We classify indecomposable summands of mixed tensor powers of the natural representation for the general linear supergroup up to isomorphism. We also give a formula for the characters of these summands in terms of composite supersymmetric Schur polynomials, and give a method for decomposing their tensor products. Along the way, we describe indecomposable objects in Rep(GL_δ) and explain how to decompose their tensor products.
We describe indecomposable objects in Deligne's category $\underline{\operatorname{Re}}\!\operatorname{p}(O_δ)$ and explain how to decompose their tensor products. We then classify thick ideals in $\underline{\operatorname{Re}}\!\operatorname{p}(O_δ)$. As an application we classify the indecomposable summands of tensor powers of the standard representation of the orthosymplectic supergroup up to isomorphism.
We construct a faithful categorical representation of an infinite Temperley-Lieb algebra on the periplectic analogue of Deligne's category. We use the corresponding combinatorics to classify thick tensor ideals in this periplectic Deligne category. This allows to determine the objects in the kernel of the monoidal functor going to the module category of the periplectic Lie supergroup. We use this to classify indecomposable direct summands in the tensor powers of the natural representation, determine which are projective and determine their simple top.
We derive several tools for classifying tensor ideals in monoidal categories. We use these results to classify tensor ideals in Deligne's universal categories RepO, RepGL and RepP. These results are then used to obtain new insight into the second fundamental theorem of invariant theory for the algebraic supergroups of types A,B,C,D,P. We also find short proofs for the classification of tensor ideals in RepS and in the category of tilting modules for SL2(k) with char(k)>0 and for Uq(sl2) with q a root of unity. In general, for a simple Lie algebra g of type ADE, we show that the lattice of such…
We describe the image of the canonical tensor functor from Deligne's interpolating category $Rep(GL_{m-n})$ to $Rep(GL(m|n))$ attached to the standard representation. This implies explicit tensor product decompositions between any two projective modules and any two Kostant modules of $GL(m|n)$, covering the decomposition between any two irreducible $GL(m|1)$-representations. We also obtain character and dimension formulas. For $m>n$ we classify the mixed tensors with non-vanishing superdimension. For $m=n$ we characterize the maximally atypical mixed tensors and show some applications regardin…
We give negative answers to certain questions on abelian semisimple tensor categories raised by Bruno Kahn and Charles A. Weibel in connection with the preprint of Kahn "On the multiplicities of a motive" (arXiv:math/0610446), now published as Parts I and IV of "Zeta functions and motives", Pure Appl. Math. Q. 5 (2009), no. 1, part 2, 507-570. For the most interesting examples we used Deligne's category Rep(S_t,F) of representations of the "symmetric group S_t with t not an integer" with F any algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. This is an interesting family of tensor categories…
We study stabilization of finite-dimensional representations of the periplectic Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{p}(n)$ as $n \to \infty$. The paper gives a construction of the tensor category $Rep(\underline{P})$, possessing nice universal properties among tensor categories over the category $\mathtt{sVect}$ of finite-dimensional complex vector superspaces. First, it is the "abelian envelope" of the Deligne category corresponding to the periplectic Lie superalgebra, in the sense of arXiv:1511.07699. Secondly, given a tensor category $\mathcal{C}$ over $\mathtt{sVect}$, exact tensor functors $Rep(…
This paper is a sequel to arXiv:1401.6321. We define and study representation categories based on Deligne categories Rep(GL_t), Rep(O_t), Rep(Sp_2t), where t is any (non-integer) complex number. Namely, we define complex rank analogs of the parabolic category O and the representation categories of real reductive Lie groups and supergroups, affine Lie algebras, and Yangians. We develop a framework and language for studying these categories, prove basic results about them, and outline a number of directions of further research.
The main result of this article is an application of the theory of invariant convex cones of Lie algebras to the study of unitary representations of Lie supergroups. It also includes an exposition of recent results of the second author on the classification of irreducible unitary representations of nilpotent Lie supergroups using the method of coadjoint orbits.
The representation category $\mathcal{A} = Rep(G,ε)$ of a supergroup scheme $G$ has a largest proper tensor ideal, the ideal $\mathcal{N}$ of negligible morphisms. If we divide $\mathcal{A}$ by $\mathcal{N}$ we get the semisimple representation category of a pro-reductive supergroup scheme $G^{red}$. We list some of its properties and determine $G^{red}$ in the case $GL(m|1)$.
Because of its multiplicativity, the Berezinian is the character of the one-dimensional representation of the general linear supergroup. We give an explicit construction of this representation on a space of tensors. Similarly, we construct the representation such that its character is the inverse of the Berezinian.
We present two novel proofs of the known classification of connected affine algebraic supergroups $G$ such that $\operatorname{Rep}G$ is semisimple. The proofs are geometrically motivated, although both rely on an algebraic lemma that characterizes $\mathfrak{osp}(1|2n)$ amongst simple Lie superalgebras.
In this paper we describe an approach to generalise minimal representations to the super setting for Lie superalgebras obtained from Jordan superalgebras using the TKK construction. This approach was used successfully to construct a Fock model, a Schrödinger model and intertwining Segal-Bargmann transform for the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup $\mathop{OSp}(p,q|2n)$ and the exceptional Lie supergroup $\mathbb{D}(2,1;α)$. We also describe some obstacles to use this approach for the periplectic and queer Lie superalgebras.
For every finite dimensional Lie supergroup $(G,\mathfrak g)$, we define a $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal A:=\mathcal A(G,\mathfrak g)$, and show that there exists a canonical bijective correspondence between unitary representations of $(G,\mathfrak g)$ and nondegenerate $*$-representations of $\mathcal A$. The proof of existence of such a correspondence relies on a subtle characterization of smoothing operators of unitary representations. For a broad class of Lie supergroups, which includes nilpotent as well as classical simple ones, we prove that the associated $C^*$-algebra is CCR. In particular, …
Recently P. Deligne introduced the tensor category Rep(S_t) (for t not necessarily an integer) which in a certain precise sense interpolates the categories Rep(S_d) of representations of the symmetric groups S_d. In this paper we describe the blocks of Deligne's category Rep(S_t).
The purpose of the paper is to derive linkage principle for modular representations of ortho-symplectic supergroups. We follow the approach of Doty and investigate in detail the representation theory of the orthosymplectic group $OSP(2|1)$ and that of its Frobenius thickening. Using the description of flags and adjacent Borel supersubgroups we derive first the strong linkage for the Frobenius thickening $G_rT$ of the orthosymplectic supergroup $G$ of type $SpO(2m|2n+1)$ and $SpO(2m|2n)$. Based on this, we derive the linkage principle for orthosymplectic supergroup $SpO(2m|2n+1)$ and $SpO(2m|2n…
We prove a category equivalence between algebraic supergroups and Harish-Chandra pairs over a commutative ring which is $2$-torsion free. The result is applied to re-construct the Chevalley $\mathbb{Z}$-supergroups constructed by Fioresi and Gavarini [8] and by Gavarini [9, 10]. For a wide class of algebraic supergroups we describe their representations by using their super-hyperalgebras.
We show that in the Deligne categories $\mathrm{Rep}(S_t)$ for $t$ a transcendental number, the only simple algebra objects are images of simple algebras in the category of representations of a symmetric group under a canonical induction functor. They come in families which interpolate the families of algebras of functions on the cosets of $H\times S_{n-k}$ in $S_n$, for a fixed subgroup $H$ of $S_k$.
We construct a Fock model of the minimal representation of the exceptional Lie supergroup $\mathbb{D}(2,1, α)$. Explicit expressions for the action are given by integrating to group level a Fock model of the Lie superalgebra $D(2,1, α)$ constructed earlier by the authors. It is also shown that the representation is superunitary in the sense of de Goursac--Michel.
We prove that the categories of smooth and analytic unitary representations of Banach--Lie supergroups are well-behaved under restriction functors, in the sense that the restriction of a representation to an integral subsupergroup is well-defined. We also prove that the category of analytic representations is isomorphic to a subcategory of the category of smooth representations. These facts are needed as a crucial first step to a rigorous treatment of the analytic theory of unitary representations of Banach--Lie supergroups. They extend the known results for finite dimensional Lie supergroups.…
For a broad class of Frechet-Lie supergroups we prove that there exists a correspondence between positive definite smooth superfunctions and matrix coefficients of unitary representations. We also give a characterization of linear functionals on the corresponding universal enveloping algebra which correspond to matrix coefficients of analytic unitary representations.
We show that the Grothendieck ring of finite-dimensional representations of the periplectic Lie supergroup $P(n)$ is isomorphic to the ring of symmetric polynomials in $x_1^{\pm 1}, \ldots, x_n^{\pm 1}$ whose evaluation $x_1=x_2^{-1}=t$ is independent of $t$.
We define a Fourier transform and a convolution product for functions and distributions on Heisenberg--Clifford Lie supergroups. The Fourier transform exchanges the convolution and a pointwise product, and is an intertwining operator for the left regular representation. We generalize various classical theorems, including the Paley--Wiener--Schwartz theorem, and define a convolution Banach algebra.
We examine the cohomology and representation theory of a family of finite supergroup schemes of the form $(\mathbb G_a^-\times \mathbb G_a^-)\rtimes (\mathbb G_{a(r)}\times (\mathbb Z/p)^s)$. In particular, we show that a certain relation holds in the cohomology ring, and deduce that for finite supergroup schemes having this as a quotient, both cohomology mod nilpotents and projectivity of modules is detected on proper sub-super\-group schemes. This special case feeds into the proof of a more general detection theorem for unipotent finite supergroup schemes, in a separate work of the authors j…
We construct a minimal representation of the orthosymplectic Lie supergroup $OSp(p,q|2n)$, generalising the Schrödinger model of the minimal representation of $O(p,q)$ to the super case. The underlying Lie algebra representation is realized on functions on the minimal orbit inside the Jordan superalgebra associated with $\mathfrak{osp}(p,q|2n)$, so that our construction is in line with the orbit philosophy. Its annihilator is given by a Joseph-like ideal for $\mathfrak{osp}(p,q|2n)$, and therefore the representation is a natural generalization of a minimal representations to the context of Lie…
We define and study cohomological tensor functors from the category $T_n$ of finite-dimensional representations of the supergroup $Gl(n|n)$ into $T_{n-r}$ for $0 <r \leq n$. In the case $DS: T_n \to T_{n-1}$ we prove a formula $DS(L) = \bigoplus Π^{n_i} L_i$ for the image of an arbitrary irreducible representation. In particular $DS(L)$ is semisimple and multiplicity free. We derive a few applications of this theorem such as the degeneration of certain spectral sequences and a formula for the modified superdimension of an irreducible representation.
We establish a connection between two settings of representation stability for the symmetric groups $S_n$ over $\mathbb{C}$. One is the symmetric monoidal category ${\rm Rep}(S_{\infty})$ of algebraic representations of the infinite symmetric group $S_{\infty} = \bigcup_n S_n$, related to the theory of ${\bf FI}$-modules. The other is the family of rigid symmetric monoidal Deligne categories $\underline{\rm Rep}(S_t)$, $t \in \mathbb{C}$, together with their abelian versions $\underline{\rm Rep}^{ab}(S_t)$, constructed by Comes and Ostrik. We show that for any $t \in \mathbb{C}$ the natural fu…
For a locally convex Lie group with the Trotter property, we prove that the space of k-times differentiable vectors of a unitary representation is equal to the intersection of domains of k-fold products of the Lie algebra action. The result also holds for continuous representations of locally exponential groups on metrizable locally convex spaces. As an application, we extend a key stability theorem in the representation theory of Lie supergroups beyond the Banach case.
Numerous Lie supergroups do not admit superunitary representations except the trivial one, e.g., Heisenberg and orthosymplectic supergroups in mixed signature. To avoid this situation, we introduce in this paper a broader definition of superunitary representation, relying on a new definition of Hilbert superspace. The latter is inspired by the notion of Krein space and was developed initially for noncommutative supergeometry. For Heisenberg supergroups, this new approach yields a smooth generalization, whatever the signature, of the unitary representation theory of the classical Heisenberg gro…
The classical Cartan-Helgason theorem characterises finite-dimensional spherical representations of reductive Lie groups in terms of their highest weights. We generalise the theorem to the case of a reductive symmetric supergroup pair $(G,K)$ of even type. Along the way, we compute the Harish-Chandra $c$-function of the symmetric superspace $G/K$. By way of an application, we show that all spherical representations are self-dual in type AIII|AIII.
We investigate support schemes for infinitesimal unipotent supergroups and their representations. Our main results provide a non-cohomological description of these schemes which generalizes the classical work of Suslin, Friedlander, and Bendel. As a consequence, support schemes in this setting have the desired features of such a theory, including naturality with respect to group homomorphisms, the tensor product property, and realizability. As an application of the theory developed here, we investigate support varieties for certain finite-dimensional Hopf subalgebras of the Steenrod algebra.
With a view towards applications in the theory of infinite-dimensional representations of finite-dimensional Lie supergroups, we introduce a new category of supermanifolds. In this category, supermanifolds of `maps' and `fields' (fibre bundle sections) exist. In particular, loop supergroups can be realised globally in this framework. It also provides a convenient setting for induced representations of supergroups, allowing for a version of Frobenius reciprocity. Finally, convolution algebras of finite-dimensional Lie supergroups are introduced and applied to a prove a supergroup Dixmier-Mallia…
In this paper, we introduce Fréchet quantum supergroups and their representations. By using the universal deformation formula of the abelian supergroups R^{m|n} we construct various classes of Fréchet quantum supergroups that are deformation of classical ones. For such quantum supergroups, we find an analog of Kac-Takesaki operators that are superunitary and satisfy the pentagonal relation.
A semisimple algebraic tensor category over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic zero is the representation category of all finite dimensional twisted super representations of an affine reductive supergroup G over k. Such a supergroup is reductive if and only if its connected component is reductive. The connected component is reductive if and only if the Lie superalgebra divided by its center is a product of simple Lie algebras of classical type and Lie superalgebras spo(1,2r) of the orthosymplectic types BC_r.
By using certain quantum differential operators, we construct a super representation for the quantum queer supergroup U_v(q_n). The underlying space of this representation is a deformed polynomial superalgebra in 2n^2 variables whose homogeneous components can be used as the underlying spaces of queer q-Schur superalgebras. We then extend the representation to its formal power series algebra which contains a (super) submodule isomorphic to the regular representation of U_v(q_n). A monomial basis M for U_v(q_n) plays a key role in proving the isomorphism. In this way, we may present the quantum…
A fundamental theorem of P. Deligne (2002) states that a pre-Tannakian category over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero admits a fiber functor to the category of supervector spaces (i.e., is the representation category of an affine proalgebraic supergroup) if and only if it has moderate growth (i.e., the lengths of tensor powers of an object grow at most exponentially). In this paper we prove a characteristic p version of this theorem. Namely we show that a pre-Tannakian category over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>0 admits a fiber functor into the Verlinde…
Deligne has defined a category which interpolates among the representations of the various symmetric groups. In this paper we show Deligne's category admits a unique nontrivial family of modified trace functions. Such modified trace functions have already proven to be interesting in both low-dimensional topology and representation theory. We also introduce a graded variant of Deligne's category, lift the modified trace functions to the graded setting, and use them to recover the well-known invariant of framed knots known as the writhe.
In this paper we study the category of Harish-Chandra bimodules $HC_{χ,ψ}$ in the Deligne category $\text{Rep}(GL_t)$. In particular, we answer Question 3.25 posed in Pavel Etingof's paper arXiv:1407.0373 and determine for which central characters $χ$ and $ψ$ this category is not zero.
We classify representations of a class of Deligne-Mostow lattices into PGL(3;C). In particular, we show local rigidity for the representations (of Deligne-Mostow lattices with 3-fold symmetry and of type one) where the generators we chose are of the same type as the generators of Deligne-Mostow lattices. We also show local rigidity without constraints on the type of generators for six of them and we show the existence of local deformations for a number of representations in three of them. We use formal computations in SAGE and Maple to obtain the results. The code files are available on GitHub…
There are two approaches to projective representation theory of symmetric and alternating groups, which are powerful enough to work for modular representations. One is based on Sergeev duality, which connects projective representation theory of the symmetric group and representation theory of the algebraic supergroup $Q(n)$ via appropriate Schur (super)algebras and Schur functors. The second approach follows the work of Grojnowski for classical affine and cyclotomic Hecke algebras and connects projective representation theory of symmetric groups in characteristic $p$ to the crystal graph of th…
In this paper we introduce a family of Deligne--Lusztig type varieties attached to connected reductive groups over quotients of discrete valuation rings, naturally generalising the higher Deligne--Lusztig varieties and some constructions related to the algebraisation problem raised by Lusztig. We establish the inner product formula between the representations associated to these varieties and the higher Deligne--Lusztig representations.
We describe diagrammatically a positively graded Koszul algebra \mathbb{D}_k such that the category of finite dimensional \mathbb{D}_k-modules is equivalent to the category of perverse sheaves on the isotropic Grassmannian of type D_k constructible with respect to the Schubert stratification. The connection is given by an explicit isomorphism to the endomorphism algebra of a projective generator described in by Braden. The algebra is obtained by a "folding" procedure from the generalized Khovanov arc algebras. We relate this algebra to the category of finite dimensional representations of the …
We describe the structure of the tensor product of the basic Fock representation of sl(\infty) with its shifted dual. More precisely we prove that this tensor product has a unique decreasing filtration with simple quotients. We use the categorification of this representation via translation functors in the abelain envelope of the Deligne category GL(t) for integral t. We also compute dimensions of standard and tilting objects in this abelian envelope.
We give a combinatorial construction for the canonical bases of the $\pm$-parts of the quantum enveloping superalgebra $\bfU(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$ and discuss their relationship with the Kazhdan-Lusztig bases for the quantum Schur superalgebras $\bsS(m|n,r)$ introduced in \cite{DR}. We will also extend this relationship to the induced bases for simple polynomial representations of $\bfU(\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n})$.
We give new interpretations of the Deligne categories $\underline{Rep}(GL_t)$ and $\underline{Rep}(S_t)$ (and their abelian envelopes) over $\mathbb{C}$ in terms of modular representations of general linear and symmetric groups of large rank in large characteristic. In particular we make sense of the sentence "$\underline{Rep}(S_n)$ is the limit of $Rep(S_{p+n})$ over $\bar{\mathbb{F}}_p$ as $p$ goes to infinity". We then give examples of how to pass results between these different settings.
For each integer $t$ a tensor category $V_t$ is constructed, such that exact tensor functors $V_t \longrightarrow C$ classify dualizable $t$-dimensional objects in $C$ not annihilated by any Schur functor. This means that $V_t$ is the "abelian envelope" of the Deligne category $Rep(GL_t)$. Any tensor functor $Rep(GL_t)\longrightarrow C$ is proved to factor either through $V_t$ or through one of the classical categories $Rep(GL(m|n))$ with $m-n=t$. The universal property of $V_t$ implies that it is equivalent to the categories $Rep_{Rep(GL_{t_1})\otimes Rep(GL_{t_2})}(GL(X),ε)$, ($t=t_1+t_2$, $…
