In this paper we introduce new function spaces which we call anisotropic hyperbolic Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. Their definition is based on a hyperbolic Littlewood-Paley analysis involving an anisotropy vector only occurring in the smoothness weights. Such spaces provide a general and natural setting in order to understand what kind of anisotropic smoothness can be described using hyperbolic wavelets (in the literature also sometimes called tensor-product wavelets), a wavelet class which hitherto has been mainly used to characterize spaces of dominating mixed smoothness.
A centerpiece of our present work are characterizations of these new spaces based on the hyperbolic wavelet transform. Hereby we treat both, the standard approach using wavelet systems equipped with sufficient smoothness, decay, and vanishing moments, but also the very simple and basic hyperbolic Haar system.
The second major question we pursue is the relationship between the novel hyperbolic spaces and the classical anisotropic Besov-Lizorkin-Triebel scales. As our results show, in general, both approaches to resolve an anisotropy do not coincide. However, in the Sobolev range this is the case, providing a link to apply the newly obtained hyperbolic wavelet characterizations to the classical setting. In particular, this allows for detecting classical anisotropies via the coefficients of a universal hyperbolic wavelet basis, without the need of adaption of the basis or a-priori knowledge on the anisotropy.
We study embeddings between generalised Besov-Morrey spaces. Both sufficient and necessary conditions for the embeddings are proved. Embeddings of the Besov-Morrey spaces into the Lebesgue spaces are also considered. Our approach requires a wavelet characterisation of the spaces which we establish for the system of Daubechies wavelets.
In this paper, we extend the concept of continuous Bessel wavelet transform in $L^p$-space and derived the Parseval's as well as the inversion formulas. By using Bessel wavelet coefficients we characterized the Besov- Hankel space.
We study the embeddings of (homogeneous and inhomogeneous) anisotropic Besov spaces associated to an expansive matrix $A$ into Sobolev spaces, with focus on the influence of $A$ on the embedding behaviour. For a large range of parameters, we derive sharp characterizations of embeddings.
In this paper we investigate the Besov spaces on compact Lie groups in a subelliptic setting, that is, associated with a family of vector fields, satisfying the Hörmander condition, and their corresponding sub-Laplacian. Embedding properties between subelliptic Besov spaces and Besov spaces associated to the Laplacian on the group are proved. We link the description of subelliptic Sobolev spaces with the matrix-valued quantisation procedure of pseudo-differential operators in order to provide subelliptic Sobolev and Besov estimates for operators in the Hörmander classes. Interpolation properti…
Under certain restrictions we describe the set of all pointwise multipliers in case of Sobolev and Besov spaces of dominating mixed smoothness. In addition we shall give necessary and sufficient conditions for the case that these spaces form algebras with respect to pointwise multiplication.
In this paper we will focus on understanding the relation between Sobolev embedding theorems for Hajłasz-Besov spaces defined on a doubling metric measure space $(Ω,d,μ)$ and the non-collapsing condition of the measure, i.e. \[ \inf_{x\inΩ}μ(B(x,1))>0. \] We will also obtain embedding results for Hajłasz-Besov spaces whose modulus of smoothness is generated by a rearrangement invariant quasi-norm.
In this article, we study the relation between Sobolev-type embeddings for Sobolev spaces or Besov spaces or Triebel-Lizorkin spaces defined either on a doubling or on a geodesic metric measure space and lower bound for measure of balls either in the whole space or in a domain inside the space.
There are known trace and extension theorems relating functions in a weighted Sobolev space in a domain U to functions in a Besov space on the boundary bU. We extend these theorems to the case where the Sobolev exponent p is less than one by modifying our Sobolev spaces to consider averages of functions in Whitney balls. Averaged Sobolev spaces are also of interest in the applications in the case where p>1, and so we also provide trace and extension results in that case. Finally, we provide some comparable results for Neumann traces and extensions.
The study of Sobolev inequalities can be divided in two cases: p = 1 and 1 < p < +$\infty$. In the case p = 1 we study here a relaxed version of refined Sobolev inequalities. When p > 1, using as base space classical Lorentz spaces associated to a weight from the Arino-Muckenhoupt class Bp, we will study Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities. As a by-product we will also consider Morrey-Sobolev inequalities. These arguments can be generalized to many different frameworks, in particular the proofs are given in the setting of stratified Lie groups.
This article describes how the ideas promoted by the fundamental papers published by M. Frazier and B. Jawerth in the eighties have influenced subsequent developments related to the theory of atomic decompositions and Banach frames for function spaces such as the modulation spaces and Besov-Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. Both of these classes of spaces arise as special cases of two different, general constructions of function spaces: coorbit spaces and decomposition spaces. Coorbit spaces are defined by imposing certain decay conditions on the so-called voice transform of the function/distribution u…
Although numerous studies have focused on normal Besov spaces, limited studies have been conducted on exponentially weighted Besov spaces. Therefore, we define exponentially weighted Besov space $VB_{p,q}^{δ,w}(\mathbb{R}^d)$ whose smoothness includes normal Besov spaces, Besov spaces with dominating mixed smoothness, and their interpolation. Furthermore, we obtain wavelet characterization of $VB_{p,q}^{δ,w}(\mathbb{R}^d)$. Next, approximation formulas such as sparse grids are derived using the determined formula. The results of this study are expected to provide considerable insight into the …
The embedding relations between Besov-Triebel-Sobolev spaces and modulation spaces are determined explicitly. We extend the results of Sugimoto[2007]; Wang[2007] and Kobayashi[2011] to the most general cases. And we give the sharp embedding between Fourier $L^{p}$ spaces and modulation spaces.
In this paper, we provide the characterization of nonhomogeneous wavelet bi-frames. First of all we introduce the reducing subspaces of Sobolev spaces over local fields of prime characteristics and then characterize the nonhomogeneous wavelet bi frames over such fields.
In this article, the authors establish the wavelet characterization of Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces on a given space $(X,d,μ)$ of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss. Moreover, the authors introduce almost diagonal operators on Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin sequence spaces on $X$, and obtain their boundedness. Using this wavelet characterization and this boundedness of almost diagonal operators, the authors obtain the molecular characterization of Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces. Applying this molecular characterization, the authors further establish the Littlewood--Paley…
The purpose of this article is twofold. The first is to strengthen fractional Sobolev type inequalities in Besov spaces via the classical Lorentz space. In doing so, we show that the Sobolev inequality in Besov spaces is equivalent to the fractional Hardy inequality and the iso-capacitary type inequality. Secondly, we will strengthen fractional Sobolev type inequalities in Besov spaces via capacitary Lorentz spaces associated with Besov capacities. For this purpose, we first study the embedding of the associated capacitary Lorentz space to the classical Lorentz space. Then, the embedding of th…
We establish trace theorems for function spaces defined on general Ahlfors regular metric spaces $Z$. The results cover the Triebel-Lizorkin spaces and the Besov spaces for smoothness indices $s<1,$ as well as the first order Hajłasz-Sobolev space $M^{1,p}(Z)$. They generalize the classical results from the Euclidean setting, since the traces of these function spaces onto any closed Ahlfors regular subset $F \subset Z$ are Besov spaces defined intrinsically on $F$. Our method employs the definitions of the function spaces via hyperbolic fillings of the underlying metric space.
In this paper we present a comprehensive treatment of function spaces with logarithmic smoothness (Besov, Sobolev, Triebel-Lizorkin). We establish the following results: Sharp embeddings between the Besov spaces defined by differences and by Fourier-analytical decompositions as well as between Besov and Sobolev/Triebel-Lizorkin spaces; Various new characterizations for Besov norms in terms of different K-functionals. For instance, we derive characterizations via ball averages, approximation methods, heat kernels, and Bianchini-type norms; Sharp estimates for Besov norms of derivatives and pote…
We consider Banach spaces equipped with a set of strongly continuous bounded semigroups satisfying certain conditions. Using these semigroups we introduce an analog of a modulus of continuity and define analogs of Besov norms. A generalization of a classical interpolation theorem is proven in which the role of Sobolev spaces is played by subspaces defined in terms of infinitesimal operators of these semigroups. We show that our assumptions about a given set of semigroups are satisfied in the case of a strongly continuous bounded representation of a Lie group. In the case of a unitary represent…
In this paper, we investigate the relation between Sobolev-type embeddings of Hajłasz-Besov spaces (and also Hajłasz-Triebel-Lizorkin spaces) defined on a metric measure space $(X,d,μ)$ and lower bound for the measure $μ.$ We prove that if the measure $μ$ satisfies $μ(B(x,r))\geq cr^Q$ for some $Q>0$ and for any ball $B(x,r)\subset X,$ then the Sobolev-type embeddings hold on balls for both these spaces. On the other hand, if the Sobolev-type embeddings hold in a domain $Ω\subset X,$ then we prove that the domain $Ω$ satisfies the so-called measure density condition, i.e., $μ(B(x,r)\capΩ)\geq …
In this papae we introduce and investigate new 2-microlocal spaces associated with Besov type and Triebel-LIzorkin type spaces. We establish characterizations of these function spaces via the phi transform, the atom and molecular decomposition and wavelet decomposition. As applications we consider the boundedness of the Calderon-Zygmund operator and the pseudo-differential operator on these function spaces
We investigate two density questions for Sobolev, Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces on rough sets. Our main results, stated in the simplest Sobolev space setting, are that: (i) for an open set $Ω\subset\mathbb R^n$, $\mathcal{D}(Ω)$ is dense in $\{u\in H^s(\mathbb R^n):{\rm supp}\, u\subset \overlineΩ\}$ whenever $\partialΩ$ has zero Lebesgue measure and $Ω$ is "thick" (in the sense of Triebel); and (ii) for a $d$-set $Γ\subset\mathbb R^n$ ($0<d<n$), $\{u\in H^{s_1}(\mathbb R^n):{\rm supp}\, u\subset Γ\}$ is dense in $\{u\in H^{s_2}(\mathbb R^n):{\rm supp}\, u\subset Γ\}$ whenever $-\frac{n-d…
In this paper, we study function spaces defined via dyadic energies on the boundaries of regular trees. We show that correct choices of dyadic energies result in Besov-type spaces that are trace spaces of (weighted) first order Sobolev spaces.
We present some Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg-type inequalities on Herz-type Besov-Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, Besov-Morrey spaces and Triebel-Lizorkin-Morrey spaces. More Precisely, we investigate the inequalities \begin{equation*} \big\|f\big\|_{\dot{k}_{v,σ}^{α_{1},r}}\leq c\big\|f\big\|_{\dot{K}_{u}^{α_{2},δ}}^{1-θ}\big\|f\big\|_{\dot{K}_{p}^{α_{3},δ_{1}}A_{β}^{s}}^{θ}, \end{equation*} and \begin{equation*} \big\|f\big\|_{\mathcal{E}_{p,2,u}^{σ}}\leq c\big\|f\big\|_{\mathcal{M}_{μ}^{δ}}^{1-θ}\big\|f\big\|_{\mathcal{N}_{q,β,v}^{s}}^{θ}, \end{equation*} with some appropriate assumptions on the para…
We show that a domain is an extension domain for a Hajłasz-Besov or for a Hajłasz-Triebel-Lizorkin space if and only if it satisfies a measure density condition. We use a modification of the Whitney extension where integral averages are replaced by median values, which allows us to handle also the case $0<p<1$. The necessity of the measure density condition is derived from embedding theorems; in the case of Hajłasz-Besov spaces we apply an optimal Lorentz-type Sobolev embedding theorem which we prove using a new interpolation result. This interpolation theorem says that Hajłasz-Besov spaces ar…
We investigate Besov spaces of self-affine tilings of ${\Bbb R}^{n}$ and discuss various characterizations of those Besov spaces. We see what is a finite set of functions which generates the Besov spaces from a view of multiresolution approximation on self-affine lattice tilings of ${\Bbb R}^{n}$. Using this result we give a generalization of already known characterizations of Besov spaces given by wavelet expansion and we apply to study the pointwise H${\ddot {\rm o}}$lder space. Furthermore we give descriptions of scaling exponents measured by Besov spaces, and estimations of a pointwise H${…
In this article, for an optimal range of the smoothness parameter $s$ that depends (quantitatively) on the geometric makeup of the underlying space, the authors identify purely measure theoretic conditions that fully characterize embedding and extension domains for the scale of Hajłasz--Triebel--Lizorkin spaces $M^s_{p,q}$ and Hajłasz--Besov spaces $N^s_{p,q}$ in general spaces of homogeneous type. Although stated in the context of quasi-metric spaces, these characterizations improve related work even in the metric setting. In particular, as a corollary of the main results in this article, the…
In this paper we introduce Besov-type spaces with variable smoothness and integrability. We show that these spaces are characterized by the $φ$-transforms in appropriate sequence spaces and we obtain atomic decompositions for these spaces. Moreover the Sobolev embeddings for these function spaces are obtained.
Explicit formulae are given for a type of Battle-Lemarié scaling functions and related wavelets. Compactly supported sums of their translations are established and applied to alternative norm characterization of sequence spaces isometrically isomorphic to Nikolskii-Besov spaces on R.
Battle-Lemarie wavelet systems of natural orders are established in the paper. The main result of the work is decomposition theorem in Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with local Muckenhoupt weights, which is performed in terms of bases generated by the systems of such a type. Battle-Lemarie wavelets are splines and suit very well for the study of integration operators.
We introduce Besov spaces with variable smoothness and integrability by using the continuous version of Calderòn reproducing formula. We show that our space is well-defined, i.e., independent of the choice of basis functions. We characterize these function spaces by so-called Peetre maximal functions and we obtain the Sobolev embeddings for these function spaces. We use these results to prove the atomic decomposition for these spaces.
In this paper, we study a newly developed shearlet system on bounded domains which yields frames for $H^s(Ω)$ for some $s\in \mathbb{N}$, $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^2$. We will derive approximation rates with respect to $H^s(Ω)$ norms for functions whose derivatives admit smooth jumps along curves and demonstrate superior rates to those provided by pure wavelet systems. These improved approximation rates demonstrate the potential of the novel shearlet system for the discretization of partial differential equations. Therefore, we implement an adaptive shearlet-based algorithm for the solution of an e…
We study the interrelation between the limit $L_p(Ω)$-Sobolev regularity $\overline{s}_p$ of (classes of) functions on bounded Lipschitz domains $Ω\subseteq\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 2$, and the limit regularity $\overlineα_p$ within the corresponding adaptivity scale of Besov spaces $B^α_{τ,τ}(Ω)$, where $1/τ=α/d+1/p$ and $α>0$ ($p>1$ fixed). The former determines the convergence rate of uniform numerical methods, whereas the latter corresponds to the convergence rate of best $N$-term approximation. We show how additional information on the Besov or Triebel-Lizorkin regularity may be used to deduc…
