Let G be a noncyclic group of order 4, and let K be the ring Z of rational integers, the localization of Z at the prime 2 and the ring of 2-adic integers, respectively. We describe, up to conjugacy, all of the indecomposable subgroups in the group GL(m,K) which are isomorphic to G.
Let $P$ be a principal indecomposable module of a finite group $G$ in characteristic $2$ and let $φ$ be the Brauer character of the corresponding simple $G$-module. We show that $P$ affords a non-degenerate $G$-invariant quadratic form if and only if there are involutions $s,t\in G$ such that $st$ has odd order and $φ(st)/2$ is not an algebraic integer. We then show that the number of isomorphism classes of quadratic principal indecomposable $G$-modules is equal to the number of strongly real conjugacy classes of odd order elements of $G$.
We compute the Loewy structure of the indecomposable projective modules for the group algebra FG, where G is the alternating group on 10 letters and F is an algebraically closed field of characteristic 3.
G. Navarro raised the question under what circumstancs two vertices of two indecomposable modules over a finite group algebra generate a Sylow $p$-subgroup. The present note provides a sufficient criterion for when this is the case. This generalises a result by Navarro for simple modules over finite $p$-solvable groups, which is the main motivation for this note.
In this article we study the interplay between algebro-geometric notions related to $π$-points and structural features of the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver of a finite group scheme. We show that $π$-points give rise to a number of new invariants of the AR-quiver on one hand, and exploit combinatorial properties of AR-components to obtain information on $π$-points on the other. Special attention is given to components containing Carlson modules, constantly supported modules, and endo-trivial modules.
We determine the indecomposable characters of several classes of infinite dimensional groups associated with operator algebras, including the unitary groups of arbitrary unital simple AF algebras and II$_1$ factors.
We prove the existence and main properties of signed Young modules for the symmetric group, using only basic facts about symmetric group representations and the Brou{é} correspondence. We then prove new reduction theorems for the signed $p$-Kostka numbers, defined to be the multiplicities of signed Young modules as direct summands of signed Young permutation modules. We end by classifying the indecomposable signed Young permutation modules and determining their endomorphism algebras.
In this paper we obtain the complete description of all indecomposable characters (central positive-definite functions) of inductive limits of the symmetric groups under block diagonal embedding. As a corollary we obtain the full classification of the isomorphism classes of these inductive limits.
We investigate the representation theory of domestic group schemes $\mathcal{G}$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p > 2$. We present results about filtrations of induced modules, actions on support varieties, Clifford theory for certain group schemes and applications of Clifford theory for strongly group graded algebras to the structure of Auslander-Reiten quivers. The combination of these results leads to the classification of modules belonging to the principal blocks of the group algebra $k\mathcal{G}$.
We study the torsion free generalized crystallographic groups with the indecomposable holonomy group which is isomorphic to either a cyclic group of order ${p^s}$ or a direct product of two cyclic groups of order ${p}$.
A Classification of the Isomorphism Types of Indecomposable and Simple Modules that Refines the Green Theory in Finite Group Modular Representation Theory
Let $X$ be the space of all infinite $0,1$-sequences and $T$ be the odometer on $X$. In this paper we introduce a dense subgroup $S(2^\infty)$ of the full group $[T]$ and describe all indecomposable characters on $S(2^\infty)$. As result we obtain a description of indecomposable characters on $[T]$.
Let K be a principal ideal domain, G a finite group, and M a KG-module which as K-module is free of finite rank, and on which $G$ acts faithfully. A generalized crystallographic group (introduced by the authors in volume 5 of Journal of Group Theory) is a group $\frak C$ which has a normal subgroup isomorphic to M with quotient G, such that conjugation in $\frak C$ gives the same action of G on M that we started with. (When $K=\Bbb Z$, these are just the classical crystallographic groups.) The K-free rank of M is said to be the dimension of $\frak C$, the holonomy group of $\frak C$ is G, and …
Let $G$ be a simple simply connected algebraic group over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p$, with Frobenius kernel $G_{(1)}$. It is known that when $p\ge 2h-2$, where $h$ is the Coxeter number of $G$, the projective indecomposable $G_{(1)}$-modules (PIMs) lift to $G$, and this has been conjectured to hold in all characteristics. In this paper, we explore the lifting problem via extensions of algebraic groups, following the work of Parshall and Scott who in turn build upon ideas due to Donkin. We prove various results which augment this approach, and as an application demo…
Suppose that $Q$ is a connected quiver without oriented cycles and $σ$ is an automorphism of $Q$. Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field whose characteristic does not divide the order of the cyclic group $\langleσ\rangle$. The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between indecomposable $kQ$-modules and indecomposable $kQ\#k\langleσ\rangle$-modules. It has been shown by Hubery that any $kQ\#k\langleσ\rangle$-module is an isomorphically invariant $kQ$-module, i.e., ii-module (in this paper, we call it $\langleσ\rangle$-equivalent $kQ$-module), and conversely any $\langleσ\rangl…
For the Klein-Four Group $G$ and a perfect field $k$ of characteristic two we determine all indecomposable symplectic $kG$-modules, that is, $kG$-modules with a symplectic, $G$-invariant form which do not decompose into smaller such modules, and classify them up to isometry. Also we determine all quadratic forms that have one of the above symplectic forms as their associated bilinear form and describe their isometry classes.
Let $F$ be a field of non-zero characteristic $p$, let $G$ be a cyclic group of order $q =p^a$ for some positive integer $a$, and let $U$ and $W$ be indecomposable $F G$-modules. We identify a generator for each of the indecomposable components of $U \otimes W$ in terms of a particular $F$-basis of $U \otimes W$, extending previous work in which each component occurred with multiplicity one. An anonymous reviewer helped us realize that our results are really just a translation of previous results of Iiwa and Iwamatsu to our situation.
In this paper we study the vertices of indecomposable Specht modules for symmetric groups. For any given indecomposable non-projective Specht module, the main theorem of the article describes a family of p-subgroups contained in its vertex. The theorem generalizes and improves an earlier result due to Wildon in "Vertices of Specht modules and blocks of the symmetric group", J. Alg 323 (2010) 2243--2256.
The Green ring of the half quantum group $H=U_n(q)$ is computed in [Chen, Van Oystaeyen, Zhang]. The tensor product formulas between indecomposables may be used for a generalized subgroup depth computation in the setting of quantum groups -- to compute depth of the Hopf subalgebra $H$ in its Drinfeld double $D(H)$. In this paper the Hopf subalgebra quotient module $Q$ (a generalization of the permutation module of cosets for a group extension) is computed and, as $H$-modules, $Q$ and its second tensor power are decomposed into a direct sum of indecomposables. We note that the least power $n$, …
Dave Benson conjectured in 2020 that if $G$ is a finite $2$-group and $V$ is an odd-dimensional indecomposable representation of $G$ over an algebraically closed field $\Bbbk$ of characteristic $2$, then the only odd-dimensional indecomposable summand of $V \otimes V^*$ is the trivial representation $\Bbbk$. This would imply that a tensor power of an odd-dimensional indecomposable representation of $G$ over $\Bbbk$ has a unique odd-dimensional summand. Benson has further conjectured that, given such a representation $V$, the function sending a positive integer $n$ to the dimension of the uniqu…

Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field, $\mathop{char}(k) = p \geq 2$ and $E_r$ be a $p$-elementary abelian group of rank $r \geq 2$. Let $(c,d) \in \mathbb{N}^2$. We show that there exists an indecomposable module of constant Jordan type $[1]^c [2]^d$ and Loewy length $2$ if and only if $q_{Γ_r}(d,d+c) \leq 1$ and $c \geq r-1$, where $q_{Γ_r}(x,y) := x^2 + y^2-rxy$ denotes the Tits form of the generalized Kronecker quiver $Γ_r$. Since $p > 2$ and constant Jordan type $[1]^c [2]^d$ imply Loewy length $\leq 2$, we get in this case the full classification of Jordan types $[1]^c [2]^d$ that ari…
By a result of Hemmer, every simple Specht module of a finite symmetric group over a field of odd characteristic is a signed Young module. While Specht modules are parametrized by partitions, indecomposable signed Young modules are parametrized by certain pairs of partitions. The main result of this article establishes the signed Young module labels of simple Specht modules. Along the way we prove a number of results concerning indecomposable signed Young modules that are of independent interest. In particular, we determine the label of the indecomposable signed Young module obtained by tensor…
Let $G$ be the Klein Four-group and let $k$ be an arbitrary field of characteristic 2. A classification of indecomposable $kG$-modules is known. We calculate the relative cohomology groups $H_\{chi}^i(G,N)$ for every indecomposable $kG$-module $N$, where $\{chi}$ is the set of proper subgroups in $G$. This extends work of Pamuk and Yalcin to cohomology with non-trivial coefficients. We also show that all cup products in strictly positive degree in $H_\{chi}^*(G,k)$ are trivial.
We study the reduced Lefschetz module of the complex of p-radical and p-centric subgroups. We assume that the underlying group G has parabolic characteristic p and the centralizer of a certain noncentral p-element has a component with central quotient H a finite group of Lie type in characteristic p. A non-projective indecomposable summand of the associated Lefschetz module lies in a non-principal block of G and it is a Green correspondent of an inflated, extended Steinberg module for a Lie subgroup of H. The vertex of this summand is the defect group of the block in which it lies.
We prove that certain p-adic Banach representations, associated to local ordinary Galois representations, constructed by Breuil and Herzig appears in the completed cohomology of a definite unitary group in three variables. This confirms part of their conjecture. Our main technique is making use of p-adic automorphic forms for definite unitary groups and the eigenvarieties which parameterize them.
All indecomposable finite-dimensional representations of the homogeneous Galilei group which when restricted to the rotation subgroup are decomposed to spin 0, 1/2 and 1 representations are constructed and classified. These representations are also obtained via contractions of the corresponding representations of the Lorentz group. Finally the obtained representations are used to derive a general Pauli anomalous interaction term and Darwin and spin-orbit couplings of a Galilean particle interacting with an external electric field.
We investigate finite non-Abelian simple groups $G$ for which the projective cover of the trivial module coincides with the permutation module on a subgroup and classify all cases unless $G$ is of Lie type in defining characteristic.
We prove that partially ordered set has finite number of finite-dimensional indecomposable nonequivalent Hilbert representations with orthoscalarity condition if and anly if it has finite number of indecomposable linear representations. We show that each indecomposable representation of the poset of finite type could be unitarized with some weight.
We study the indecomposable summands of the permutation module obtained by inducing the trivial $\mathbb{F}(S_a\wr S_n)$-module to the full symmetric group $S_{an}$ for any field $\mathbb{F}$ of odd prime characteristic $p$ such that $a<p\leq n$. In particular we characterize the vertices of such indecomposable summands. As a corollary we will disprove a modular version of Foulkes' Conjecture. In the second part of the article we will use this information to give a new description of some columns of the decomposition matrices of symmetric groups in terms of the ordinary character of the Foulke…
We introduce a general constructive method to find a p-basis (and the Ulm invariants) of a finite Abelian p-group M. This algorithm is based on Groebner bases theory. We apply this method to determine the additive structure of indecomposable modules over the following Dedeking-like rings: ZCp, where Cp is the cyclic group of order a prime p, and the p-pullback Z --> Zp <-- Z of Z+Z.
Suppose that $Q$ is a finite quiver and $G\subseteq \Aut(Q)$ is a finite group, $k$ is an algebraic closed field whose characteristic does not divide the order of $G$. For any algebra $Λ=kQ/{\mathcal {I}}$, $\mathcal {I}$ is an arbitrary ideal of path algebra $kQ$, we give all the indecomposable $ΛG$-modules from indecomposable $Λ$-modules when $G$ is abelian. In particular, we apply this result to the deformed preprojective algebra $Π_{Q}^λ$, and get a reflection functor for the module category of $Π_{Q}^λG$. Furthermore, we construct a new quiver $Q_{G}$ and prove that $Π_{Q}^λG$ is Morita e…
Let k be an algebraically closed field and A a finite dimensional associative k-algebra. We prove that there is no gap in the lengths of indecomposable A-modules of finite length. The analogous result holds for an abelian k-linear category C if the endomorphism algebras of the simples are k.
Let $G$ be a cyclic group of order $p$, let $k$ be a field of characteristic $p$, and let $V, W$ be $kG$-modules. We study the modules of covariants $k[V,W]^G = (S(V^*) \otimes W)^G$. For $V$ indecomposable with dimension 2, and $W$ an arbitrary indecomposable module, we show $k[V,W]^G$ is a free $k[V]^G$-module (recovering a result of Broer and Chuai) and we give an explicit set of covariants generating $k[V,W]^G$ freely over $k[V]^G$. For $V$ indecomposable with dimension 3 and $W$ an indecomposable module with dimension at most 5, we show that $k[V,W]^G$ is a Cohen-Macaulay $k[V]^G$-module …
Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of odd characteristic $p$, and let $D_n$ be the dihedral group of order $2n$ such that $p\mid 2n$. Let $D(kD_n)$ denote the quantum double of the group algebra $kD_n$. In this paper, we describe the structures of all finite dimensional indecomposable left $D(kD_n)$-modules, equivalently, of all finite dimensional indecomposable Yetter-Drinfeld $kD_n$-modules, and classify them.
Let $k$ be a field. We consider triples $(V,U,T)$, where $V$ is a finite dimensional $k$-space, $U$ a subspace of $V$ and $T \:V \to V$ a linear operator with $T^n = 0$ for some $n$, and such that $T(U) \subseteq U$. Thus, $T$ is a nilpotent operator on $V$, and $U$ is an invariant subspace with respect to $T$. We will discuss the question whether it is possible to classify these triples. These triples $(V,U,T)$ are the objects of a category with the Krull-Remak-Schmidt property, thus it will be sufficient to deal with indecomposable triples. Obviously, the classification problem depends on $n…
We study Karoubian tensor categories which interpolate representation categories of families of so-called easy quantum groups in the same sense in which Deligne's interpolation categories $\mathrm{\underline{Rep}}(S_t)$ interpolate the representation categories of the symmetric groups. As such categories can be described using a graphical calculus of partitions, we call them interpolating partition categories. They include $\mathrm{\underline{Rep}}(S_t)$ as a special case and can generally be viewed as subcategories of the latter. Focusing on semisimplicity and descriptions of the indecomposab…
Relying on the classification of the indecomposable liftable modules in arbitrary blocks with non-trivial cyclic defect groups we give a complete classification of the trivial source modules lying in such blocks, describing in particular their associated path on the Brauer tree of the block in the sense of Janusz (1969). The appendix contains a description of the minimal distance from an arbitrary non-projective indecomposable liftable module to the boundary of the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver of the block.
We study the problem of classifying triangulated categories with finite-dimensional morphism spaces and finitely many indecomposables over an algebraically closed field. We obtain a new proof of the following result due to Xiao and Zhu: the Auslander-Reiten quiver of such a category is of the form $\mathbb{Z}Δ/G$ where $Δ$ is a disjoint union of simply laced Dynkin diagrams and $G$ a weakly admissible group of automorphisms of $\mathbb{Z}Δ$. Then we prove that for `most' groups $G$, the category $\T$ is standard, \emph{i.e.} $k$-linearly equivalent to an orbit category $\mathcal{D}^b(\modd kΔ)…
We classify indecomposable summands of mixed tensor powers of the natural representation for the general linear supergroup up to isomorphism. We also give a formula for the characters of these summands in terms of composite supersymmetric Schur polynomials, and give a method for decomposing their tensor products. Along the way, we describe indecomposable objects in Rep(GL_δ) and explain how to decompose their tensor products.
In 1934, Garrett Birkhoff has shown that the number of isomorphism classes of finite metabelian groups of order $p^{22}$ tends to infinity with $p$. More precisely, for each prime number $p$ there is a family $(M_λ)_{λ=0,...,p-1}$ of indecomposable and pairwise nonisomorphic metabelian $p$-groups of the given order. In this manuscript we use recent results on the classification of possible embeddings of a subgroup in a finite abelian $p$-group to construct families of indecomposable metabelian groups, indexed by several parameters, which have upper bounds on the exponents of the center and the…
We consider the algebra of invariants of $d$-tuples of $n\times n$ matrices under the action of the orthogonal group by simultaneous conjugation over an infinite field of characteristic $p$ different from two. It is well-known that this algebra is generated by the coefficients of the characteristic polynomial of all products of generic and transpose generic $n\times n$ matrices. We establish that in case $0<p\leq n$ the maximal degree of indecomposable invariants tends to infinity as $d$ tends to infinity. In other words, there does not exist a constant $C(n)$ such that it only depends on $n$ …
The concept of a supercharacter theory of a finite group was introduced by Diaconis and Isaacs as an alternative to the usual irreducible character theory, and exemplified with a particular construction in the case of finite algebra groups. We extend this construction to arbitrary countable discrete algebra groups, where superclasses and indecomposable supercharacters play the role of conjugacy classes and indecomposable characters, respectively. Our construction can be understood as a cruder version of Kirillov's orbit method and a generalisation of Diaconis and Isaacs construction for finite…
We study the diagrammatic Hecke category associated with the affine Weyl group of type $\tilde{A}_2$. More precisely we find a (surprisingly simple) basis for the Hom spaces between indecomposable objects, that we call indecomposable double leaves.
For an acyclic quiver Q, we solve the Clebsch-Gordan problem for the projective representations by computing the multiplicity of a given indecomposable projective in the tensor product of two indecomposable projectives. Motivated by this problem for arbitrary representations, we study idempotents in the representation ring of Q (the free abelian group on the indecomposable representations, with multiplication given by tensor product). We give a general technique for constructing such idempotents and for decomposing the representation ring into a direct product of ideals, utilizing morphisms be…
A group of order $p^n$ ($p$ prime) has an indecomposable polynomial invariant of degree at least $p^{n-1}$ if and only if the group has a cyclic subgroup of index at most $p$ or it is isomorphic to one of two particular groups of small order.
