It is proved that, for a left hereditary ring, an arbitrary left module has a representation in the form of the direct sum of a stable left module and indecomposable projective left modules (if and only if an arbitrary left module has a representation in the form of the direct sum of a stable left module and a projective left module) if and only if the ring is left perfect and right coherent. In that case, the above-mentioned representations are unique up to isomorphism; the latter representation is also functorial. The essential ingredient in the proofs of the above-mentioned statements is a certain purely categorical result. These statements, in particular, imply that, for any principal ideal domain that is not a field, the fundamental theorem on finitely generated modules over it can not be generalized to the case of all modules. Moreover, with the aid of the above-mentioned categorical approach, we give a new proof of the Zheng-Xu He's result asserting that any module of a ring has a unique up to isomorphism injective-costable decomposition if and only if the ring is left hereditary and left Noetherian. The above-mentioned statements, in particular, imply that if the category of left modules over a left hereditary ring is Krull-Schmidt, then the ring is left Artinian. Yet another criterion for a ring to be left hereditary, left perfect and right coherent (resp. left hereditary left Noetherian) found in the paper requires that the pair $(Stable$ $modules$, $Projective$ $modules)$ (resp. $(Injective$ $Modules, Costable$ $ Modules)$) of module classes be a pre-torsion theory. This implies that the pair $(Stable$ $modules$, $Projective$ $modules)$ is a torsion theory if and only if the ring is left hereditary and the injective envelope of the ring, viewed as a left module over itself, is projective.
Let $\mathcal{X}$ be a class of $R$-modules. In this paper, we investigate \;$\mathcal{X}$-(f.g.)injective ((f.g.)projective) and DG-$\mathcal{X}$-injective (projective) complexes which are generalizations of injective (projective) and DG-injective (projective) complexes. We prove that some known results can be extended to the class of \;$\mathcal{X}$-(f.g.)injective ((f.g.)projective) and DG-$\mathcal{X}$-injective (projective) complexes for this general settings.
We describe rings over which every right module is almost injective. We give a description of rings over which every simple module is a almost projective.
We prove that if a positively-graded ring $R$ is Gorenstein and the associated torsion functor has finite cohomological dimension, then the corresponding noncommutative projective scheme ${\rm Tails}(R)$ is a Gorenstein category in the sense of \cite{EEG}. Moreover, under this condition, a (right) recollement relating Gorenstein-injective sheaves in ${\rm Tails}(R)$ and (graded) Gorenstein-injective $R$-modules is given.
In this paper, we study the relation between $m$-strongly Gorenstein projective (resp. injective) modules and $n$-strongly Gorenstein projective (resp. injective) modules whenever $m \neq n$, and the homological behavior of $n$-strongly Gorenstein projective (resp. injective) modules. We introduce the notion of $n$-strongly Gorenstein flat modules. Then we study the homological behavior of $n$-strongly Gorenstein flat modules, and the relation between these modules and $n$-strongly Gorenstein projective (resp. injective) modules.
We give a result of Auslander-Ringel-Tachikawa type for Gorenstein-projective modules over a complete Gorenstein order. In particular, we prove that a complete Gorenstein order is of finite Cohen-Macaulay representation type if and only if every indecomposable pure-injective object in the stable category of Gorenstein-projective modules is compact.
For a certain finite graph E, we consider the corresponding finite dimensional algebra A with radical square zero. An explicit compact generator for the homotopy category of acyclic complexes of injective (resp. projective) modules over A, called the injective (resp. projective) Leavitt complex of E, was constructed in [18] (resp. [19]). We overview the connection between the injective (resp. projective) Leavitt complex and the Leavitt path algebra of E. A differential graded bimodule structure, which is right quasi-balanced, is endowed to the injective (resp. projective) Leavitt complex in [1…
Let $\mathscr{A}$ be an abelian category having enough projective and injective objects, and let $\mathscr{T}$ be an additive subcategory of $\mathscr{A}$ closed under direct summands. A known assertion is that in a short exact sequence in $\mathscr{A}$, the $\mathscr{T}$-projective (respectively, $\mathscr{T}$-injective) dimensions of any two terms can sometimes induce an upper bound of that of the third term by using the same comparison expressions. We show that if $\mathscr{T}$ contains all projective (respectively, injective) objects of $\mathscr{A}$, then the above assertion holds true if…
Recently, in a series of papers "simple" versions of direct-injective and direct-projective modules have been investigated. These modules are termed as "simple-direct-injective" and "simple-direct-projective", respectively. In this paper, we give a complete characterization of the aforementioned modules over the ring of integers and over semilocal rings. The ring is semilocal if and only if every right module with zero Jacobson radical is simple-direct-projective. The rings whose simple-direct-injective right modules are simple-direct-projective are fully characterized. These are exactly the l…
We show that the term equivalence between MV-algebras and MV-semirings lifts to involutive residuated lattices and a class of semirings called \textit{involutive semirings}. The semiring perspective helps us find a necessary and sufficient condition for the interval $[0,1]$ to be a subalgebra of an involutive residuated lattice. We also import some results and techniques of semimodule theory in the study of this class of semirings, generalizing results about injective and projective MV-semimodules. Indeed, we note that the involution plays a crucial role and that the results for MV-semirings a…
In this article we study injective representations of infinite quivers. We classify the indecomposable injective representations of trees and then describe Gorenstein injective and projective representations of barren trees.
Recently, Yekutieli introduced projective dimension and injective dimension of DG-modules by generalizing the characterization of projective dimension and injective dimension of ordinary modules by vanishing of Ext-group. In this paper, we introduce DG-version of projective resolution and injective resolution for DG-modules over a connective DG-algebra which are different from known DG-version of projective and injective resolutions. An important feature of these resolutions is that, roughly speaking, the "length" of these resolutions give projective or injective dimensions. We show that these…
In this paper, the notion of strongly G_C-projective and injective modules is introduced, where C is a semidualizing module. Using these modules we can obtain a new characterization of G_C-projective and injective modules, similar to the one of projective modules by the free modules. We then define and study the global dimensions of rings relative to a semidualizing module C, and prove that the global G_C-projective dimension of a ring R is equal to the global G_C-injective dimension of R.
A pair $(A, P)$ is called a cover of $\operatorname{End}_A(P)^{op}$ if the Schur functor $\operatorname{Hom}_A(P, -)$ is fully faithful on the full subcategory of projective $A$-modules, for a given projective $A$-module $P$. By definition, Morita algebras are the covers of self-injective algebras and then $P$ is a faithful projective-injective module. Conversely, we show that $A$ is a Morita algebra and $\operatorname{End}_A(P)^{op}$ is self-injective whenever $(A, P)$ is a cover of $\operatorname{End}_A(P)^{op}$ for a faithful projective-injective module $P$.
For a given class of modules $\mathcal{A}$, we denote by $\widetilde{\mathcal{A}}$ the class of exact complexes $X$ having all cycles in $\mathcal{A}$, and by $dw(\mathcal{A})$ the class of complexes $Y$ with all components $Y_j$ in $\mathcal{A}$. We use the notations $\mathcal{GI}$ $(\mathcal{GF}, \mathcal{GP})$ for the class of Gorenstein injective (Gorenstein flat, Gorenstein projective respectively) $R$-modules, $\mathcal{DI}$ for Ding injective modules, and $\mathcal{PGF}$ for projectively coresolved Gorenstein flat modules (see section 2 for definitions). We prove that the following are …
Gorenstein homological dimensions are refinements of the classical homological dimensions, and finiteness singles out modules with amenable properties reflecting those of modules over Gorenstein rings. As opposed to their classical counterparts, these dimensions do not immediately come with practical and robust criteria for finiteness, not even over commutative noetherian local rings. In this paper we enlarge the class of rings known to admit good criteria for finiteness of Gorenstein dimensions: It now includes, for instance, the rings encountered in commutative algebraic geometry and, in the…

In this paper we consider the locally self-injective property of the product FI$^m$ of the category FI of finite sets and injections. Explicitly, we prove that the external tensor product commutes with the coinduction functor, and hence preserves injective modules. As corollaries, every projective FI$^m$-modules over a field of characteristic 0 is injective, and the Serre quotient of the category of finitely generated FI$^m$-modules by the category of finitely generated torsion FI$^m$-modules is equivalent to the category of finite dimensional FI$^m$-modules.
Let $T=\biggl(\begin{matrix} A&0\\ U&B \end{matrix}\biggr)$ be a formal triangular matrix ring, where $A$ and $B$ are rings and $U$ is a $(B, A)$-bimodule. We prove that: (1) If $U_A$ and $_B U$ have finite flat dimensions, then a left $T$-module $\biggl(\begin{matrix} M_1\\ M_2\end{matrix}\biggr)_{φ^M}$ is Ding projective if and only if $M_1$ and $M_2/{\rm im}(φ^M)$ are Ding projective and the morphism $φ^M$ is a monomorphism. (2) If $T$ is a right coherent ring, $_{B}U$ has finite flat dimension, $U_{A}$ is finitely presented and has finite projective or $FP$-injective dimension, then a righ…
Absolutely clean and level $R$-modules were introduced in [BGH13] and used to show how Gorenstein homological algebra can be extended to an arbitrary ring $R$. This led to the notion of Gorenstein AC-injective and Gorenstein AC-projective $R$-modules. Here we study these concepts in the category of chain complexes of $R$-modules. We define, characterize and deduce properties of absolutely clean, level, Gorenstein AC-injective, and Gorenstein AC-projective chain complexes. We show that the category $\text{Ch}(R)$ of chain complexes has a cofibrantly generated model structure where every object …
In this paper we undertake a basic study on connective commutative differential graded algebras (CDGA), more precisely, piecewise Noetherian CDGA, which is a DG-counter part of commutative Noetherian algebra. We establish basic results for example, Auslaner-Buchsbaum formula and Bass formula without any unnecessary assumptions. The key notion is the sup-projective (sppj) and inf-injective (ifij) resolutions introduced by the author, which are DG-versions of the projective and injective resolution for ordinary modules. These are different from DG-projective and DG-injective resolutions which is…
The principle "Every result in classical homological algebra should have a counterpart in Gorenstein homological algebra" is given in [3]. There is a remarkable body of evidence supporting this claim (cf. [2] and [3]). Perhaps one of the most glaring exceptions is provided by the fact that tensor products of Gorenstein projective modules need not be Gorenstein projective, even over Gorenstein rings. So perhaps it is surprising that tensor products of Gorenstein injective modules over Gorenstein rings of finite Krull dimension are Gorenstein injective. Our main result is in support of the princ…
We introduce what is meant by an AC-Gorenstein ring. It is a generalized notion of Gorenstein ring which is compatible with the Gorenstein AC-injective and Gorenstein AC-projective modules of Bravo-Gillespie-Hovey. It is also compatible with the notion of $n$-coherent rings introduced by Bravo-Perez: So a $0$-coherent AC-Gorenstein ring is precisely a usual Gorenstein ring in the sense of Iwanaga, while a $1$-coherent AC-Gorenstein ring is precisely a Ding-Chen ring. We show that any AC-Gorenstein ring admits a stable module category that is compactly generated and is the homotopy category of …
For any ring R we construct two triangulated categories, each admitting a functor from R-modules that sends projective and injective modules to 0. When R is a quasi-Frobenius or Gorenstein ring, these triangulated categories agree with each other and with the usual stable module category. Our stable module categories are homotopy categories of Quillen model structures on the category of R-modules. These model categories involve generalizations of Gorenstein projective and injective modules that we derive by replacing finitely presented modules by modules of type FP-infinity. Along the way, we …
We investigate the notion of the C-projective dimension of a module, where C is a semidualizing module. When C=R, this recovers the standard projective dimension. We show that three natural definitions of finite C-projective dimension agree, and investigate the relationship between relative cohomology modules and absolute cohomology modules in this setting. Finally, we prove several results that demonstrate the deep connections between modules of finite projective dimension and modules of finite C-projective dimension. In parallel, we develop the dual theory for injective dimension and C-injec…
We investigate the properties of pure derived categories of module categories, and show that pure derived categories share many nice properties of classical derived categories. In particular, we show that bounded pure derived categories can be realized as certain homotopy categories. We introduce the pure projective (resp. injective) dimension of complexes in pure derived categories, and give some criteria for computing these dimensions in terms of the properties of pure projective (resp. injective) resolutions and pure derived functors. As a consequence, we get some equivalent characterizatio…
A right $R$-module $M$ is called max-projective provided that each homomorphism $f:M \to R/I$ where $I$ is any maximal right ideal, factors through the canonical projection $π: R \to R/I$. We call a ring $R$ right almost-$QF$ (resp. right max-$QF$) if every injective right $R$-module is $R$-projective (resp. max-projective). This paper attempts to understand the class of right almost-$QF$ (resp. right max-$QF$) rings. Among other results, we prove that a right Hereditary right Noetherian ring $R$ is right almost-$QF$ if and only if $R$ is right max-$QF$ if and only if $R=S\times T$ , where $S$…
In this paper, we construct an explicit minimal projective bimodule resolution of a self-injective special biserial algebra $A_{T}$ ($T\geq0$) whose Grothendieck group is of rank $4$. As a main result, we determine the dimension of the Hochschild cohomology group ${\rm HH}^{i}(A_{T})$ of $A_{T}$ for $i\geq0$, completely. Moreover we give a presentation of the Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotence ${\rm HH}^{*}(A_{T})/\mathcal{N}_{A_{T}}$ of $A_{T}$ by generators and relations in the case where $T=0$.
Let $R$ be a valuation ring and let $Q$ be its total quotient ring. It is proved that any singly projective (respectively flat) module is finitely projective if and only if $Q$ is maximal (respectively artinian). It is shown that each singly projective module is a content module if and only if any non-unit of $R$ is a zero-divisor and that each singly projective module is locally projective if and only if $R$ is self injective. Moreover, $R$ is maximal if and only if each singly projective module is separable, if and only if any flat content module is locally projective. Necessary and sufficie…
We show that a differential module is Gorenstein projective if and only if its underlying module is Gorenstein projective. Dually, a differential module is Gorenstein injective if and only if its underlying module is Gorenstein injective.
We describe a general correspondence between injective (resp. projective) recollements of triangulated categories and injective (resp. projective) cotorsion pairs. This provides a model category description of these recollement situations. Our applications focus on displaying several recollements that glue together various full subcategories of K(R), the homotopy category of chain complexes of modules over a general ring R. When R is (left) Noetherian ring, these recollements involve complexes built from the Gorenstein injective modules. When R is a (left) coherent ring for which all flat modu…
In this paper we study Rota-Baxter modules with emphasis on the role played by the Rota-Baxter operators and resulting difference between Rota-Baxter modules and the usual modules over an algebra. We introduce the concepts of free, projective, injective and flat Rota-Baxter modules. We give the construction of free modules and show that there are enough projective, injective and flat Rota-Baxter modules to provide the corresponding resolutions for derived functor.
Every cluster-tilted algebra $B$ is the relation extension $C\ltimes \text{Ext}^2_C(DC,C)$ of a tilted algebra $C$. A $B$-module is called induced if it is of the form $M\otimes_C B$ for some $C$-module $M$. We study the relation between the injective presentations of a $C$-module and the injective presentations of the induced $B$-module. Our main result is an explicit construction of the modules and morphisms in an injective presentation of any induced $B$-module. In the case where the $C$-module, and hence the $B$-module, is projective, our construction yields an injective resolution. In par…
The early papers of Hyman Bass in the late 50s and the early 60s leading up to his pioneering work in algebraic K-theory have played an important and very special role in ring theory and the theory of projective (and injective) modules. In this article, we give a general survey of Bass's fundamental contributions in this early period of his work, and explain how much this work has influenced and shaped the thinking of subsequent researchers in the area.
Let $R$ be a right and left Ore ring, $S$ its set of regular elements and $Q = R[S^{-1}] = [S^{-1}] R$ the classical ring of quotients of $R$. We prove that if F.dim$(Q_Q) = 0$, then the following conditions are equivalent: $(i)$ Flat right $R$-modules are strongly flat. $ (ii)$ Matlis-cotorsion right $R$-modules are Enochs-cotorsion. $(iii) $ $h$-divisible right $R$-modules are weak-injective. $(iv)$ Homomorphic images of weak-injective right $R$-modules are weak-injective. $(v)$ Homomorphic images of injective right $R$-modules are weak-injective. $(vi)$ Right $R$-modules of weak dimension $…
It is proved that every commutative ring whose RD-injective modules are $Σ$-RD-injective is the product of a pure semi-simple ring and a finite ring. A complete characterization of commutative rings for which each artinian (respectively simple) module is RD-injective, is given. These results can be obtained by using the properties of RD-flat modules and RD-coflat modules which are respectively the RD-relativization of flat modules and fp-injective modules. It is also shown that a commutative ring is perfect if and only if each RD-flat module is RD-projective.
Let $Λ$ be an Auslander's 1-Gorenstein Artinian algebra with global dimension two. If $Λ$ admits a trivial maximal 1-orthogonal subcategory of $\modΛ$, then for any indecomposable module $M \in \mod Λ$, we have that the projective dimension of $M$ is equal to one if and only if so is its injective dimension and that $M$ is injective if the projective dimension of $M$ is equal to two. In this case, we further get that $Λ$ is a tilted algebra.
Let $Λ$ be the path algebra of a finite quiver $Q$ over a finite-dimensional algebra $A$. Then $Λ$-modules are identified with representations of $Q$ over $A$. This yields the notion of monic representations of $Q$ over $A$. If $Q$ is acyclic, then the Gorenstein-projective $\m$-modules can be explicitly determined via the monic representations. As an application, $A$ is self-injective if and only if the Gorenstein-projective $\m$-modules are exactly the monic representations of $Q$ over $A$.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring, $π$ be a finite group, $Rπ$ be the group ring of $π$ over $R$. Theorem 1. If $R$ is a commutative artinian ring and $π$ is a finite group. Then the Cartan map $c:K_0(Rπ)\to G_0(Rπ)$ is injective. Theorem 2. Suppose that $R$ is a Dedekind domain with $\fn{char}R=p>0$ and $π$ is a $p$-group. Then every finitely generated projective $Rπ$-module is isomorphic to $F \oplus cA$ where $F$ is a free module and $cA$ is a projective ideal of $Rπ$. Moreover, $R$ is a principal ideal domain if and only if every finitely generated projective $Rπ$-module is isomorphic to a fre…
In this article we investigate the relations between the Gorenstein projective dimensions of $Λ$-modules and their socles for minimal n-Auslander-Gorenstein algebras $Λ$ in the sense of Iyama and Solberg \cite{IS}. First we give a description of projective-injective $Λ$-modules in terms of their socles. Then we prove that a $Λ$-module $N$ has Gorenstein projective dimension at most n iff its socle has Gorenstein projective dimension at most n iff $N$ is cogenerated by a projective $Λ$-module. Furthermore, we show that minimal n-Auslander-Gorenstein algebras can be characterised by the relation…
We say that an algebra A is periodic if it has a periodic projective resolution as an (A,A)-bimodule. We show that any self-injective algebra of finite representation type is periodic. To prove this, we first apply the theory of smash products to show that for a finite Galois covering B --> A, B is periodic if and only if A is. In addition, when A has finite representation type, we build upon results of Buchweitz to show that periodicity passes between A and its stable Auslander algebra. Finally, we use Asashiba's classification of the derived equivalence classes of self-injective algebras of …
