We study the problem of classifying triangulated categories with finite-dimensional morphism spaces and finitely many indecomposables over an algebraically closed field. We obtain a new proof of the following result due to Xiao and Zhu: the Auslander-Reiten quiver of such a category is of the form $\mathbb{Z}Δ/G$ where $Δ$ is a disjoint union of simply laced Dynkin diagrams and $G$ a weakly admissible group of automorphisms of $\mathbb{Z}Δ$. Then we prove that for `most' groups $G$, the category $\T$ is standard, \emph{i.e.} $k$-linearly equivalent to an orbit category $\mathcal{D}^b(\modd kΔ)/Φ$. This happens in particular when $\T$ is maximal $d$-Calabi-Yau with $d\geq2$. Moreover, if $\T$ is standard and algebraic, we can even construct a triangle equivalence between $\T$ and the corresponding orbit category. Finally we give a sufficient condition for the category of projectives of a Frobenius category to be triangulated. This allows us to construct non standard 1-Calabi-Yau categories using deformed preprojective algebras of generalized Dynkin type.
C. Amiot has classified the connected triangulated k-categories with finitely many isoclasses of indecomposables satisfying suitable hypotheses. We remark that her proof shows that these triangulated categories are determined by their underlying k-linear categories. We observe that if the connectedness assumption is dropped, the triangulated categories are still determined by their underlying k-categories together with the action of the suspension functor on the set of isoclasses of indecomposables.
We prove that if the Auslander-Reiten triangles generate the relations for the Grothendieck group of a Hom-finite Krull-Schmidt triangulated category with a (co)generator, then the category has only finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable objects up to translation. This gives a triangulated converse to a theorem of Butler and Auslander-Reiten on the relations for Grothendieck groups. Our approach has applications in the context of Frobenius categories.
Starting from an arbitrary cluster-tilting object $T$ in a 2-Calabi--Yau category over an algebraically closed field, as in the setting of Keller and Reiten, we define, for each object $L$, a fraction $X(T,L)$ using a formula proposed by Caldero and Keller. We show that the map taking $L$ to $X(T,L)$ is a cluster character, i.e. that it satisfies a certain multiplication formula. We deduce that it induces a bijection, in the finite and the acyclic case, between the indecomposable rigid objects of the cluster category and the cluster variables, which confirms a conjecture of Caldero and Keller.
For a Calabi-Yau triangulated category $\mathcal{C}$ of Calabi-Yau dimension $d$ with a $d-$cluster tilting subcategory $\mathcal{T}$, it is proved that the decomposition of $\mathcal{C}$ is determined by the special decomposition of $\mathcal{T}$, namely, $\mathcal{C}=\oplus_{i\in I}\mathcal{C}_i$, where $\mathcal{C}_i, i\in I$ are triangulated subcategories, if and only if $\mathcal{T}=\oplus_{i\in I}\mathcal{T}_i,$ where $\mathcal{T}_i, i\in I$ are subcategories with $Hom_{\mathcal{C}}(\mathcal{T}_i[t],\mathcal{T}_j)=0, \forall 1\leq t\leq d-2$ and $i\not= j.$ This induces that the Gabriel …
In this note, we survey two instances in the representation theory of finite-dimensional algebras where the quantity of a type of structures is intimately related to the size of those same structures. More explicitly, we review the fact that (1) a finite-dimensional algebra admits only finitely many indecomposable modules up to isomorphism if and only if every indecomposable module is finite-dimensional; (2) the category of modules over a finite-dimensional algebra admits only finitely many torsion classes if and only if every torsion class is generated by a finite-dimensional module.
In this article we classify indecomposable objects of the derived categories of finitely-generated modules over certain infinite-dimensional algebras. The considered class of algebras (which we call nodal algebras) contains such well-known algebras as the complete ring of a double nodal point $\kk[[x,y]]/(xy)$ and the completed path algebra of the Gelfand quiver. As a corollary we obtain a description of the derived category of Harish-Chandra modules over $SL_{2}({\mathbb R})$. We also give an algorithm, which allows to construct projective resolutions of indecomposable complexes. In the appen…
For an exact category $\mathcal{E}$, we study the Butler's condition "AR=Ex": the relation of the Grothendieck group of $\mathcal{E}$ is generated by Auslander-Reiten conflations. Under some assumptions, we show that AR=Ex is equivalent to that $\mathcal{E}$ has finitely many indecomposables. This can be applied to functorially finite torsion(free) classes and contravariantly finite resolving subcategories of the module category of an artin algebra, and the category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over an order which is Gorenstein or has finite global dimension. Also we showed that under some weaker…
For any ring R we construct two triangulated categories, each admitting a functor from R-modules that sends projective and injective modules to 0. When R is a quasi-Frobenius or Gorenstein ring, these triangulated categories agree with each other and with the usual stable module category. Our stable module categories are homotopy categories of Quillen model structures on the category of R-modules. These model categories involve generalizations of Gorenstein projective and injective modules that we derive by replacing finitely presented modules by modules of type FP-infinity. Along the way, we …
In our previous papers we introduced categorical invariants, which are, roughly speaking, sets of triangulated subcategories in a given triangulated category and their quotients. Here is extended the list of examples, where these sets are finite. Using results by Geigle, Lenzning, Meltzer, Hübner for weighted projective lines we show that for any two affine acyclic quivers $Q$, $Q'$ (i.e. quivers of extended Dynkin type) there are only finitely many full triangulated subctegories in $D^b(Rep_{\mathbb K}(Q))$, which are equivalent to $D^b(Rep_{\mathbb K}(Q'))$, where ${\mathbb K}$ is an algebra…
We prove that some subquotient categories of exact categories are abelian. This generalizes a result by Koenig-Zhu in the case of (algebraic) triangulated categories. As a particular case, if an exact category B with enough projectives and injectives has a cluster tilting subcategory M, then B/M is abelian. More precisely, it is equivalent to the category of finitely presented modules over the stable category of M.
Given a locally coherent Grothendieck category G, we prove that the homotopy category of complexes of injective objects (also known as the coderived category of G) is compactly generated triangulated. Moreover, the full subcategory of compact objects is none other than D^b(fp G). If G admits a generating set of finitely presentable objects of finite projective dimension, then also the derived category of G is compactly generated and Krause's recollement exists. Our main tools are (a) model theoretic techniques and (b) a systematic study of the pure derived category of an additive finitely acce…
This note proposes a new method to complete a triangulated category, which is based on the notion of a Cauchy sequence. We apply this to categories of perfect complexes. It is shown that the bounded derived category of finitely presented modules over a right coherent ring is the completion of the category of perfect complexes. The result extends to non-affine noetherian schemes and gives rise to a direct construction of the singularity category. The parallel theory of completion for abelian categories is compatible with the completion of derived categories. There are three appendices. The firs…
We prove that one can realize certain triangulated subcategories of the singularity category of a complete intersection as homotopy categories of matrix factorizations. Moreover, we prove that for any commutative ring and non-zerodivisor, the homotopy category of matrix factorizations embeds into the homotopy category of totally acyclic complexes of finitely generated projective modules over the factor ring.
