In this article, we study the family of probability measures (indexed by a positive real number t), obtained by penalization of the Brownian motion by a given functional of its local times at time t. We prove that this family tends to a limit measure when t goes to infinity if the functional satisfies some conditions of domination, and we check these conditions in several particular cases.
In this paper, we construct a family of probability measures, by penalizations of a Walsh Brownian motion with a weight dependent on its value and its local time at a time t. We prove that this family converges to a probability measure as t tends to infinity, and we study the behaviour of this limit measure.
We study a scaled version of a two-parameter Brownian penalization model introduced by Roynette-Vallois-Yor in arXiv:math/0511102. The original model penalizes Brownian motion with drift $h\in\mathbb{R}$ by the weight process ${\big(\exp(νS_t):t\geq 0\big)}$ where $ν\in\mathbb{R}$ and $\big(S_t:t\geq 0\big)$ is the running maximum of the Brownian motion. It was shown there that the resulting penalized process exhibits three distinct phases corresponding to different regions of the $(ν,h)$-plane. In this paper, we investigate the effect of penalizing the Brownian motion concurrently with scalin…
Results of penalization of a one-dimensional Brownian motion $(X_t) $, by its one-sided maximum $\dis (S_t=\sup_{0 \leq u \leq t}X_u)$, which were recently obtained by the authors are improved with the consideration-in the present paper- of the asymptotic behaviour of the likewise penalized Brownian bridges of length $t$, as $t\to \infty$, or penalizations by functions of $(S_t,X_t)$, and also the study of the speed of convergence, as $t\to \infty$, of the penalized distributions at time $t$.
We study some limit theorems for the normalized law of integrated Brownian motion perturbed by several examples of functionals: the first passage time, the nth passage time, the last passage time up to a finite horizon and the supremum. We show that the penalization principle holds in all these cases and give descriptions of the conditioned processes. In particular, it is remarkable that the penalization by the nth passage time is independent of n, and always gives the same conditioned process, i.e. integrated Brownian motion conditioned not to hit 0. Our results rely on some explicit formulae…
In this paper, we study the reflected backward stochastic differential equation driven by G-Brownian motion (reflected G-BSDE for short) with an upper obstacle. The existence is proved by approximation via penalization. By using a variant comparison theorem, we show that the solution we constructed is the largest one.
In this paper, we construct a family of probability measures, by penalizations of a Walsh's Brownian motion with a weight dependent on its value and its local time at a time t. We prove that this family converges to a probability measure as t tends to infinity, and we study the behaviour of this limit measure.
In this paper, we study the reflected solutions of one-dimensional backward stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion (RGBSDE for short). The reflection keeps the solution above a given stochastic process. In order to derive the uniqueness of reflected GBSDEs, we apply a "martingale condition" instead of the Skorohod condition. Similar to the classical case, we prove the existence by approximation via penalization.
In this paper, we study the reflected backward stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion with two reflecting obstacles, which means that the solution lies between two prescribed processes. A new kind of approximate Skorohod condition is proposed to derive the uniqueness and existence of the solutions. The uniqueness can be proved by a priori estimates and the existence is obtained via a penalization method.
In this paper, we consider the reflected backward stochastic differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion (reflected G-BSDEs) whose coefficients satisfy the beta-order Mao's condition. The uniqueness is obtained by some a priori estimates and the existence can be proved by two different methods. The first one is Picard iteration and the second one is approximation via penalization. The latter construction is useful to get the comparison theorem.
In this paper, we first review the penalization method for solving deterministic Skorokhod problems in non-convex domains and establish estimates for problems with $α$-Hölder continuous functions. With the help of these results obtained previously for deterministic problems, we pathwisely define the reflected $G$-Brownian motion and prove its existence and uniqueness in a Banach space. Finally, multi-dimensional reflected stochastic differential equations driven by $G$-Brownian motion are investigated via a fixed-point argument.
We consider the problem of conditioning the Brownian excursion to have a fixed time average over the interval [0,1] and we study an associated stochastic partial differential equation with reflection at 0 and with the constraint of conservation of the space average. The equation is driven by the derivative in space of a space-time white noise and contains a double Laplacian in the drift. Due to the lack of the maximum principle for the double Laplacian, the standard techniques based on the penalization method do not yield existence of a solution.
We introduce a discrete time reflected scheme to solve doubly reflected Backward Stochastic Differential Equations with jumps (in short DRBSDEs), driven by a Brownian motion and an independent compensated Poisson process. As in Dumitrescu-Labart (2014), we approximate the Brownian motion and the Poisson process by two random walks, but contrary to this paper, we discretize directly the DRBSDE, without using a penalization step. This gives us a fully implementable scheme, which only depends on one parameter of approximation: the number of time steps $n$ (contrary to the scheme proposed in Dumit…
We prove a general functional limit theorem for multiparameter fractional Brownian motion. The functional law of the iterated logarithm, functional Lévy's modulus of continuity and many other results are its particular cases. Applications to approximation theory are discussed.
By using Malliavin calculus, Bismut derivative formulae are established for a class of stochastic (functional) differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motions. As applications, Harnack type inequalities and strong Feller property are presented.
We prove a central limit theorem for functionals of two independent $d$-dimensional fractional Brownian motions with the same Hurst index $H$ in $(\frac{2}{d+1},\frac{2}{d})$ using the method of moments.
We discuss the distributions of three functionals of the free Brownian bridge: its $Ł^2$-norm, the second component of its signature and its Lévy area. All of these are freely infinitely divisible. We introduce two representations of the free Brownian bridge as series of free semicircular random variables are used, analogous to the Fourier representations of the classical Brownian bridge due to \ts{Lévy} and \ts{Kac}.
Using coupling by change of measure and an approximation technique, Wang's Harnack inequalities are established for a class of functional SDEs driven by subordinate Brownian motions. The results cover the corresponding ones in the case without delay.
We prove a central limit theorem for an additive functional of the $d$-dimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in(\frac{1}{2+d},\frac{1}{d})$, using the method of moments, extending the result by Papanicolaou, Stroock and Varadhan in the case of the standard Brownian motion.
In this article, the so-called "Nyström method" is tested to compute optimal quantizers of Gaussian processes. In particular, we derive the optimal quantization of the fractional Brownian motion by approximating the first terms of its Karhunen-Loève decomposition. A numerical test of the "functional stratification" variance reduction algorithm is performed with the fractional Brownian motion.
In this note, we investigate the continuity in law with respect to the Hurst index of the exponential functional of the fractional Brownian motion. Based on the techniques of Malliavin's calculus, we provide an explicit bound on the Kolmogorov distance between two functionals with different Hurst indexes.
In this note, we investigate the density of the exponential functional of the fractional Brownian motion. Based on the techniques of Malliavin's calculus, we provide a log-normal upper bound for the density.
In this paper, we investigate suffcient and necessary conditions for the comparison theorem of neutral stochastic functional differential equations driven by G-Brownian motion (G-NSFDE). Moreover, the results extend the ones in the linear expectation case [1] and nonlinear expectation framework [8].
We prove that a sequence of semi-discrete approximations converges to a multiplicative functional for reflected Brownian motion, which intuitively represents the Lyapunov exponent for the corresponding stochastic flow. The method of proof is based on a study of the deterministic version of the problem and the excursion theory.
This paper focuses on controllability results of stochastic delay partial functional integro-differential equations perturbed by fractional Brownian motion. Sufficient conditions are established using the theory of resolvent operators combined with a fixed point approach for achieving the required result. An example is provided to illustrate the theory.
The purpose of this paper is to prove ergodicity and provide asymptotic formulae for probabilities of threshold crossing related to smooth approximations of three fundamental nonlinear mechanical models: (a) an elasto-plastic oscillator, (b) an oscillator with dry friction, (c) an oscillator constrained by an obstacle (one sided or two sided) and subject to impacts, all three in presence of white or colored noise. Relying on a groundbreaking result on density estimates for degenerate diffusions by Delarue and Menozzi (2010), we identify Lyapunov functions that satisfy appropriate conditions le…
A variational representation for functionals of G-Brownian motion is established by a finite-dimensional approximate technique. As an application of the variational representation, we obtain a large deviation principle for stochastic flows driven by G-Brownian motion.
The d-inverse is a generalized notion of inverse of a stochastic process having a certain tendency of increasing expectations. Scaling limit of the d-inverse of Brownian motion with functional drift is studied. Except for degenerate case, the class of possible scaling limits is proved to consist of the d-inverses of Brownian motion without drift, one with explosion in finite time, and one with power drift.
We present a two-dimensional extension of an identity in distribution due to Bougerol \cite{Bou} that involves the exponential functional of a linear Brownian motion. Even though this identity does not extend at the level of processes, we point at further striking relations in this direction.
This paper is the first part of our survey on various results about the distribution of exponential type Brownian functionals defined as an integral over time of geometric Brownian motion. Several related topics are also mentioned.
Let B be a Brownian motion and T its first hitting time of the level 1. For U a uniform random variable independent of B, we study in depth the distribution of T^{-1/2}B_{UT}, that is the rescaled Brownian motion sampled at uniform time. In particular, we show that this variable is centered.
We develop the functional Itô/path-dependent calculus with respect to fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H> \frac{1}{2}$. Firstly, two types of integrals are studied. The first type is Stratonovich integral, and the second type is Wick-Itô integral. Then we establish the functional Itô formulas for fractional Brownian motion, which extend the functional Itô formulas in Dupire (2009) and Cont-Fournié (2013) to the case of non-semimartingale. Finally, as an application, we deal with a class of fractional backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs). A relation between fractio…
The aim of this paper is to present the new results concerning some functionals of Brownian motion with drift and present their applications in financial mathematics. We find a probabilistic representation of the Laplace transform of special functional of geometric Brownian motion using the squared Bessel and radial Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes. Knowing the transition density functions of the above we obtain computable formulas for certain expectations of the concerned functional. As an example we find the moments of processes representing an asset price in the lognormal volatility ans Stein m…
We consider a family of sup-functionals of (drifted) fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in(0,1)$. This family includes, but is not limited to: expected value of the supremum, expected workload, Wills functional, and Piterbarg-Pickands constant. Explicit formulas for the derivatives of these functionals as functions of Hurst parameter evaluated at $H=\tfrac{1}{2}$ are established. In order to derive these formulas, we develop the concept of derivatives of fractional $α$-stable fields introduced by Stoev \& Taqqu (2004) and propose Paley-Wiener-Zygmund representation of fractiona…
In this paper we study the controllability results of impulsive neutral stochastic functional differential equations with infinite delay driven by fractional Brownian motion in a real separable Hilbert space. The controllability results are obtained using stochastic analysis and a fixed-point strategy. Finally, an illustrative example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical result.
We prove change of variables formulas [Itô formulas] for functions of both arithmetic and geometric averages of geometric fractional Brownian motion. They are valid for all convex functions, not only for smooth ones. These change of variables formulas provide us integral representations of functions of average in the sense of generalized Lebesgue-Stieltjes integral.
We describe the classes of functions $f=(f(x), x\in R)$, for which processes $f(W_t)-Ef(W_t)$ and $f(W_t)/Ef(W_t)$ are martingales. We apply these results to give a martingale characterization of general solutions of the quadratic and the D'Alembert functional equations. We study also the time-dependent martingale transformations of a Brownian Motion.
In this paper we study the controllability of fractional neutral stochastic functional differential equations with infinite delay driven by fractional Brownian motion in a real separable Hilbert space. The controllability results are obtained by using stochastic analysis and a fixed-point strategy. Finally, an illustrative example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical result.
We prove a central limit theorem for an additive functional of the $d$-dimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in(\frac{1}{1+d},\frac{1}{d})$, using the method of moments, extending the result by Papanicolaou, Stroock and Varadhan in the case of the standard Brownian motion.
We find exact small deviation asymptotics with respect to weighted Hilbert norm for some well-known Gaussian processes. Our approach does not require the knowledge of eigenfunctions of the covariance operator of a weighted process. Such a peculiarity of the method makes it possible to generalize many previous results in this area. We also obtain new relations connected to exact small deviation asymptotics for a Brownian excursion, a Brownian meander, and Bessel processes and bridges.
In this article we investigate the controllability for neutral stochastic functional integro-differential equations with finite delay, driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter lesser than $1/2$ in a Hilbert space. We employ the theory of resolvent operators combined with the Banach fixed point theorem to establish sufficient conditions to prove the desired result
Sufficient and necessary conditions are presented for the comparison theorem of path dependent $G$-SDEs. Different from the corresponding study in path independent $G$-SDEs, a probability method is applied to prove these results. Moreover, the results extend the ones in the linear expectation case.
In this paper we consider the controllability of certain class of non-autonomous neutral evolution stochastic functional differential equations, with time varying delays, driven by a fractional Brownian motion in a separable real Hilbert space. Sufficient conditions for controllability are obtained by employing a fixed point approach. A practical example is provided to illustrate the viability of the abstract result of this work.
In this paper we consider a class of time-dependent neutral stochastic functional differential equations with finite delay driven by a fractional Brownian motion in a Hilbert space. We prove an existence and uniqueness result for the mild solution by means of the Banach fixed point principle. A practical example is provided to illustrate the viability of the abstract result of this work.
In this paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of mild solution for a stochastic neutral partial functional integro-differential equation with delay in a Hilbert space driven by a fractional Brownian motion and with non-deterministic diffusion coefficient. We suppose that the linear part has a resolvent operator. We also establish a sufficient condition for the existence of the density of a function of the solution. An example is provided to illustrate the results of this work
Under certain mild conditions, some limit theorems for functionals of two independent Gaussian processes are obtained. The results apply to general Gaussian processes including fractional Brownian motion, sub-fractional Brownian motion and bi-fractional Brownian motion. A new and interesting phenomenon is that, in comparison with the results for fractional Brownian motion, extra randomness appears in the limiting distributions for Gaussian processes with nonstationary increments, say sub-fractional Brownian motion and bi-fractional Brownian. The results are obtained based on the method of mome…
We consider a random walk $S$ in the domain of attraction of a standard normal law $Z$, \textit{ie} there exists a positive sequence $a_n$ such that $S_n/a_n$ converges in law towards $Z$. The main result of this note is that the rescaled process $(S_{\lfloor nt \rfloor}/a_n, t \geq 0)$ conditioned to stay non-negative, to start and to come back \textit{near the origin} converges in law towards the normalized brownian excursion.
Consider the first exit time $T_{a,b}$ from a finite interval $[-a,b]$ for an homogeneous fluctuating functional $X$ of a linear Brownian motion. We show the existence of a finite positive constant $\k$ such that $$\lim_{t\to\infty}t^{-1}\log \p[ T_{ab} > t] = -\k.$$ Following Chung's original approach, we deduce a "liminf" law of the iterated logarithm for the two-sided supremum of $X$. This extends and gives a new point of view on a result of Khoshnevisan and Shi.
This is the second part of our survey on exponential functionals of Brownian motion. We focus on the applications of the results about the distributions of the exponential functionals, which have been discussed in the first part. Pricing formula for call options for the Asian options, explicit expressions for the heat kernels on hyperbolic spaces, diffusion processes in random environments and extensions of Lévy's and Pitman's theorems are discussed.
We present an innovating sensitivity analysis for stochastic differential equations: We study the sensitivity, when the Hurst parameter~$H$ of the driving fractional Brownian motion tends to the pure Brownian value, of probability distributions of smooth functionals of the trajectories of the solutions $\{X^H_t\}_{t\in \mathbb{R}_+}$ and of the Laplace transform of the first passage time of $X^H$ at a given threshold. Our technique requires to extend already known Gaussian estimates on the density of $X^H_t$ to estimates with constants which are uniform w.r.t. $t$ in in the whole half-line $\R…
The purpose of this paper is to establish a variational representation \log \E [e^{f(B)}] = \sup_h \E [f(B + \int_0^{\cdot} d<B>_s h_s) - 1/2 \int_0^1 h_s \cdot (d<B>_s h_s)] for functionals of the d-dimensional G-Brownian motion B. Here \E is a sublinear expectation called G-expectation, f is any bounded function in the domain of \E mapping C([0,1];\R^d) to \R, the integrals are taken with respect to the quadratic variation of B, and the supremum runs over all h's for which these integrals are well-defined. As an application, we give another proof of the results obtained by Gao-Jiang (2010), …
In this paper, we studied the functional ergodic limits of the site-dependent branching Brownian motions in R. The results show that the limiting processes are non-degenerate if and only if the variance functions of branching laws are integrable. When the functions are integrable, although the limiting processes will vary according to the integrals, they are always positive, infinitely divisible and self-similar, and their marginal distributions are determined by a kind of 1/2-fractional integral equations. As a byproduct, the unique non-negative solutions of the integral equations are explici…
Let $A_t=\sum_{s\le t} F(X_{s-},X_s)$ be a purely discontinuous additive functional of a subordinate Brownian motion $X=(X_t, \mathbb P_x)$. We give a sufficient condition on the non-negative function $F$ that guarantees that finiteness of $A_{\infty}$ implies finiteness of its expectation. This result is then applied to study the relative entropy of $\mathbb P_x$ and the probability measure induced by a purely discontinuous Girsanov transform of the process $X$. We prove these results under the weak global scaling condition on the Laplace exponent of the underlying subordinator.
We present equalities in law between the spectra of the minors of a GUE matrix and some maximal functionals of independent Brownian motions. In turn, these results allow to recover the limiting shape (properly centered and scaled) of the RSK Young diagrams associated with a random word as a function of the spectra of these minors. Since the length of the top row of the diagrams is the length of the longest increasing subsequence of the random word, the corresponding limiting law also follows.
