We introduce generalization of famous Macdonald polynomials for the case of super-Young diagrams that contain half-boxes on the equal footing with full boxes. These super-Macdonald polynomials are polynomials of extended set of variables: usual $p_k$ variables are accompanied by anti-commuting Grassmann variables $θ_k$. Starting from recently defined super-Schur polynomials and exploiting orthogonality relations with triangular decompositions we are able to fully determine super-Macdonald polynomials. These new polynomials have similar properties to canonical Macdonald polynomials -- they respect two different orderings in the set of (super)-Young diagrams simultaneously.
We argue that MacMahon representation of Ding-Iohara-Miki (DIM) algebra spanned by plane partitions is closely related to the Hilbert space of a 3d field theory. Using affine matrix model we propose a generalization of Bethe equations associated to DIM algebra with solutions also labelled by plane partitions. In a certain limit we identify the eigenstates of the Bethe system as new triple Macdonald polynomials depending on an infinite number of families of time variables. We interpret these results as first hints of the existence of an integrable 3d field theory, in which DIM algebra plays the…
We demonstrate in some detail how Macdonald polynomials emerge from the recently introduced 3-Schur functions when the plane-partition vector time-variables are projected onto the ordinary scalar times under non-vanishing angles, which depend on $q$ and $t$. We also explain how the cut-and-join operators smoothly interpolate between different cases. Most of consideration is restricted to level two.
We show, in a number of simple examples, that Macdonald-type $qt$-deformations of topological string partition functions are equivalent to topological string partition functions that are without $qt$-deformations but with brane condensates, and that these brane condensates lead to geometric transitions.
We give a rigorous calculation of the large N limit of the partition function of SU(N) gauge theory on a 2D cylinder in the case where one boundary holomony is a so-called special element of type $ρ$. By MacDonald's identity, the partition function factors in this case as a product over positive roots and it is straightforward to calculate the large N asymptotics of the free energy. We obtain the unexpected result that the free energy in these cases is asymptotic to N times a functional of the limit densities of eigenvalues of the boundary holonomies. This appears to contradict the predictions…
We are developing the algebraic construction for form factors of local operators in the sinh-Gordon theory proposed in [B.Feigin, M.Lashkeivch, 2008]. We show that the operators corresponding to the null vectors in this construction are given by the degenerate Macdonald polynomials with rectangular partitions and the parameters $t=-q$ on the unit circle. We obtain an integral representation for the null vectors and discuss its simple applications.
It has been argued that the Nekrasov's partition function gives the generating function of refined BPS state counting in the compactification of M theory on local Calabi-Yau spaces. We show that a refined version of the topological vertex we proposed before (hep-th/0502061) is a building block of the Nekrasov's partition function with two equivariant parameters. Compared with another refined topological vertex by Iqbal-Kozcaz-Vafa (hep-th/0701156), our refined vertex is expressed entirely in terms of the specialization of the Macdonald symmetric functions which is related to the equivariant ch…
Macdonald superpolynomials provide a remarkably rich generalization of the usual Macdonald polynomials. The starting point of this work is the observation of a previously unnoticed stability property of the Macdonald superpolynomials when the fermionic sector m is sufficiently large: their decomposition in the monomial basis is then independent of m. These stable superpolynomials are readily mapped into bisymmetric polynomials, an operation that spoils the ring structure but drastically simplifies the associated vector space. Our main result is a factorization of the (stable) bisymmetric Macdo…
We introduce a conjectural construction for an extension to superspace of the Macdonald polynomials. The construction, which depends on certain orthogonality and triangularity relations, is tested for high degrees. We conjecture a simple form for the norm of the Macdonald polynomials in superspace, and a rather non-trivial expression for their evaluation. We study the limiting cases q=0 and q=\infty, which lead to two families of Hall-Littlewood polynomials in superspace. We also find that the Macdonald polynomials in superspace evaluated at q=t=0 or q=t=\infty seem to generalize naturally the…
We establish a previously conjectured connection between $p$-adics and quantum groups. We find in Sklyanin's two parameter elliptic quantum algebra and its generalizations, the conceptual basis for the Macdonald polynomials, which ``interpolate'' between the zonal spherical functions of related real and $p$\--adic symmetric spaces. The elliptic quantum algebras underlie the $Z_n$\--Baxter models. We show that in the $n \air \infty$ limit, the Jost function for the scattering of {\em first} level excitations in the $Z_n$\--Baxter model coincides with the Harish\--Chandra\--like $c$\--function c…
We argue the connection of Nekrasov's partition function in the Ωbackground and the moduli space of D-branes, suggested by the idea of geometric engineering and Gopakumar-Vafa invariants. In the instanton expansion of N=2 SU(2) Yang-Mills theory the Nakrasov's partition function with equivariant parameters ε_1, ε_2 of toric action on C^2 factorizes correctly as the character of SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R spin representation. We show that up to two instantons the spin contents are consistent with the Lefschetz action on the moduli space of D2-branes on (local) F_0. We also present an attempt at con…
A generalization of the Macdonald polynomials depending upon both commuting and anticommuting variables has been introduced recently. The construction relies on certain orthogonality and triangularity relations. Although many superpolynomials were constructed as solutions of highly over-determined system, the existence issue was left open. This is resolved here: we demonstrate that the underlying construction has a (unique) solution. The proof uses, as a starting point, the definition of the Macdonald superpolynomials in terms of the Macdonald non-symmetric polynomials via a non-standard (anti…
In arXiv:1106.4305 extended superpolynomials were introduced for the torus links T[m,mk+r], which are functions on the entire space of time variables and, at expense of reducing the topological invariance, possess additional algebraic properties, resembling those of the matrix model partition functions and the KP/Toda tau-functions. Not surprisingly, being a suitable extension it actually allows one to calculate the superpolynomials. These functions are defined as expansions into MacDonald polynomials, and their dependence on k is entirely captured by the action of the cut-and-join operator, l…
We study the N=2 four-dimensional superconformal index in various interesting limits, such that only states annihilated by more than one supercharge contribute. Extrapolating from the SU(2) generalized quivers, which have a Lagrangian description, we conjecture explicit formulae for all A-type quivers of class S, which in general do not have one. We test our proposals against several expected dualities. The index can always be interpreted as a correlator in a two-dimensional topological theory, which we identify in each limit as a certain deformation of two-dimensional Yang-Mills theory. The s…
We continue the study of form factors of descendant operators in the sinh- and sine-Gordon models in the framework of the algebraic construction proposed in [arXiv:0812.4776]. We find the algebraic construction to be related to a particular limit of the tensor product of the deformed Virasoro algebra and a suitably chosen Heisenberg algebra. To analyze the space of local operators in the framework of the form factor formalism we introduce screening operators and construct singular and cosingular vectors in the Fock spaces related to the free field realization of the obtained algebra. We show t…
We continue our study of the AGT correspondence between instanton counting on C^2/Z_p and Conformal field theories with the symmetry algebra A(r,p). In the cases r=1, p=2 and r=2, p=2 this algebra specialized to: A(1,2)=H+sl(2)_1 and A(2,2)=H+sl(2)_2+NSR. As the main tool we use a new construction of the algebra A(r,2) as the limit of the toroidal gl(1) algebra for q,t tend to -1. We claim that the basis of the representation of the algebra A(r,2) (or equivalently, of the space of the local fields of the corresponding CFT) can be expressed through Macdonald polynomials with the parameters q,t …
MacMahon's classic generating function of random plane partitions, which is related to Schur polynomials, was recently extended by Vuletic to a generating function of weighted plane partitions that is related to Hall-Littlewood polynomials, S(t), and further to one related to Macdonald polynomials, S(t,q). Using Jing's 1-parameter deformation of charged free fermions, we obtain a Fock space derivation of the Hall-Littlewood extension. Confining the plane partitions to a finite s-by-s square base, we show that the resulting generating function, S_{s-by-s}(t), is an evaluation of a tau-function …

We study the superconformal indices of 4d theories coming from 6d N=(2,0) theory of type Γon a Riemann surface, with the action of the outer-automorphism σin the trace. We find that the indices are given by the partition function of a deformed 2d Yang-Mills on the Riemann surface with gauge group G which is S-dual to the subgroup of Γfixed by σ. In the 2-parameter deformed version, we find that it is governed not by Macdonald polynomials of type G, but by Macdonald polynomials associated to twisted affine root systems.
The Schur functions play a crucial role in the modern description of HOMFLY polynomials for knots and of topological vertices in DIM-based network theories, which could merge into a unified theory still to be developed. The Macdonald functions do the same for hyperpolynomials and refined vertices, but merging appears to be more problematic. For a detailed study of this problem, more knowledge is needed about the Macdonald polynomials than is usually available. As a preparation for the discussion of the knot/vertices relation, we summarize the relevant facts and open problems about the Macdonal…
