We establish wavelet characterizations of homogeneous Besov spaces on stratified Lie groups, both in terms of continuous and discrete wavelet systems.
We first introduce a notion of homogeneous Besov space $\dot{B}_{p,q}^s$ in terms of a Littlewood-Paley-type decomposition, in analogy to the well-known characterization of the Euclidean case. Such decompositions can be defined via the spectral measure of a suitably chosen sub-Laplacian. We prove that the scale of Besov spaces is independent of the precise choice of Littlewood-Paley decomposition. In particular, different sub-Laplacians yield the same Besov spaces.
We then turn to wavelet characterizations, first via continuous wavelet transforms (which can be viewed as continuous-scale Littlewood-Paley decompositions), then via discretely indexed systems. We prove the existence of wavelet frames and associated atomic decomposition formulas for all homogeneous Besov spaces ${\dot B}_{p,q}^{s}$, with $1 \le p,q < \infty$ and $s \in \mathbb{R}$.
We study embeddings between generalised Besov-Morrey spaces. Both sufficient and necessary conditions for the embeddings are proved. Embeddings of the Besov-Morrey spaces into the Lebesgue spaces are also considered. Our approach requires a wavelet characterisation of the spaces which we establish for the system of Daubechies wavelets.
In this paper, we extend the concept of continuous Bessel wavelet transform in $L^p$-space and derived the Parseval's as well as the inversion formulas. By using Bessel wavelet coefficients we characterized the Besov- Hankel space.
We introduce a general definition of homogeneous Besov spaces on a stratified Lie group $G$, based on a Littlewood-Paley-type decomposition of Schwartz functions with all moments vanishing. We show that under mild and intuitive conditions the spaces thus defined are independent of the decomposition employed. A corollary of this is that previously constructed versions of homogeneous Besov spaces on $G$, relying on the spectral calculus of a sub-Laplacian of the group, are consistent, i.e., independent of the choice of sub-Laplacian. We further prove characterizations of homogeneous Besov spaces…
Let G be a stratified Lie group and L be the sub-Laplacian on G. Let 0 \neq f\in S(R^+). We show that Lf(L)δ, the distribution kernel of the operator Lf(L), is an admissible function on G. We also show that, if ξf(ξ) satisfies Daubechies' criterion, then L f(L)δgenerates a frame for any sufficiently fine lattice subgroup of G.
Although numerous studies have focused on normal Besov spaces, limited studies have been conducted on exponentially weighted Besov spaces. Therefore, we define exponentially weighted Besov space $VB_{p,q}^{δ,w}(\mathbb{R}^d)$ whose smoothness includes normal Besov spaces, Besov spaces with dominating mixed smoothness, and their interpolation. Furthermore, we obtain wavelet characterization of $VB_{p,q}^{δ,w}(\mathbb{R}^d)$. Next, approximation formulas such as sparse grids are derived using the determined formula. The results of this study are expected to provide considerable insight into the …
The study of Sobolev inequalities can be divided in two cases: p = 1 and 1 < p < +$\infty$. In the case p = 1 we study here a relaxed version of refined Sobolev inequalities. When p > 1, using as base space classical Lorentz spaces associated to a weight from the Arino-Muckenhoupt class Bp, we will study Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities. As a by-product we will also consider Morrey-Sobolev inequalities. These arguments can be generalized to many different frameworks, in particular the proofs are given in the setting of stratified Lie groups.
In this paper we introduce new function spaces which we call anisotropic hyperbolic Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. Their definition is based on a hyperbolic Littlewood-Paley analysis involving an anisotropy vector only occurring in the smoothness weights. Such spaces provide a general and natural setting in order to understand what kind of anisotropic smoothness can be described using hyperbolic wavelets (in the literature also sometimes called tensor-product wavelets), a wavelet class which hitherto has been mainly used to characterize spaces of dominating mixed smoothness. A centerpiece …
In this paper we extend the atomic decompositions previously obtained for Besov spaces related to the forward light cone to general symmetric cones. We do so via wavelet theory adapted to the cone. The wavelet transforms sets up an isomorphism between the Besov spaces and certain reproducing kernel function spaces on the group, and sampling of the transformed data will provide the atomic decompositions and frames for the Besov spaces.
In this article, the authors establish the wavelet characterization of Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces on a given space $(X,d,μ)$ of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss. Moreover, the authors introduce almost diagonal operators on Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin sequence spaces on $X$, and obtain their boundedness. Using this wavelet characterization and this boundedness of almost diagonal operators, the authors obtain the molecular characterization of Besov and Triebel--Lizorkin spaces. Applying this molecular characterization, the authors further establish the Littlewood--Paley…
This article describes how the ideas promoted by the fundamental papers published by M. Frazier and B. Jawerth in the eighties have influenced subsequent developments related to the theory of atomic decompositions and Banach frames for function spaces such as the modulation spaces and Besov-Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. Both of these classes of spaces arise as special cases of two different, general constructions of function spaces: coorbit spaces and decomposition spaces. Coorbit spaces are defined by imposing certain decay conditions on the so-called voice transform of the function/distribution u…
We give characterizations for homogeneous and inhomogeneous Besov-Lizorkin-Triebel spaces in terms of continuous local means for the full range of parameters. In particular, we prove characterizations in terms of Lusin functions and spaces involving the Peetre maximal function to apply the classical coorbit space theory due to Feichtinger and Gröchenig. This results in atomic decompositions and wavelet bases for homogeneous spaces. In particular we give sufficient conditions for suitable wavelets in terms of moment, decay and smoothness conditions.
In this paper, the authors establish new characterizations of the recently introduced Besov-type spaces $\dot{B}^{s,τ}_{p,q}({\mathbb R}^n)$ and Triebel-Lizorkin-type spaces $\dot{F}^{s,τ}_{p,q}({\mathbb R}^n)$ with $p\in (0,\infty]$, $s\in{\mathbb R}$, $τ\in [0,\infty)$, and $q\in (0,\infty]$, as well as their preduals, the Besov-Hausdorff spaces $B\dot{H}^{s,τ}_{p,q}(\R^n)$ and Triebel-Lizorkin-Hausdorff spaces $F\dot{H}^{s,τ}_{p,q}(\R^n)$, in terms of the local means, the Peetre maximal function of local means, and the tent space (the Lusin area function) in both discrete and continuous typ…
In this papae we introduce and investigate new 2-microlocal spaces associated with Besov type and Triebel-LIzorkin type spaces. We establish characterizations of these function spaces via the phi transform, the atom and molecular decomposition and wavelet decomposition. As applications we consider the boundedness of the Calderon-Zygmund operator and the pseudo-differential operator on these function spaces
We study the continuity and compactness of embeddings for radial Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with weights in the Muckenhoupt class $A_\infty$. The main tool is a discretization in terms of an almost orthogonal wavelet expansion adapted to the radial situation.
Matrix-Weighted Besov-Type and Triebel--Lizorkin-Type Spaces III: Characterizations of Molecules and Wavelets, Trace Theorems, and Boundedness of Pseudo-Differential Operators and Calderón--Zygmund Operators
Function spaces are central topic in analysis. Often those spaces and related analysis involves symmetries in form of an action of a Lie group. Coorbit theory as introduced by Feichtinger and Gröchenig and then later extended in [3] gives a unified method to construct Banach spaces of functions based on representations of Lie groups. In this article we identify the homogeneous Besov spaces on stratified Lie groups introduced in [13] as coorbit spaces in the sense of [3] and use this to derive atomic decompositions for the Besov spaces.
Nowadays the theory and application of wavelet decompositions plays an important role not only for the study of function spaces (of Lebesgue, Hardy, Sobolev, Besov, Triebel-Lizorkin type) but also for its applications in signal and numerical analysis, partial differential equations and image processing. In this context it it a hard problem to construct wavelet bases for suitable function spaces on domains, e. g. the unit cube. A big step in this direction are the contributions of Hans Triebel from 2006 to 2008 where he constructed Riesz bases for classes of Besov- and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces o…
We investigate Besov spaces of self-affine tilings of ${\Bbb R}^{n}$ and discuss various characterizations of those Besov spaces. We see what is a finite set of functions which generates the Besov spaces from a view of multiresolution approximation on self-affine lattice tilings of ${\Bbb R}^{n}$. Using this result we give a generalization of already known characterizations of Besov spaces given by wavelet expansion and we apply to study the pointwise H${\ddot {\rm o}}$lder space. Furthermore we give descriptions of scaling exponents measured by Besov spaces, and estimations of a pointwise H${…
In this paper, we study the Besov regularity of d-dimensional Lévy white noises. More precisely, we describe new sample paths properties of a given white noise in terms of weighted Besov spaces. In particular, the smoothness and integrability properties of Lévy white noises are characterized using the Blumenthal-Getoor indices. Our techniques rely on wavelet methods and generalized moments estimates for Lévy white noises.
Explicit formulae are given for a type of Battle-Lemarié scaling functions and related wavelets. Compactly supported sums of their translations are established and applied to alternative norm characterization of sequence spaces isometrically isomorphic to Nikolskii-Besov spaces on R.
A rather tricky question is the construction of wavelet bases on domains for suitable function spaces (Sobolev, Besov, Triebel-Lizorkin type). In his monograph from 2008, Triebel presented an approach how to construct wavelet (Riesz) bases in function spaces of Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin type on cellular domains, in particular on the cube. However, he had to exclude essential exceptional values of the smoothness parameter $s$, for instance the theorems do not cover the Sobolev space W_2^1(Q) on the n-dimensional cube Q for n at least 2. Triebel also gave an idea how to deal with those exceptio…
In this work we establish a sampling theorem for functions in Besov spaces on spaces of homogeneous type as defined in [HY] in the spirit of their recent counterpart for R d established by Jaming-Malinnikova in [JM]. The main tool is the wavelet decomposition presented by Deng-Han in [DH].
Battle-Lemarie wavelet systems of natural orders are established in the paper. The main result of the work is decomposition theorem in Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces with local Muckenhoupt weights, which is performed in terms of bases generated by the systems of such a type. Battle-Lemarie wavelets are splines and suit very well for the study of integration operators.
In the last decade, methods based on various kinds of spherical wavelet bases have found applications in virtually all areas where analysis of spherical data is required, including cosmology, weather prediction, and geodesy. In particular, the so-called needlets (=band-limited Parseval frames) have become an important tool for the analysis of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) temperature data. The goal of the present paper is to construct band-limited and highly localized Parseval frames on general compact homogeneous manifolds. Our construction can be considered as an analogue of the well-kno…
We provide explicit criteria for wavelets to give rise to frames and atomic decompositions in ${\rm L}^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$, but also in more general Banach function spaces. We consider wavelet systems that arise by translating and dilating the mother wavelet, with the dilations taken from a suitable subgroup of ${\rm GL}(\mathbb{R}^d)$, the so-called {\em dilation group}.The paper provides a unified approach that is applicable to a wide range of dilation groups, thus giving rise to new atomic decompositions for homogeneous Besov spaces in arbitrary dimensions, but also for other function spaces s…
Coorbit space theory is an abstract approach to function spaces and their atomic decompositions. The original theory developed by Feichtinger and Gr{ö}chenig in the late 1980ies heavily uses integrable representations of locally compact groups. Their theory covers, in particular, homogeneous Besov-Lizorkin-Triebel spaces, modulation spaces, Bergman spaces, and the recent shearlet spaces. However, inhomogeneous Besov-Lizorkin-Triebel spaces cannot be covered by their group theoretical approach. Later it was recognized by Fornasier and the first named author that one may replace coherent states …
On a general Lie group $G$ endowed with a sub-Riemannian structure and of local dimension $d$, we characterize the pointwise multipliers of Triebel--Lizorkin spaces $F^{p,q}_α$ for $p,q\in (1,\infty)$ and $α>d/p$, and those of Besov spaces $B^{p,q}_α$ for $q\in [1,\infty]$, $p>d$ and $d/p< α<1$. When $G$ is stratified, we extend the latter characterization to all $p,q\in [1,\infty]$ and $α>d/p$.
We study fractional variants of the quasi-norms introduced by Brezis, Van Schaftingen, and Yung in the study of the Sobolev space $\dot W^{1,p}$. The resulting spaces are identified as a special class of real interpolation spaces of Sobolev-Slobodecki\uı spaces. We establish the equivalence between Fourier analytic definitions and definitions via difference operators acting on measurable functions. We prove various new results on embeddings and non-embeddings, and give applications to harmonic and caloric extensions. For suitable wavelet bases we obtain a characterization of the approximation …
We determine all cases for which the $d$-dimensional Haar wavelet system $H^d$ on the unit cube $I^d$ is a conditional or unconditional Schauder basis in the classical isotropic Besov function spaces ${B}_{p,q,1}^s(I^d)$, $0<p,q<\infty$, $0\le s < 1/p$, defined in terms of first-order $L_p$ moduli of smoothness. We obtain similar results for the tensor-product Haar system $\tilde{H}^d$, and characterize the parameter range for which the dual of ${B}_{p,q,1}^s(I^d)$ is trivial for $0<p<1$.
In this paper we give a thorough study of Lipschitz spaces. We obtain the following new results: (1) Sharp Jawerth-Franke-type embeddings between the Besov and Lipschitz spaces extending the classical results for Besov and Sobolev spaces; (2) Sharp embeddings between Lipschitz spaces with different parameters extending the Brézis-Wainger result; (3) Characterizations for Lipschitz spaces norms via Fourier transforms and wavelets; (4) Sharp embeddings from Lipschitz spaces into Lebesgue/Lorentz-Zygmund spaces.
We study in this article the Improved Sobolev inequalities with Muckenhoupt weights within the framework of stratified Lie groups. This family of inequalities estimate the Lq norm of a function by the geometric mean of two norms corresponding to Sobolev spaces W(s;p) and Besov spaces B(-b, infty, infty). When the value p which characterizes Sobolev space is strictly larger than 1, the required result is well known in R^n and is classically obtained by a Littlewood-Paley dyadic blocks manipulation. For these inequalities we will develop here another totally different technique. When p = 1, thes…
In this article, a solution to the so-called Frisch-Parisi conjecture is brought. This achievement is based on three ingredients developed in this paper. First almost-doubling fully supported Radon measures on $\R^d$ with a prescribed singularity spectrum are constructed. Second we define new \textit{heterogeneous} Besov spaces $B^{μ,p}_{q}$ and find a characterization using wavelet coefficients. Finally, we fully describe the multifractal nature of typical functions in the function spaces $B^{μ,p}_{q}$. Combining these three results, we find Baire function spaces in which typical functions ha…
Restricted non-linear approximation is a type of N-term approximation where a measure $ν$ on the index set (rather than the counting measure) is used to control the number of terms in the approximation. We show that embeddings for restricted non-linear approximation spaces in terms of weighted Lorentz sequence spaces are equivalent to Jackson and Bernstein type inequalities, and also to the upper and lower Temlyakov property. As applications we obtain results for wavelet bases in Triebel-Lizorkin spaces by showing the Temlyakow property in this setting. Moreover, new interpolation results for …
Continuing previous work, this paper provides maximal characterizations of anisotropic Triebel-Lizorkin spaces $\dot{\mathbf{F}}^α_{p,q}$ for the endpoint case of $p = \infty$ and the full scale of parameters $α\in \mathbb{R}$ and $q \in (0,\infty]$. In particular, a Peetre-type characterization of the anisotropic Besov space $\dot{\mathbf{B}}^α_{\infty,\infty} = \dot{\mathbf{F}}^α_{\infty,\infty}$ is obtained. As a consequence, it is shown that there exist dual molecular frames and Riesz sequences in $\dot{\mathbf{F}}^α_{\infty,q}$.
In this work we generalize the spaces T^{p}_{u} introduced by Calderón and Zygmund using a pointwise version of conditions defining the generalized Besov spaces and give conditions binding the functions belonging to these spaces and the wavelet coefficients of such functions. Next, we propose a multifractal formalism based on the new spaces wich generalize the so-called wavelet leaders method and show that it is satisfied on a prevalent set.
We study traces of weighted Triebel-Lizorkin spaces $F^s_{p,q}({\mathbb R}^n,w)$ on hyperplanes ${\mathbb R}^{n-k}$, where the weight is of Muckenhoupt type. We concentrate on the example weight $w_α(x) = |x_n|^α$ when $|x_n|\leq 1$, $x\in{\mathbb R}^n$, and $w_α(x)=1$ otherwise, where $α>-1$. Here we use some refined atomic decomposition argument as well as an appropriate wavelet representation in corresponding (unweighted) Besov spaces. The second main outcome is the description of the real interpolation space $(B^{s_1}_{p_1,p_1}({\mathbb R}^{n-k}), B^{s_2}_{p_2,p_2}({\mathbb R}^{n-k}))_{θ,r…
We introduce a construction of multiscale tight frames on general domains. The frame elements are obtained by spectral filtering of the integral operator associated with a reproducing kernel. Our construction extends classical wavelets as well as generalized wavelets on both continuous and discrete non-Euclidean structures such as Riemannian manifolds and weighted graphs. Moreover, it allows to study the relation between continuous and discrete frames in a random sampling regime, where discrete frames can be seen as Monte Carlo estimates of the continuous ones. Pairing spectral regularization …
Matrix-Weighted Besov-Triebel-Lizorkin Spaces of Optimal Scale: Real-Variable Characterizations, Invariance on Integrable Index, and Sobolev-Type Embedding
This paper is concerned with the study of Besov-type decomposition spaces, which are scales of spaces associated to suitably defined coverings of the euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^d$, or suitable open subsets thereof. A fundamental problem in this domain, that is currently not well understood, is deciding when two different coverings give rise to the same scale of decomposition spaces. In this paper, we establish a coarse geometric approach to this problem, and show how it specializes for the case of wavelet coorbit spaces associated to a particular class of matrix groups $H < GL(\mathbb{R}^d)$ …
