The continuous wavelet transform has become a widely used tool in applied science during the last decade. In this article we discuss some generalizations coming from actions of closed subgroups of $\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{R})$ acting on $\mathbb{R}^n$. In particular, we propose a way to invert the wavelet transform in the case where the stabilizer of a generic point in $\mathbb{R}^n$ is not compact, but a symmetric subgroup, a case that has not previously been discussed in the literature.
For any symmetry group $H$ and any appropriate matrix dilation we give an explicit method for the construction of $H$-symmetric refinable interpolatory refinable masks which satisfy sum rule of arbitrary order $n$. For each such mask we give an explicit technique for the construction of dual wavelet frames such that the corresponding wavelet masks are mutually symmetric and have the vanishing moments up to the order n. For an abelian symmetry group $H$ we modify the technique such that each constructed wavelet mask is $H$-symmetric.
For an arbitrary matrix dilation, any integer n and any integer/semi-integer c, we describe all masks that are symmetric with respect to the point c and have sum rule of order n. For each such mask, we give explicit formulas for wavelet functions that are point symmetric/antisymmetric and generate frame-like wavelet system providing approximation order n. For any matrix dilations (which are appropriate for axial symmetry group on R^2 in some natural sense) and given integer n, axial symmetric/antisymmetric frame-like wavelet systems providing approximation order n are constructed. Also, for se…
UsingWong's technique asymptotic expansion for the wavelet transform is derived and thereby asymptotic expansions for Morlet wavelet transform, Mexican Hat wavelet transform and Haar wavelet transform are obtained.
In this paper, we exploit the theory of convolution of index Whittaker transform for study of continuous and discrete Index Whittaker wavelet transform and discuss some of its basic properties. Certain boundedness, Plancherel as well as reconstruction formula for the continuous Index Whittaker Wavelet Transform (CIWWT) are obtain and Finally we discuss the discrete version of index Whittaker wavelet transform.
For a given symmetric refinable mask obeying the sum rule of order $n$, an explicit method is suggested for the construction of mutually symmetric almost frame-like wavelet system providing approximation order $n$. A transformation based on the lifting scheme is described that allows to improve almost frame-like wavelets to dual wavelet frames and preserve other properties. A direct method for the construction of dual wavelet frames providing approximation order $n$ and mutual symmetry properties is also discussed. For an abelian symmetry group $H$, a technique providing the $H$-symmetry prope…
Let $\mathscr Q$ be the quaternion Heisenberg group, and let $\mathbf P$ be the affine automorphism group of $\mathscr Q$. We develop the theory of continuous wavelet transform on the quaternion Heisenberg group via the unitary representations of $\mathbf P$ on $L^2(\mathscr Q)$. A class of radial wavelets is constructed. The inverse wavelet transform is simplified by using radial wavelets. Then we investigate the Radon transform on $\mathscr Q$. A Semyanistri-Lizorkin space is introduced, on which the Radon transform is a bijection. We deal with the Radon transform on $\mathscr Q$ both by the…
Using distribution theory we present the moment asymptotic expansion of continuous wavelet transform in different distributional spaces for large and small values of dilation parameter $a$. We also obtain asymptotic expansions for certain wavelet transform.
Finding a computationally efficient algorithm for the inverse continuous wavelet transform is a fundamental topic in applications. In this paper, we show the convergence of the inverse wavelet transform.
In this article we study the fractional Hankel transform and its inverse on certain Gel'fand-Shilov spaces of type S. The continuous fractional wavelet transform is defined involving the fractional Hankel transform. The continuity of fractional Hankel wavelet transform is discussed on Gel'fand-Shilov spaces of type S. This article goes further to discuss the continuity property of fractional Hankel transform and fractional Hankel wavelet transform on the ultradifferentiable function spaces.
The main objective of this paper is to define the mother wavelet on local fields and study the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and some of their basic properties. its inversion formula, the Parseval relation and associated convolution are also studied.
In this paper wavelet functions are introduced in the context of $q$-theory. We precisely extend the case of Bessel and $q$-Bessel wavelets to the generalized $q$-Bessel wavelets. Starting from the $(q,v)$-extension ($v=(α,β)$) of the $q$-case, associated generalized $q$-wavelets and generalized $q$-wavelet transforms are then developed for the new context. Reconstruction and Plancherel type formulas are proved.
Asymptotic expansion of the wavelet transform for small values of the dilation parameter a is obtained using asymptotic expansion of the Mellin convolution technique ofWong. Asymptotic expansions of Morlet wavelet transform, Mexican hat wavelet transform and Haar wavelet transform are obtained as special cases.
In this paper, we extend the concept of continuous Bessel wavelet transform in $L^p$-space and derived the Parseval's as well as the inversion formulas. By using Bessel wavelet coefficients we characterized the Besov- Hankel space.
We describe local and global properties of wavelet transforms of ultradifferentiable functions. The results are given in the form of continuity properties of the wavelet transform on Gelfand-Shilov type spaces and their duals. In particular, we introduce a new family of highly time-scale localized spaces on the upper half-space. We study the wavelet synthesis operator (the left-inverse of the wavelet transform) and obtain the resolution of identity (Calderón reproducing formula) in the context of ultradistributions.
We introduce a new concept of the so-called {\it composite wavelet transforms}. These transforms are generated by two components, namely, a kernel function and a wavelet function (or a measure). The composite wavelet transforms and the relevant Calderón-type reproducing formulas constitute a unified approach to explicit inversion of the Riesz, Bessel, Flett, parabolic and some other operators of the potential type generated by ordinary (Euclidean) and generalized (Bessel) translations. This approach is exhibited in the paper. Another concern is application of the composite wavelet transforms t…
The linear canonical wavelet transform has been shown to be a valuable and powerful time-frequency analyzing tool for optics and signal processing. In this article, we propose a novel transform called quaternion linear canonical wavelet transform which is designed to represent two dimensional quaternion-valued signals at different scales, locations and orientations. The proposed transform not only inherits the features of quaternion wavelet transform but also has the capability of signal representation in quaternion linear canonical domain. We investigate the fundamental properties of quaterni…
We prove that the unique Gabor atom with analytical model space is the Gaussian function. We give an analogous result for the wavelet transform. For the general case we give a new approach to study the irregular Gabor and wavelet frames. We improve some results for Gabor atoms in the Feichtinger algebra, and for a special class of wavelets.
In this paper we define a new class of continuous fractional wavelet transform (CFrWT) and study its properties in Hardy space and Morrey space. The theory developed generalize and complement some of already existing results.
We prove that the unitary affine Radon transform intertwines the quasi-regular representation of a class of semidirect products, built by shearlet dilation groups and translations, and the tensor product of a standard wavelet representation with a wavelet-like representation. This yields a formula for shearlet coefficients that involves only integral transforms applied to the affine Radon transform of the signal, thereby opening new perspectives in the inversion of the Radon transform.
We introduce a method to construct large classes of MSF wavelets of the Hardy space H^2(\R) and symmetric MSF wavelets of L^2(\R), and discuss the classification of such sets. As application, we show that there are uncountably many wavelet sets of L^2(\R) and H^2(\R). We also enumerate all symmetric wavelets of L^2(\R) with at most three intervals in the positive axis as well as 3-interval wavelet sets of H^2(\R). Finally, we construct families of MSF wavelets of L^2(\R) whose Fourier transform does not vanish in any neighbourhood of the origin.
We construct a Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) on the torus $\mathbb T^2$ following a group-theoretical approach based on the conformal group $SO(2,2)$. The Euclidean limit reproduces wavelets on the plane $\mathbb R^2$ with two dilations, which can be defined through the natural tensor product representation of usual wavelets on $\mathbb R$. Restricting ourselves to a single dilation imposes severe conditions for the mother wavelet that can be overcome by adding extra modular group $SL(2,\mathbb Z)$ transformations, thus leading to the concept of \emph{modular wavelets}. We define modular-…
We provide a new and elementary proof of the continuity theorem for the wavelet and left-inverse wavelet transforms on the spaces $ \mathcal{S}_0(\mathbb{R}^n) $ and $ \mathcal{S}(\mathbb{H}^{n+1})$. We then introduce and study a new class of weighted Hölder-Zygmund spaces, where the weights are regularly varying functions. The analysis of these spaces is carried out via the wavelet transform and generalized Littlewood-Paley pairs.
We prove that directional wavelet projections and Riesz transforms are related by interpolatory estimates. The exponents of interpolation depend on the Hölder estimates of the wavelet system. This paper complements and continues previous work on Haar projections.
Using Pathak and Pathak techniques, the basic function $D^α(u,v,w)$ associated with general novel fractional wavelet transform (GNFrWT)is defined and its properties are investigated. By using basic function $D^α(u,v,w)$ translation and convolution associated with GNFrWT are defined and certain existence theorems are proved for basic function and associated convolution.
Global and local regularities of functions are analyzed in anisotropic function spaces, under a common framework, that of hyperbolic wavelet bases. Local and directional regularity features are characterized by means of global quantities constructed upon the coefficients of hyperbolic wavelet decompositions. A multifractal analysis is introduced, that jointly accounts for scale invariance and anisotropy. Its properties are studied in depth.
In this paper, we study the convolution structure in the special affine Fourier domain to combine the advantages of the well known special affine Fourier and wavelet transforms into a novel integral transform coined as special affine wavelet transform and investigate the associated constant Q-property in the joint time-frequency domain. The preliminary analysis encompasses the derivation of the fundamental properties, orthogonality relation, inversion formula and range theorem. Finally, we extend the scope of the present study by introducing the notion of multi-resolution analysis associated w…

A wavelet is a localized function having a prescribed number of vanishing moments. In this correspondence, we provide precise arguments as to why the Hilbert transform of a wavelet is again a wavelet. In particular, we provide sharp estimates of the localization, vanishing moments, and smoothness of the transformed wavelet. We work in the general setting of non-compactly supported wavelets. Our main result is that, in the presence of some minimal smoothness and decay, the Hilbert transform of a wavelet is again as smooth and oscillating as the original wavelet, whereas its localization is cont…
Let $M$ be the space of real $n\times m$ matrices which can be identified with the Euclidean space $R^{nm}$. We introduce continuous wavelet transforms on $M$ with a multivalued scaling parameter represented by a positive definite symmetric matrix. These transforms agree with the polar decomposition on $M$ and coincide with classical ones in the rank-one case $m=1$. We prove an analog of Calderon's reproducing formula for $L^2$-functions and obtain explicit inversion formulas for the Riesz potentials and Radon transforms on $M$. We also introduce continuous ridgelet transforms associated to ma…
We explore the use of bi-orthogonal basis for continuous wavelet transformations, thus relaxing the so-called admissibility condition on the analyzing wavelet. As an application, we determine the eigenvalues and corresponding radial eigenfunctions of the Hamiltonian of relativistic Hydrogen-like atoms.
In this paper, we have given a new definition of continuous fractional wavelet transform in $\mathbb{R}^N$, namely the multidimensional fractional wavelet transform (MFrWT) and studied some of the basic properties along with the inner product relation and the reconstruction formula. We have also shown that the range of the proposed transform is a reproducing kernel Hilbert space and obtain the associated kernel. We have obtained the uncertainty principle like Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, logarithmic uncertainty principle and local uncertainty principle of the multidimensional fractional…
We define a novel time-frequency analyzing tool, namely linear canonical wavelet transform (LCWT) and study some of its important properties like inner product relation, reconstruction formula and also characterize its range. We obtain Donoho-Stark's and Lieb's uncertainty principle for the LCWT and give a lower bound for the measure of its essential support. We also give Shapiro's mean dispersion theorem for the proposed LCWT.
The group $G_2$ of invertible affine transformations of $\mathbb{R}^2$ has, up to equivalence, one square--integrable representation. Two new realizations of this representation are presented and novel continuous wavelet transforms, acting on functions of two plus one variables, are derived.
In the present paper, a wavelet family over the $n$-dimensional sphere is constructed such that for each scale the wavelet is a polynomial and the inverse wavelet transform of a continuous function converges in the supremum norm.
We identify the result of the continuous wavelet transform with the difference of solutions of two hyperbolic partial differential equations, for which wavelet's shift and scale are considered as independent variables on 2D plane. The characteristic property, which follows from the introduced representation is is the fact that the transform's values inside the triangle defined by two characteristics (a=const, b=const) and crossecting them slopped line on a scale-shift plane (a,b) are completely and uniquely defined by the value of transform and its derivatives along the last mentioned line.
In this paper, we have studied continuous fractional wavelet transform (CFrWT) in $n$-dimensional Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^n$ with dilation parameter $\boldsymbol a=(a_{1},a_{2},\ldots,a_{n}),$ such that none of $a_{i}'s$ are zero. Necessary and sufficient condition for the admissibility of a function is established with the help of fractional convolution. Inner product relation, reconstruction formula and the reproducing kernel for the CFrWT depending on two wavelets are obtained. Heisenberg's uncertainty inequality and Local uncertainty inequality for the CFrWT are obtained. Finally, boun…
{.2in} {\small {\bf Abstract.} Due to the extra degrees of freedom, special affine Fourier transform (SAFT) has achieved a respectable status within a short span and got versatile applicability in the areas of signal processing, image processing, sampling theory, quantum mechanics. However, due to its global kernel, SAFT fails to obtain local information of non-transient signals. To overcome this, we in this paper introduce the concept of novel special affine wavelet transform (NSAWT) and extend key harmonic analysis results to NSAWT analogous to those for the wavelet transform. We first establ…
The inverse question of identifying a function from the nodes (zeroes) of its wavelet transform arises in a number of fields. These include whether the nodes of a heat or hypoelliptic equation solution determine its initial conditions, and in mathematical vision theory the Marr conjecture, on whether an image is mathematically determined by its edge information. We prove a general version of this conjecture by reducing it to the moment problem, using a basis dual to the Taylor monomial basis $x^α$ on $\mathbb {R}^n$.
This paper presents a full catalogue, up to conjugacy and subgroups of finite index, of all matrix groups $H < {\rm GL}(3,\mathbb{R})$ that give rise to a continuous wavelet transform with associated irreducible quasi-regular representation. For each group in this class, coorbit theory allows to consistently define spaces of sparse signals, and to construct atomic decompositions converging simultaneously in a whole range of these spaces. As an application of the classification, we investigate the existence of compactly supported admissible vectors and atoms for the groups.
In this paper we extend the atomic decompositions previously obtained for Besov spaces related to the forward light cone to general symmetric cones. We do so via wavelet theory adapted to the cone. The wavelet transforms sets up an isomorphism between the Besov spaces and certain reproducing kernel function spaces on the group, and sampling of the transformed data will provide the atomic decompositions and frames for the Besov spaces.
In this paper, we are concerned with $n$-dimensional spherical wavelets derived from the theory of approximate identities. For nonzonal bilinear wavelets introduced by Ebert \emph{et al.} in 2009 we prove isometry and Euclidean limit property. Further, we develop a theory of linear wavelets. In the end, we discuss the relationship to other wavelet constructions.
We consider the phase retrieval problem in which one tries to reconstruct a function from the modulus of its wavelet transform. We study the unicity and stability of the reconstruction. In the case where the wavelets are Cauchy wavelets, we prove that the modulus of the wavelet transform uniquely determines the function up to a global phase. We show that the reconstruction operator is continuous but not uniformly continuous. We describe how to construct pairs of functions which are far away in $L^2$-norm but whose wavelet transforms are very close, in modulus. The principle is to modulate the …
We demonstrate that the Plancherel transform for Type-I groups provides one with a natural, unified perspective for the generalized continuous wavelet transform, on the one hand, and for a class of Wigner functions, on the other. The wavelet transform of a signal is an $L^2$-function on an appropriately chosen group, while the Wigner function is defined on a coadjoint orbit of the group and serves as an alternative characterization of the signal, which is often used in practical applications. The Plancherel transform maps $L^2$-functions on a group unitarily to fields of Hilbert-Schmidt operat…
In this short paper we discuss how the position - scale half-space of wavelet analysis may be cut into different regions. We discuss conditions under which they are independent in the sense that the Töplitz operators associated with their characteristic functions commute modulo smoothing operators. This shall be used to define microlocal classes of distributions having a well defined behavior along lines in wavelet space. This allows us the description of singular and regular directions in distributions. As an application we discuss elliptic regularity for these microlocal classes for domains …
For some special window functions $ψ_β \in H^2(\mathbb{C}^+),$ we prove that, over all sets $Δ\subset \mathbb{C}^+$ of fixed hyperbolic measure $ν(Δ),$ the ones over which the Wavelet transform $W_{\overline{ψ_β}}$ with window $\overline{ψ_β}$ concentrates optimally are exactly the discs with respect to the pseudohyperbolic metric of the upper half space. This answers a question raised by Abreu and Dörfler. Our techniques make use of a framework recently developed in a previous work by F. Nicola and the second author, but in the hyperbolic context induced by the dilation symmetry of the Wavele…
The constant center frequency to bandwidth ratio (Q-factor) of wavelet transforms provides a very natural representation for audio data. However, invertible wavelet transforms have either required non-uniform decimation -- leading to irregular data structures that are cumbersome to work with -- or require excessively high oversampling with unacceptable computational overhead. Here, we present a novel decimation strategy for wavelet transforms that leads to stable representations with oversampling rates close to one and uniform decimation. Specifically, we show that finite implementations of th…
We propose a novel method for constructing wavelet transforms of functions defined on the vertices of an arbitrary finite weighted graph. Our approach is based on defining scaling using the the graph analogue of the Fourier domain, namely the spectral decomposition of the discrete graph Laplacian $Ł$. Given a wavelet generating kernel $g$ and a scale parameter $t$, we define the scaled wavelet operator $T_g^t = g(tŁ)$. The spectral graph wavelets are then formed by localizing this operator by applying it to an indicator function. Subject to an admissibility condition on $g$, this procedure def…
It is shown that any convolution operator in the time domain can be represented exactly as a multiplication operator in the time-scale (wavelet) domain. The Mellin transform gives a one-to-one correspondence between frequency filters (multiplications in the frequency domain) and scale filters (multiplications in the scale domain), subject to the convergence of the defining integrals. The usual wavelet reconstruction theorem is a special case. Applications to the denoising of random signals are proposed. It is argued that the present method is more suitable for removing the effects of atmospher…

An exact and general expression for the analytic wavelet transform of a real-valued signal is constructed, resolving the time-dependent effects of non-negligible amplitude and frequency modulation. The analytic signal is first locally represented as a modulated oscillation, demodulated by its own instantaneous frequency, and then Taylor-expanded at each point in time. The terms in this expansion, called the instantaneous modulation functions, are time-varying functions which quantify, at increasingly higher orders, the local departures of the signal from a uniform sinusoidal oscillation. Close…
