Notes of series of lectures held during the 1997 workshop ``Harmonic analysis on homogeneous spaces and representation of Lie groups'', RIMS, Kyoto, Japan
These are the lecture notes of a series of lectures on Dunkl operators. We discuss the underlying algebraic structure of the degenerate double affine Hecke algebra, intertwiners and shift operators. We apply this to Macdonald theory. We also discuss the ``compact'' and ``noncompact'' spectral decomposition of these operators. In the attractive noncompact situation we classify the discrete eigenfunctions and compute their square norms.
These lecture notes are intended as an introduction to the theory of rational Dunkl operators and the associated special functions, with an emphasis on positivity and asymptotics. We start with an outline of the general concepts: Dunkl operators, the intertwining operator, the Dunkl kernel and the Dunkl transform. We point out the connection with integrable particle systems of Calogero-Moser-Sutherland type, and discuss some systems of orthogonal polynomials associated with them. A major part is devoted to positivity results for the intertwining operator and the Dunkl kernel, the Dunkl-type he…
We attach elliptic Dunkl operators to an abelian variety with a finite group action. This generalizes elliptic Dunkl operators for Weyl groups, defined by Buchstaber, Felder, and Veselov in 1994. We show that these operators commute, and use them to define representations from category O of elliptic Cherednik algebras. We also consider the monodromy representations of differential equations defined by elliptic Dunkl operators, and show that they yield finite dimensional rrepresentations of generalized double affine Hecke algebras.
These are lecture notes of a minicourse given by the first author at the Summer School on Quantization at the University of Notre Dame in June 2011. The notes were written up and expanded by the second author who took the liberty of adding a few interesting results and proofs from the literature. In a broad sense, our goal is to give an introduction to representation theory of rational Cherednik algebras and some of its recent applications. More specifically, we focus on the two concepts featuring in the title (Dunkl operators and quasi-invariants) and explain the relation between them. The co…
In this note, a new proof for the positivity of Dunkl's intertwining operator in the crystallographic case is given. It is based on an asymptotic relationship between the Opdam-Cherednik kernel and the Dunkl kernel as recently observed by M. de Jeu, and on positivity results of S. Sahi for the Heckman-Opdam polynomials and their non-symmetric counterparts.
For a finite reflection subgroup $G\leq O(n+1,1,\mR)$ of the conformal group of the sphere with standard conformal structure $(S^n,[g_0])$, we geometrically derive differential-difference Dunkl version of the series of conformally invariant differential operators with symbols given by powers of Laplace operator. The construction can be regarded as a deformation of the Fefferman-Graham ambient metric construction of GJMS operators.
Using Dunkl operators, we introduce a continuous family of canonical invariants of finite reflection groups. We verify that the elementary canonical invariants of the symmetric group are deformations of the elementary symmetric polynomials. We also compute the canonical invariants for all dihedral groups as certain hypergeometric functions.
Dunkl operators for complex reflection groups are defined in this paper. These commuting operators give rise to a parametrized family of deformations of the polynomial De Rham complex. This leads to the study of the polynomial ring as a module over the "rational Cherednik algebra", and a natural contravariant form on this module. In the case of the imprimitive complex reflection groups G(m,p,N), the set of singular parameters in the parameter family of these structures is described explicitly, using the theory of nonsymmetric Jack polynomials.
We define a family of Dirac operators for the Dunkl angular momentum algebra depending on certain central elements of the group algebra of the Pin cover of the Weyl group inherent to the rational Cherednik algebra. We prove an analogue of Vogan's conjecture for this family of operators and use this to show that the Dirac cohomology, when non-zero, determines the central character of representations of the angular momentum algebra. Furthermore, interpreting this algebra in the framework of (deformed) Howe dualities, we show that the natural Dirac element we define yields, up to scalars, a squar…
The Dunkl--Dirac operator is a deformation of the Dirac operator by means of Dunkl derivatives. We investigate the symmetry algebra generated by the elements supercommuting with the Dunkl--Dirac operator and its dual symbol. This symmetry algebra is realised inside the tensor product of a Clifford algebra and a rational Cherednik algebra associated with a reflection group or root system. For reducible root systems of rank three, we determine all the irreducible finite-dimensional representations and conditions for unitarity. Polynomial solutions of the Dunkl--Dirac equation are given as a real…
We initiate the study of an algebra of symmetries for the 3D Dirac-Dunkl operator associated with the Weyl group of the exceptional root system $G_2$. For this symmetry algebra, we give both an abstract definition and an explicit realisation. We then construct ladder operators, using an intermediate result we prove for the Dirac-Dunkl symmetry algebra associated with arbitrary finite reflection group acting on a three-dimensional space.
In this paper, a family of radial deformations of the realization of the Lie superalgebra osp(1|2) in the theory of Dunkl operators is obtained. This leads to a Dirac operator depending on 3 parameters. Several function theoretical aspects of this operator are studied, such as the associated measure, the related Laguerre polynomials and the related Fourier transform. For special values of the parameters, it is possible to construct the kernel of the Fourier transform explicitly, as well as the related intertwining operator.
We introduce braided Dunkl operators that are acting on a q-polynomial algebra and q-commute. Generalizing the approach of Etingof and Ginzburg, we explain the q-commutation phenomenon by constructing braided Cherednik algebras for which the above operators form a representation. We classify all braided Cherednik algebras using the theory of braided doubles developed in our previous paper. Besides ordinary rational Cherednik algebras, our classification gives new algebras attached to an infinite family of subgroups of even elements in complex reflection groups, so that the corresponding braide…

Let $V_k$ denote Dunkl's intertwining operator associated with some root system $R$ and multiplicity function $k$. For two multiplicities $k, k^\prime$ on $R$, we study the operator $V_{k^\prime,k} = V_{k^\prime}\circ V_k^{-1}$, which intertwines the Dunkl operators for multiplicity $k$ with those for multiplicity $k^\prime.$ While it is well-known that the operator $V_k$ is positive for nonnegative $k$, it has been a long-standing conjecture that its generalizations $V_{k^\prime,k}$ are also positive if $k^\prime \geq k \geq 0,$ which is known to be true in rank one. In this paper, we disprov…
Symmetric functions appear in many areas of mathematics and physics, including enumerative combinatorics, the representation theory of symmetric groups, statistical mechanics, and the quantum statistics of ideal gases. In the commutative (or "even") case of these symmetric functions, Kostant and Kumar introduced a nilHecke algebra that categorifies the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. This categorification helps to better understand Khovanov homology, which has important applications in studying knot polynomials and gauge theory. Recently, Ellis and Khovanov initiated the program of "oddi…
We continue a program generalizing classical results from the analysis on symmetric cones to the Dunkl setting for root systems of type A. In particular, we prove a Dunkl-Laplace transform identity for Heckman-Opdam hypergeometric functions of type A and more generally, for the associated Cherednik kernel. This is achieved by analytic continuation from a Laplace transform identity for non-symmetric Jack polynomials which was stated, for the symmetric case, as a key conjecture in an unpublished manuscript of Macdonald (2013). Our proof for the Jack polynomials is based on Dunkl operator techniq…
We construct a two-parameter family of actions ω_{k,a} of the Lie algebra sl(2,R) by differential-difference operators on R^N \setminus {0}. Here, k is a multiplicity-function for the Dunkl operators, and a>0 arises from the interpolation of the Weil representation of Mp(N,R) and the minimal unitary representation of O(N+1,2) keeping smaller symmetries. We prove that this action ω_{k,a} lifts to a unitary representation of the universal covering of SL(2,R), and can even be extended to a holomorphic semigroup Ω_{k,a}. In the k\equiv 0 case, our semigroup generalizes the Hermite semigroup studie…
In this paper, we pursue the investigations started in \cite{Mas-You} where the authors provide a construction of the Dunkl intertwining operator for a large subset of the set of regular multiplicity values. More precisely, we make concrete the action of this operator on homogeneous polynomials when the root system is of dihedral type and under a mild assumption on the multiplicity function. In particular, we obtain a formula for the corresponding Dunkl kernel and another representation of the generalized Bessel function already derived in \cite{Demni0}. When the multiplicity function is every…
We consider the symmetry algebra generated by the total angular momentum operators, appearing as constants of motion of the $\mathrm{S}_3$ Dunkl Dirac equation. The latter is a deformation of the Dirac equation by means of Dunkl operators, in our case associated to the root system $A_2$, with corresponding Weyl group $\mathrm{S}_3$, the symmetric group on three elements. The explicit form of the symmetry algebra in this case is a one-parameter deformation of the classical total angular momentum algebra $\mathfrak{so}(3)$, incorporating elements of $\mathrm{S}_3$. This was obtained using recent…
