In the basic representation of $U_q(\hat{sl}(2))$ realized via the algebra of symmetric functions we compare the canonical basis with the basis of Macdonald polynomials with $q=t^2$. We show that the Macdonald polynomials are invariant with respect to the bar involution defined abstractly on the representations of quantum groups. We also prove that the Macdonald scalar product coincides with the abstract Kashiwara form. This implies, in particular, that the Macdonald polynomials form an intermediate basis between the canonical basis and the dual canonical basis, and the coefficients of the transition matrix are necessarily bar invariant. We also discuss the positivity and integrality of these coefficients. For level $k$, we expect a similar relation between the canonical basis and Macdonald polynomials with $q^2=t^{k}.$
We show that the action of classical operators associated to the Macdonald polynomials on the basis of Schur functions, S_λ[X(t-1)/(q-1)], can be reduced to addition in λ-rings. This provides explicit formulas for the Macdonald polynomials expanded in this basis as well as in the ordinary Schur basis, S_λ[X], and the monomial basis, m_λ[X].
The Macdonald polynomials expanded in terms of a modified Schur function basis have coefficients called the $q,t$-Kostka polynomials. We define operators to build standard tableaux and show that they are equivalent to creation operators that recursively build the Macdonald polynomials indexed by two part partitions. We uncover a new basis for these particular Macdonald polynomials and in doing so are able to give an explicit description of their associated $q,t$-Kostka coefficients by assigning a statistic in $q$ and $t$ to each standard tableau.
We consider products of two Macdonald polynomials of type A, indexed by dominant weights which are respectively a multiple of the first fundamental weight and a weight having zero component on the k-th fundamental weight. We give the explicit decomposition of any Macdonald polynomial of type A in terms of this basis.
We establish a previously conjectured connection between $p$-adics and quantum groups. We find in Sklyanin's two parameter elliptic quantum algebra and its generalizations, the conceptual basis for the Macdonald polynomials, which ``interpolate'' between the zonal spherical functions of related real and $p$\--adic symmetric spaces. The elliptic quantum algebras underlie the $Z_n$\--Baxter models. We show that in the $n \air \infty$ limit, the Jost function for the scattering of {\em first} level excitations in the $Z_n$\--Baxter model coincides with the Harish\--Chandra\--like $c$\--function c…
We introduce a unital associative algebra A over degenerate CP^1. We show that A is a commutative algebra and whose Poincar'e series is given by the number of partitions. Thereby we can regard A as a smooth degeneration limit of the elliptic algebra introduced by one of the authors and Odesskii. Then we study the commutative family of the Macdonald difference operators acting on the space of symmetric functions. A canonical basis is proposed for this family by using A and the Heisenberg representation of the commutative family studied by one of the authors. It is found that the Ding-Iohara alg…
We consider the coincident root loci consisting of the polynomials with at least two double roots andpresent a linear basis of the corresponding ideal in the algebra of symmetric polynomials in terms of the Jack polynomials with special value of parameter $α= -2.$ As a corollary we present an explicit formula for the Hilbert-Poincarè series of this ideal and the generator of the minimal degree as a special Jack polynomial. A generalization to the case of the symmetric polynomials vanishing on the double shifted diagonals and the Macdonald polynomials specialized at $t^2 q = 1$ is also presente…
We establish a connection between a specialization of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials and the Demazure characters of the corresponding affine Kac-Moody algebra. This allows us to obtain a representation-theoretical interpretation of the coefficients of the expansion of the specialized symmetric Macdonald polynomials in the basis formed by the irreducible characters of the associated finite Lie algebra.
In this paper, we give a combinatorial realization of the crystal basis of a quantum Weyl module over a quantum affine algebra of type $A_{2n}^{(2)}$, and a representation-theoretic interpretation of the specialization $P_λ^{A_{2n}^{(2)}} (q,0)$ of the symmetric Macdonald polynomial $P_λ^{A_{2n}^{(2)}} (q,t)$ at $t=0$, where $λ$ is a dominant weight and $P_λ^{A_{2n}^{(2)}}(q,t)$ denotes the specific specialization of the symmetric Macdonald-Koornwinder polynomial $P_λ(q,t_1, t_2, t_3, t_4, t_5)$. More precisely, as some results for untwisted affine types, the set of all ($A_{2n}^{(2)}$-type) q…
We give a new representation-theoretic proof of the branching rule for Macdonald polynomials using the Etingof-Kirillov Jr. expression for Macdonald polynomials as traces of intertwiners of U_q(gl_n). In the Gelfand-Tsetlin basis, we show that diagonal matrix elements of such intertwiners are given by application of Macdonald's operators to a simple kernel. An essential ingredient in the proof is a map between spherical parts of double affine Hecke algebras of different ranks based upon the Dunkl-Kasatani conjecture.
This work studies the remarkable relationships that hold among certain m-tuples of the Garsia-Haiman modules $ {\bf M}_μ$ and corresponding elements of the Macdonald basis. We recall that ${\bf M}_μ$ is defined for a partition $μ\part n$, as the linear span of derivatives of a certain bihomogeneous polynomial $Δ_ μ(x,y)$ in the variables $x_1,x_2,..., x_n, y_1,y_2,..., y_n$. It has been conjectured by Garsia and Haiman that ${\bf M}_μ$ has $n!$ dimensions and that its bigraded Frobenius characteristic is given by the symmetric polynomial ${\widetilde{H}}_μ(x;q,t)=\sum_{λ\part n} S_λ(X) {\widet…
Let $Λ$ be the space of symmetric functions and $V_k$ be the subspace spanned by the modified Schur functions $\{S_λ[X/(1-t)]\}_{λ_1\leq k}$. We introduce a new family of symmetric polynomials, $\{A_λ^{(k)}[X;t]\}_{λ_1\leq k}$, constructed from sums of tableaux using the charge statistic. We conjecture that the polynomials $A_λ^{(k)}[X;t]$ form a basis for $V_k$ and that the Macdonald polynomials indexed by partitions whose first part is not larger than $k$ expand positively in terms of our polynomials. A proof of this conjecture would not only imply the Macdonald positivity conjecture, but wo…
Dunkl operators are differential-difference operators on $\b R^N$ which generalize partial derivatives. They lead to generalizations of Laplace operators, Fourier transforms, heat semigroups, Hermite polynomials, and so on. In this paper we introduce two systems of biorthogonal polynomials with respect to Dunkl's Gaussian distributions in a quite canonical way. These systems, called Appell systems, admit many properties known from classical Hermite polynomials, and turn out to be useful for the analysis of Dunkl's Gaussian distributions. In particular, these polynomials lead to a new proof of …
The level-$1$ integrable highest weight modules of $U_q(\widehat{sl}_2)$ admit a level-$0$ action of the same algebra. This action is defined using the affine Hecke algebra and the basis of the level-$1$ module generated by components of vertex operators. Each level-$1$ module is a direct sum of finite-dimensional irreducible level-$0$ modules, whose highest weight vector is expressed in terms of Macdonald polynomials. This decomposition leads to the fermionic character formula for the level-$1$ modules.
For each pair (k,r) of positive integers with r>1, we consider an ideal I^(k,r)_n of the ring of symmetric polynomials in n variables. The ideal I_n^(k,r) has a basis consisting of Macdonald polynomials P(x_1,...,x_n;q,t) at t^{k+1}q^{r-1}=1, and is a deformed version of the one studied earlier in the context of Jack polynomials. In this paper we give a characterization of I^(k,r)_n in terms of explicit zero conditions on the k-codimensional shifted diagonals of the form x_{2}=tq^{s_1}x_1,...,x_{k+1}=tq^{s_k}x_k. The ideal I^(k,r)_n may be viewed as a deformation of the space of correlation fu…
In this paper, we give a characterization of the crystal bases $\mathcal{B}_{x}^{+}(λ)$, $x \in W_{\mathrm{af}}$, of Demazure submodules $V_{x}^{+}(λ)$, $x \in W_{\mathrm{af}}$, of a level-zero extremal weight module $V(λ)$ over a quantum affine algebra $U_{q}$, where $λ$ is an arbitrary level-zero dominant integral weight, and $W_{\mathrm{af}}$ denotes the affine Weyl group. This characterization is given in terms of the initial direction of a semi-infinite Lakshmibai-Seshadri path, and is established under a suitably normalized isomorphism between the crystal basis $\mathcal{B}(λ)$ of the le…
We continue our study of the AGT correspondence between instanton counting on C^2/Z_p and Conformal field theories with the symmetry algebra A(r,p). In the cases r=1, p=2 and r=2, p=2 this algebra specialized to: A(1,2)=H+sl(2)_1 and A(2,2)=H+sl(2)_2+NSR. As the main tool we use a new construction of the algebra A(r,2) as the limit of the toroidal gl(1) algebra for q,t tend to -1. We claim that the basis of the representation of the algebra A(r,2) (or equivalently, of the space of the local fields of the corresponding CFT) can be expressed through Macdonald polynomials with the parameters q,t …
Let Sym denote the algebra of symmetric functions and $P_μ(\,\cdot\,;q,t)$ and $Q_μ(\,\cdot\,;q,t)$ be the Macdonald symmetric functions (recall that they differ by scalar factors only). The $(q,t)$-Cauchy identity $$ \sum_μP_μ(x_1,x_2,\dots;q,t)Q_μ(y_1,y_2,\dots;q,t)=\prod_{i,j=1}^\infty\frac{(x_iy_jt;q)_\infty}{(x_iy_j;q)_\infty} $$ expresses the fact that the $P_μ(\,\cdot\,;q,t)$'s form an orthogonal basis in Sym with respect to a special scalar product $\langle\,\cdot\,,\,\cdot\,\rangle_{q,t}$. The present paper deals with the inhomogeneous \emph{interpolation} Macdonald symmetric function…
We use Kang-Misra's combinatorial description of the crystal graphs for $U_{q}(G_{2})$ to introduce the plactic monoid for type $G_{2}$. Then we describe the corresponding insertion algorithm which yields a Schensted type correspondence. Next we give a simple algorithm for computing the canonical basis of any finite dimensional $U_{q}(G_{2})$-module.
Let U_q be the quantum group associated to a Lie algebra g of rank n. The negative part U^- of U has a canonical basis B with favourable properties, introduced by Kashiwara and Lusztig. The approaches of Kashiwara and Lusztig lead to a set of alternative parametrizations of the canonical basis, one for each reduced expression for the longest word in the Weyl group of g. We show that if g is of type A_4 there are close relationships between the Lusztig cones, canonical basis elements and the regions of linearity of reparametrization functions arising from the above parametrizations. A graph can…
Let U be the quantum group associated to a Lie algebra g of rank n. We describe the authors' recent work establishing close relationships between the Lusztig cones, canonical basis elements and the regions of linearity of reparametrization functions arising from the above parametrizations in type…
The canonical basis for quantized universal enveloping algebras associated to the finite--dimensional simple Lie algebras, was introduced by Lusztig. The principal technique is the explicit construction (via the braid group action) of a lattice over $\bz[q^{-1}]$. This allows the algebraic characterization of the canonical basis as a certain bar-invariant basis of $\cl$. Here we present a similar algebraic characterization of the affine canonical basis. Our construction is complicated by the need to introduce basis elements to span the ``imaginary'' subalgebra which is fixed by the affine brai…
All the 62 monomial elements in the canonical basis B of the quantized enveloping algebra for type $A_4$ have been determined in [2]. According to Lusztig's idea [7], the elements in the canonical basis B consist of monomials and linear combinations of monomials (for convenience, we call them polynomials). In this note, we compute all the 144 polynomial elements in one variable in the canonical basis B of the quantized enveloping algebra for type $A_4$ based on our joint note [2]. We conjecture that there are other polynomial elements in two or three variables in the canonical basis B, which i…
We give a geometric interpretation of the inner product on the modified quantum group of $\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}_n$. We also give some applications of this interpretation, including a positivity result for the inner product, and a new geometric construction of the canonical basis.
A unipotent triangular relationship is established between the dual standard monomial theoretic basis and canonical basis for the negative part of the quantized universal enveloping algebra of type A.
In this paper we show that there is a link between the combinatorics of the canonical basis of a quantized enveloping algebra and the monomial bases of the second author arising from representations of quivers. We prove that some reparametrization functions of the canonical basis, arising from the link between Lusztig's approach to the canonical basis and the string parametrization of the canonical basis, are given on a large region of linearity by linear functions arising from these monomial basis for a quantized enveloping algebra.
In this largely expository article we present an elementary construction of Lusztig's canonical basis in type ADE. The method, which is essentially Lusztig's original approach, is to use the braid group to reduce to rank two calculations. Some of the wonderful properties of the canonical basis are already visible; that it descends to a basis for every highest weight integrable representation, and that it is a crystal basis.
In a categorification of tensor products of fundamental representations of quantum sl(k) via highest weight categories, the indecomposable tilting modules descend to the canonical basis. Since projective functors map tilting modules to tilting modules, the coefficients of the canonical basis of tensor products of finite dimensional, irreducible representations under the action of the Chevalley generators are positive.
An algorithm is described to compute the canonical basis of an irreducible module over a quantized enveloping algebra of a finite-dimensional semisimple Lie algebra. The algorithm works for modules that are constructed as a submodule of a tensor product of modules with known canonical bases.
Following Kashiwara's algebraic approach, we construct crystal bases and canonical bases for quantum supergroups with no isotropic odd roots and for their integrable modules.
The dual basis of the canonical basis of the modified quantized enveloping algebra is studied, in particular for type $A$. The construction of a basis for the coordinate algebra of the $n\times n$ quantum matrices is appropriate for the study the multiplicative property. It is shown that this basis is invariant under multiplication by certain quantum minors including the quantum determinant. Then a basis of quantum SL(n) is obtained by setting the quantum determinant to one. This basis turns out to be equivalent to the dual canonical basis.
We prove the tensor product decomposition of the half of quantized universal enveloping algebra associated with a Weyl group element which was conjectured by Berenstein and Greenstein.
Using the isomorphism between highest weight U_q(sl_2)-modules and homologies of certain local systems on the configuration spaces, constructed by Varchenko, we give a geometric construction of the dual of the Lusztig's canonical basis in a tensor product of irreducible finite-dimensional U_q(sl_2)-modules.
We introduce a modified quantum enveloping algebra as well as a (modified) covering quantum algebra for the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebra osp(1|2). Then we formulate and compute the corresponding canonical bases, and relate them to the counterpart for sl(2). This provides a first example of canonical basis for quantum superalgebras.
A string basis is constructed for each subalgebra of invariants of the function algebra on the quantum special linear group. By analyzing the string basis for a particular subalgebra of invariants, we obtain a ``canonical basis'' for every finite dimensional irreducible $U_q({\mathfrak{sl}}(n))$-module. It is also shown that the algebra of functions on any quantum homogeneous space is generated by quantum minors.
We construct a canonical basis for quantum generalized Kac-Moody algebra via semisimple perverse sheaves on varieties of representations of quivers. We compare this basis with the one recently defined purely algebraically by Jeong, Kang and Kashiwara.
The first goal of this paper is to study the amount of compatibility between two important constructions in the theory of quantized enveloping algebras, namely the canonical basis and the quantum Frobenius morphism. The second goal is to study orders with which the Kashiwara crystal B(infinity) of a symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra can be endowed; these orders are defined so that the transition matrices between bases naturally indexed by B(infinity) are lower triangular.
Let $n$ be the maximal nilpotent subalgebra of a simple complex Lie algebra $g$. We introduce the notion of imaginary vector in the dual canonical basis of $U_q(n)$, and we give examples of such vectors for types $A_n (n\ge 5)$, $B_n (n\ge 3)$, $C_n (n\ge 3)$, $D_n (n\ge 4)$, and all exceptional types. This disproves a conjecture of Berenstein and Zelevinsky about $q$-commuting products of vectors of the dual canonical basis. It also shows the existence of finite-dimensional irreducible representations of quantum affine algebras whose tensor square is not irreducible.
We compute the indecomposable objects of \dot{U}^+_3 - the category that categorifies the positive half of the quantum sl_3, and we decompose an arbitrary object into indecomposable ones. On decategorified level we obtain the Lusztig's canonical basis of the positive half U^+_q(sl_3) of the quantum sl_3. We also categorify the higher quantum Serre relations in U_q^+(sl_3), by defining a certain complex in the homotopy category of $\dot{U}^+_3$ that is homotopic to zero. We work with the category $\dot{U}^+_3$ that is defined over the ring of integers. This paper is based on the (extended) diag…
In this paper we show that the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials (and, more generally, parabolic KL polynomials) for the group $S_n$ coincide with the coefficients of the canonical basis in $n$th tensor power of the fundamental representation of the quantum group $U_q sl_k$. We also use known results about canonical bases for $U_q sl_2$ to get a new proof of recurrent formulas for KL polynomials for maximal parabolic subgroups (geometrically, this case corresponds to Grassmanians), due to Lascoux-Schutzenberger and Zelevinsky.
We investigate the affine canonical basis and the monomial basis constructed in [LXZ] in Lusztig's geometric setting. We show that the transition matrix between the two bases is upper triangular with 1's in the diagonal and coefficients in the upper diagonal entries in N[v, v^{-1}]. As a consequence, we show that part of the monomial basis elements give rise to resolutions of support varieties of the affine canonical basis elements as simple perverse sheaves.
We introduce the language of multiplier Hopf algebra in the context of positive representations of split real quantum groups, and discuss its applications with a continuous version of Lusztig-Kashiwara's canonical basis, which may provide a key to prove the closure of the positive representations under tensor products, and harmonic analysis of quantized algebra of functions in the sense of locally compact quantum groups.
The article concerns the dual of Lusztig's canonical basis of a subalgebra of the positive part U_q(n) of the universal enveloping algebra of a Kac-Moody Lie algebra of type A_1^{(1)}. The examined subalgebra is associated with a terminal module M over the path algebra of the Kronecker quiver via an Weyl group element w of length four. Geiss-Leclerc-Schroeer attached to M a category C_M of nilpotent modules over the preprojective algebra of the Kronecker quiver together with an acyclic cluster algebra A(C_M). The dual semicanonical basis contains all cluster monomials. By construction, the clu…
We establish the existence of an IC basis for the generalized Temperley--Lieb algebra associated to a Coxeter system of arbitrary type. We determine this basis explicitly in the case where the Coxeter system is simply laced and the algebra is finite dimensional.
We show the positivity of the canonical basis for a modified quantum affine $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ under the comultiplication. Moreover, we establish the positivity of the i-canonical basis in [LW15] with respect to the coideal subalgebra structure.
An integral PBW-basis of type $A_1^{(1)}$ has been constructed by Zhang [Z] and Chen [C] using the Auslander-Reiten quiver of the Kronecker quiver. We associate a geometric order to elements in this basis following an idea of Lusztig [L1] in the case of finite type. This leads to an algebraic realization of a bar-invariant basis of $\uq2$. For any affine symmetric type, we obtain an integral PBW-basis of the generic composition algebra, by using an algebraic construction of the integral basis for a tube in [DDX], an embedding of the module category of the Kronecker quiver into the module categ…
We define a canonical basis of the $q$-deformed Fock space representation of the affine Lie algebra $\glchap_n$. We conjecture that the entries of the transition matrix between this basis and the natural basis of the Fock space are $q$-analogues of decomposition numbers of the $v$-Schur algebras for $v$ specialized to a $n$th root of unity.
Geiss-Leclerc-Schroer defined the cluster algebra structure on the coordinate ring $C[N(w)]$ of the unipotent subgroup, associated with a Weyl group element $w$ and they proved cluster monomials are contained in Lusztig's dual semicanonical basis $S^{*}$. We give a set up for the quantization of their results and propose a conjecture which relates the quantum cluster algebras to the dual canonical basis ${B}^{up}$. In particular, we prove that the quantum analogue $O_{q}[N(w)]$ of ${C}[N(w)]$ has the induced basis from ${B}^{up}$, which contains quantum flag minors and satisfies a factorizatio…
This paper addresses the decomposition number problem for spin representations of symmetric groups in odd characteristic. Our main aim is to find a combinatorial formula for decomposition numbers in blocks of defect $2$, analogous to Richards's formula for defect $2$ blocks of symmetric groups. By developing a suitable analogue of the combinatorics used by Richards, we find a formula for the corresponding "$q$-decomposition numbers", i.e.\ the canonical basis coefficients in the level-$1$ $q$-deformed Fock space of type $A^{(2)}_{2n}$; a special case of a conjecture of Leclerc and Thibon asser…
A symmetric bilinear form on a certain subspace $\widehat{\mathbb T}^{\bf b}$ of a completion of the Fock space $\mathbb T^{\bf b}$ is defined. The canonical and dual canonical bases of $\widehat{\mathbb T}^{\bf b}$ are dual with respect to the bilinear form. As a consequence, the inversion formula connecting the coefficients of the canonical basis and that of the dual canonical basis of $\widehat{\mathbb T}^{\bf b}$ expanded in terms of the standard monomial basis of $\mathbb T^{\bf b}$ is obtained. Combining with the Brundan's algorithm for computing the elements in the canonical basis of $\…
We compare two natural bases for the invariant space of a tensor product of irreducible representations of A_2, or sl(3). One basis is the web basis, defined from a skein theory called the combinatorial A_2 spider. The other basis is the dual canonical basis, the dual of the basis defined by Lusztig and Kashiwara. For sl(2) or A_1, the web bases have been discovered many times and were recently shown to be dual canonical by Frenkel and Khovanov. We prove that for sl(3), the two bases eventually diverge even though they agree in many small cases. The first disagreement comes in the invariant sp…
