Kock [Bull. Austral. Math. Soc., 25 (1982), 357-386] has considered differential forms with values in a group in a context where neighborhood relations are available. By doing so, he has made it clear where the so-called Maurer-Cartan formula should come from. In this paper, while we retain the classical definition of differential form with values in the Lie algebra of a group, we propose another definition of coboundary operator for the de Rham complex in a highly general microlinear context, in which neighborhood relations are no longer in view. Using this new definition of the coboundary operator, it is to be shown that the main result of Kock's paper mentioned above still prevails in our general microlinear context. Our considerations will be carried out within the framework of groupoids.
We introduce the notion of a Lie algebroid structure on an affine bundle whose base manifold is fibred over the real numbers. It is argued that this is the framework which one needs for coming to a time-dependent generalization of the theory of Lagrangian systems on Lie algebroids. An extensive discussion is given of a way one can think of forms acting on sections of the affine bundle. It is further shown that the affine Lie algebroid structure gives rise to a coboundary operator on such forms. The concept of admissible curves and dynamical systems whose integral curves are admissible, brings …
For any Lie algebroid A, its 1-jet bundle JA is a Lie algebroid naturally and there is a representation π: JA ->DA. Denote by dJ the corresponding coboundary operator. In this paper, we realize the deformation cohomology of a Lie algebroid A introduced by M. Crainic and I. Moerdijk as the cohomology of a subcomplex (Γ(Hom(^\bulletJA,A)DA), dJ) of the cochain complex (Γ(Hom(^\bulletJA,A)), dJ).
Poisson sigma models represent an interesting use of Poisson manifolds for the construction of a classical field theory. Their definition in the language of fibre bundles is shown and the corresponding field equations are derived using a coordinate independent variational principle. The elegant form of equations of motion for so called Poisson-Lie groups is derived. Construction of the Poisson-Lie group corresponding to a given Lie bialgebra is widely known only for coboundary Lie bialgebras. Using the adjoint representation of Lie group and Drinfel'd double we show that Poisson-Lie group can …
Let M be a paracompact smooth manifold, A a Weil algebra and M^A the associated Weil bundle. In this paper, we give another definition and characterization of vector field on M^A.
We consider groupoids in the category of principal bundles, which we call principal bundles (PB) groupoids. Inspired by work by Th. Nikolaus and K. Waldorf, we generalise bundle gerbes over manifolds to bundle gerbes over groupoids and discuss a functorial correspondence between PB groupoids and bundle gerbes over groupoids. From a PB groupoid over a fibre product groupoid, we build a bundle gerbe over another fibre product groupoid. Conversely, from a bundle gerbe over a Lie groupoid, we build a PB groupoid. It has a trivial base and from any PB groupoid with trivial base, we build a bundle g…
In our [Higher-order preconnections in synthetic differential geometry of jet bundles, Beiträge zur Algebra und Geometrie, 45 (2004), 677-696] we have established the affine bundle theorem in the synthetic approach to jet bundles in terms of infinitesimal spaces Dⁿ's. In our succeeding [Synthetic differential geometry of higher-order total differentials, to appear in Cahiers de Topologie et Géométrie Différentielle Catégoriques] we have introduced another synthetic approach to jet bundles in terms of infinitesimal spaces D_{n}'s, and have compared it with the former approach both in the …
Given a smooth $G$-vector bundle $E \to M$ with a connection $\nabla$, we propose the construction of a sheaf of vertex algebras $\mathcal{E}^{ch(E,\nabla)}$, which we call a \textit{chiral vector bundle}. $\mathcal{E}^{ch(E,\nabla)}$ contains as subsheaves the sheaf of superalgebras $Ω\otimes Γ(SE \otimes ΛE)$ and the sheaf of Lie algebras generated by certain endomorphisms of these superalgebras: $\nabla$, the infinitesimal gauge transformations of $E$, and the contraction operators $ι_X$ on differential forms $Ω$. Another subsheaf of primary importance is the chiral vector bundle $\mathcal{…
A VB-algebroid is essentially defined as a Lie algebroid object in the category of vector bundles. There is a one-to-one correspondence between VB-algebroids and certain flat Lie algebroid superconnections, up to a natural notion of equivalence. In this setting, we are able to construct characteristic classes, which in special cases reproduce characteristic classes constructed by Crainic and Fernandes. We give a complete classification of regular VB-algebroids, and in the process we obtain another characteristic class of Lie algebroids that does not appear in the ordinary representation theory…
For a compact, oriented, hyperbolic $n$-manifold $(M,g)$, realised as $M= Γ\backslash \mathbb{H}^{n}$ where $Γ$ is a torsion-free cocompact subgroup of $SO(n,1)$, we establish and study a relationship between differential geometric cohomology on $M$ and algebraic invariants of the group $Γ$. In particular for $\mathbb{F}$ an irreducible $SO(n,1)$-module, we show that the group cohomology with coefficients $H^{\bullet}(Γ, \mathbb{F})$ is isomorphic to the cohomology of an appropriate projective BGG complex on $M$. This yields the geometric interpretation that $H^{\bullet}(Γ, \mathbb{F})$ parame…
We introduce two $K$-theories, one for vector bundles whose fibers are modules of vertex operator algebras, another for vector bundles whose fibers are modules of associative algebras. We verify the cohomological properties of these $K$-theories, and construct a natural homomorphism from the VOA K-theory to the associative algebra K-theory.
The geometry of submanifolds is intimately related to the theory of functions and vector bundles. It has been of fundamental importance to find out how those two objects interact in many geometric and physical problems. A typical example of this relation is that the Picard group of line bundles on an algebraic manifold is isomorphic to the group of divisors, which is generated by holomorphic hypersurfaces modulo linear equivalence. A similar correspondence can be made between the K-group of sheaves and the Chow ring of holomorphic cycles. There are two more very recent examples of such a relat…
We obtain a vanishing theorem for the kernel of a Dirac operator on a Clifford module twisted by a sufficiently large power of a line bundle, whose curvature is non-degenerate at any point of the base manifold. In particular, if the base manifold is almost complex, we prove a vanishing theorem for the kernel of a $\spin^c$ Dirac operator twisted by a line bundle with curvature of a mixed sign. In this case we also relax the assumption of non-degeneracy of the curvature. These results are generalization of a vanishing theorem of Borthwick and Uribe. As an application we obtain a new proof of th…
A holomorphic triple over a compact Riemann surface consists of two holomorphic vector bundles and a holomorphic map between them. After fixing the topological types of the bundles and a real parameter, there exist moduli spaces of stable holomorphic triples. In this paper we study non-emptiness, irreducibility, smoothness, and birational descriptions of these moduli spaces for a certain range of the parameter. Our results have important applications to the study of the moduli space of representations of the fundamental group of the surface into unitary Lie groups of indefinite signature, whic…
We construct the family of algebroid brackets $[\cdot,\cdot]_{c,v}$ on the tangent bundle $T^*M$ to a Poisson manifold $(M,π)$ starting from an algebroid bracket of differential forms. We use these brackets to generate Poisson structures on the tangent bundle $TM$. Next, in the case when $M$ is equipped with a bi-Hamiltonian structure $(M,π_1, π_2)$ we show how to construct another family of Poisson structures. Moreover we present how to find Casimir functions for those structures and we discuss some particular examples.
We use foliations and connections on principal Lie groupoid bundles to prove various integrability results for Lie algebroids. In particular, we show, under quite general assumptions, that the semi-direct product associated to an infinitesimal action of one integrable Lie algebroid on another is integrable. This generalizes recent results of Dazord and Nistor.
