In this note we study inclusions of second quantization algebras, namely inclusions of von Neumann algebras on the Fock space of a separable complex Hilbert space H, generated by the Weyl unitaries with test functions in closed, real linear subspaces of H. We show that the class of irreducible inclusions of standard second quantization algebras is non empty, and that they are depth two inclusions, namely the third relative commutant of the Jones' tower is a factor. When the smaller vector space has codimension n into the bigger, we prove that the corresponding inclusion of second quantization algebras is given by a cross product with R^n. This shows in particular that the inlcusions studied in hep-th/9703129, namely the inclusion of the observable algebra corresponding to a bounded interval for the (n+p)-th derivative of the current algebra on the real line into the observable algebra for the same interval and the n-th derivative theory is given by a cross product with R^p. On the contrary, when the codimension is infinite, we show that the inclusion may be non regular (cf. M. Enock, R. Nest, J. Funct. Anal. 137 (1996), 466-543), hence do not correspond to a cross product with a locally compact group.
We shall introduce the notion of the Picard group for an inclusion of $C^*$-algebras. We shall also study its basic properties and the relation between the Picard group for an inclusion of $C^*$-algebras and the ordinary Picard group. Furthermore, we shall give some examples of the Picard groups for unital inclusions of unital $C^*$-algebras.
We consider two saturated Fell bundles over a countable discrete group, whose unit fibers are $σ$-unital $C^*$-algebras. Then by taking the reduced cross-sectional $C^*$-algebras, we get two inclusions of $C^*$-algebras. We suppose that they are strongly Morita equivalent as inclusions of $C^*$-algebras. Also, we suppose that one of the inclusions of $C^*$-algebras is irreducible, that is, the relative commutant of one of the unit fiber algebras, which is a $σ$-unital $C^*$-algebra, in the multiplier $C^*$-algebra of the reduced cross-sectional $C^*$-algebra is trivial. We show that the two sa…
The literature contains interesting examples of inclusions of simple C$^*$-algebras with the property that all intermediate C$^*$-algebras likewise are simple. In this article we take up a systematic study of such inclusions, which we refer to as being C$^*$-irreducible by the analogy that all intermediate von Neumann algebras of an inclusion of factors are again factors precisely when the given inclusion is irreducible. We give an intrinsic characterization of when an inclusion of C$^*$-algebras is C$^*$-irreducible, and use this to revisit known and exhibit new C$^*$-irreducible inclusions a…
Let $A$ be a unital $C^*$-algebra and $X$ an invulutive $A-A$-equivalence bimodule. Let $A\subset C_X$ be the unital inclusion of unital $C^*$-algebras induced by $X$. We suppose that $A' \cap C_X =\mathbf{C} 1$. We shall compute the Picard group of the unital inclusion $A\subset C_X$.
We consider two twisted actions of a countable discrete group on $σ$-unital $C^*$-algebras. Then by taking the reduced crossed products, we get two inclusions of $C^*$-algebras. We suppose that they are strongly Morita equivalent as inclusions of $C^*$-algebras. Also, we suppose that one of the inclusions is irreducible, that is, the relative commutant of one of the $σ$-unital $C^*$-algebra in the multiplier $C^*$-algebra of the reduced twisted crossed product is trivial. We show that the two actions are then strongly Morita equivalent up to some automorphism of the group.
We shall introduce the notions of the strong Morita equivalence for unital inclusions of unital $C^*$-algebras and conditional expectations from an equivalence bimodule onto its closed subspace with respect to conditional expectations from unital $C^*$-algebras onto their unital $C^*$-subalgebras. Also, we shall study their basic properties.
We examine inclusions of $C^*$-algebras of the form $A^H \subseteq A \rtimes_{r} G$, where $G$ and $H$ are groups acting on a unital simple $C^*$-algebra $A$ by outer automorphisms and $H$ is finite. It follows from a theorem of Izumi that $A^H \subseteq A$ is $C^*$-irreducible, in the sense that all intermediate $C^*$-algebras are simple. We show that $A^H \subseteq A \rtimes_{r} G$ is $C^*$-irreducible for all $G$ and $H$ as above if and only if $G$ and $H$ have trivial intersection in the outer automorphisms of $A$, and we give a Galois type classification of all intermediate $C^*$-algebras…
Let $A$ and $B$ be unital $C^*$-algebras and let $H$ be a finite dimensional $C^*$-Hopf algebra. Let $H^0$ be its dual $C^*$-Hopf algebra. Let $(ρ, u)$ and $(σ, v)$ be twisted coactions of $H^0$ on $A$ and $B$, respectively. In this paper, we shall show the following theorem: We suppose that the unital inclusions $A\subset A\rtimes_{ρ, u}H$ and $B\subset B\rtimes_{σ, v}H$ are strongly Morita equivalent. If $A'\cap (A\rtimes_{ρ, u}H)=\BC1$, then there is a $C^*$-Hopf algebra automorphism $λ^0$ of $H^0$ such that the twisted coaction $(ρ, u)$ is strongly Morita equivalent to the twisted coaction…
We give a formula for the stable rank of inclusions of unital Banach algebras in the sense of finite Watatani index. As an application we show that the stable rank of $\ell^1$-algebras of Disk algebras by any action of finite groups is 2.
We define the local multiplier module of a Hilbert module in analogy to the local multiplier algebra for $C^*$-algebras. We use properties of the local multiplier module to lift non-closed actions on $C^*$-algebras by Hilbert bimodules to closed actions on local multiplier algebras, and descend known results on such closed actions down to their unclosed counterparts. We define aperiodic dynamical inclusions and characterise them as crossed products by inverse semigroup actions. We describe the slice structure for such inclusions and show that all slices arise as linear combinations of slices a…
We consider compact group actions on C*- and W*- algebras. We prove results that relate the duality property of the action (as defined in the Introduction) with other relevant properties of the system such as the relative commutant of the fixed point algebras being trivial (called the irreducibility of the inclusion) and also to the Galois correspondence between invariant C*-subalgebras containing the fixed point algebra and the class of closed normal subgroups of the compact group.
In this note we define one more way of quantization of classical systems. The quantization we consider is an analogue of classical Jordan-Schwinger (J.-S.) map which has been known and used for a long time by physicists. The difference, comparing to J.-S. map, is that we use generators of Cuntz algebra $\mathcal{O}_{\infty}$ (i.e. countable family of mutually orthogonal partial isometries of separable Hilbert space) as a "building blocks" instead of creation-annihilation operators. The resulting scheme satisfies properties similar to Van Hove prequantization i.e. exact conservation of Lie brac…
The notion of index for inclusions of von Neumann algebras goes back to a seminal work of Jones on subfactors of type ${I\!I}_1$. In the absence of a trace, one can still define the index of a conditional expectation associated to a subfactor and look for expectations that minimize the index. This value is called the minimal index of the subfactor. We report on our analysis, contained in [GL19], of the minimal index for inclusions of arbitrary von Neumann algebras (not necessarily finite, nor factorial) with finite-dimensional centers. Our results generalize some aspects of the Jones index for…
In this paper, we introduce the notion of multiplier of a Hilbert algebra. The space of bounded multipliers is a semifinite von Neumann algebra isomorphic to the left von Neumann algebra of the Hilbert algebra, as expected. However, in the unbounded setting, the space of multipliers has the structure of a *-algebra with nice properties concerning commutant and affiliation: it is a pre-GW*-algebra. And this correspondence between Hilbert algebras and its multipliers is functorial. Then, we can endow the Hilbert algebra with a nice topology constructed from unbounded multipliers. As we can see f…
