In this paper, we study the matrix multiplication operators on Banach function spaces and discuss their applications in semigroups for solving the abstract Cauchy problem.
In this short note, we first consider some inequalities for comparison of some algebraic properties of two continuous algebra-multiplications on an arbitrary Banach space and then, as an application, we consider some very basic observations on the space of all continuous algebra-multiplications on a Banach space.
In this paper we characterize multiplication operators induced by operator valued maps on Banach function spaces. We also study multiplication semigroups and stability of these operators.
We study multiplication operators on the weighted Banach spaces of an infinite tree. We characterize the bounded and the compact operators, as well as determine the operator norm. In addition, we determine the spectrum of the bounded multiplication operators and characterize the isometries. Finally, we study the multiplication operators between the weighted Banach spaces and the Lipschitz space by characterizing the bounded and the compact operators, determine estimates on the operator norm, and show there are no isometries.
We prove the boundedness of a general class of multipliers and Fourier multipliers, in particular of the Hilbert transform, on quasi-Banach modulation spaces. We also deduce boundedness for multiplications and convolutions for elements in such spaces.
We show that multiplication from $L_p\times L_q$ to $L_1$ (for $p,q\in [1,\infty]$, $1/p+1/q=1$) is a uniformly open mapping. We also prove the uniform openness of the multiplication from $\ell_1\times c_0$ to $\ell_1$. This strengthens the former results obtained by M. Balcerzak, A. Majchrzycki and A. Wachowicz.
We develop the theory of Banach algebras whose multiplication (regarded as a bilinear map) is open. We demonstrate that such algebras must have topological stable rank 1, however the latter condition is strictly weaker and implies only that products of non-empty open sets have non-empty interior. We then investigate openness of convolution in semigroup algebras resolving in the negative a problem of whether convolution in $\ell_1(\mathbb{N}_0)$ is open. By appealing to ultraproduct techniques, we demonstrate that neither in $\ell_1(\mathbb{Z})$ nor in $\ell_1(\mathbb Q)$ convolution is uniform…
Let $X$ be a Banach space with $\dim X>1$ such that $X^{\ast}$, its dual, is separable and $\mathcal{B}(X)$ the algebra of bounded linear operators on $X$. In this paper, we study the passage of property of being supercyclic from an operator $T\in\mathcal{B}(X)$ to the left and right multiplication induced by $T$ on separable admissible Banach ideal of $\mathcal{B}(X)$. We give a sufficient condition for the tensor product $T\widehat{\otimes}R$ of two operators to be supercyclic. As a consequence, we give another equivalent conditions for the Supercyclicity Criterion.
Let $A$ be a Banach algebra. For $f\in A^{\ast}$, we inspect the weak sequential properties of the well-known map $T_f:A\to A^{\ast}$, $T_f(a) = fa$, where $fa\in A^{\ast}$ is defined by $fa(x) = f(ax)$ for all $x\in A$. We provide equivalent conditions for when $T_f$ is completely continuous for every $f\in A^{\ast}$, and for when $T_f$ maps weakly precompact sets onto L-sets for every $f\in A^{\ast}$. Our results have applications to the algebra of compact operators $K(X)$ on a Banach space $X$.
Let $BV_p[0,1]$, $1\le p<\infty$, be the Banach algebra of functions of bounded $p$-variation in the sense of Wiener. Recently, Kowalczyk and Turowska \cite{KT19} proved that the multiplication in $BV_1[0,1]$ is an open bilinear mapping. We extend this result for all values of $p\in[1,\infty)$.
Let ${\mathcal L} A(H)$ be the Lebesgue-Fourier space of a hypergroup $H$ considered as a Banach space on $H$. In addition ${\mathcal L}A(H)$ is a Banach algebra with the multiplication inherited from $L^1(H)$. Moreover If $H$ is a regular Fourier hypergroup, ${\mathcal L}A(H)$ is a Banach algebra with pointwise multiplication. We study the amenability and character amenability of these two Banach algebras.
Let $E$ be a Banach function space on a probability measure space $(Ω,Σ,μ).$ Let $X$ be a Banach space and $E(X)$ be the associated Köthe-Bochner space. An operator on $E(X)$ is called a multiplication operator if it is given by multiplication by a function in $L^{\infty}(μ).$ In the main result of this paper, we show that an operator $T$ on $E(X)$ is a multiplication operator if and only if $T$ commutes with $L^{\infty}(μ)$ and leaves invariant the cyclic subspaces generated by the constant vector-valued functions in $E(X).$ As a corollary we show that this is equivalent to $T$ satisfying a f…
In this paper we prove that if (A,π) is an amenable Banach algebra and if ρis another Banach algebra multiplication on A such that the difference between ρand and πis less than 1/11, then (A, ρ) is also amenable.
We present partial results to the following question: Does every infinite dimensional Banach space have an infinite dimensional subspace on which one can define an operator which is not a compact perturbation of a scalar multiplication?
We develop the spectral radius technique and the theory of tensor radicals. As applications we obtain numerous results on mutiplication operators in Banach algebras and Operator bimodules.
The question is addressed of when a Sobolev type space, built upon a general rearrangement-invariant norm, on an $n$-dimensional domain, is a Banach algebra under pointwise multiplication of functions. A sharp balance condition among the order of the Sobolev space, the strength of the norm, and the (ir)regularity of the domain is provided for the relevant Sobolev space to be a Banach algebra. The regularity of the domain is described in terms of its isoperimetric function. Related results on the boundedness of the multiplication operator into lower-order Sobolev type spaces are also establishe…
Given a Banach Algebra $A$ and $a\in A$, several relations among the Drazin spectrum of $a$ and the Drazin spectra of the multiplication operators $L_a$ and $R_a$ will be stated. The Banach space operator case will be also examined. Furthermore, a characterization of the Drazin spectrum will be considered.
A dual Banach algebra is a Banach algebra which is a dual space, with the multiplication being separately weak$^*$-continuous. We show that given a unital dual Banach algebra $\mc A$, we can find a reflexive Banach space $E$, and an isometric, weak$^*$-weak$^*$-continuous homomorphism $π:\mc A\to\mc B(E)$ such that $π(\mc A)$ equals its own bicommutant.
We investigate uniform, strong, weak and almost weak stability of multiplication semigroups on Banach space valued $L^p$-spaces. We show that, under certain conditions, these properties can be characterized by analogous ones of the pointwise semigroups. Using techniques from selector theory, we prove a spectral mapping theorem for the point spectra of the pointwise and global semigroups and apply this as a major tool for determining almost weak stability.
Exploiting several $\ell_p$-factorization results for strictly singular operators, we study the strict singularity of the multiplication operator $L_A R_B\colon T\mapsto ATB$ on $\mathcal L(X)$ for various Banach spaces~$X$.
Given two Banach function spaces we study the pointwise product space E.F, especially for the case that the pointwise product of their unit balls is again convex. We then give conditions on when the pointwise product E . M(E, F)=F, where M(E,F) denotes the space of multiplication operators from E into F.
In this paper, a sufficient condition for the existence of hyperinvariant subspace of compact perturbations of multiplication operators on some Banach spaces is presented. An interpretation of this result for compact perturbations of normal and diagonal operators on Hilbert space is also discussed. An improvement of a result of [FX12] for compact perturbations of diagonal operators is also obtained.
We study the regularity properties of the inverse of a bilipschitz mapping $f$ belonging $W^m X_{\text{loc}}$, where $X$ is an arbitrary Banach function space. Namely, we prove that the inverse mapping $f^{-1}$ is also in $W^m X_{\text{loc}}$. Furthermore, the paper shows that the class of bilipschitz mappings in $W^m X_{\text{loc}}$ is closed with respect to composition and multiplication.
We introduce and study a new class of translation-modulation invariant Banach spaces of ultradistributions. These spaces show stability under Fourier transform and tensor products; furthermore, they have a natural Banach convolution module structure over a certain associated Beurling algebra, as well as a Banach multiplication module structure over an associated Wiener-Beurling algebra. We also investigate a new class of modulation spaces, the Banach spaces of ultradistributions $\mathcal{M}^F$ on $\mathbb{R}^{d}$, associated to translation-modulation invariant Banach spaces of ultradistributi…
For 1 ≤ p < ∞, it is known that the set K^*_p contains of all Lambert multipliers acting between L^p-spaces is a Banach space. In this study, we introduce a new induced norm by conditional expectation operators to show that K^*_p is a commutative Banach algebra with respect to this norm. Furthermore, in main result, the Fredholm *-multiplication operators on L^p-spaces are characterized, and some more results are obtained.
We give complete characterisation of topologically injective (bounded below), topologically surjective (open mapping), isometric and coisometric (quotient mapping) multiplication operators between $L_p$ spaces defined on different $σ$-finite measure spaces. We prove that all such operators invertible from the left or from the right. As the consequence we prove that all objects of the category of $L_p$ spaces considered as left Banach modules over algebra of bounded measurable functions are metrically, extremelly and relatively projective, injective and flat.
We give a self-contained introduction to (quasi-)Banach modulation spaces of ultradistributions, and review results on boundedness for multiplications and convolutions for elements in such spaces. Furthermore, we use these results to study the Gabor product. As an example, we show how it appears in a phase-space formulation of the nonlinear cubic Schrödinger equation.
Let $\mathbf{F}$ be a Banach space of continuous functions over a connected locally compact space $X$. We present several sufficient conditions on $\mathbf{F}$ guaranteeing that the only multiplication operators on $\mathbf{F}$ that are surjective isometries are scalar multiples of the identity. The conditions are given via the properties of the inclusion operator from $\mathbf{F}$ into $\mathcal{C}\left(X\right)$, as well as in terms of geometry of $\mathbf{F}$. An important tool in our investigation is the notion of Birkhoff Orthogonality.
We show that a continuous bilinear mapping P: C(I) \times C(I) \to C(I) can be presented in the form P(f,g) = B((Af)(Ag)), where A and B are bounded linear operators on C(I) and multiplication is defined pointwise, if and only if for all t in I the bilinear form (f,g) -> P(f,g)(t) is integral on C(I) times C(I) and depends in a sense continuously on t. To this end we construct a continuous surjection phi : I \to I^2 admitting a regular averaging operator in the sense of Pelczynski.
Let $S$ be an inverse semigroup with the set of idempotents $E$. In this paper we define the module super-amenability of a Banach algebra which is a Banach module over another Banach algebra with compatible actions, and show that when $E$ is upward directed and acts on $S$ trivially from left and by multiplication from right, the semigroup algebra $ \ell ^{1}(S)$ is $\ell^{1}(E)$-module super-amenable if and only if an appropriate group homomorphic image of $S$ is finite.
Let $Φ$ be a $C^*$-subalgebra of $L^\infty(\mathbb{R})$ and $SO_{X(\mathbb{R})}^\diamond$ be the Banach algebra of slowly oscillating Fourier multipliers on a Banach function space $X(\mathbb{R})$. We show that the intersection of the Calkin image of the algebra generated by the operators of multiplication $aI$ by functions $a\inΦ$ and the Calkin image of the algebra generated by the Fourier convolution operators $W^0(b)$ with symbols in $SO_{X(\mathbb{R})}^\diamond$ coincides with the Calkin image of the algebra generated by the operators of multiplication by constants.
A Banach algebra A is self-induced if the multiplication is an isomorphism from the A-balanced projective tensor-square of A to A. The class of self-induced Banach algebras is a natural generalization of unital Banach algebras, providing a fertile framework for developing homological aspects of unital Banach algebras. Elementary results with applictions to computations of the bounded Hochschild cohomology groups H^1(A,A^*) with emphasis on A=A(X), the approximable operators on a Banach space X, are given.
Given Banach spaces $X$ and $Y$ and operators $A\in B(X)$ and $B\in B(Y)$, property $(gw)$ does not in general transfer from $A$ and $B$ to the tensor product operator $A\otimes B\in B(X\overline{\otimes} Y)$ or to the elementary operator defined by $A$ and $B$, $τ_{AB}=L_AR_B\in B(B(Y,X))$. In this article necessary and sufficient conditions ensuring that property $(gw)$ transfers from $A$ and $B$ to $A\otimes B$ and to $τ_{AB}$ will be given.
In this paper we investigate Hirano invertibility of anti-triangular matrix over a Banach algebra. Let $a\in {\mathcal A}^H, b\in {\mathcal A}^{sD}.$ If $b^Da=0, bab^π=0,$ we prove that $\begin{pmatrix} a&1\\ b&0 \end{pmatrix}\in M_2(\mathcal A)^H.$ Moreover, we considered Hirano invertibility of anti-triangular matrices under commutative-like conditions. These provide new kind of operator matrices with tripotent and nilpotent decompositions.
We show that if the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on a reflexive Banach function space $X(\mathbb{R})$ and on its associate space $X'(\mathbb{R})$, then the space $X(\mathbb{R})$ has an unconditional wavelet basis. As a consequence of the existence of a Schauder basis in $X(\mathbb{R})$, we prove that the ideal of compact operators $\mathcal{K}(X(\mathbb{R}))$ on the space $X(\mathbb{R})$ is contained in the Banach algebra generated by all operators of multiplication $aI$ by functions $a\in C(\dot{\mathbb{R}})$, where $\dot{\mathbb{R}}=\mathbb{R}\cup\{\infty\}$, and by all Fouri…
New algebraic-analytic properties of a previously studied Banach algebra $\mathcal{A}({\bf{p}})$ of entire functions are established. For a given fixed sequence $(\bf{p}(n))_{n\geq 0}$ of positive real numbers, such that $\lim_{n\rightarrow \infty} {\bf{p}}(n)^{\frac{1}{n}}=\infty$, the Banach algebra $\mathcal{A}({\bf{p}})$ is the set of all entire functions $f$ such that $f(z)=\sum_{n=0}^\infty \hat{f}(n) z^n $ ($z\in \mathbb{C}$), where the sequence $(\hat{f}(n))_{n\geq 0}$ of Taylor coefficients of $f$ satisfies $\hat{f}(n)=O({\bf{p}}(n)^{-1})$ for $n\rightarrow \infty$, with pointwise add…
For every Banach space $X$ with a Schauder basis consider the Banach algebra $\mathbb{R} I\oplus\mathcal{K}_\mathrm{diag}(X)$ of all diagonal operators that are of the form $λI + K$. We prove that $\mathbb{R} I\oplus\mathcal{K}_\mathrm{diag}(X)$ is a Calkin algbra i.e., there exists a Banach space $\mathcal{Y}_X$ so that the Calkin algebra of $\mathcal{Y}_X$ is isomorphic as a Banach algebra to $\mathbb{R} I\oplus\mathcal{K}_\mathrm{diag}(X)$. Among other applications of this theorem we obtain that certain hereditarily indecomposable spaces and the James spaces $J_p$ and their duals endowed wi…
We work with very general Banach spaces of analytic functions in the disk or other domains which satisfy a minimum number of natural axioms. Among the preliminary results, we discuss some implications of the basic axioms and identify all functional Banach spaces in which every bounded analytic function is a pointwise multiplier. Next, we characterize (in various ways) the weighted composition operators among the bounded operators on such spaces, thus generalizing some well-known results on multiplication or composition operators. We also characterize the invertible weighted composition operato…
In this note we show that the representation of the additive group of the Hilbert space $L^2([0,1],\R)$ on $L^2([0,1],\C)$ given by the multiplication operators $π(f) := e^{if}$ is continuous but its space of smooth vectors is trivial. This example shows that a continuous unitary representation of an infinite dimensional Lie group need not be smooth.
Solutions of some partial differential equations are obtained as critical points of a real funtional. Then the Banach space where this functional is defined has to be real, otherwise, it is not differentiable. It follows that the equation is solved with respect to the real dual space of this Banach space. But if the solution is complex-valued there is the following problem: what does the multiplication of this equation by a complex number mean ? In this note, we explain how to rigorously define this operation.
We characterize strong continuity of general operator semigroups on some Lebesgue spaces. In particular, a characterization of strong continuity of weighted composition semigroups on classical Hardy spaces and weighted Bergman spaces with regular weights is given. As applications, our result improves the results of Siskakis, A. G. \cite{AG1} and König, W. \cite{K} and answers a question of Siskakis, A. G. proposed in \cite{AG4}. We also characterize strongly continuous semigroups of weighted composition operators on weighted Bergman spaces in terms of abelian intertwiners of multiplication ope…
We investigate pointwise multipliers on vector-valued function spaces over $\mathbb{R}^d$, equipped with Muckenhoupt weights. The main result is that in the natural parameter range, the characteristic function of the half-space is a pointwise multiplier on Bessel-potential spaces with values in a UMD Banach space. This is proved for a class of power weights, including the unweighted case, and extends the classical result of Shamir and Strichartz. The multiplication estimate is based on the paraproduct technique and a randomized Littlewood-Paley decomposition. An analogous result is obtained fo…
Multipliers have been recently introduced as operators for Bessel sequences and frames in Hilbert spaces. These operators are defined by a fixed multiplication pattern (the symbol) which is inserted between the analysis and synthesis operators. In this paper, we will generalize the concept of Bessel multipliers for p-Bessel and p-Riesz sequences in Banach spaces. It will be shown that bounded symbols lead to bounded operators. Symbols converging to zero induce compact operators. Furthermore, we will give sufficient conditions for multipliers to be nuclear operators. Finally, we will show the c…
In this paper we study the Lie theoretic properties of a class of topological groups which carry a Banach manifold structure but whose multiplication is not smooth. If $G$ and $N$ are Banach-Lie groups and $π: G \to \mathrm{Aut}(N)$ is a homomorphism defining a continuous action of $G$ on $N$, then $H := N \rtimes_πG$ is a Banach manifold with a topological group structure for which the left multiplication maps are smooth, but the right multiplication maps need not to be. We show that these groups share surprisingly many properties with Banach-Lie groups: (a) for every regulated function $ξ: […
The parabolic algebra was introduced by Katavolos and Power, in 1997, as the operator algebra acting on $L^2(R)$ that is weakly generated by the translation and multiplication semigroups. In particular, they proved that this algebra is reflexive and is equal to the Fourier binest algebra, that is, to the algebra of operators that leave invariant the subspaces of the Volterra nest and its analytic counterpart. We prove that a similar result holds for the corresponding algebras acting on $L^p(R)$, where $1<p<\infty$. It is also shown that the reflexive closures of the Fourier binests on $L^p(R)$…
We provide a characterization of the commutant of analytic Toeplitz operators $T_B$ induced by finite Blachke products $B$ acting on weighted Bergman spaces which, as a particular instance, yields the case $B(z)=z^n$ on the Bergman space solved recently by by Abkar, Cao and Zhu. Moreover, it extends previous results by Cowen and Wahl in this context and applies to other Banach spaces of analytic functions such as Hardy spaces $H^p$ for $1<p<\infty$. Finally, we apply this approach to study the reducing subspaces of $T_{B}$ in weighted Bergman spaces.
