Let U_q be the quantum group associated to a Lie algebra g of rank n. The negative part U^- of U has a canonical basis B with favourable properties, introduced by Kashiwara and Lusztig. The approaches of Kashiwara and Lusztig lead to a set of alternative parametrizations of the canonical basis, one for each reduced expression for the longest word in the Weyl group of g. We show that if g is of type A_4 there are close relationships between the Lusztig cones, canonical basis elements and the regions of linearity of reparametrization functions arising from the above parametrizations. A graph can be defined on the set of simplicial regions of linearity with respect to adjacency, and we further show that this graph is isomorphic to the graph with vertices given by the reduced expressions of the longest word of the Weyl group modulo commutation and edges given by long braid relations.

We show that for each reduced expression for the longest word in the Weyl group of type A_n, the corresponding cone arising in Lusztig's description of the canonical basis in terms of tight monomials is simplicial, and construct explicit spanning vectors.
Let U be the quantum group associated to a Lie algebra of type A_n. The negative part U^- of U has a canonical basis B defined by Lusztig and Kashiwara, with favourable properties. We show how the spanning vectors of the cones defined by Lusztig when regarded as monomials in Kashiwara's root operators, can be described using a remarkable rectangle combinatorics. We use this to calculate the Lusztig parameters of the corresponding canonical basis elements, conjecturing that translates of these vectors span the simplicial regions of linearity of Lusztig's piecewise-linear function. Let $\mathbf{U}$ be the quantized enveloping algebra and $\dot{\mathbf{U}}$ its modified form. Lusztig gives some symmetries on $\mathbf{U}$ and $\dot{\mathbf{U}}$. Since the realization of $\mathbf{U}$ by the reduced Drinfeld double of the Ringel-Hall algebra, one can apply the BGP-reflection functors to the double Ringel-Hall algebra to obtain Lusztig's symmetries on $\mathbf{U}$ and their important properties, for instance, the braid relations. In this paper, we define a modified form $\dot{\mathcal{H}}$ of the Ringel-Hall algebra and realize the Lusztig's symmetries on $\dot{\mathbf{U}}$ b…
We give a systematic description of many monomial bases for a given quantized enveloping algebra and of many integral monomial bases for the associated Lusztig $\mathbb Z[v,v^{-1}]$-form. The relations between monomial bases, PBW bases and canonical bases are also discussed.
The modified quantized enveloping algebra $\dot{\mathbf{U}}$ has a remarkable canonical basis, which was introduced by Lusztig. In this paper, we give an explicit description of all elements of the canonical basis of $\dot{\mathbf{U}}$ for type $A_{2}$.
Kashiwara and Saito have defined a crystal structure on the set of irreducible components of Lusztig's quiver varieties. This gives a geometric realization of the crystal graph of the lower half of the quantum group associated to a simply-laced Kac-Moody algebra. Using an enumeration of the irreducible components of Lusztig's quiver varieties in finite and affine type A by combinatorial data, we compute the geometrically defined crystal structure in terms of this combinatorics. We conclude by comparing the combinatorial realization of the crystal graph thus obtained with other combinatorial mo…
In this paper we show that there is a link between the combinatorics of the canonical basis of a quantized enveloping algebra and the monomial bases of the second author arising from representations of quivers. We prove that some reparametrization functions of the canonical basis, arising from the link between Lusztig's approach to the canonical basis and the string parametrization of the canonical basis, are given on a large region of linearity by linear functions arising from these monomial basis for a quantized enveloping algebra.
For a quantized enveloping algebra of a complex semisimple Lie algebra with deformation parameter not a root of unity, we classify all homogeneous right coideal subalgebras. Any such right coideal subalgebra is determined uniquely by a triple consisting of two elements of the Weyl group and a subset of the set of simple roots satisfying some natural conditions. The essential ingredients of the proof are the Lusztig automorphisms and the classification of homogeneous right coideal subalgebras of the Borel Hopf subalgebras of quantized enveloping algebras obtained previously by H.-J. Schneider a…
We obtain a presentation of quantum Schur algebras (over the field Q(v)) by generators and relations. This presentation is compatible with the usual presentation of the quantized universal enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra gl(2). We also locate the ``integral'' form of the quantum Schur algebra within the presented algebra and show it has a basis which is closely related to Lusztig's basis of the integral form of the quantized enveloping algebra.
We study the Hopf algebra structure of Lusztig's quantum groups. First we show that the zero part is the tensor product of the group algebra of a finite abelian group with the enveloping algebra of an abelian Lie algebra. Second we build them from the plus, minus and zero parts by means of suitable actions and coactions within the formalism presented by Sommerhauser to describe triangular decompositions.
We construct braid group actions on coideal subalgebras of quantized enveloping algebras which appear in the theory of quantum symmetric pairs. In particular, we construct an action of the semidirect product of Z^n and the classical braid group in n strands on the coideal subalgebra corresponding to the symmetric pair (sl_{2n}(C), sp_{2n}(C)). This proves a conjecture by Molev and Ragoucy. We expect similar actions to exist for all symmetric Lie algebras. The given actions are inspired by Lusztig's braid group action on quantized enveloping algebras and are defined explicitly on generators. Br…
The negative part $U^-$ of a quantised enveloping algebra associated to a simple Lie algebra possesses a canonical basis $\mathcal{B}$ with favourable properties. Lusztig has associated a cone to a reduced expression $\mathbf{i}$ for the longest element $w_0$ in the Weyl group of $\mathfrak{g}$, with good properties with respect to monomial elements of $\mathcal{B}$. The first author has associated a subalgebra $A_{\mathbf{i}}$ of $U^-$, compatible with the dual basis $\mathcal{B}^*$, to each reduced expression $\mathbf{i}$. We show that, after a certain twisting, the string parametrisation of…
Let U be the quantum group associated to a Lie algebra g of rank n. We describe the authors' recent work establishing close relationships between the Lusztig cones, canonical basis elements and the regions of linearity of reparametrization functions arising from the above parametrizations in type…
Let $\g$ be an affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra. Let $\U^+$ be the positive part of the Drinfeld-Jimbo quantum enveloping algebra associated to $\g$. We construct a basis of $\U^+$ which is related to the Kashiwara-Lusztig global crystal basis (or canonical basis) by an upper triangular matrix (with respect to an explicitly defined ordering) with 1's on the diagonal and with above diagonal entries in $q_s^{-1} \Z[q_s^{-1}]$. Using this construction we study the global crystal basis $\B(\Um)$ of the modified quantum enveloping algebra defined by Lusztig. We obtain a Peter-Weyl like decomposition of…
For a finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebra and a root of unity, Lusztig defined an infinite dimensional quantum group of divided powers. Under certain restrictions on the order of the root of unity, he constructed a Frobenius homomorphism with finite dimensional Hopf kernel and with image the universal enveloping algebra. In this article we define and describe the Frobenius homomorphism for arbitrary roots of unity by systematically using the theory of Nichols algebras. In several new exceptional cases the Frobenius-Lusztig kernel is associated to a different Lie algebra than the initial …
We obtain a presentation by generators and relations for generalized Schur algebras and their quantizations. This extends earlier results obtained in the type A case. The presentation is compatible with Lusztig's modified form of a quantized enveloping algebra. We show that generalized Schur algebras inherit a canonical basis from the modified form of the quantized enveloping algebra, that this gives them a cellular structure, and thus they are quasihereditary over a field.
For symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebra $\textbf{g}$, Lusztig introduced the modified quantized enveloping algebra $\dot{\textbf{U}}(\textbf{g})$ and its canonical basis in [12]. In this paper, for finite and affine type symmetric Lie algebra $\textbf{g}$ we define a set which depend only on the root category and prove that there is a bijection between the set and the canonical basis of $\dot{\textbf{U}}(\textbf{g})$, where the root category is the $T^2$-orbit category of the derived category of Dynkin or tame quiver. Our method bases on one theorem of Lin, Xiao and Zhang in [9], which gave th…
Let $ \mathfrak{g} $ be an untwisted affine Kac-Moody algebra over the field $ K \, $, and let $ U_q(\mathfrak{g}) $ be the associated quantum enveloping algebra; let $ \mathfrak{U}_q(g) $ be the Lusztig's integer form of $ U_q(\mathfrak{g}) \, $, generated by $ q $-divided powers of Chevalley generators over a suitable subring $ R $ of $ K(q) \, $. We prove a Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt like theorem for $ \mathfrak{U}_q(\mathfrak{g}) \, $, yielding a basis over $ R $ made of ordered products of $ q $-divided powers of suitable quantum root vectors.
We describe the prime and primitive spectra for quantized enveloping algebras at roots of 1 in characteristic zero in terms of the prime spectrum of the underlying enveloping algebra. For primitive ideals we obtain an analogue of Duflo's Theorem, which says that every primitive ideal is the annihilator of a simple highest weight module. This depends on an extension of Lusztig's tensor product theorem.
In the structure theory of quantized enveloping algebras, the algebra isomorphisms determined by Lusztig led to the first general construction of PBW bases of these algebras. Also, they have important applications to the representation theory of these and related algebras. In the present paper the Drinfel'd double for a class of graded Hopf algebras is investigated. Various quantum algebras, including multiparameter quantizations of semisimple Lie algebras and of Lie superalgebras, are covered by the given definition. For these Drinfel'd doubles Lusztig maps are defined. It is shown that these…
Using methods of homological algebra, we obtain an explicit crystal isomorphism between two realizations of crystal bases of the lower part of the quantized enveloping algebra of (almost all) finite dimensional simply-laced Lie algebras. The first realization we consider is a geometric construction in terms of irreducible components of certain quiver varieties established by Kashiwara and Saito. The second is a realization in terms of isomorphism classes of quiver representations obtained by Reineke using Ringel's Hall algebra approach to quantum groups. We show that these two constructions ar…
The Shapovalov determinant for a class of pointed Hopf algebras is calculated, including quantized enveloping algebras, Lusztig's small quantum groups, and quantized Lie superalgebras. Our main tools are root systems, Weyl groupoids, and Lusztig type isomorphisms. We elaborate powerful novel techniques for the algebras at roots of unity, and pass to the general case using a density argument. Key words: Hopf algebra, Nichols algebra, quantum group, representation
We categorify Lusztig's version of the quantized enveloping algebra for sl(2). Using a graphical calculus a 2-category is constructed whose split Grothendieck ring is isomorphic to Lusztig's algebra. The indecomposable morphisms of this 2-category lift Lusztig's canonical basis, and the Homs between 1-morphisms are graded lifts of a semilinear form defined on quantum sl(2). Graded lifts of various homomorphisms and antihomomorphisms of Lusztig's algebra arise naturally in the context of our graphical calculus. Using iterated flag varieties, a representation of the 2-category is constructed for…
Given a quantized enveloping algebra $U_q(\mathfrak g)$ and a pair of dominant weights ($λ$, $μ$), we extend a conjecture raised by Lusztig in \cite{Lusztig:1992}to a more general form and then prove this extended Lusztig's conjecture. Namely we prove that for any symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra $\mathfrak g$, there is a composition series of the $U_q(\mathfrak g)$-module $V(λ)\otimes V(μ)$ compatible with the canonical basis. As a byproduct, the celebrated Littlewood-Richardson rule is derived and we also construct, in the same manner, a composition series of $V(λ)\otimes V(-μ)$ compatible wi…
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a finite dimensional complex simple Lie algebra, $\mathbb{K}$ a commutative field and $q$ a nonzero element of $\mathbb{K}$ which is not a root of unity. To each reduced decomposition of the longest element $w_0$ of the Weyl group $W$ corresponds a PBW basis of the quantised enveloping algebra $\mathcal{U}_q^+(\mathfrak{g})$, and one can apply the theory of deleting-derivation to this iterated Ore extension. In particular, for each decomposition of $w_0$, this theory constructs a bijection between the set of prime ideals in $\mathcal{U}_q^+(\mathfrak{g})$ that are invaria…
In the present article, a basis of the coordinate algebra of the multi-parameter quantized matrix is constructed by using an elementary method due to Lusztig. The construction depends heavily on an anti-automorphism, the bar action. The exponential nature of the bar action is derived which provides an inductive way to compute the basis elements. By embedding the basis into the dual basis of Lusztig's canonical basis of $U_q(n^-)$, the positivity properties of the basis as well as the positivity properties of the canonical basis of the modified quantum enveloping algebra of type $A$, which has …
Given any symmetric Cartan datum, Lusztig has provided a pair of key lemmas to construct the perverse sheaves over the corresponding quiver and the functions of irreducible components over the corresponding preprojective algebra respectively. In the present article, we prove that these two inductive algorithms of Lusztig coincide. Consequently we can define two colored graphs and prove that they are isomorhic. This result finishes the statement that Lusztig's functions of irreducible components are basis of the enveloping algebra and deduces the crystal structure (in the sense of Kashiwara-Sai…
Let ${\mathbf U}^-_q$ be the negative part of the quantized enveloping algebra associated to a Kac-Moody algebra ${\mathfrak g}$ of symmetric type, and $\underline{\mathbf U}^-_q$ the algebra corresponding to the orbit algebra ${\mathfrak g}^σ$ obtained from an admissible diagram automorphism $σ$ on ${\mathfrak g}$. Lusztig consructed the canonical basis ${\mathbf B}$ of ${\mathbf U}_q^-$ and the canonical signed basis $\underline{\widetilde{\mathbf B}}$ of $\underline{\mathbf U}_q^-$ by making use of the geometric theory of quivers. He proved that there is a natural bijection $\widetilde{\mat…
We realize the crystal associated to the quantized enveloping algebras with a symmetric generalized Cartan matrix as a set of Lagrangian subvarieties of the cotangent bundle of the quiver variety. As a by-product, we give a counterexample to the conjecture of Kazhdan--Lusztig on the irreducibility of the characteristic variety of the intersection cohomology sheaves associated with the Schubert cells of type A and also to the similar problem asked by Lusztig on the characteristic variety of the perverse sheaves corresponding to canonical bases.
Let $U_ζ$ be a Lusztig quantum enveloping algebra associated to a complex semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ and a root of unity $ζ$. When $L,L'$ are irreducible $U_ζ$-modules having regular highest weights, the dimension of $\operatorname{Ext}^n_{U_ζ}(L,L')$ can be calculated in terms of the coefficients of appropriate Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials associated to the affine Weyl group of $U_ζ$. This paper shows for $L,L'$ irreducible modules in a singular block that $\dim\operatorname{Ext}^n_{U_ζ}(L,L')$ is explicitly determined using the coefficients of parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. …
We study the algebra $U_ζ$ obtained via Lusztig's `integral' form [Lu 1, 2] of the generic quantum algebra for the Lie algebra $\frak {g=sl}_2$ modulo the two-sided ideal generated by $K^l-1$. We show that $U_ζ$ is a smash product of the quantum deformation of the restricted universal enveloping algebra $\bold u_ζ$ of $\frak g$ and the ordinary universal enveloping algebra $U$ of $\frak g$, and we compute the primitive (= prime) ideals of $\Uz$. Next we describe a decomposition of $\bold u_ζ$ into the simple $U$- submodules, which leads to an explicit formula for the center and the indecomposa…
We relate quantum degree cones, parametrizing PBW degenerations of quantized enveloping algebras, to (negative tight monomial) cones introduced by Lusztig in the study of monomials in canonical bases, to K-theoretic cones for quiver representations, and to some maximal prime cones in tropical flag varieties.
All the 62 monomial elements in the canonical basis B of the quantized enveloping algebra for type $A_4$ have been determined in [2]. According to Lusztig's idea [7], the elements in the canonical basis B consist of monomials and linear combinations of monomials (for convenience, we call them polynomials). In this note, we compute all the 144 polynomial elements in one variable in the canonical basis B of the quantized enveloping algebra for type $A_4$ based on our joint note [2]. We conjecture that there are other polynomial elements in two or three variables in the canonical basis B, which i…
Let Q be an affine quiver of type A. Let C be the associated generalized Cartan matrix. Let U^- be the negative part of the quantized enveloping algebra attached to C. In terms of perverse sheaves on the moduli space of representations of a quiver, Lusztig constructed U geometrically and gave a canonical basis B of U^- at the same time. The simple perverse sheaves which enter B are defined abstractly in general. In Lusztig's paper [L2], by using McKay's correspondence, he gave a description of these canonical basis elements in affine cases, i.e. specifying the corresponding supports and local …
A quantum symmetric pair is a quantization of the symmetric pair of universal enveloping algebras. Recent development suggests that most of the theory for quantum groups can be generalised to the setting of quantum symmetric pairs. In this paper, we study the $\imath$quantum group at roots of $1$. We generalize Lusztig's quantum Frobenius morphism in this new setting. We define the small $\imath$quantum group and compute its dimension.
Lusztig has constructed a Frobenius morphism for quantum groups at an $\ell$-th root of unity, which gives an integral lift of the Frobenius map on universal enveloping algebras in positive characteristic. Using the Hall algebra we give a simple construction of this map for the positive part of the quantum group attached to an arbitrary Cartan datum in the nondivisible case.
We introduce a new class of bases for quantized universal enveloping algebras $U_q(\mathfrak g)$ and other doubles attached to semisimple and Kac-Moody Lie algebras. These bases contain dual canonical bases of upper and lower halves of $U_q(\mathfrak g)$ and are invariant under many symmetries including all Lusztig's symmetries if $\mathfrak g$ is semisimple. It also turns out that a part of a double canonical basis of $U_q(\mathfrak g)$ spans its center.
We give a combinatorial construction for the canonical bases of the $\pm$-parts of the quantum enveloping superalgebra $\bfU(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$ and discuss their relationship with the Kazhdan-Lusztig bases for the quantum Schur superalgebras $\bsS(m|n,r)$ introduced in \cite{DR}. We will also extend this relationship to the induced bases for simple polynomial representations of $\bfU(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$.
Let U be the quantised enveloping algebra associated to a Cartan matrix of finite type. Let W be the tensor product of a finite list of highest weight representations of U. Then the centraliser algebra of W has a basis called the dual canonical basis which gives an integral form. We show that this integral form is cellular by using results due to Lusztig.
We show that the quantum Frobenius morphism constructed by Lusztig in the setting of the quantum enveloping algebra specialized at a root of unity admits a multiplicative splitting (non unital). We also find a basis of the toral part of the small quantum algebra consisting of pairwise orthogonal idempotents summing up to 1, and likewise in the modular case of the algebra of distributions for a semisimple algebraic group.
The article concerns the dual of Lusztig's canonical basis of a subalgebra of the positive part U_q(n) of the universal enveloping algebra of a Kac-Moody Lie algebra of type A_1^{(1)}. The examined subalgebra is associated with a terminal module M over the path algebra of the Kronecker quiver via an Weyl group element w of length four. Geiss-Leclerc-Schroeer attached to M a category C_M of nilpotent modules over the preprojective algebra of the Kronecker quiver together with an acyclic cluster algebra A(C_M). The dual semicanonical basis contains all cluster monomials. By construction, the clu…
We construct the quantized enveloping algebra of any simple Lie algebra of type ADE as the quotient of a Grothendieck ring arising from certain cyclic quiver varieties. In particular, the dual canonical basis of a one-half quantum group with respect to Lusztig's bilinear form is contained in the natural basis of the Grothendieck ring up to rescaling. This paper expands the categorification established by Hernandez and Leclerc to the whole quantum groups. It can be viewed as a geometric counterpart of Bridgeland's recent work for type ADE.
Let ${U}_q(sl_2)$ be the quantized enveloping algebra associated to the simple Lie algebra $sl_2$. In this paper, we study the quantum double $D_q$ of the Borel subalgebra ${U}_q((sl_2)^{\leq 0})$ of ${U}_q(sl_2)$. We construct an analogue of Kostant--Lusztig ${Z}[v,v^{-1}]$-form for $D_q$ and show that it is a Hopf subalgebra. We prove that, over an algebraically closed field, every simple $D_q$-module is the pullback of a simple ${U}_q(sl_2)$-module through certain surjection from $D_q$ onto ${U}_q(sl_2)$, and the category of finite dimensional weight $D_q$-modules is equivalent to a direct …
Let $\mathcal{B}_{\mathfrak{q}}$ be a finite-dimensional Nichols algebra of diagonal type corresponding to a matrix $\mathfrak{q} \in \mathbf{k}^{θ\times θ}$, where $\mathbf{k}$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. Let $\mathcal{L}_{\mathfrak{q}}$ be the Lusztig algebra associated to $\mathcal{B}_{\mathfrak{q}}$, see http://arxiv.org/abs/1501.04518. We present $\mathcal{L}_{\mathfrak{q}}$ as an extension (as braided Hopf algebras) of $\mathcal{B}_{\mathfrak{q}}$ by $\mathfrak Z_{\mathfrak{q}}$ where $\mathfrak Z_{\mathfrak{q}}$ is isomorphic to the universal enveloping algebra…
The canonical basis for quantized universal enveloping algebras associated to the finite--dimensional simple Lie algebras, was introduced by Lusztig. The principal technique is the explicit construction (via the braid group action) of a lattice over $\bz[q^{-1}]$. This allows the algebraic characterization of the canonical basis as a certain bar-invariant basis of $\cl$. Here we present a similar algebraic characterization of the affine canonical basis. Our construction is complicated by the need to introduce basis elements to span the ``imaginary'' subalgebra which is fixed by the affine brai…
Let ${\goth g}$ be a semi-simple complex Lie algebra, ${\goth g}={\goth n^-}\oplus{\goth h}\oplus{\goth n}$ its triangular decomposition. Let $U({\goth g})$, resp. $U_q({\goth g})$, be its enveloping algebra, resp. its quantized enveloping algebra. This article gives a quantum approach to the combinatorics of (classical) harmonic elements and Kostant's generalized exponents for ${\goth \g}$. On the one hand, we give specialization results concerning harmonic elements, central elements of $U_q({\goth g})$, and the Joseph and Letzter's decomposition. For ${\goth g}={\goth sl}_{n+1}$, we describe…
The quantum enveloping algebra of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ (and the quantum Schur algebras) was constructed by Beilinson-Lusztig-MacPherson as the convolution algebra of $GL_d$-invariant functions over the space of pairs of partial $n$-step flags over a finite field. In this paper we expand the construction to the mirabolic setting of triples of two partial flags and a vector, and examine the resulting convolution algebra. In the case of $n=2$, we classify the finite dimensional irreducible representations of the mirabolic quantum algebra and we prove that the category of such representations is semi…
In the paper, we further realize the higher rank quantized universal enveloping algebra $U_q(sl_{n+1})$ as certain quantum differential operators in $\mathcal W_q(2n)$ defined over the quantum divided power algebra $\mathcal{A}_q(n)$ of rank $n$. We give the quantum differential operators realization for both the simple root vectors and the non-simple root vectors of $U_q(sl_{n+1})$. The nice behavior of the quantum root vectors formulas under the action of the Lusztig symmetries once again indicates that our realization model is naturally matched.
Irreducible representations of quantum groups $SL_q(2)$ (in Woronowicz' approach) were classified in J.Wang, B.Parshall, Memoirs AMS 439 in the~case of $q$ being an~odd root of unity. Here we find the~irreducible representations for all roots of unity (also of an~even degree), as well as describe "the~diagonal part" of tensor product of any two irreducible representations. An~example of not completely reducible representation is given. Non--existence of Haar functional is proved. The~corresponding representations of universal enveloping algebras of Jimbo and Lusztig are provided. We also recal…
We use the Hecke algebras of affine symmetric groups and their associated Schur algebras to construct a new algebra through a basis, and a set of generators and explicit multiplication formulas of basis elements by generators. We prove that this algebra is isomorphic to the quantum enveloping algebra of the loop algebra of $\mathfrak {gl}_n$. Though this construction is motivated by the work \cite{BLM} by Beilinson--Lusztig--MacPherson for quantum $\frak{gl}_n$, our approach is purely algebraic and combinatorial, independent of the geometric method which seems to work only for quantum $\mathfr…
This paper develops a general theory of canonical bases, and how they arise naturally in the context of categorification. As an application, we show that Lusztig's canonical basis in the whole quantized universal enveloping algebra is given by the classes of the indecomposable 1-morphisms in a categorification when the associated Lie algebra is finite type and simply laced. We also introduce natural categories whose Grothendieck groups correspond to the tensor products of lowest and highest weight integrable representations. This generalizes past work of the author's in the highest weight case…
We define two algebra automorphisms $T_0$ and $T_1$ of the $q$-Onsager algebra $B_c$, which provide an analog of G. Lusztig's braid group action for quantum groups. These automorphisms are used to define root vectors which give rise to a PBW basis for $B_c$. We show that the root vectors satisfy $q$-analogs of Onsager's original commutation relations. The paper is much inspired by I. Damiani's construction and investigation of root vectors for the quantized enveloping algebra of $\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2$.
