This paper deals with surfaces with many lines. It is well-known that a cubic contains 27 of them and that the maximal number for a quartic is 64. In higher degree the question remains open. Here we study classical and new constructions of surfaces with high number of lines. We obtain in particular a symmetric octic with 352 lines.
We study the equivariant sheaf counting theory on K3 surfaces with finite group actions. Let $\sS=[S/G]$ be a global quotient stack, where $S$ is a K3 surface and $G$ is a finite group acting as symplectic homomorphisms on $S$. We show that the Joyce invariants counting Gieseker semistable sheaves on $\sS$ are independent on the Bridgeland stability conditions. As an application we prove the multiple cover formula of Y. Toda for the counting invariants for semistable sheaves on local K3 surfaces with a symplectic finite group action.
In this article, we prove that a tame twisted K3 surface over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic has only finitely many tame twisted Fourier-Mukai partners and we give a counting formula in case we have an ordinary tame untwisted K3 surface. We also show that every tame twisted Fourier Mukai partner of a K3 surface of finite height is a moduli space of twisted sheaves over it.
We prove a bound on the number of lines on a smooth degree-d surface in three-dimensional projective space for $d \geq 3$. This bound improves a bound due to Segre and renders some of his arguments rigorous. It is the best known bound for $d \geq 6$.
Using equivariant geometry, we find a universal formula that computes the number of times a general cubic surface arises in a family. As applications, we show that the PGL(4) orbit closure of a generic cubic surface has degree 96120, and that a general cubic surface arises 42120 times as a hyperplane section of a general cubic 3-fold.
We enumerate the number of surfaces of degree $d$ in $P^3$ having a singular line of order $k$, passing through $δ$ generic points (where $δ$ is the dimension of moduli space of such surfaces).
We study the stationary descendant Gromov-Witten theory of toric surfaces by combining and extending a range of techniques - tropical curves, floor diagrams, and Fock spaces. A correspondence theorem is established between tropical curves and descendant invariants on toric surfaces using maximal toric degenerations. An intermediate degeneration is then shown to give rise to floor diagrams, giving a geometric interpretation of this well-known bookkeeping tool in tropical geometry. In the process, we extend floor diagram techniques to include descendants in arbitrary genus. These floor diagrams …
Given a quasi-projective scheme M over complex numbers equipped with a perfect obstruction theory and a morphism to a nonsingular quasi-projective variety B, we show it is possible to find an affine bundle M'/ M that admits a perfect obstruction theory relative to B. We study the resulting virtual cycles on the fibers of M'/B and relate them to the image of the virtual cycle [M]^vir under refined Gysin homomorphisms. Our main application is when M is a moduli space of stable codimension 1 sheaves with a fixed determinant L on a nonsingular projective surface or Fano threefold, B is the linear …
This article reports on an approach to point counting on algebraic varieties over finite fields that is based on a detailed investigation of the $2$-adic orthogonal group. Combining the new approach with a $p$-adic method, we count the number of points on some $K3$ surfaces over the field $\bbF_{\!p}$, for all primes $p < 10^8$.
We consider the problem of counting the number of rational points on the family of Kummer surfaces associated with two non-isogenous elliptic curves. For this two-parameter family we prove Manin's unity, using the presentation of the Kummer surfaces as isotrivial elliptic fibration and as double cover of the modular elliptic surface of level two. By carrying out the rational point-count with respect to either of the two elliptic fibrations explicitly, we obtain an interesting new identity between two-parameter counting functions.
Using Lagrangian Floer theory, we study the tropical geometry of K3 surfaces with general singular fibres. In particular, we give the local models for the type $I_n$, $II$, $III$ and $IV$ singular fibres in the Kodaira's classification and generalize the correspondence theorem between open Gromov-Witten invariants/tropical discs counting to these cases.
Göttsche gave a formula for the dimension of the cohomology of Hilbert schemes of points on a smooth projective surface $S$. When $S$ admits an action by a finite group $G$, we describe the action of $G$ on the Hodge structure. In the case that $S$ is a K3 surface, each element of $G$ gives a trace on $\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}\sum_{i=0}^{\infty}(-1)^{i}H^{i}(S^{[n]},\mathbb{C})q^{n}$. When $G$ acts faithfully and symplectically on $S$, the resulting generating function is of the form $q/f(q)$, where $f(q)$ is a cusp form. We relate the Hodge structure of Hilbert schemes of points to the Hodge struc…
Quadratic residue patterns modulo a prime are studied since 19th century. We state the last unpublished result of Lydia Goncharova, reformulate it and prior results in terms of algebraic geometry, and prove it. The core of this theorem is an unexpected relation between the number of points on a K3 surface and that on a CM elliptic curve.
Tropical counting tools are useful for many enumerative questions. We count tropical multinodal surfaces using floor plans, looking at the case when two nodes are tropically close together, i.e., unseparated. We generalize tropical floor plans to recover the count of multinodal curves. We then prove that for $δ=2$ or $3$ nodes, tropical surfaces with unseparated nodes contribute asymptotically to the second order term of the polynomial giving the degree of the family of complex projective surfaces in $\mathbb{P}^3$ of degree $d$ with $δ$ nodes. We classify when two nodes in a surface tropicali…
Gross, Hacking, and Keel have constructed mirrors of log Calabi-Yau surfaces in terms of counts of rational curves. Using $q$-deformed scattering diagrams defined in terms of higher genus log Gromov-Witten invariants, we construct deformation quantizations of these mirrors and we produce canonical bases of the corresponding noncommutative algebras of functions.
We provide a definition of Tanaka-Thomas's Vafa-Witten invariants for étale gerbes over smooth projective surfaces using the moduli spaces of $μ_r$-gerbe twisted sheaves and Higgs sheaves. Twisted sheaves and their moduli are naturally used to study the period-index theorem for the corresponding $μ_r$-gerbe in the Brauer group of the surfaces. Deformation and obstruction theory of the twisted sheaves and Higgs sheaves behave like general sheaves and Higgs sheaves. We define virtual fundamental classes on the moduli spaces and define the twisted Vafa-Witten invariants using virtual localization…
Castryck, Decru, and Smith used superspecial genus-2 curves and their Richelot isogeny graph for basing genus-2 isogeny cryptography, and recently, Costello and Smith devised an improved isogeny path-finding algorithm in the genus-2 setting. In order to establish a firm ground for the cryptographic construction and analysis, we give a new characterization of {\em decomposed Richelot isogenies} in terms of {\em involutive reduced automorphisms} of genus-2 curves over a finite field, and explicitly count such decomposed (and non-decomposed) Richelot isogenies between {\em superspecial} principal…
There are two natural ways to count stable pairs or Joyce-Song pairs on $X=\mathrm{K3}\times\mathbb C$; one via weighted Euler characteristic and the other by virtual localisation of the reduced virtual class. Since $X$ is noncompact these need not be the same. We show their generating series are related by an exponential. As applications we prove two conjectures of Toda, and a conjecture of Tanaka-Thomas defining Vafa-Witten invariants in the semistable case.
