In this paper we derive tight bounds on the expected value of products of {\em low influence} functions defined on correlated probability spaces. The proofs are based on extending Fourier theory to an arbitrary number of correlated probability spaces, on a generalization of an invariance principle recently obtained with O'Donnell and Oleszkiewicz for multilinear polynomials with low influences and bounded degree and on properties of multi-dimensional Gaussian distributions. The results derived here have a number of applications to the theory of social choice in economics, to hardness of approximation in computer science and to additive combinatorics problems.
An extension of the Gaussian correlation conjecture (GCC) is proved for multivariate gamma distributions (in the sense of Krishnamoorthy and Parthasarathy). The classical GCC for Gaussian probability measures is obtained by the special case with one degree of freedom.
This paper developed an inference problem for Vasicek model driven by a general Gaussian process. We construct a least squares estimator and a moment estimator for the drift parameters of the Vasicek model, and we prove the consistency and the asymptotic normality. Our approach extended the result of Xiao and Yu (2018) for the case when noise is a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H \in [1/2,1).
We obtain a representation theorem for Banach space valued Gaussian random variables as integrals against a white noise. As a corollary we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a white noise representation for a Gaussian random field indexed by a compact measure space. As an application we show how existing theory for integration with respect to Gaussian processes indexed by $[0,1]$ can be extended to Gaussian fields indexed by compact measure spaces.
We prove that the appropriately normalized maximum of the Gaussian $1/f^α$-noise with $α<1$ converges in distribution to the Gumbel double-exponential law.
A dynamical system driven by non-Gaussian Lévy noises of small intensity is considered. The first exit time of solution orbits from a bounded neighborhood of an attracting equilibrium state is estimated. For a class of non-Gaussian Lévy noises, it is shown that the mean exit time is asymptotically faster than exponential (the well-known Gaussian Brownian noise case) but slower than polynomial (the stable Lévy noise case), in terms of the reciprocal of the small noise intensity.
We study a class of stochastic evolution equations with a dissipative forcing nonlinearity and additive noise. The noise is assumed to satisfy rather general assumptions about the form of the covariance function; our framework covers examples of Gaussian processes, like fractional and bifractional Brownian motion and also non Gaussian examples like the Hermite process. We give an application of our results to the study of the stochastic version of a common model of potential spread in a dendritic tree. Our investigation is specially motivated by possibility to introduce long-range dependence i…
Classical Gaussian white noise in communications and signal processing is viewed as the limit of zero mean second order Gaussian processes with a compactly supported flat spectral density as the support goes to infinity. The difficulty of developing a theory to deal with nonlinear transformations of white noise has been to interpret the corresponding limits. In this paper we show that a renormalization and centering of powers of band-limited Gaussian processes is Gaussian white noise and as a consequence, homogeneous polynomials under suitable renormalization remain white noises.

The Kalman filter is extensively used for state estimation for linear systems under Gaussian noise. When non-Gaussian Lévy noise is present, the conventional Kalman filter may fail to be effective due to the fact that the non-Gaussian Lévy noise may have infinite variance. A modified Kalman filter for linear systems with non-Gaussian Lévy noise is devised. It works effectively with reasonable computational cost. Simulation results are presented to illustrate this non-Gaussian filtering method.
Fokker-Planck equations describe time evolution of probability densities of stochastic dynamical systems and play an important role in quantifying propagation and evolution of uncertainty. Although Fokker-Planck equations can be written explicitly for nonlinear dynamical systems excited by Gaussian white noise, they are not available in general for nonlinear dynamical systems excited by multiplicative non-Gaussian white noise. Marcus stochastic differential equations are often appropriate models in engineering and physics for stochastic dynamical systems excited by non-Gaussian white noise. In…
We use Yosida approximation to find an Itô formula for mild solutions $\left\{X^x(t), t\geq 0\right\}$ of SPDEs with Gaussian and non-Gaussian coloured noise, the non Gaussian noise being defined through compensated Poisson random measure associated to a Lévy process. The functions to which we apply such Itô formula are in $C^{1,2}([0,T]\times H)$, as in the case considered for SDEs in [9]. Using this Itô formula we prove exponential stability and exponential ultimate boundedness properties in mean square sense for mild solutions. We also compare such Itô formula to an Itô formula for mild sol…
In this note we consider stochastic heat equation with general additive Gaussian noise. Our aim is to derive some necessary and sufficient conditions on the Gaussian noise in order to solve the corresponding heat equation. We investigate this problem invoking two different methods, respectively based on variance computations and on path-wise considerations in Besov spaces. We are going to see that, as anticipated, both approaches lead to the same necessary and sufficient condition on the noise. In addition, the path-wise approach brings out regularity results for the solution.
This paper studies the stochastic heat equation driven by time fractional Gaussian noise with Hurst parameter $H\in(0,1/2)$. We establish the Feynman-Kac representation of the solution and use this representation to obtain matching lower and upper bounds for the $L^p(Ω)$ moments of the solution.
We study the existence and uniqueness of solutions to stochastic differential equations with Volterra processes driven by Lévy noise. For this purpose, we study in detail smoothness properties of these processes. Special attention is given to two kinds of Volterra-Gaussian processes that generalize the compact interval representation of fractional Brownian motion and to stochastic equations with such processes.
We consider the regularization of matrices $M^N$ written in Jordan form by additive Gaussian noise $N^{-γ}G^N$, where $G^N$ is a matrix of i.i.d. standard Gaussians and $γ>1/2$ so that the operator norm of the additive noise tends to $0$ with $N$. Under mild conditions on the structure of $M^N$ we evaluate the limit of the empirical measure of eigenvalues of $M^N+N^{-γ} G^N$ and show that it depends on $γ$, in contrast with the case of a single Jordan block.
In this paper we prove that a Gaussian white noise on the $d$-dimensional torus has paths in the Besov spaces $B^{-d/2}_{p,\infty}(\T^d)$ with $p\in [1, \infty)$. This result is shown to be optimal in several ways. We also show that Gaussian white noise on the $d$-dimensional torus has paths in a the Fourier-Besov space $\hat{b}^{-d/p}_{p,\infty}(\T^d)$. This is shown to be optimal as well.
Dynamical systems driven by Gaussian noises have been considered extensively in modeling, simulation and theory. However, complex systems in engineering and science are often subject to non-Gaussian fluctuations or uncertainties. A coupled dynamical system under non- Gaussian Levy noises is considered. After discussing cocycle prop- erty, stationary orbits and random attractors, a synchronization phe- nomenon is shown to occur, when the drift terms of the coupled system satisfy certain dissipativity and integrability conditions. The synchro- nization result implies that coupled dynamical syste…
Using the white noise space setting, we define and study stochastic integrals with respect to a class of stationary increment Gaussian processes. We focus mainly on continuous functions with values in the Kondratiev space of stochastic distributions, where use is made of the topology of nuclear spaces. We also prove an associated Ito formula.
We study the Langevin equation with stationary-increment Gaussian noise. We show the strong consistency and the asymptotic normality with Berry--Esseen bound of the so-called alternative estimator of the mean reversion parameter. The conditions and results are stated in terms of the variance function of the noise. We consider both the case of continuous and discrete observations. As examples we consider fractional and bifractional Ornstein--Uhlenbeck processes. Finally, we discuss the maximum likelihood and the least squares estimators.
Using the calculus of variations, we prove that a Euclidean set of fixed Gaussian measure that nearly maximizes Gaussian noise stability is close to a half space. The main result proves a modification of a conjecture of Eldan from 2013: a robust Borell inequality that removes a logarithmic dependence on the distance of the set to a half space. For sets of Gaussian measure $1/2$, we prove Eldan's 2013 conjecture. The noise stability of a Euclidean set $A$ with correlation $ρ$ is the probability that $(X,Y)\in A\times A$, where $X,Y$ are standard Gaussian random vectors with correlation $ρ\in(-1…
We consider stochastic differential equations driven by Gaussian white noise on $\R^d$. % We provide applications to models for financial %markets. Particular attention is given to the kernel $p_t,\,t\geq 0$ of the transition semigroup associated with the solution process. Under some assumptions on the coefficients, we prove that the small time asymptotic expansion of $p_t$ is Borel summable.
We investigate the properties of the Wick square of Gaussian white noises through a new method to perform non linear operations on Hida distributions. This method lays in between the Wick product interpretation and the usual definition of nonlinear functions. We prove on Ito-type formula and solve stochastic differential equations driven by the renormalized square of the Gaussian white noise. Our approach works with standard assumptions on the coefficients of the equations, Lipschitz continuity and linear growth condition, and produces existence and uniqueness results in the space where the no…
We investigate the Large Deviation behavior in small time of continuous Gaussian processes. We introduce a general procedure allowing to derive Large Deviation Principles in small time starting from the well understood context of Large Deviation Principles with a small parameter, going beyond the self-similar case. Several motivating examples are also treated.
Gaussian correlation conjecture states that the Gaussian measure of the intersection of two symmetric convex sets is greater or equal to the product of the measures.
We study the projection of an element of fractional Gaussian noise onto its neighbouring elements. We prove some analytic results for the coefficients of this projection, in particular, we obtain recurrence relations for them. We also make several conjectures concerning the behaviour of these coefficients, provide numerical evidence supporting these conjectures, and study them theoretically in particular cases. As an auxiliary result of independent interest, we investigate the covariance function of fractional Gaussian noise, prove that it is completely monotone for $H>1/2$, and, in particular…
We prove that under the Gaussian measure, half-spaces are uniquely the most noise stable sets. We also prove a quantitative version of uniqueness, showing that a set which is almost optimally noise stable must be close to a half-space. This extends a theorem of Borell, who proved the same result but without uniqueness, and it also answers a question of Ledoux, who asked whether it was possible to prove Borell's theorem using a direct semigroup argument. Our quantitative uniqueness result has various applications in diverse fields.
We study Gaussian approximations to the distribution of a diffusion. The approximations are easy to compute: they are defined by two simple ordinary differential equations for the mean and the covariance. Time correlations can also be computed via solution of a linear stochastic differential equation. We show, using the Kullback-Leibler divergence, that the approximations are accurate in the small noise regime. An analogous discrete time setting is also studied. The results provide both theoretical support for the use of Gaussian processes in the approximation of diffusions, and methodological…
The aim of this paper is to establish the almost sure asymptotic behavior as the space variable becomes large, for the solution to the one spatial dimensional stochastic heat equation driven by a Gaussian noise which is white in time and which has the covariance structure of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/4 and less than 1/2 in the space variable.
In this article, we study the stochastic wave equation in arbitrary spatial dimension $d$, with a multiplicative term of the form $σ(u)=u$, also known in the literature as the Hyperbolic Anderson Model. This equation is perturbed by a general Gaussian noise, which is homogeneous in both space and time. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution of this equation (in the Skorohod sense) and the Hölder continuity of its sample paths, under the same respective conditions on the spatial spectral measure of the noise as in the case of the white noise in time, regardless of the temporal cova…
The main goal of this article is to study the effect of small, highly nonlinear, unbounded drifts (small time large deviation principle (LDP) based on exponential equivalence arguments) for a class of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with fully monotone coefficients driven by multiplicative Gaussian noise. The small time LDP obtained in this paper is applicable for various quasi-linear and semilinear SPDEs such as porous medium equations, Cahn-Hilliard equation, 2D Navier-Stokes equations, convection-diffusion equation, 2D liquid crystal model, power law fluids, Ladyzhenskaya …
Using the white noise space framework, we define a class of stochastic processes which include as a particular case the fractional Brownian motion and its derivative. The covariance functions of these processes are of a special form, studied by Schoenberg, von Neumann and Krein.
One proves here the backward uniqueness of solutions to stochastic semilinear parabolic equations and also for the tamed Navier-Stokes equations driven by linearly multiplicative Gaussian noises. Applications to approximate controllability of nonlinear stochastic parabolic equations with initial controllers are given. The method of proof relies on the logarithmic convexity property known to hold for solutions to linear evolution equations in Hilbert spaces with self-adjoint principal part.
This paper studies the stochastic heat equation with multiplicative noises of the form uW, where W is a mean zero Gaussian noise and the differential element uW is interpreted both in the sense of Skorohod and Stratonovich. The existence and uniqueness of the solution are studied for noises with general time and spatial covariance structure. Feynman-Kac formulas for the solutions and for the moments of the solutions are obtained under general and different conditions. These formulas are applied to obtain the Hölder continuity of the solutions. They are also applied to obtain the intermittency …
A positive correlation inequality is established for circular-invariant plurisubharmonic functions, with respect to complex Gaussian measures. The main ingredients of the proofs are the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup, and another natural semigroup associated to the Gaussian $\partial$-Laplacian.
A continuous-time regression model with a jointly strictly sub-Gaussian random noise is considered in the paper. Upper exponential bounds for probabilities of large deviations of the least squares estimator for the regression parameter are obtained.
We introduce and study a new class of non-Archimedean stochastic pseudodifferential equations. These equations are the non-Archimedean counterparts of the classical stochastic heat equations. We show the existence and uniqueness of mild random field solutions for these equations.
The paper is to prove the Gaussian correlation conjecture stating that, under the standard Gaussian measure, the measure of the intersection of any two symmetric convex sets is greater than or equal to the product of their measures. Characterization of the equality and some applications are given.
In this article, we consider fractional stochastic wave equations on $\mathbb R$ driven by a multiplicative Gaussian noise which is white/colored in time and has the covariance of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac14, \frac12)$ in space. We prove the existence and uniqueness of the mild Skorohod solution, establish lower and upper bounds for the $p$-th moment of the solution for all $p\ge2$, and obtain the Hölder continuity in time and space variables for the solution.
Starting with a short map $f_0:I\to \mathbb R^3$ on the unit interval $I$, we construct random isometric map $f_n:I\to \mathbb R^3$ (with respect to some fixed Riemannian metrics) for each positive integer $n$, such that the difference $(f_n - f_0)$ goes to zero in the $C^0$ norm. The construction of $f_n$ uses the Nash twist. We show that the distribution of $ n^{1/2} (f_n - f_0)$ converges (weakly) to a Gaussian noise measure.
We investigate the bifurcation phenomena for stochastic systems with multiplicative Gaussian noise, by examining qualitative changes in mean phase portraits. Starting from the Fokker-Planck equation for the probability density function of solution processes, we compute the mean orbits and mean equilibrium states. A change in the number or stability type, when a parameter varies, indicates a stochastic bifurcation. Specifically, we study stochastic bifurcation for three prototypical dynamical systems (i.e., saddle-node, transcritical, and pitchfork systems) under multiplicative Gaussian noise, …
We study the Gaussian noise stability of subsets A of Euclidean space satisfying A=-A. It is shown that an interval centered at the origin, or its complement, maximizes noise stability for small correlation, among symmetric subsets of the real line of fixed Gaussian measure. On the other hand, in dimension two and higher, the ball or its complement does not always maximize noise stability among symmetric sets of fixed Gaussian measure. In summary, we provide the first known positive and negative results for the Symmetric Gaussian Problem.
Nonlinear dynamical systems are sometimes under the influence of random fluctuations. It is desirable to examine possible bifurcations for stochastic dynamical systems when a parameter varies. A computational analysis is conducted to investigate bifurcations of a simple dynamical system under non-Gaussian α-stable Levy motions, by examining the changes in stationary probability density functions for the solution orbits of this stochastic system. The stationary probability density functions are obtained by numerically solving a non local Fokker-Planck equation. This allows numerically investiga…
