its Darboux transformations. Further by iteration, I generalize the Darboux transformations of the seed solutions to $ N$-th form. At the end I describe the zero curvature representatio…
Under the Flaschka-Newell Lax pair, the Darboux transformation for the Painlevé-II equation is constructed by the limiting technique. With the aid of the Darboux transformation, the rational solutions are represented by the Gram determinant, and then we give the large $y$ asymptotics of the determinant and the rational solutions. Finally, the solution of the corresponding Riemann-Hilbert problem is obtained from the Darboux matrices.
Invariant submanifolds of the so-called Darboux-KP chain are investigated. It is shown that restriction of dynamics on some class of invariant submanifolds yields the extension of the discrete KP hierarchy, while the intersections leads to Lax pairs for a broad class of differential-difference systems with finite number of fields. Some attention is given to investigation of self-similar reductions. It is shown that self-similar ansatzes lead to purely discrete equations with dependence on some number of parameters together with equations governing deformations with respect to these parameters.…
Darboux transformation is developed to systematically find variable separation solutions for the Nizhnik-Novikov-Veselov equation. Starting from a seed solution with some arbitrary functions, the once Darboux transformation yields the variable separable solutions which can be obtained from the truncated Painlevé analysis and the twice Darboux transformation leads to some new variable separable solutions which are the generalization of the known results obtained by using a guess ansatz to solve the generalized trilinear equation.
Symmetries and solutions of the Painleve IV equation are presented in an alternative framework which provides the bridge between the Hamiltonian formalism and the symmetric Painleve IV equation. This approach originates from a method developed in the setting of pseudo-differential Lax formalism describing AKNS hierarchy with the Darboux-Backlund and Miura transformations. In the Hamiltonian formalism the Darboux-Backlund transformations are introduced as maps between solutions of the Hamilton equations corresponding to two allowed values of Hamiltonian's discrete parameter. The action of the g…
Painleve analysis and the singular manifold method are the tools used in this paper to perform a complete study of an equation in 2+1 dimensions. This procedure has allowed us to obtain the Lax pair, Darboux transformation and tau functions in such a way that a plethora of different solutions with solitonic behavior can be constructed iteratively
We construct the Darboux-Backlund transformation for the sigma model describing static configurations of the 2-dimensional classical continuum Heisenberg chain. The transformation is characterized by a non-trivial normalization matrix depending on the background solution. In order to obtain the transformation we use a new, more general, spectral problem.
Differential-difference equation $\frac{d}{dx}t(n+1,x)=f(x,t(n,x),t(n+1,x),\frac{d}{dx}t(n,x))$ with unknown $t(n,x)$ depending on continuous and discrete variables $x$ and $n$ is studied. We call an equation of such kind Darboux integrable, if there exist two functions (called integrals) $F$ and $I$ of a finite number of dynamical variables such that $D_xF=0$ and $DI=I$, where $D_x$ is the operator of total differentiation with respect to $x$, and $D$ is the shift operator: $Dp(n)=p(n+1)$. It is proved that the integrals can be brought to some canonical form. A method of construction of an ex…
The singular manifold method from the Painleve analysis can be used to investigate many important integrable properties for the nonlinear partial differential equations. In this paper, the two-singular-manifold method is applied to the (2+1)-dimensional Gardner equation with two Painleve expansion branches to determine the Hirota bilinear form, Backlund transformation, Lax pairs and Darboux transformation. Based on the obtained Lax pairs, the binary Darboux transformation is constructed and the N N Grammian solution is also derived by performing the iterative algorithm Ntimes with symbolic comp…
We study differential-difference equation of the form $$ \frac{d}{dx}t(n+1,x)=f(t(n,x),t(n+1,x),\frac{d}{dx}t(n,x)) $$ with unknown $t(n,x)$ depending on continuous and discrete variables $x$ and $n$. Equation of such kind is called Darboux integrable, if there exist two functions $F$ and $I$ of a finite number of arguments $x$, $\{t(n\pm k,x)\}_{k=-\infty}^\infty$, ${\frac{d^k}{dx^k}t(n,x)}_{k=1}^\infty$, such that $D_xF=0$ and $DI=I$, where $D_x$ is the operator of total differentiation with respect to $x$, and $D$ is the shift operator: $Dp(n)=p(n+1)$. Reformulation of Darboux integrability…
We study differential-difference equation of the form $t_{x}(n+1)=f(t(n),t(n+1),t_x(n))$ with unknown $t=t(n,x)$ depending on $x$, $n$. The equation is called Darboux integrable, if there exist functions $F$ (called an $x$-integral) and $I$ (called an $n$-integral), both of a finite number of variables $x$, $t(n)$, $t(n\pm 1)$, $t(n\pm 2)$, $...$, $t_x(n)$, $t_{xx}(n)$, $...$, such that $D_xF=0$ and $DI=I$, where $D_x$ is the operator of total differentiation with respect to $x$, and $D$ is the shift operator: $Dp(n)=p(n+1)$. The Darboux integrability property is reformulated in terms of chara…
The problem of construction of integrable boundary conditions for the discrete Toda chain is considered. The restricted chains for properly chosen closure conditions are reduced to the well known discrete Painlevé equations $dP_{III}$, $dP_{V}$, $dP_{VI}$. Lax representations for these discrete Painlevé equations are found.
A chain of one-dimensional Schrödinger operators connected by successive Darboux transformations is called the ``Darboux chain'' or ``dressing chain''. The periodic dressing chain with period $N$ has a control parameter $α$. If $α\not= 0$, the $N$-periodic dressing chain may be thought of as a generalization of the fourth or fifth (depending on the parity of $N$) Painlevé equations . The $N$-periodic dressing chain has two different Lax representations due to Adler and to Noumi and Yamada. Adler's $2 \times 2$ Lax pair can be used to construct a transition matrix around the periodic lattice. O…
We propose a method for construction of Darboux transformations, which is a new development of the dressing method for Lax operators invariant under a reduction group. We apply the method to the vector sine-Gordon equation and derive its Bäcklund transformations. We show that there is a new Lax operator canonically associated with our Darboux transformation resulting an evolutionary differential-difference system on a sphere. The latter is a generalised symmetry for the chain of Bäcklund transformations. Using the re-factorisation approach and the Bianchi permutability of the Darboux transform…
A Miura chain is a (closed) sequence of differential (or difference) equations that are related by Miura or Bäcklund transformations. We describe such a chain for the sixth Painlevé equation (\pvi), containing, apart from \pvi itself, a Schwarzian version as well as a second-order second-degree ordinary differential equation (ODE). As a byproduct we derive an auto-Bäcklund transformation, relating two copies of \pvi with different parameters. We also establish the analogous ordinary difference equations in the discrete counterpart of the chain. Such difference equations govern iterations of so…
The iterations are studied of the Darboux transformation for the generalized Schroedinger operator. The applications to the Dym and Camassa-Holm equations are considered.
Nonlinear semi-discrete equations of the form t_x(n+1)=f(t(n), t(n+1), t_x(n)) are studied. An adequate algebraic formulation of the Darboux integrability is discussed and the attempt to adopt this notion to the classification of Darboux integrable chains has been undertaken.
We study discrete isospectral symmetries for the classical acoustic spectral problem in spatial dimensions one and two, by developing a Darboux (Moutard) transformation formalism for this problem. The procedure follows the steps, similar to those for the Schrödinger operator. However, there is no one-to-one correspondence between the two problems. The technique developed enables one to construct new families of integrable potentials for the acoustic problem, in addition to those already known. The acoustic problem produces a non-linear Harry Dym PDE. Using the technique, we reproduce a pair of…
Based on the notion of Darboux-KP chain hierarchy and its invariant submanifolds we construct some class of constraints compatible with integrable lattices. Some simple examples are given.
We construct rational extensions of the Darboux-Pöschl-Teller and isotonic potentials via two-step confluent Darboux transformations. The former are strictly isospectral to the initial potential, whereas the latter are only quasi-isospectral. Both are associated to new families of orthogonal polynomials, which, in the first case, depend on a continuous parameter. We also prove that these extended potentials possess an enlarged shape invariance property.
In the article the problem of the integrable classification of nonlinear lattices depending on one discrete and two continuous variables is studied. By integrability we mean the presence of reductions of a chain to a system of hyperbolic equations of arbitrarily high order integrable in the Darboux sense. Darboux integrablity admits a remarkable algebraic interpretation: the Lie-Rinehart algebras related to both characteristic directions corresponding to the reduced system of the hyperbolic equations have to be of finite dimension. A classification algorithm based on the properties of the char…
The dressing chain is derived by applying Darboux transformations to the spectral problem of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation. It is also an auto-Bäcklund transformation for the modified KdV equation. We show that by applying Darboux transformations to the spectral problem of the dressing chain one obtains the lattice KdV equation as the dressing chain of the dressing chain and, that the lattice KdV equation also arises as an auto-Bäcklund transformation for a modified dressing chain. In analogy to the results obtained for the dressing chain (Veselov and Shabat proved complete integrabilit…
Bilinear equation is an important property for integrable nonlinear evolution equation. Many famous research objects in mathematical physics, such as Gromov-Witten invariants, can be described in terms of bilinear equations to show their connections with the integrable systems. Here in this paper, we mainly discuss the bilinear equations of the transformed tau functions under the successive applications of the Darboux transformations for the KP hierarchy, the modified KP hierarchy (Kupershmidt-Kiso version) and the BKP hierarchy, by the method of the Boson-Fermion correspondence. The Darboux t…
We develop a systematic approach to deriving rational solutions and obtaining classification of their parameters for dressing chains of even N periodicity or equivalently $A^{(1)}_{N-1}$ invariant Painlevé equations. This construction identifies rational solutions with points on orbits of fundamental shift operators acting on first-order polynomial solutions derived for dressing chains of even periodicity. We also obtain conditions for the existence of special function solutions that occur for a special class of first-order polynomial solutions. For the special case of the N=4 dressing chain e…
We show that the Painlev{é} VI equation has an equivalent form of the non-autonomous Zhukovsky-Volterra gyrostat. This system is a generalization of the Euler top in $C^3$ and include the additional constant gyrostat momentum. The quantization of its autonomous version is achieved by the reflection equation. The corresponding quadratic algebra generalizes the Sklyanin algebra. As by product we define integrable XYZ spin chain on a finite lattice with new boundary conditions.
It is shown that the nonlinear Ermakov-Milne-Pinney equation $ρ^{\prime\prime}+v(x)ρ=a/ρ^3$ obeys the property of covariance under a class of transformations of its coefficient function. This property is derived by using supersymmetric, or Darboux, transformations. The general solution of the transformed equation is expressed in terms of the solution of the original one. Both iterations of these transformations and irreducible transformations of second order in derivatives are considered to obtain the chain of mutually related Ermakov-Milne-Pinney equations. The behaviour of the Lewis invarian…
In paper by I.T. Habibullin and our joint paper the algorithm for classification of integrable equations with three independent variables was proposed. This method is based on the requirement of the existence of an infinite set of Darboux integrable reductions and on the notion of the characteristic Lie-Rinehart algebras. The method was applied for the classification of integrable cases of different subclasses of equations $u_{n,xy} = f(u_{n+1},u_n,u_{n-1}, u_{n,x},u_{n,y})$ of special forms. Under this approach the novel integrable chain was obtained. In present paper we construct Lax pair fo…
Integrable discretisations for a class of coupled (super) nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) type of equations are presented. The class corresponds to a Lax operator with entries in a Grassmann algebra. Elementary Darboux transformations are constructed. As a result, Grassmann generalisations of the Toda lattice and the NLS dressing chain are obtained. The compatibility (Bianchi commutativity) of these Darboux transformations leads to integrable Grassmann generalisations of the difference Toda and NLS equations. The resulting systems will have discrete Lax representations provided by the set of two c…
In this paper the relation between the cluster integrable systems and $q$-difference equations is extended beyond the Painlevé case. We consider the class of hyperelliptic curves when the Newton polygons contain only four boundary points. The corresponding cluster integrable Toda systems are presented, and their discrete automorphisms are identified with certain reductions of the Hirota difference equation. We also construct non-autonomous versions of these equations and find that their solutions are expressed in terms of 5d Nekrasov functions with the Chern-Simons contributions, while in the …
We generalize the Toda lattice (or Toda chain) equation to the square lattice; i.e., we construct an integrable nonlinear equation, for a scalar field taking values on the square lattice and depending on a continuous (time) variable, characterized by an exponential law of interaction in both discrete directions of the square lattice. We construct the Darboux-Backlund transformations for such lattice, and the corresponding formulas describing their superposition. We finally use these Darboux-Backlund transformations to generate examples of explicit solutions of exponential and rational type. Th…
The Darboux transformation applied recurrently on a Schroedinger operator generates what is called a {\em dressing chain}, or from a different point of view, a set of supersymmetric shape invariant potentials. The finite-gap potential theory is a special case of the chain. For the finite-gap case, the equations of the chain can be expressed as a time evolution of a Hamiltonian system. We apply Sklyanin's method of separation of variables to the chain. We show that the classical equation of the separation of variables is the Baxter T-Q relation after quantization.
Three inequivalent real forms of the complex N=4 supersymmetric Toda chain hierarchy (Nucl. Phys. B558 (1999) 545, solv-int/9907004) in the real N=2 superspace with one even and two odd real coordinates are presented. It is demonstrated that the first of them possesses a global N=4 supersymmetry, while the other two admit a twisted N=4 supersymmetry. A new superfield basis in which supersymmetry transformations are local is discussed and a manifest N=4 supersymmetric representation of the N=4 Toda chain in terms of a chiral and an anti-chiral N=4 superfield is constructed. Its relation to the …
We review some of the fundamental notions associated to the theory of solitons. More precisely, we focus on the issue of conservation laws via the existence of the Lax pair and also on methods that provide solutions to partial or ordinary differential equations that are associated to discrete or continuous integrable systems. The Riccati equation associated to a given continuous integrable system is also solved and hence suitable conserved quantities are derived. The notion of the Darboux-Backlund transformation is introduced and employed in order to obtain soliton solutions for specific examp…
