We describe a construction of wavelets (coherent states) in Banach spaces generated by ``admissible'' group representations. Our main targets are applications in pure mathematics while connections with quantum mechanics are mentioned. As an example we consider operator valued Segal-Bargmann type spaces and the Weyl functional calculus.
Keywords: Wavelets, coherent states, Banach spaces, group representations, covariant, contravariant (Wick) symbols, Heisenberg group, Segal-Bargmann spaces, Weyl functional calculus (quantization), second quantization, bosonic field.
A wavelet basis is a basis for the $K$-Banach space $C(R, K)$ of continuous functions from a complete discrete valuation ring $R$ whose residue field is finite to its quotient field $K$. In this paper, we prove a characterization of $n$-times continuously differentiable functions from $R$ to $K$ by the coefficients with respect to the wavelet basis and give an orthonormal basis for $K$-Banach space $C^n(R, K)$ of $n$-times continuously differentiable functions.
We introduce the notion of a continuous Schauder frame for a Banach space. This is both a generalization of continuous frames and coherent states for Hilbert spaces and a generalization of unconditional Schauder frames for Banach spaces. As a natural example, we prove that any wavelet for $L_p(\R)$ with $1<p<\infty$ generates a continuous wavelet Schauder frame. Furthermore, we generalize the properties shrinking and boundedly complete to the continuous Schauder frame setting, and prove that many of the fundamental James theorems still hold in this general context.
We study several Tauberian properties of regularizing transforms of tempered distributions with values in Banach spaces, that is, transforms of the form $M^{\mathbf{f}}_ϕ(x,y)=(\mathbf{f}\astϕ_{y})(x)$, where the kernel $ϕ$ is a test function and $ϕ_{y}(\cdot)=y^{-n}ϕ(\cdot/y)$. If the zeroth moment of $ϕ$ vanishes, it is a wavelet type transform; otherwise, we say it is a non-wavelet type transform. The first aim of this work is to show that the scaling (weak) asymptotic properties of distributions are \emph{completely} determined by boundary asymptotics of the regularizing transform plus nat…
This paper is concerned with the characterization of $α$-modulation spaces by Banach frames, i.e., stable and redundant non-orthogonal expansions, constituted of functions obtained by a suitable combination of translation, modulation and dilation of a mother atom. In particular, the parameter $α\in [0,1]$ governs the dependence of the dilation factor on the frequency. The result is achieved by exploiting intrinsic properties of localization of such frames. The well-known Gabor and wavelet frames arise as special cases ($α= 0$) and limiting case ($ α\to 1)$, to characterize respectively modulat…
This is (raw) lecture notes of the course read on 6th European intensive course on Complex Analysis (Coimbra, Portugal) in 2000. Our purpose is to describe a general framework for generalizations of the complex analysis. As a consequence a classification scheme for different generalizations is obtained. The framework is based on wavelets (coherent states) in Banach spaces generated by ``admissible'' group representations. Reduced wavelet transform allows naturally describe in abstract term main objects of an analytical function theory: the Cauchy integral formula, the Hardy and Bergman spaces,…
The paper develops theory of covariant transform, which is inspired by the wavelet construction. It was observed that many interesting types of wavelets (or coherent states) arise from group representations which are not square integrable or vacuum vectors which are not admissible. Covariant transform extends an applicability of the popular wavelets construction to classic examples like the Hardy space H_2, Banach spaces, covariant functional calculus and many others. Keywords: Wavelets, coherent states, group representations, Hardy space, Littlewood-Paley operator, functional calculus, Berezi…
In this paper we develop a stochastic integration theory for processes with values in a quasi-Banach space. The integrator is a cylindrical Brownian motion. The main results give sufficient conditions for stochastic integrability. They are natural extensions of known results in the Banach space setting. We apply our main results to the stochastic heat equation where the forcing terms are assumed to have Besov regularity in the space variable with integrability exponent $p\in (0,1]$. The latter is natural to consider for its potential application to adaptive wavelet methods for stochastic parti…
We show that if the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on a reflexive Banach function space $X(\mathbb{R})$ and on its associate space $X'(\mathbb{R})$, then the space $X(\mathbb{R})$ has an unconditional wavelet basis. As a consequence of the existence of a Schauder basis in $X(\mathbb{R})$, we prove that the ideal of compact operators $\mathcal{K}(X(\mathbb{R}))$ on the space $X(\mathbb{R})$ is contained in the Banach algebra generated by all operators of multiplication $aI$ by functions $a\in C(\dot{\mathbb{R}})$, where $\dot{\mathbb{R}}=\mathbb{R}\cup\{\infty\}$, and by all Fouri…
In this paper we propose a general coorbit space theory suitable to define coorbits of quasi-Banach spaces using an abstract continuous frame, indexed by a locally compact Hausdorff space, and an associated generalized voice transform. The proposed theory realizes a further step in the development of a universal abstract theory towards various function spaces and their atomic decompositions which has been initiated by Feichtinger and Gr{ö}chenig in the late 1980ies. We combine the recent approaches in Rauhut, Ullrich and Rauhut to identify, in particular, various inhomogeneous (quasi-Banach) s…
In this paper we present an abstract framework for construction of Banach spaces of distributions from group representations. This generalizes the theory of coorbit spaces initiated by H.G. Feichtinger and K. Gröchenig in the 1980's. Spaces that can be described by this new technique include the whole Banach-scale of Bergman spaces on the unit disc. For these Bergman spaces we show that atomic decompositions can be constructed through sampling. We further present a wavelet characterization of Besov spaces on the forward light cone.
We provide explicit criteria for wavelets to give rise to frames and atomic decompositions in ${\rm L}^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$, but also in more general Banach function spaces. We consider wavelet systems that arise by translating and dilating the mother wavelet, with the dilations taken from a suitable subgroup of ${\rm GL}(\mathbb{R}^d)$, the so-called {\em dilation group}.The paper provides a unified approach that is applicable to a wide range of dilation groups, thus giving rise to new atomic decompositions for homogeneous Besov spaces in arbitrary dimensions, but also for other function spaces s…
This paper studies Tikhonov regularization for finitely smoothing operators in Banach spaces when the penalization enforces too much smoothness in the sense that the penalty term is not finite at the true solution. In a Hilbert space setting, Natterer (1984) showed with the help of spectral theory that optimal rates can be achieved in this situation. ('Oversmoothing does not harm.') For oversmoothing variational regularization in Banach spaces only very recently progress has been achieved in several papers on different settings, all of which construct families of smooth approximations to the t…
In this paper we summarize and give examples of a generalization of the coorbit space theory initiated in the 1980's by H.G. Feichtinger and K.H. Gröchenig. Coorbit theory has been a powerful tool in characterizing Banach spaces of distributions with the use of integrable representations of locally compact groups. Examples are a wavelet characterization of the Besov spaces and a characterization of some Bergman spaces by the discrete series representation of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{R})$. We present examples of Banach spaces which could not be covered by the previous theory, and we also provide …
This article describes how the ideas promoted by the fundamental papers published by M. Frazier and B. Jawerth in the eighties have influenced subsequent developments related to the theory of atomic decompositions and Banach frames for function spaces such as the modulation spaces and Besov-Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. Both of these classes of spaces arise as special cases of two different, general constructions of function spaces: coorbit spaces and decomposition spaces. Coorbit spaces are defined by imposing certain decay conditions on the so-called voice transform of the function/distribution u…
In solving scientific, engineering or pure mathematical problems one is often faced with a need to approximate the function of a given class by the linear combination of a preferably small number of functions that are localised one way or another both in the time and frequency domain. Over the last seventy years or so a range of systems of thus localised functions have been developed to allow the decomposition and synthesis of functions of various classes. The most prominent examples of such systems are Gabor functions, wavelets, ridgelets, curvelets, shearlets and wave atoms. We recently intr…
We consider the coorbit theory associated to general continuous wavelet transforms arising from a square-integrable, irreducible quasi-regular representation of a semidirect product group $G = \mathbb{R}^d \rtimes H$. The existence of coorbit spaces for this very general setting has been recently established, together with concrete vanishing moment criteria for analyzing vectors and atoms that can be used in the coorbit scheme. These criteria depend on fairly technical assumptions on the dual action of the dilation group, and it is one of the chief purposes of this paper to considerably simpli…
We investigate the wavelet spaces $\mathcal{W}_{g}(\mathcal{H}_π)\subset L^{2}(G)$ arising from square integrable representations $π:G \to \mathcal{U}(\mathcal{H}_π)$ of a locally compact group $G$. We show that the wavelet spaces are rigid in the sense that non-trivial intersection between them imposes strong conditions. Moreover, we use this to derive consequences for wavelet transforms related to convexity and functions of positive type. Motivated by the reproducing kernel Hilbert space structure of wavelet spaces we examine an interpolation problem. In the setting of time-frequency analysi…
We prove three results on wavelets for the Hardy space H^2(\R). All wavelets constructed so far for H^2(\R) are MSF wavelets. We construct a family of H^2-wavelets which are not MSF. An equivalence relation on H^2-wavelets is introduced and it is shown that the corresponding equivalence classes are non-empty. Finally, we construct a family of H^2-wavelets with Fourier transform discontinuous at the origin.
We study embeddings between generalised Besov-Morrey spaces. Both sufficient and necessary conditions for the embeddings are proved. Embeddings of the Besov-Morrey spaces into the Lebesgue spaces are also considered. Our approach requires a wavelet characterisation of the spaces which we establish for the system of Daubechies wavelets.
In this paper we define a new class of continuous fractional wavelet transform (CFrWT) and study its properties in Hardy space and Morrey space. The theory developed generalize and complement some of already existing results.
We describe local and global properties of wavelet transforms of ultradifferentiable functions. The results are given in the form of continuity properties of the wavelet transform on Gelfand-Shilov type spaces and their duals. In particular, we introduce a new family of highly time-scale localized spaces on the upper half-space. We study the wavelet synthesis operator (the left-inverse of the wavelet transform) and obtain the resolution of identity (Calderón reproducing formula) in the context of ultradistributions.
The continuous wavelet transform has become a widely used tool in applied science during the last decade. In this article we discuss some generalizations coming from actions of closed subgroups of $\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{R})$ acting on $\mathbb{R}^n$. In particular, we propose a way to invert the wavelet transform in the case where the stabilizer of a generic point in $\mathbb{R}^n$ is not compact, but a symmetric subgroup, a case that has not previously been discussed in the literature.
In this paper, we study nonhomogeneous wavelet systems which have close relations to the fast wavelet transform and homogeneous wavelet systems. We introduce and characterize a pair of frequency-based nonhomogeneous dual wavelet frames in the distribution space; the proposed notion enables us to completely separate the perfect reconstruction property of a wavelet system from its stability property in function spaces. The results in this paper lead to a natural explanation for the oblique extension principle, which has been widely used to construct dual wavelet frames from refinable functions, …
In this article we study the fractional Hankel transform and its inverse on certain Gel'fand-Shilov spaces of type S. The continuous fractional wavelet transform is defined involving the fractional Hankel transform. The continuity of fractional Hankel wavelet transform is discussed on Gel'fand-Shilov spaces of type S. This article goes further to discuss the continuity property of fractional Hankel transform and fractional Hankel wavelet transform on the ultradifferentiable function spaces.
In this paper, we provide the characterization of nonhomogeneous wavelet bi-frames. First of all we introduce the reducing subspaces of Sobolev spaces over local fields of prime characteristics and then characterize the nonhomogeneous wavelet bi frames over such fields.
We show that a pseudoconvex open subset of a Banach space with an unconditional basis is biholomorphic to a closed direct submanifold of a Banach space with an unconditional basis.
We prove that the unique Gabor atom with analytical model space is the Gaussian function. We give an analogous result for the wavelet transform. For the general case we give a new approach to study the irregular Gabor and wavelet frames. We improve some results for Gabor atoms in the Feichtinger algebra, and for a special class of wavelets.
Spaces of harmonic functions in upper half-space with controlled growth near the boundary are described in terms of multiresolution approximations. The results are applied to prove the law of the iterated logarithm for the oscillation of harmonic functions along vertical lines.
In this paper we are discussing various aspects of wavelet filters. While there are earlier studies of these filters as matrix valued functions in wavelets, in signal processing, and in systems, we here expand the framework. Motivated by applications, and by bringing to bear tools from reproducing kernel theory, we point out the role of non-positive definite Hermitian inner products (negative squares), for example Krein spaces, in the study of stability questions. We focus on the non-rational case, and establish new connections with the theory of generalized Schur functions and their associate…
The notion of retro Banach frame with the help of b-linear functional in n-Banach spaces is being presented. Some properties related to the construction of new retro Banach frame in n-Banach space have been studied. In n-Banach spaces, some perturbation results of retro Banach frame have been discussed. Finally, we give a condition in which finite sum of retro Banach frames is a retro Banach frame in n-Banach space.
We provide a new and elementary proof of the continuity theorem for the wavelet and left-inverse wavelet transforms on the spaces $ \mathcal{S}_0(\mathbb{R}^n) $ and $ \mathcal{S}(\mathbb{H}^{n+1})$. We then introduce and study a new class of weighted Hölder-Zygmund spaces, where the weights are regularly varying functions. The analysis of these spaces is carried out via the wavelet transform and generalized Littlewood-Paley pairs.
We study convexity and starlikeness of quasihyperbolic and distance ratio metric balls on Banach spaces. In particular, problems related to these metrics on convex domains, and on punctured Banach spaces, are considered.
We exhibit the necessary range for which functions in the Sobolev spaces $L^s_p$ can be represented as an unconditional sum of orthonormal spline wavelet systems, such as the Battle-Lemarié wavelets. We also consider the natural extensions to Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. This builds upon, and is a generalization of, previous work of Seeger and Ullrich, where analogous results were established for the Haar wavelet system.
In this paper we first take a detail survey of the study of the Banach-Saks property of Banach spaces and then show the Banach-Saks property of the product spaces generated by a finite number of Banach spaces having the Banach-Saks property. A more general inequality for integrals of a class of composite functions is also given by using this property.
We present a new proof of Zippin's Embedding Theorem, that every separable reflexive Banach space embeds into one with shrinking and boundedly complete basis, and every Banach space with a separable dual embeds into one with a shrinking basis. This new proof leads to improved versions of other embedding results.
Battle-Lemarie wavelet systems of natural orders are established in the paper. The main result of the work is decomposition theorem in Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with local Muckenhoupt weights, which is performed in terms of bases generated by the systems of such a type. Battle-Lemarie wavelets are splines and suit very well for the study of integration operators.
In this paper, we design mother wavelets for the 1D continuous wavelet transform with some optimality properties. An optimal mother wavelet here is one that has an ambiguity function with minimal spread in the continuous coefficient space (also called phase space). Since the ambiguity function is the reproducing kernel of the coefficient space, optimal windows lead to phase space representations which are "optimally sharp." Namely, the wavelet coefficients have minimal correlations with each other. Such a construction also promotes sparsity in phase space. The spread of the ambiguity function …
Let $q\geq 2$ be an integer, and $\Bbb F_q^d$, $d\geq 1$, be the vector space over the cyclic space $\Bbb F_q$. The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, we obtain sufficient conditions on $E \subset \Bbb F_q^d$ such that the inverse Fourier transform of $1_E$ generates a tight wavelet frame in $L^2(\Bbb F_q^d)$. We call these sets (tight) wavelet frame sets. The conditions are given in terms of multiplicative and translational tilings, which is analogous with Theorem 1.1 ([20]) by Wang in the setting of finite fields. In the second part of the paper, we exhibit a constructive method for o…
This paper is devoted to the study of operator-valued Hardy spaces via wavelet method. This approach is parallel to that in noncommutative martingale case. We show that our Hardy spaces defined by wavelet coincide with those introduced by Tao Mei via the usual Lusin and Littlewood-Paley square functions. As a consequence, we give an explicit complete unconditional basis of the Hardy space H1(R) when H1(R) is equipped with an appropriate operator space structure.
Let $({\mathcal X},d,μ)$ be a metric measure space of homogeneous type in the sense of R. R. Coifman and G. Weiss and $H^1_{\rm at}({\mathcal X})$ be the atomic Hardy space. Via orthonormal bases of regular wavelets and spline functions recently constructed by P. Auscher and T. Hytönen, together with obtaining some crucial lower bounds for regular wavelets, the authors give an unconditional basis of $H^1_{\rm at}({\mathcal X})$ and several equivalent characterizations of $H^1_{\rm at}({\mathcal X})$ in terms of wavelets, which are proved useful.
The free Banach lattice over a Banach space is introduced and analyzed. This generalizes the concept of free Banach lattice over a set of generators, and allows us to study the Nakano property and the density character of non-degenerate intervals on these spaces, answering some recent questions of B. de Pagter and A.W. Wickstead. Moreover, an example of a Banach lattice which is weakly compactly generated as a lattice but not as a Banach space is exhibited, thus answering a question of J. Diestel.
Our aim in this paper is to present a new type of the modular space. This space contains the classical modular space. There are some mappings that do not have contractive condition in the usual modular space but become contraction in this new space.
In this paper, we extend the concept of continuous Bessel wavelet transform in $L^p$-space and derived the Parseval's as well as the inversion formulas. By using Bessel wavelet coefficients we characterized the Besov- Hankel space.
We study approximation properties generated by highly regular scaling functions and orthonormal wavelets. These properties are conveniently described in the framework of Gelfand-Shilov spaces. Important examples of multiresolution analyses for which our results apply arise in particular from Dziubański-Hernández construction of band-limited wavelets with subexponential decay. Our results are twofold. Firstly, we obtain approximation properties of multiresolution expansions of Gelfand-Shilov functions and (ultra)distributions. Secondly, we establish convergence of wavelet series expansions in t…
EP Banach space operators and EP Banach algebra elements are characterized using different kinds of factorizations. The results obtained generalize well-known characterizations of EP matrices, EP Hilbert space operators and EP $C^*$-algebra elements. Furthermore, new results that hold in these contexts are presented.
Our aim in this paper is to characterize local Muckenhoupt weighted Lebesgue spaces with variable exponent by compactly supported smooth wavelets. We also investigate necessary and sufficient conditions for the corresponding modular inequalities to hold. One big achievement is that the weights with exponetial growth can be handled in the framework of variable exponents.
Several characterizations of EP and normal Moore-Penrose invertible Banach algebra elements will be considered. The Banach space operator case will be also studied. The results of the present article will extend well known facts obtained in the frames of matrices and Hilbert space operators.
We refine Amitsur's theory of radicals in complete lattices and apply the obtained results to the theory of radicals in the lattices of subspaces of Banach spaces and in the lattices of ideals of Banach and C*-algebras and of Banach Lie algebras.
In this paper we introduce new function spaces which we call anisotropic hyperbolic Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. Their definition is based on a hyperbolic Littlewood-Paley analysis involving an anisotropy vector only occurring in the smoothness weights. Such spaces provide a general and natural setting in order to understand what kind of anisotropic smoothness can be described using hyperbolic wavelets (in the literature also sometimes called tensor-product wavelets), a wavelet class which hitherto has been mainly used to characterize spaces of dominating mixed smoothness. A centerpiece …
The main concern of this note is the Moore-Penrose inverse in the context of Banach spaces and algebras. Especially attention will be given to a particular class of elements with the aforementioned inverse, namely EP Banach space operators and Banach algebra elements, which will be studied and characterized extending well-known results obtained in the frame of Hilbert space operators and $C^*$-algebra elements.
