We use foliations and connections on principal Lie groupoid bundles to prove various integrability results for Lie algebroids. In particular, we show, under quite general assumptions, that the semi-direct product associated to an infinitesimal action of one integrable Lie algebroid on another is integrable. This generalizes recent results of Dazord and Nistor.
VB-groupoids can be thought of as vector bundle objects in the category of Lie groupoids. Just as Lie algebroids are the infinitesimal counterparts of Lie groupoids, VB-algebroids correspond to the infinitesimal version of VB-groupoids. In this work we address the problem of the existence of a VB-groupoid admitting a given VB-algebroid as its infinitesimal data. Our main result is an explicit characterization of the obstructions appearing in this integrability problem as the vanishing of the spherical periods of certain cohomology classes. Along the way, we illustrate our result in concrete ex…
We survey recent results on the local and global integrability of a Lie algebroid, as well as the integrability of infinitesimal multiplicative geometric structures on it.
In this paper, an obstruction against the integrability of certain infinitesimal solitonic deformations is given. Using this obstruction, we show that the complex projective spaces of even complex dimension are rigid as Ricci solitons although they have infinitesimal solitonic deformations.
In this paper we prove rigidity theorems for Poisson Lie group actions on Poisson manifolds. In particular, we prove that close infinitesimal momentum maps associated to Poisson Lie group actions are equivalent using a normal form theorem for SCI spaces. When the Poisson structure of the acted manifold is integrable, this yields rigidity also for lifted actions to the symplectic groupoid.
A multiplicatively closed, horizontal $n$-plane field $D$ on a Lie groupoid $G$ over $M$ generalizes to intransitive geometry the classical notion of a Cartan connection. The infinitesimalization of the connection $D$ is a Cartan connection $\nabla $ on the Lie algebroid of $G$, a notion already studied elsewhere by the author. It is shown that $\nabla $ may be regarded as infinitesimal parallel translation in the groupoid $G$ along $D$. From this follows a proof that $D$ defines a pseudoaction generating a pseudogroup of transformations on $M$ precisely when the curvature of $\nabla $ vanishe…
Using the Lie derivative of the metric we define a class of Lie algebras of vector fields by generalising the concept of Killing vectors. As a Lie algebra they define locally a group action on the pseudo-Riemannian manifold through exponentiation. The motivation behind studying these infinitesimal group actions is the investigation of $\mathcal{I}$-degenerate pseudo-Riemannian spaces, i.e., spaces having identical polynomial curvature invariants. In particular, we show that all the known examples of $\mathcal{I}$-degenerate pseudo-Riemannian spaces possess such vector fields.
A multiplicatively closed, horizontal foliation on a Lie groupoid may be viewed as a "pseudoaction" on the base manifold $M$. A pseudoaction generates a pseudogroup of transformations of $M$ in the same way an ordinary Lie group action generates a transformation group. Infinitesimalizing a pseudoaction, one obtains the action of a Lie algebra on $M$, possibly twisted. A global converse to Lie's third theorem proven here states that every twisted Lie algebra action is integrated by a pseudoaction. When the twisted Lie algebra action is complete it integrates to a twisted Lie group action, accor…
Let $\mathcal G$ be a Lie supergroup with Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak g$, $\mathcal M$ a supermanifold and $\mathrm{Vec}(\mathcal M)$ the set of vector fields on $\mathcal M$. Let $λ:\mathfrak g\rightarrow \mathrm{Vec}(\mathcal M)$ be an infinitesimal action, i.e. a homomorphism of Lie superalgebras. We show the existence of a local $\mathcal G$-action on $\mathcal M$ inducing the infinitesimal action $λ$ and find necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a globalization in the sense of Palais.
For a Hamiltonian, proper and free action of a Lie group $G$ on a Dirac manifold $(M,L)$, with a regular moment map $μ:M\to \mathfrak{g}^*$, the manifolds $M/G$, $μ^{-1}(0)$ and $μ^{-1}(0)/G$ all have natural induced Dirac structures. If $(M,L)$ is an integrable Dirac structure, we show that $M/G$ is always integrable, but $μ^{-1}(0)$ and $μ^{-1}(0)/G$ may fail to be integrable, and we describe the obstructions to their integrability.
For a singular Riemannian foliation $\mathcal{F}$ on a Riemannian manifold, a curve is called horizontal if it meets the leaves of $\mathcal{F}$ perpendicularly. For a singular Riemannian foliation $\mathcal{F}$ on a unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^{n}$, we show that if $\mathcal{F}$ is a polar foliation or if $\mathcal{F}$ is given by the orbits of an infinitesimally polar action, then the horizontal diameter of $\mathbb{S}^{n}$ is $π$, i.e., any two points in $\mathbb{S}^{n}$ can be connected by a horizontal curve of length $\leqπ$.
We establish a 1:1 correspondence between Poisson-Lie group actions on integrable Poisson manifolds and twisted multiplicative hamiltonian actions on source 1-connected symplectic groupoids. For an action of a Poisson-Lie group $G$ on a Poisson manifold $M$, we find an explicit description of the lifted hamiltonian action on the symplectic groupoid $Σ(M)$. We give applications of these results to the integration of Poisson quotients $M/G$, Lu-Weinstein quotients $μ^{-1}(e)/G$ and Poisson homogeneous spaces $G/H$.
We give a new proof of the equivalence between the existence of a complete action of a Lie algebroid on a surjective submersion and its integrability. The main tools in our approach are double Lie groupoids and multiplicative foliations, our proof relies on a simple characterization of those vacant double Lie groupoids which induce a Lie groupoid structure on their orbit spaces.
In this paper we generalize some results of Richard Palais to the case of Lie supergroups and Lie superalgebras. More precisely, let $G$ be a Lie supergroup, $\mathfrak g$ its Lie superalgebra and let $ρ$ be an infinitesimal action (a representation) of $\mathfrak g$ on a supermanifold $M$. We will show that there always exists a local (smooth left) action of $G$ on $M$ such that $ρ$ is the map that associates the fundamental vector field on $M$ to an algebra element (we will say that the action integrates $ρ$). We also show that if $ρ$ is univalent, then there exists a unique maximal local ac…
The underlying even manifold of a super Riemann surface is a Riemann surface with a spinor valued differential form called gravitino. Consequently infinitesimal deformations of super Riemann surfaces are certain infinitesimal deformations of the Riemann surface and the gravitino. Furthermore the action functional of non-linear super symmetric sigma models, the action functional underlying string theory, can be obtained from a geometric action functional on super Riemann surfaces. All invariances of the super symmetric action functional are explained in super geometric terms and the action func…
Let $\mathcal{S}$ be an integrable Pfaffian system. If it is invariant under a transversally free infinitesimal action of a finite dimensional real Lie algebra $g$ and consequently invariant under the local action of a Lie group $G$, we show that the vertical variational cohomology of $\mathcal{S}$ is equal to the Lie algebra cohomology of $g$ with values in the space of the horizontal cohomology in maximum dimension. This result, besides giving an effective algorithm for the computation of the variational cohomology of an invariant Pfaffian system, provides a method for detecting obstructions…
We find a necessary condition for the existence of an action of a Lie group $G$ by quaternionic automorphisms on an integrable quaternionic manifold in terms of representations of $\mathfrak{g}$. We check this condition and prove that a Riemannian symmetric space of dimension $4n$ for $n\geq 2$ has an invariant integrable almost quaternionic structure if and only if it is quaternionic vector space, quaternionic hyperbolic space or quaternionic projective space.
