Two constructions are given that describe respectively all shortest primary decompositions and all shortest uniform decompositions for left Noetherian rings. They show that these decompositions are, in general, highly non-unique.
Two criteria are given for a ring to have a left Noetherian left quotient ring (this was an open problem since 70's). It is proved that each such ring has only finitely many maximal left denominator sets.
Let $k$ be an uncountable algebraically closed field and let $A$ be a countably generated left Noetherian $k$-algebra. Then we show that $A \otimes_k K$ is left Noetherian for any field extension $K$ of $k$. We conclude that all subfields of the quotient division algebra of a countably generated left Noetherian domain over $k$ are finitely generated extensions of $k$. We give examples which show that $A\otimes_k K$ need not remain left Noetherian if the hypotheses are weakened.
We consider the Noetherian properties of the ring of differential operators of an affine semigroup algebra. First we show that it is always right Noetherian. Next we give a condition, based on the data of the difference between the semigroup and its scored closure, for the ring of differential operators being anti-isomorphic to another ring of differential operators. Using this, we prove that the ring of differential operators is left Noetherian if the condition is satisfied. Moreover we give some other conditions for the ring of differential operators being left Noetherian. Finally we conject…
We define when a noetherian ring R is called a right ( or a left) weakly krull symmetric ring . We then prove that if R is a right ( or a left ) krull homogenous ring then R is a right ( or a left ) weakly krull symmetric ring . This result modifies the main result of [2] . The key terms introduced in this paper are of independent interest .
We investigate left k-Noetherian and left k-Artinian semirings. We characterize such semirings using i-injective semimodules. We prove in particular, a partial version of the celebrated Bass-Papp Theorem for semiring. We illustrate our main results by examples and counter examples.
In this paper for a noetherian ring R with nilradical N we define semiprime ideals P and Q called as the left and right krull homogenous parts of N . We also recall the known definitions of localisability and the weak ideal invariance (w.i.i for short ) of an ideal of a noetherian ring R . We then state and prove results that culminate in our main theorem whose statement is given below ; Theorem :- Let R be a noetherian ring with nilradical N . Let P and Q be semiprime ideals of R that are the right and left krull homogenous parts of N respectively . Then the following conditions are equivalen…
We uncover a connection between the model-theoretic notion of superstability and that of noetherian rings and pure-semisimple rings. We characterize noetherian rings via superstability of the class of left modules with embeddings. $\mathbf{Theorem.}$ For a ring $R$ the following are equivalent. - $R$ is left noetherian. - The class of left $R$-modules with embeddings is superstable. - For every $λ\geq |R| + \aleph_0$, there is $χ\geq λ$ such that the class of left $R$-modules with embeddings has uniqueness of limit models of cardinality $χ$. - Every limit model in the class of left $R$-modules…
We show that free algebras of the variety of algebras generated by the Witt algebra $W_n$, the left-symmetric Witt algebra $L_n$, and the symplectic Poisson algebra $P_n$ can be described as subalgebras of differential polynomial algebras with respect to appropriately defined products. Using these representations, we prove that $W_n$, $L_n$, $P_n$, and the free algebras of the varieties of algebras generated by these algebras are equationally Noetherian.
Let X be a projective variety, $σ$ an automorphism of X, L a $σ$-ample invertible sheaf on X, and Z a closed subscheme of X. Inside the twisted homogeneous coordinate ring $B = B(X, L, σ)$, let I be the right ideal of sections vanishing at Z. We study the subring R = k + I of B. Under mild conditions on Z and $σ$, R is the idealizer of I in B: the maximal subring of B in which I is a two-sided ideal. We give geometric conditions on Z and $σ$ that determine the algebraic properties of R, and show that if Z and $σ$ are sufficiently general, in a sense we make precise, then R is left and right no…
It is proved that a ring $R$ is a right uniserial, right Noetherian centrally essential ring if and only if $R$ is a commutative discrete valuation domain or a left and right Artinian, left and right uniserial ring. It is also proved that there exist non-commutative uniserial Artinian centrally essential rings. Victor Markov is supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, project 17-01-00895-A. A torsion theoretical characterization of left Noetherian rings $R$ over which injective hulls of simple left modules are locally Artinian is given. Sufficient conditions for a left Noetherian ring to satisfy this finiteness condition are obtained in terms of torsion theories.
Let R be an associative ring with identity. We study an elementary generalization of the classical Zariski topology, applied to the set of isomorphism classes of simple left R-modules (or, more generally, simple objects in a complete abelian category). Under this topology the points are closed, and when R is left noetherian the corresponding topological space is noetherian. If R is commutative (or PI, or FBN) the topology is equivalent to the Zariski topology, and when R is the first Weyl algebra (in characteristic zero) we obtain a one-dimensional irreducible noetherian topological space. Com…
Let R be a ring with identity, (M;\leq) a commutative positive strictly ordered monoid and w_m an automorphism for each m \in M . The skew generalized power series ring R[[M,w]] is a common generalization of (skew) polynomial rings, (skew) power series rings, (skew) Laurent polynomial rings, (skew) group rings, and Mal'cev Neumann Laurent series rings. If S\subset R is a multiplicative set, then R is called right S-Noetherian, if for each ideal I of R, Is \subseteq J\subseteq I for some s\in S and some finitely generated right ideal J . Unifying and generalizing a number of known results, we s…
In this paper we introduce the definition of a noetherian disjoint ring and that of a noetherian non-disjoint ring . For a noetherian ring R , with nilradical N if P and Q represent the semiprime ideals of R called as the right and the left krull-homogenous parts of N as defined in [8] , then we prove the main theorem of this paper for the ring R whose statement is given below. Main Theorem :- Let R be a Noetherian ring with nilradical N . Let P and Q represent the right and the left krull-homogenous parts of N . Then the following hold true for the ring R ; (a) If R is a disjoint ring , then …
Whereas Holm proved that the ring of differential operators on a generic hyperplane arrangement is finitely generated as an algebra, the problem of its Noetherian properties is still open. In this article, after proving that the ring of differential operators on a central arrangement is right Noetherian if and only if it is left Noetherian, we prove that the ring of differential operators on a central 2-arrangement is Noetherian. In addition, we prove that its graded ring associated to the order filtration is not Noetherian when the number of the consistuent hyperplanes is greater than 1.
Let $k$ be a field. We show that a finitely generated simple Goldie $k$-algebra of quadratic growth is noetherian and has Krull dimension 1. Thus a simple algebra of quadratic growth is left noetherian if and only if it is right noetherian. As a special case, we see that if A is a finitely generated simple domain of quadratic growth then A is noetherian and by a result of Stafford every right and left ideal is generated by at most two elements. We conclude by posing questions and giving examples in which we consider what happens when the hypotheses are relaxed.
In this note we show that if a noetherian ring R is left and right Krull-homogenous and if: Λ={P\textexclamdown ε spec.R/ |R/P\textexclamdown|_r =|R|_r} and v ={Qj ε spec.R| |R/Qj|l=|R|l} and P =\cap P\textexclamdownε ΛP\textexclamdown and Q = \cap QjεVQj then the following hold true; (1) Pn =0, for some integer n\geq1 (2) Λ=v
It is proved that a ring $A$ is a right or left Noetherian, right distributive centrally essential ring if and only if $A=A_1\times\cdots\times A_n$, where each of the rings $A_i$ is either a commutative Dedekind domain or a uniserial Artinian centrally essential (not necessarily commutative) ring. Let $Λ$ be a left and right noetherian ring and $\mod Λ$ the category of finitely generated left $Λ$-modules. In this paper we show the following results: (1) For a positive integer $k$, the condition that the subcategory of $\mod Λ$ consisting of $i$-torsionfree modules coincides with the subcategory of $\mod Λ$ consisting of $i$-syzygy modules for any $1\leq i \leq k$ is left-right symmetric. (2) If $Λ$ is an Auslander ring and $N$ is in $\mod Λ^{op}$ with $\grade N=k<\infty$, then $N$ is pure of grade $k$ if and only if $N$ can be embedded into a finite direct sum of copies of the $(k+1)$st…
Consider the obvious functor from the unbounded derived category of all finitely generated modules over a left noetherian ring $R$ to the unbounded derived category of all modules. We answer the natural question whether this functor defines an equivalence onto the full subcategory of complexes with finitely generated cohomology modules in two special cases. If $R$ is a quasi-Frobenius ring of infinite global dimension, then this functor is not full. If $R$ has finite left global dimension, this functor is an equivalence. We also prove variants of the latter assertion for left coherent rings, f…
Let $k$ be a field and let $R$ be a left noetherian $k$-algebra. The algebra $R$ satisfies the Dixmier-Moeglin equivalence if the annihilators of irreducible representations are precisely those prime ideals that are locally closed in the ${\rm Spec}(R)$ and if, moreover, these prime ideals are precisely those whose extended centres are algebraic extensions of the base field. We show that if $R$ and $S$ are two left noetherian $k$-algebras with ${\rm dim}_k(R), {\rm dim}_k(S)<|k|$ then if $R$ and $S$ have homeomorphic spectra then $R$ satisfies the Dixmier-Moeglin equivalence if and only if $S$…
In this paper we study (non-commutative) rings $R$ over which every finitely generated left module is a direct sum of cyclic modules (called left FGC-rings). The commutative case was a well-known problem studied and solved in 1970s by various authors. It is shown that a Noetherian local left FGC-ring is either an Artinian principal left ideal ring, or an Artinian principal right ideal ring, or a prime ring over which every two-sided ideal is principal as a left and a right ideal. In particular, it is shown that a Noetherian local duo-ring $R$ is a left FGC-ring if and only if $R$ is a right FG…
An analogue of Hilbert's Syzygy Theorem is proved for the algebra $\mS_n (A)$ of one-sided inverses of the polynomial algebra $A[x_1, ..., x_n]$ over an arbitrary ring $A$: $$ \lgldim (\mS_n(A))= \lgldim (A) +n.$$ The algebra $\mS_n(A)$ is noncommutative, neither left nor right Noetherian and not a domain. The proof is based on a generalization of the Theorem of Kaplansky (on the projective dimension) obtained in the paper. As a consequence it is proved that for a left or right Noetherian algebra $A$: $$ \wdim (\mS_n(A))= \wdim (A) +n.$$
We prove that for a noetherian semilocal ring $R$ with exactly $k$ isomorphism classes of simple right modules the monoid $V^*(R)$ of isomorphism classes of countably generated projective right (left) modules, viewed as a submonoid of $V^*(R/J(R))$, is isomorphic to the monoid of solutions in $(\No \cup\{\infty\})^k$ of a system consisting of congruences and diophantine linear equations. The converse also holds, that is, if $M$ is a submonoid of $(\No \cup\{\infty\})^k$ containing an order unit $(n_1,..., n_k)$ of $\No^k$ which is the set of solutions of a system of congruences and linear diop…
Let $α= \{ α_g : R_{g^{-1}} \rightarrow R_g \}_{g \in \textrm{mor}(G)}$ be a partial action of a groupoid $G$ on a non-associative ring $R$ and let $S = R \star_α G$ be the associated partial skew groupoid ring. We show that if $α$ is global and unital, then $S$ is left (right) artinian if and only if $R$ is left (right) artinian and $R_g = \{ 0 \},$ for all but finitely many $g \in \textrm{mor}(G)$. We use this result to prove that if $α$ is unital and $R$ is alternative, then $S$ is left (right) artinian if and only if $R$ is left (right) artinian and $R_g = \{ 0 \},$ for all but finitely ma…
Let $A$ be an associative non-positive differential graded ring. In this paper we make a detailed study of a category $\operatorname{\mathsf{Inj}}(A)$ of left DG-modules over $A$ which generalizes the category of injective modules over a ring. We give many characterizations of this category, generalizing the theory of injective modules, and prove a derived version of the Bass-Papp theorem: the category $\operatorname{\mathsf{Inj}}(A)$ is closed in the derived category $\operatorname{\mathsf{D}}(A)$ under arbitrary direct sums if and only if the ring $\mathrm{H}^0(A)$ is left noetherian and for…
Let $R$ be a ring. It is proved that $(\mathcal{GP}(R), \mathcal{GP}(R)^\bot)$ is a complete hereditary cotorsion pair, where $\mathcal{GP}(R)$ denotes the class of the Gorenstein projective left $R$-modules. Then we get that each left $R$-module has a special Gorenstein projective precover. As an application, we prove that all Gorenstein projective left $R$-modules are Gorenstein flat over left noetherian rings.

Let a monoid $S$ act on a ring $R$ by injective endomorphisms and $A=A(R,S)$ denote the $S$-Cohn-Jordan extension of $R$. Some results relating finiteness conditions of $R$ and that of $A$ are presented. In particular necessary and sufficient conditions for $A$ to be left noetherian, to be left Bézout and to be left principal ideal ring are presented.
A ring R shall be called F-noetherian if every finite subset of R is contained in a (left and right) noetherian subring of R . For example, every commutative ring is tightly F-noetherian in the sense that every finite subset of R generates a noetherian subring of R . F-noetherian rings have many interesting linear algebra properties which we refer to as the full strong rank condition, fully stably finite, and more generally the basic condition. We also study some basic ring-theoretic properties of F-noetherian rings such as localizations of F-noetherian rings. The F-noetherian property is pres…
Let C be a commutative noetherian domain, G be a finitely generated abelian group which acts on C and B = C#G be the skew group ring. For a prime ideal I in C, we study the largest subring of B in which the right ideal IB becomes a two-sided ideal - the idealiser subring. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for when this idealiser subring is left and right noetherian. We also give an example of these conditions in practice which translates to an interesting number theoretic problem.
In the past, it has been shown that the Leavitt path algebra $L(E)=L_K(E)$ of a graph $E$ over a field $K$ is left and right noetherian if and only if the graph $E$ is finite and no cycle of $E$ has an exit. If $Q(E)=Q_K(E)$ denotes the regular algebra over $L(E),$ we prove that these conditions are further equivalent with any of the following: $L(E)$ contains no infinite set of orthogonal idempotents, $L(E)$ has finite uniform dimension, $L(E)$ is directly finite, $Q(E)$ is directly finite, $Q(E)$ is unit-regular, and a few more equivalences. In addition, if the involution on $K$ is positive …
The algebra $\mS_n$ in the title is obtained from a polynomial algebra $P_n$ in $n$ variables by adding commuting, {\em left} (but not two-sided) inverses of the canonical generators of $P_n$. Ignoring non-Noetherian property, the algebra $\mS_n$ belongs to a family of algebras like the Weyl algebra $A_n$ and the polynomial algebra $P_{2n}$. The group of automorphisms $G_n$ of the algebra $\mS_n$ is found: $$ G_n=S_n\ltimes \mT^n\ltimes \Inn (\mS_n) \supseteq S_n\ltimes \mT^n\ltimes \underbrace{\GL_\infty (K)\ltimes... \ltimes \GL_\infty (K)}_{2^n-1 {\rm times}}=:G_n' $$ where $S_n$ is the sym…
It is proved that, for a left hereditary ring, an arbitrary left module has a representation in the form of the direct sum of a stable left module and indecomposable projective left modules (if and only if an arbitrary left module has a representation in the form of the direct sum of a stable left module and a projective left module) if and only if the ring is left perfect and right coherent. In that case, the above-mentioned representations are unique up to isomorphism; the latter representation is also functorial. The essential ingredient in the proofs of the above-mentioned statements is a …
In this paper we prove that if R is a left Noetherian and left regular ring such that all finitely generated projective left R-modules are stably free, then the same is true for the completion R[[x;σ,δ]] of any Ore extension R[x;σ,δ] of R. Additionally assumes certain natural conditions for σand δfor ensure that this completion are good defined. The proof compares the Grothendieck groups K_{0} of R and S using some results find in [3], [6], [7] and [9].
For a finite ring $R$, not necessarily commutative, we prove that the category of $\text{VIC}(R)$-modules over a left Noetherian ring $\mathbf{k}$ is locally Noetherian, generalizing a theorem of the authors that dealt with commutative $R$. As an application, we prove a very general twisted homology stability for $\text{GL}_n(R)$ with $R$ a finite noncommutative ring.
Stafford proved that every left or right ideal of the Weyl algebra A_n(K) is generated by two elements. In this paper we prove that every left or right ideal of the ring of differential operators over the field of formal Laurent series K((x_1,...,x_n)) is also generated by two elements. The same is true for the ring of differential operators over the convergent Laurent series C{x_1,...,x_n}. This is in accordance with the conjecture that says that in a (noncommutative) noetherian simple ring, every left or right ideal is generated by two elements.
Let $V$ be a finite-dimensional positively-graded vector space. Let $b \in V \otimes V$ be a homogeneous element whose rank is $\text{dim}(V)$. Let $A=TV/(b)$, the quotient of the tensor algebra $TV$ modulo the 2-sided ideal generated by $b$. Let ${\sf gr}(A)$ be the category of finitely presented graded left $A$-modules and ${\sf fdim}(A)$ its full subcategory of finite dimensional modules. Let ${\sf qgr}(A)$ be the quotient category ${\sf gr}(A)/{\sf fdim}(A)$. We compute the Grothendieck group $K_0({\sf qgr}(A))$. In particular, if the reciprocal of the Hilbert series of $A$, which is a pol…
Let $A$ be a ring with minimum condition on principal right ideals. It is proved that $\aleph_0$-distributive right (left) $A$-modules coincide with Artinian (Noetherian) right (left) $A$-modules. Rings, over which all right modules are direct sums of $\aleph_0$-distributive coincide with rings of of finite representation type. Rings, whose right modules are semidistributive, coincide with Kawada rings, over basis rings of which all right modules are completely cyclic. The studies of Tuganbaev are supported by Russian Scientific Foundation, project 22-11-00052.
For a module-finite algebra over a commutative noetherian ring, we give a complete description of flat cotorsion modules in terms of prime ideals of the algebra, as a generalization of Enochs' result for a commutative noetherian ring. As a consequence, we show that pointwise Matlis duality gives a bijective correspondence between the isoclasses of indecomposable injective left modules and the isoclasses of indecomposable flat cotorsion right modules. This correspondence is an explicit realization of Herzog's homeomorphism induced from elementary duality of Ziegler spectra.
The Faith-Menal conjecture says that every strongly right $Johns$ ring is $QF$. The conjecture is also equivalent to say every right noetherian left $FP$-injective ring is $QF$. In this short article, we show that the conjecture is true under the condition(a proper generalization of left $CS$ condition)that every nonzero complement left ideal is not small(a left ideal $I$ is called small if for every left ideal $K$, $K$+$I$=$R$ implies $K$=$R$). It is also proved that (1) $R$ is $QF$ if and only if $R$ is a left and right mininjective ring with $ACC$ on right annihilators in which $S_{r}\subse…
The notion of ring endomorphisms having large images is introduced. Among others, injectivity and surjectivity of such endomorphisms are studied. It is proved, in particular, that an endomorphism S of a prime one-sided noetherian ring R is injective whenever the image S (R) contains an essential left ideal L of R. If additionally S(L) = L, then S is an automorphism of R. Examples showing that the assumptions imposed on R can not be weakened to R being a prime left Goldie ring are provided. Two open questions are formulated.
Let $X$ be a scheme, proper over a commutative noetherian ring $A$. We introduce the concept of an ample filter of invertible sheaves on $X$ and generalize the most important equivalent criteria for ampleness of an invertible sheaf. We also prove the Theorem of the Base for $X$ and generalize Serre's Vanishing Theorem. We then generalize results for twisted homogeneous coordinate rings which were previously known only when $X$ was projective over an algebraically closed field. Specifically, we show that the concepts of left and right $σ$-ampleness are equivalent and that the associated twisted…
For any ring $R$ and any positive integer $n$, we prove that a left $R$-module is a Gorenstein $n$-syzygy if and only if it is an $n$-syzygy. Over a left and right Noetherian ring, we introduce the notion of the Gorenstein transpose of finitely generated modules. We prove that a module $M\in \mod R^{op}$ is a Gorenstein transpose of a module $A\in \mod R$ if and only if $M$ can be embedded into a transpose of $A$ with the cokernel Gorenstein projective. Some applications of this result are given.
Let $R$ be a left noetherian ring, $S$ a right noetherian ring and $_RU$ a generalized tilting module with $S={\rm End}(_RU)$. The injective dimensions of $_RU$ and $U_S$ are identical provided both of them are finite. Under the assumption that the injective dimensions of $_RU$ and $U_S$ are finite, we describe when the subcategory $\{{\rm Ext}_S^n(N, U)|N$ is a finitely generated right $S$-module$\}$ is closed under submodules. As a consequence, we obtain a negative answer to a question posed by Auslander in 1969. Finally, some partial answers to Wakamatsu Tilting Conjecture are given.

We prove that if R is a left Noetherian and left regular ring then the same is true for any bijective skew PBW extension A of R. From this we get Serre's Theorem for such extensions. We show that skew PBW extensions and its localizations include a wide variety of rings and algebras of interest for modern mathematical physics such as PBW extensions, well known classes of Ore algebras, operator algebras, diffusion algebras, quantum algebras, quadratic algebras in 3-variables, skew quantum polynomials, among many others. We estimate the global, Krull and Goldie dimensions, and also Quillen's K-gr…
Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and let $\mathcal D(R)$ be its (unbounded) derived category. We show that all compactly generated t-structures in $\mathcal D(R)$ associated to a left bounded filtration by supports of Spec$(R)$ have a heart which is a Grothendieck category. Moreover, we identify all compactly generated t-structures in $\mathcal D(R)$ whose heart is a module category. As geometric consequences for a compactly generated t-structure $(\mathcal{U},\mathcal{U}^\perp [1])$ in the derived category $\mathcal{D}(\mathbb{X})$ of a Noetherian scheme $\mathbb{X}$, we get the follo…
A cohomological support, Supp_A(M), is defined for finitely generated modules M over an left noetherian ring R, with respect to a ring A of central cohomology operations on the derived category of R-modules. It is proved that if the A-module Ext^R(M,M) is noetherian and Ext_i^R(M,R)=0 for i>>0, then every closed subset of Supp_A(M) is the support of some finitely generated R-module. This theorem specializes to known realizability results for varieties of modules over group algebras, over local complete intersections, and over finite dimensional algebras over a field. The theorem is also used t…
MacWilliams proved that every finite field has the extension property for Hamming weight which was later extended in a seminal work by Wood who characterized finite Frobenius rings as precisely those rings which satisfy the MacWilliams extension property. In this paper, the question of when is a MacWilliams ring quasi-Frobenius is addressed. It is proved that a right or left noetherian left 1-MacWilliams ring is quasi-Frobenius thus answering the different questions asked in [M. C. This paper contains a survey of some ring-theoretic aspects of quantized coordinate rings, with primary focus on the prime and primitive spectra. For these algebras, the overall structure of the prime spectrum is governed by a partition into strata determined by the action of a suitable group of automorphisms of the algebra. We discuss this stratification in detail, as well as its use in determining the primitive spectrum -- under suitable conditions, the primitive ideals are precisely those prime ideals which are maximal within their strata. The discussion then turns to the global structure o…
